Subscribe to RSSA former teacher in Florida's Broward County who was accused of soliciting massages from students has lost her license to teach in the state.
Cheryl Grampa, 46, was barred by the state's Education Practices Commission in an order this month, the Sun-Sentinel reported Friday.
She had taught at Cooper City Elementary.
School district investigators said that during the 2009-2010 school year, one boy touched her breasts and vaginal area and she failed to notify the school administration about the inappropriate conduct, according to the state's complaint.
No criminal charges were filed, but the Broward School Board voted to suspend her for five days and ordered her to undergo classroom management training, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Two psychological evaluations later found her "unfit for duty as a classroom teacher" and she resigned last December, according to state records.
Grampa, who is listed as living in Bellaire, Texas, did not attend the state discussion of her case on Sept. 27 in Orlando, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie, who was not in the district when the case was investigated, said he did not know why Grampa was not fired, but believed that revoking her license was appropriate.

There must not be much of a teachers union in this district.One teacher,in LAUSD(Los Angeles) got caught putting spoo on cookies and serving them to his students.There also charges by the kids of him masterbating behind his deck while children were present.He still hasn't been fired because of union rules.So everyday he continues,his retirement fund increases and his ultimate retirement payout will be higher than the day he was arrested.You can't get rid of bad teachers in LAUSD after they have received tenure,which occurs after the third year of teaching.Highest paid teachers in the country and only 50% of the kids who enter high school,finish high school! It's a wonderful system.The teachers unions along with the public employee and prison guard unions,run and own this state.Nothing gets approved in the state or local governments that they oppose!Nothing!!!
That's part of the reson the state is nearly bankrupt.
Well, with all these comments - some of which I find disturbing - there is only one thing I will add. MSNBC Staff writers need to go back to English/Grammar class and learn to write properly. If you are going to write stories for a living, at least be correct enough to know sentences like "She had taught at Cooper Elementary" is a prime example of "I cut English class when I was in school in every single grade." Every article I read on MSNBC had these type of flaws in the story. But they they want to delete what you write in the comments that doesn't sit well with them. .........

More double standard garbage and union protection stupidity. Kids send her messages, touch all her goodies, and she gets suspended for five days and has to go through management training. Never fired. What would the result have been for a 46 year old male teacher having kids send him sex messages and coming up to play with his weenie? When teachers stop being adult teachers they should just be canned plain and simple.

Grandpa, that still cracks me up but she should have been fired in the first place. Students and teachers should hold the greatest respect in and out of the classroom. I remember when I was in school we had a couple of hot teachers but the last thing I did would even think about touching them. Plus, I saw Grandpas picture and I would gotten sick feeling her up. Gross.
There's definitely a double standard in this country! If this teacher had been a man, he would have been arrested & they would have thrown away the key. Why are women let off easy in these situations?
Uh.... because we are a patronistic society? For the same reason Chris Brown is a bad dude for smacking Rhianna back when she attacked him and he went to jail, but Casey Anthony cold bloodedly murdered her two kids and got a free pass.
Its okay for a woman to hit her husband, beat her boyfriend, to beat her kids or even kill them ... but no one but no one better lay a finger on a woman under any circumstances.
We have a double standard because women want equal rights but not equal punishment.

I completely agree...no leniency on women when they commit the same actions as men.The law is the law.

The article failed to attach a picture because when you look it up, she is horrid and it would have further prejudiced people against her. She looks methy, not hot. Had she been a man it would not matter if he looked like George Clooney, he would be in prison shackles awaiting Sandusky justice. Had she been an uber hot woman we would at least feel some sympathy and she would get a pass as we have seen recently.
Another reason we do not have a pic is obvious, she is white. Rarely ever do you have a white perps pic appear until they have been formally charged with a crime and not just suspected. I am beginning NOT to believe all these stories. It reminds me of the hysteria in the 1990's of all these kids being abused by Day Care Centers. It seems like this is a concerted effort to reduce the teaching career to scum. I am not buying this argument.

Teachers may have a College degree and have been teaching for years, but the one thing you can't learn in school is Common sense. You either have it or you don't, and a lot of teachers just don't have it. Almost every day something like this comes out. It seem that they just don't care if they lose their Jobs.
If common sense were truly common then everyone would have it.
another example (poster child) for vouchers in education...set the captive audience free to get a real education...probably at home or at least privately...this whole public education thing is sick and the people drawn to it are sickos who couldn't do anything else. There is NO value to teaching anymore....they just take credit when kids somehow get it on their own...usually at home from parents or by reading alot...you know....those quiet kids who are bullied mercilessly in public schools...
