2 adults, 3 children killed in northern Ohio house fire

A fire destroyed a single-family home in Seneca County, Ohio, on Tuesday.

Two adults and three children died Tuesday morning in a fire that destroyed a two-story farmhouse in northern Ohio, authorities said.

A truck driver traveling along State Route 162 reported the blaze in Reed Township at 3:17 a.m., said Dean Henry, public information officer for Seneca County.

When firefighters arrived, the single-family home was "fully involved," Henry said.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters went inside and found the bodies of two adults and three children – a 12-year-old girl and two boys ages 6 and 8, Henry said. The adults were believed to be the children’s parents.

The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately known. The state fire marshal was investigating.

No one else was in the home at the time and no firefighters were hurt, Henry said.

Firefighters from five departments -- Attica, Republic, Huron River, Monroeville and Bellevue -- responded to the blaze, according to The Toledo Blade.

Hope it wasn't from Christmas decorations or efforts to keep warm, as always seems to be the case this time of year. Overloaded light sockets, exposed wires or shorts in Christmas lights or extension cords, sparks fly out of an overloaded fireplace (or the wrong things are thrown in to burn), dog knocks over a heater, etc.

Although here's the irony in the Christmas light/decoration thing--there are approximately 309 million Jewish worshippers in the United States who light multiple candles every single weekend (Friday is their holy day, Shabbat), and you almost never hear of any fires related to Shabbat. Yet during the Christmas season, you can't go more than a few days without seeing one on the news.

Is it sad that I found that last part funny?

By "seeing one," of course, I meant Christmas-related fires. Jews know how to handle their wicks.

Why would he do that? If he cared, he would have let them live.

No. You think yours is the only viewpoint allowed to be expressed here?

You stop praising god and I'll stop telling you how foolish you are. How's that? If I have to listen to you guys, then you have to listen to me. That's the price you pay for living here. Deal with it or leave, you intolerant hypocrite.

What a way to "bless" someone - burn them to death.

How absolutely horrible this whole family has lost their lives. I wonder if they had smoke detectors? What a tragic way to die. There are far too many who die this way. I pray those who read this story will check their smoke alarms, or if they don't have any, will go out and get some immediately. May these people rest in peace. And all who loved them be comforted.

FIRE kills people because they don't know or understand it. It is just so regrettable that someone would have to face a horrible death from fire when prevention is so frigging easy and well known.

How about feeling some compassion for these people that just lost their lives people? Quit making it about your own stupid agenda whatever it is. Three children lost their lives you people post stupid comments. How about the truck driver that called to report the fire. I say thankyou to him for being a good citizen. Some school district just lost 3 students so at least be civil with your comments. This could happen in your community tonight so we should all check our smoke/fire detectors are working and always be thankful for today because none of us know if there will be a tomorrow.

Wish some people would have a heart!!! All the negative comments...sickens me. He was a co worker of mine for 11 years. We work for a small company. We lost one of our extended family. This man always provided for his family, he was a scout leader, and was involved in all his childrens lives. Even if he didnt know you, this man would have given you the shirt off his back. He was a very caring person. His childeren was his life.
