This is tragic, but this guy is going to pay big time when he goes to prison for the rest of his life. His beating by another inmate in jail is only the beginning.

A few years ago, a man in our town was arrested for sexually abusing two Cub Scouts. After his arrest, he was put in a cell with two other inmates and was beaten up so badly that he had to be hospitalized. The guards said they did not see anything because "the beating took place in an area of the cell where the camera did not pick it up."

I can only imagine what happened to him when he was sent to the big house.

The hint was there months ago..the justice system/state failed this poor little gairl.

How does anyone become so depraved that they would do something like this to an innocent six year old little girl. My guess is that he had been molesting her for some time while he was babysitting and she threatened to tell someone about the abuse. It is horrifying to think about what this little girl went through in her six short years of life. First her own father and stepmother are convicted of abusing her and chaining her up like an animal. Then her mom gets custody and leaves her in the care of a murdering pedophile. What I would like to know is where this guy's wife was while he was doing this to this poor little girl. I find it very hard to believe that she did not have some idea of what was going on. Was she part of it or was she just so cold and uncaring that she looked the other way?!?! Either way she deserves to do some prison time as well if it can be proven that she even knew what was happening. I would hope that her little sister has a better life, but that is not likely given the track record of her parents. Her mother obviously does not have the best judgement in the world and it does not sound like she is very observant. I can not see how a parent would not realize that something was wrong if their six year old was being molested. There would be behavioral changes that should have raised red flags. I do not believe that this guy molesting and killing this little girl was a one time thing. Since he had been babysitting her for a while it is almost a given that he had been molesting her for some time. The best thing that could happen would be for the younger sister to be placed in a safe and loving home with parents who will love her and take good care of her, although we all know that is not likely to happen. The younger sister will likely remain with the mom, which to me means that she faces a very worrying future as well.

As a long time and committed progressive liberal I wanted to be against the death penalty, I really did. Then I read the March 11, 1981 column by Mike Royko about Indiana death row inmate Steven Judy ( Google Mike Royko Steven Judy and open the first result.) From that point on I have been a proponent of the death penalty in certain limited cases. This is one of those cases. I live in a state that has had so many wrongly convicted death row inmates that our republican governor at the time commuted all death sentences to life without parole. Rightly so, if we use the death penalty there should be no doubt whatsoever about guilt. But in cases where children are raped and murdered and there is no doubt about guilt, I am all in favor of turning out the lights on these animals. Read Royko's column, it fits this situation perfectly.

When the mom left the girl in Holly's care, he was not known to be a murdering pedophile. The wife was probably taking care of their own kids, or taking a shower or whatever. Why he decided to act out his fantasies, we will never know, but chances are too, that this was the first and the last time he attacked the child.

I've heard these arguments before, blaming the women in the lives of the perpetrator for not giving him enough attention, too much attention, for not being aware, for whatever reason. Many women don't even know that their husbands are bedding their best friends until they walk in on them, let alone molesting children. Look at the sting operations that catch pedophiles, how many were considered to be good family men!

The mom didn't even have enough time with her daughter to find out what "normal" was, and after being chained up by her own father and his wife, she had probably been taught abnormal behavior, as well learning not to talk about whatever or whoever was bothering her.

I agree with you. However it is rare that it is allowed to just happen, as inmates know not only where but when to "hit" another inmate. I know this because I worked at a Federal Penitentiary as a C.O.

Hmmm... Let's all remember - at this point he is only a suspect, under arrest for three or four crimes. He has not had his day in court. More likely than not, the DNA evidence will be very strong to support conviction of this suspect.

Unfortunately that is most likely not going to happen. I have an ex-wife who's cousin killed both of his kids. It was a custody dispute and he lost so in his sick twisted mind "They aren't gonna be raised up with a bunch of (other races)." He admitted to it and took them to the bodies. That was in 1980. He has came before the paroles board countless times and always has said he didn't want out of prison because he should have been executed to start with. The reasons they didn't give him death was because he is Schizophrenic and not on his meds...yeah ok. Then stay.

The point is that this is in Texas! (As an example) And he has been in protective custody with other types that are not a threat to him. Everyone loves to say "He won't last a week"...well if Texas puts you in P.C. then you can bet the farm everyone else does. No prison turns a person out to General Population if they are in for crimes where their lives will be put at greater risk than a common burglar. That is just the way it is.

This guy will never be touched if convicted...even if he isn't on death row. The logic I guess is that if the prison knows he will more singled out be killed...then they have to make sure he isn't. I guess if you really think about it from the reverse, it makes sense if he wasn't sentenced to death. But it is not like the movies.

This happened in Arkansas. They use the Trustee system in jails -- where "good" prisoners look after the rest of them. It keeps costs down, you know.

I have to agree with JG - if she ended up in foster care, she would be shifted from family to family and here and there back to her father or mother. She was a beautiful child - but all children are beautiful - no matter their race. She didn't have a chance EVER.

We (NVer's) should find the funeral home and donate what we can - it will be a paltry gift to this child - flowers a decent gravestone marking her short life and all of us crying AFTER her death - but she deserves a nice grave, a restful spot for a child who managed to smile but probably never had peace.
