Not a single person was reported stabbed, shot or slashed in New York City on Monday, a possible sign of a downward trend in violent crime that could put the city at its lowest murder numbers since 1960 by the end of the year, according to a published report.
When asked about the absence of those incidents, chief NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the Daily News it was a "nice way to start the week" and added he couldn't recall a time when the city logged zero such cases in the same day.

Tom Repetto, an NYPD historian and author, told the News the absence of shootings and stabbings Monday was uncommon, but indicative of a larger trend.
"They're going to come in with the fewest number of murders since about 1960," Repetto said of the NYPD this year. "It's an almost impossible figure, but their programs have been fabulously successful in stopping crime."

Murders citywide are down 23 percent year over year, with 366 recorded thus far in 2012 compared with 472 the year before. The city is on pace to finish the year slightly above 400, Repetto said. Shootings are also down.
Total crime is up in the city by 3 percent this year, but officials attribute that mostly to an increase in grand larcenies connected to the rise in smartphone and tablet thefts. Police have implemented a series of programs to deter those crimes, particularly in subways.

Yes, we should be happy to hear this kind of news. But, the fact that this is news........speaks volumes--crime in big metropolitan areas are way too high. Big cities like this have major problems, weather issues are not the major factor for good or bad behavior in these areas--and should never be the reason. The issue we should be focusing on is gangs and the welfare socialism attitude our goverment is leading us towards. Maybe we should all look at each other and ask how we as individuals can do something positive. It could be as simple of a something as a smile.
Ultimately though, the issues that cause this sort of crime rate will not be solved by handouts that the current regime wants. It will come by efforts on all sides, police, government, society. A lot of crime, in my opinion, occurs because too many think "it's cool" or "easy" and "why not, we still get government money no matter what we do".
Unfortunately, our police are often dealing with what I consider B. S. things... " my friend smacked me" or that old recording " the deer is attacking me"...come on.. unless blood drawn, cannot move or real threat for life ( plus more cannot list all)-- do not call 911 -- basically, do not waste their time on miniscule things. Let the police do the job we gave them- don't pull their focus.
and in the meantime in Chicago they recently surpassed last years total of 435 murders......
Damn-a-Rahm-the ding dong
This is true Tired. Now Rahm and the CPD should see if what NYC is doing could be done in Chicago.

For a city the size of NY the crime numbers are much lower than other big cities. A statistical face ...94% of the
crime in NY is done by hispanics and blacks . 94% yes its true . If blacks and hispanics would just behave like white people NY would have one of the lowest crime rate as anyplace in the country.
Of course call me racist because I state facts
And Chicago with less than half the population of New York has over 460 homicides this year, on track for a 16% increase from 2011. And to put this in perspective, more people have been killed in Chicago than US troops killed in Afghanistan. Imagine that.
Why is it so bad in Chicago? Some argue it's how the new mayor, to save on money, had the Chief of Police end specialized tasks forces that were assigned to the highest violence areas (to help deter such crimes). Others point to Chicago and Illinois gun laws (such as Illinois is the only state where Conceled Carry has not been approved, which some argue means the crooks can be more brazen). Still more point to the poor education system in Chicago (where only 60% of students graduate high school compared to a national average of 75% .. and where teacher unions expect this performance is deserving of raises). Whatever the causes, its a madhouse in Chicago.
You know how bad it is? Liam Neeson could should Taken 3 in the city of Chicago and no one would likely notice, all the shootings and bloodshed would fit right in.
Way to go Obama. If the violent crime rate was rising, I am sure the whiners, losers and Beck, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and other whacko soldiers who voted for Romney would be somehow blaming you............so you must get the credit.
Incidentally, I notice that the whiners and losers who were rampant here before the election have somehow disappeared........as I predicted. They have gone under their rocks for another 4 years, but they are used to it....they were under rocks from 2000-2008, afraid to come out.
LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats because hoodrats cant afford to live in NYC anymore even in the @!$%# holes! those damn hobokens dont like to deal with that bridge traffic!
Someones getting done everyday.
This article is BS.
Have a nice life.
One day a week should be nothing but good news!
Do we have to make accuses for this day? Do we have to make jokes about trigger happy cops? Can't we see this as the good day it was? A day of no violent crime in NYC is a big deal.
All the crazies have been locked away in thier mommy's basement with their ifone. They lack the funds to go anywhere or funds to buy bullets.Besides, the peole who would likely kill have been actively campaining for Obama for the last year.Everyone knows republcans abide by the laws so republicans hadrly ever commit a crime.
There propably were several murders on monday. They just haven't found the bodies yet or the bodies are all in NJ.
Yea and they have been claiming all crimes are down in LA but I don't bleive the stats.Too much violence combined with too many out of work, always lead to incease in crime.Someone down at the old police bureau has found a way to show a large increase in violent crimes as shopliftings, that's all.
What a report of lesser of 2 "evils"...if the president of the USA would simply talk of the reality of Jesus Christ and who Jesus really is and what "repentance " is,,,,true repentance then we would have a murder rate of 0. You here me 0.....Man is sinful in heart and in his nature, no religion will earn any way to righteousness, because of the sin inherited in mankind do we have murder and grief and destruction, God the real God Yahweh has a plan and a rescue and anyone can receive the gift of salvation and once one repents the Holy Spirit will enter and help guide us not just in this life but the unseen kingdom of God where good will ultimately be separated from evil forever swelling into eternity. Jesus is the only way, wake up America..One murder is too many and we all do it in our hearts even when we do not act on it. Cut the junk Obama about embracing "all" religions, you mean the ones that make up all their own rules and put on a mask of deceit and righteousness? You mean those religions ? that is not peace, peace is calling sin out for what it is, death and destruction and being humble to enough to stand solely on the cross of salvation and not "good works" with fake gods and fake religious cloaks.
It's good to hear some positive news about things like this when it happens. With the multitudes of people that live in that city, this would be a real feather in their cap if it can hold up. I have some friends that live in NYC, and they love it and wouldn't live anywhere else - no matter what.
Whatever the reason for this 'down-turn' -- Kudos to the entire city of New York!
This can get better , allow churches to use public school facilities , the increase of real Christ evangelical churches is having many citizens embrace salvation and repent . the govt is working hard to block this in NYC to allow a fair and pluralist culture to flourish instead of Christ. True repentance will lead to less murder , Jesus is the only way. Praise God Father and Son Holy Spirit One for working on some peoples hearts on this day....allow free evangelical to flow not too much Catholic oppressions or skewed false religions..let the revival come to light in the NY and America, Jesus deserves all praise..All sin has been deception upon mankind, and no works based religions make people righteous, simply the blood of the Lamb heavens pure atonement...
Congrats New York City! It's so nice to get some good news!
The law enforcement community never gets enough credit-it's the politicians that will publicize their efforts and claim responsibility for their success. The police just do their dangerous jobs everyday without seeking recognition or accolades. Kind of sounds like our brave military. Thank a cop today-he could save your life tomorrow.
If you track random killings, eventually there will come a day with none. And there will also come a day with a hundred.
