Six middle school students in Richmond, Va., were suspended after they allegedly attacked their school bus driver. WWBT's Ashley Monfort reports.
Six students who allegedly assaulted a Richmond, Va., middle school bus driver Tuesday have been arrested and charged, according to the Richmond Police Department.
The unidentified students face felony aggravated assault and assault by mob charges, police said. A seventh student was suspended in connection with the incident.
Richmond City school administrators said the group of students attacked a bus driver on the way to Albert Hill Middle School at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The alleged assault left the 55-year-old male bus driver with serious face and head injuries, according to NBC12, a station in Richmond.
According to the police report, the alleged attack forced the driver to stop the vehicle and call the police.
"It's a dangerous position to be in," bus monitor Hilda Davis told NBC12. "To be attacked like that is a terrible thing to anybody. I feel all these drivers' pain. You know, it's a risk and somebody needs to be held accountable. I don't like this at all."
The mother of one of the alleged attackers told Richmond's CBS6 station that the incident began when students on the bus threw crayons at the bus driver. She claims that the driver became agitated and started hitting her son, which triggered the assault.
Police have not specified a motive for the alleged attack.
Richmond Public Schools spokeswoman Felicia Cosby said school officials are continuing to investigate the attack in cooperation with local police.
"We are taking this matter seriously and are working expeditiously with the Richmond Police Department to conduct a full investigation,” Cosby told CBS6. “Once we complete our investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. The safety and security of both our students and staff are paramount to our mission of promoting student achievement. The alleged misconduct will not be tolerated and those who exhibit such conduct will meet swift and appropriate discipline."

After watching the vid, it all makes sense now.
I just love it when someone thinks the same way I do. Thank You.
these kids should be placed in a correction center for kids until the age 18
Put corporal punishment back into the hands of parents and educators. The lack of discipline and expression of disrespect gives our youth the concept that it's alright to violate the rights of others. You disrespect my rights and the fight is on I don't care who you are. I WILL fight to defend my rights. Disrespect me and you get an a-- whooping!
Allysweep, suppossedly scientific research has determined that hitting a child is a bad thing. They say if you whip your children they will percieve that as being OK to hit people and you will turn them into bullies. I didn't make that up. As someone with a degree in early childhood behavior, I've read the research, didn't say I agree with it. Children should be protected from evil parents, but non-evil parents should be allowed to disicpline their children. There is a line there somewhere.
School employees have a right to defend themselves when attacked. If a kid is throwing something at you, you may physically stop them.
welcome to my world........
sounds like they need a can of whoop a$$ opened up on them. maybe next time they will think twice about being little pricks. hope they get whats coming to them.
I was wondering just how old could these middle school kids be? Then I watched the video and realised they could be as old as 18 or 20.
Making things up as you go along? None of the kids were shown.
These school bus drivers all need to be armed so they can defend themselves. If they had specilized military and martial arts training they could diffuse these uprisings with few casualties. For less aggressive engagements they should just use tasers to take these kids down. Anyway, I think that would help.
Tasers sound good!
For all of those bashing the guy who mentioned that unruly children are a product of liberal parents and took offense...keep in mind, "liberal" is NOT only a political term! Another definition that applies to his argument is:
"Favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression"
Although not exclusive, this does have validity.
These kids are more likely a product of neglectful parents. When selfish people have children they just don't teach their kids appropriate behavior. The parents don't know decent behavior themselves and leave the kids to their own devices to grow up. When kids are neglected they just don't learn appropriate behavior. All they probably know is being yelled at if they need any attention for anything.
I doubt their behavior problems are from liberal thinking parents. Many liberal thinking parents still raise their children with manners and respect.
EVIDENCE:
The driver sustained visible injuries... did the child??
I bet many of the children on that bus had cell phones and children love to video such events...Get those cell phones and look at them.
My hope is the children are given time off from school with no make up time, and it be put on a permanent record with the school as problem kids if not expelled for a violent act. These kids are trying to get away with as much as they can with bus drivers take away their free ride to school. Theres no excuse for bad behavior.
I am so sick of these out-of-control brats and their equally out-of-control, totally irresponsible parents.
They need to give bus drivers pepper spray or guard dogs. It's a really thankless job they have!
Ok enough is enough!! All kids should walk to their neighborhood schools. For get the bus!! If it is too far then the parents can drive them. !!!! It woll save the school sys. a ton of money and teach a lesson to parents & kids!
nuthin but black thugs!!! their mamma needs to go too!!!
With the current release of Steven Spielberg's movie 'Lincoln', some folks have most probably tried to learn more about this honorable man who was the 16th President of the United States. Even current heads of state across the globe read Lincoln biographies and study his writings...the Prime Minister of Belize being one of them. Perhaps this intrigue along with the knowledge that Lincoln's intention, had he remained in office, was to remove blacks from American society and relocate them to the Central American country of British Honduras (now Belize) is what prompted the Prime Minister to address the Belize Parliment concerning the idea of a National Day of Celebration. Discussions are currently underway in the National Assembly to make May 10th a national holiday in Belize...John Wilkes Booth's birthday. Ouch.
Oh yeah - just watched the video. Ah-ha.
I think bus drivers and teachers should be able to carry pepper spray for situations like this. I don't care if the kids are in elementary school. If they want to act like gangstas and hood rats they should be treated as such. Then when the situation is under control ship them to juvenile court and don't just give them a slap on the wrist. Not only that, children services should come in and check out the home environment and the parents should have to take their kids to some sort of diversion class and have to pass an evaluation upon completion.
I don't know who or for what, but I guarantee someone's getting sued...
First we need to find out the Race of these kids and the Race of the bus driver. Hell, this could be regarded as normal behavior for the kids.
They're bIack!!!
For this race of kids, it is normal.
Probably, they're black.
If it'd had been whites beating a bIack bus driver, Al (idiot, racist ) Sharpton would have been all over it on MSNBC crying racism and demanding their heads. Not a word about this on MSNBC TV or Sharpton.
Who gives a rat butt what their race is????? It is NOT OK for ANYONE to behave this way but..... that being said they probably were not from my side of the fence! We spank our kids for acting like idiots!
Typical behavior of bottom feeders!!!!
I can see the imagine the uneducated, dysfuntional, plantation thinking folks who raised these Bad a** disrespectful kids.....Excuses, excuses.....But I can remember when I was detained for behavior problems after school in the 6 grade (sassing the teacher) and my mother appeared at school and beat my A**, and I was lucky because if my father had to take off from work I would have been FU**** , I never gave a problem to the teacher again...Go to their homes and see what type of life they live there, how they are raised and what their parents think...I bet they are a disgrace....No more we shall over come....we have over come, but their are those who still shuck and jive, playin "masser's games"....Good ole plantation fools.....They need to raise their kids
spoken like a true trooper
My father told me if I got into trouble at school and he found out he would whop my ass even if I got it paddled in school regardless of my excuses.
This is what happens when parents do not raise their kids to respect their elders and behave themselves. We have taken discipline and GOD out of our schools. Its only going to get worse.
Amen!!! Travelman...
Go join al-Qaeda if you want to be amongst people who feel GOD should be mandated into every aspect of daily life and education.
Mike2791 al-qaeda is godless they only use his name to control stupid people like you to get power. You are one of the reason the world is in the shape it is now. When the majority of the USA where believers in the true God our country was in heck of alot better than it is now.
The problem with our society today when raising kids is that most parents, whether they want to admit it or not, expect the school administration to dish out the punishments for them. I keep hearing more and more stories of this type of behavior from kids and statements from parents suggesting that it was the school, bus driver, etc. fault for reacting to kids who are out of control. The kids in this matter probably deserve what they get. If this was one of my kids who did this, instead of me going to the media and insisting it was the drivers fault like the mother of one of these punks did, I would march him/her down to the school administration office and request a meeting with the driver. I would have my child apologize to the driver and school officials and make it clear that I accept the punishment that they give. Once home you can be sure that my kid will get an ass whooping from me. There are no consequences for the actions of out of control kids anymore. People have stopped parenting and hope schools will do it for them. Pathetic!
Agreed Kevin, that's what I would have done as well (probably why my kids never got in trouble at school).;)
Amen I agee totally.
At a minimum, no more bus service, ever, for these brats. Let the parents get them to school. Also the Driv er should sue each family involved, the perhaps the so called parents would pay attention to what their spawn are doing.
You can sue. You can even get a favorable judgment. Getting the money is another matter. Can't squeeze blood out of a turnip.
A little young to be involved in gang violence, don't you think? Middle school? Even if the "story" by one of the mothers of an accused kid is true, "vigilante" revenge on the driver would not have been the way. If middle school kids act this way, what does that tell us about kids, in general? Oh, I know, they are not "typical," right? "My" kids and their friends would NEVER act that way, right? The problem is that such acts of violence are becoming almost the norm for this society. And, yes, it IS the fault of the parents and the community at large. Take this as an omen, a sign of the future, unless more parents begin to take their responsibilities seriously. Morality training begins in the HOME. It is not the responsibility of schools. It IS the responsibility of the parents.
So true...
