Six middle school students in Richmond, Va., were suspended after they allegedly attacked their school bus driver. WWBT's Ashley Monfort reports.
Six students who allegedly assaulted a Richmond, Va., middle school bus driver Tuesday have been arrested and charged, according to the Richmond Police Department.
The unidentified students face felony aggravated assault and assault by mob charges, police said. A seventh student was suspended in connection with the incident.
Richmond City school administrators said the group of students attacked a bus driver on the way to Albert Hill Middle School at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The alleged assault left the 55-year-old male bus driver with serious face and head injuries, according to NBC12, a station in Richmond.
According to the police report, the alleged attack forced the driver to stop the vehicle and call the police.
"It's a dangerous position to be in," bus monitor Hilda Davis told NBC12. "To be attacked like that is a terrible thing to anybody. I feel all these drivers' pain. You know, it's a risk and somebody needs to be held accountable. I don't like this at all."
The mother of one of the alleged attackers told Richmond's CBS6 station that the incident began when students on the bus threw crayons at the bus driver. She claims that the driver became agitated and started hitting her son, which triggered the assault.
Police have not specified a motive for the alleged attack.
Richmond Public Schools spokeswoman Felicia Cosby said school officials are continuing to investigate the attack in cooperation with local police.
"We are taking this matter seriously and are working expeditiously with the Richmond Police Department to conduct a full investigation,” Cosby told CBS6. “Once we complete our investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. The safety and security of both our students and staff are paramount to our mission of promoting student achievement. The alleged misconduct will not be tolerated and those who exhibit such conduct will meet swift and appropriate discipline."

After they get this all sorted, which I am sure they will, then the kids should have to walk to school, in the snow, uphill both ways. Bus drivers shouldn't have to put up with this type of behavior. This just shows a lack of discipline and respect at home. My father would have made sure I was towing the line. Mom was nicer! I am guessing they don't have a father figure.
Maybe we should implement caning like they do in Singapore. At the least Singapore government sites caning as one of the major reasons why they have low crime and vandalism rates.
All those kids need a board across their butts! The laws in this country suck as one made previous to mine. The kids anymore get by with crap that when I was just a kid 40 years ago would have gotten a belt or a paddle at school and then again at home too! The kid that threw the crayons to begin with should not be allowed to ride the bus again the rest of this year plus be expelled out of the regular school system and be made to go to special school. There is no way many people will be bus drivers just because their is no discipline anymore for kids and they are brats to say the least. Go look at school districts across the country and there are always openings for drivers. The driver needs to get his medical bills paid for by the district, plus sue the school too for changes in discipline and money for pain/suffering.
Back in the day, we had a healthy fear of the bus driver.
Knew this was a African American thing even before I saw the Video!!!! We started a thing with our bus driver back when I was 14. Got my ass whipped good by Dad. Same thing these parents should do if they knew how to parent!!!
If my son was throwing crayons on the bus, I'd HOPE the bus driver slapped him up side the damn head. He would certainly get more when he got home too!!
What would it have taken to actually deserve a beating...a rock, brick, bullet, hatchet? The kids should have been slapped for being disrespectful period!!
It's pretty stupid to throw anything at an individual driving a bus you are ridding on. In addition to being crimminals they are also pretty dumb.
No one ever accused the little apes of being intelligent!!
I live in a county bordering the City of Richmond for a reason. Albert Hill Middle School ranks in the 25th percentile for middle schools in the state and over 50 percent of the students receive either free or reduced lunches. I'm not going to mention the demographics for this school...I'll let you Google that. Every year an incident like this happens in Richmond but you rarely if ever hear of something like this happening in surrounding counties. Call me what you want but these are just the facts...
Not my little "baby". He would never do that. (Read in a snarky voice). (No home training. No accountability.)
How about we let the little snowflakes walk to school?
"...students face felony aggravated assault and assault by mob charges..."
Pretty Serious charges ! There is no answer to this problem except Respect.
Respect is NOT earned, it must be given freely until lost. IMHO
"The mother of one of the alleged attackers told Richmond's CBS6 station that the incident began when students on the bus threw crayons at the bus driver. She claims that the driver became agitated and started hitting her son, which triggered the assault."
Yeah, it's always someone else's fault, isn't it? It just couldn't be your precious little chimpanzee's fault, could it?
They learn it from their leader..."never accept responsibility", "always blame someone else" IE: "It's Bush's fault"
Kids' parents need to teach them how to act. I was acquainted with a lady several years ago who had two boys in school. They often acted up in school. When the teacher gave them detention or sent them to the principal's office, they'd go home and tell their momma that the evil teacher was picking on them. Momma would ALWAYS go to the school and raise hell, and even threaten the teachers. A few years later, when they were adults, each of the boys went to prison for violent crimes. Their momma taught them that they coud get away with anything because momma would rescue them from their punishment.
Hopefully, someone in the joint will shank them in the shower.
There was an incident at my High School years ago where a "gang" of 115 lb Mexican kids attacked one of the school security guards. He wasn't seriously hurt (they were tiny Freshman-aged punks) but all of them were expelled. Their parents actually had the nerve to picket and protest the school as "racist."
Its on camera, and I'm sure it will be dealt with accordingly! Why incite anger on the web?
This is what happens when parents don't properly teach kids about authority and respect. I completely agree that the bus driver should have smacked the crap out of the kids. Then maybe they will learn that they aren't the boss and there are serious consequences to their actions.
I haven't seen any pics, but I'm smellin' coon pie...
So the bus driver was driving the bus down the road and he suddenly leaves his seat to attack her son. Either the mother is nuts or her baby can put anything over on her. All five of these bullies need to be expelled from the school and their records follow them wherever they go.
I anticipate One week suspension and counseling for the students, driver fired and school district sued by parents for not having security on bus with their children. It's a strange world we live in.
So these kids where just fooling around huh, well let's take a differant view of this. what if while just fooling around throwing things at the driver something hit him in the eye and distracted him from paying attention to the road and he had an accident and some poor family driving by gets killed or some of the other children on the bus are killed (pitcure your child on that bus for now) how would you view this then. Do we have to cage the driver like an animal to protect him or her from doing thier job? I say all students involved be suspended from school for two months and let them make it up during summer break and let thier parents figure out how to get them to and from school from here on out as be banned from taking the bus indefinitly.
If what the mother said is true; some of the children should be charged with 'provoking'. Further, there should be ample evidence of her child being hurt by an adult hitting him. I do wonder how that could be done while the drive was driving down the road. The children need to be investigated for gang involvement. I do not know too many children who would, short of life theatening actions on another child, jump in as a group to take down an adult. I truly hope this was one of the buses with a camera.
if my kids threw ANYTHING at an adult that wasnt trying to hurt them, i vwould beat the living crap outta them and they know it!
I have worked in the public system for almost 30 years. Having said that I feel sad to conclude that some folks-tweens, teenagers, young adults-not only like violence but promote it. Some people are just like that. They want to live the thug lifeand use the phrase YOLO (you only live once).
Most, if not all, of those middle schoolers will be jailed, committed, or dead within 5 years.
The public school system is not designed to raise children. They are designed to educate. If we don't have any support on the home front for accountability we, as educators, are set up to fail.
For those of you saying "kids will be kids" and "they were just throwing crayons"...imagine if you had even a car full of kids doing that to you. It's a distraction and has dangerous consequences. Now put yourself in this man's shoes. He has maybe 30+ kids on the bus, they're all starting to get rowdy and throw crayons. They obviously have no respect for adult authority, so they won't stop when he tells them to. Riding the bus is a privilege, not a right. If kids can't behave, their parents can take them to school.
little monsters should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
