'Pipe bomb' at school turns out to be plumbing tool

A high school in Bakersfield, Calif., was evacuated Friday after officials said a pipe bomb had been found in a bathroom, NBC affiliate KGET-TV reported.

But after a bomb squad was dispatched to North High School, it quickly became apparent that the "bomb" was really a plumbing tool that had been left there by a worker.

Students were earlier evacuated to the football stadium, and then released to their parents or taken home by school bus.

You people are disturbed. The item was simply a pipe nipple accidentally left behind by maintenance personel.

The only potential danger would have been that a person might trip on the thing.

The "OFFICIALS who REPORTED that a PIPE BOMB was FOUND" are the ones who are disturbed. But then again, better safe than sorry where a bldg. full of kids are concerened.

NBC...get the details straight before reporting these things ie; (a "POSSIBLE" pipe bomb or what officials "BELIEVE" to be a pipe bomb")...geesh!!!!!!

The news outlets prefer attention grabbing headlines.

Maybe instead of teaching kids it's ok for a boy to wear a dress to school or the wonders of islam we could teach them useful information

High School? Wow! That's the Public School system at it's finest. Paranoia and stupidity go hand in hand. I guess the Liberal Arts classes are much more useful than shop classes. Especially in Bakersfield..... I bet the kids were laughing their asses off when they ran up to a Teacher saying it's a Bomb! I suspect most knew exactly what it was, being an Agricultural Region. Snow Day!!!

If it "quickly became apparent that the 'bomb' was a plumbing tool", why were the kids sent home?

What disturbs me is that the school personnel could not tell the difference between a plumbing tool and a pipe bomb. People who are in a position of trust should know more about the real world and their surroundings and not be so quick to jump to (stupid) conclusions. Maybe they should have posted a picture of the tool with a caption "This is a tool, not a bomb." so other school personnel will know next time.
