James Krumm, 56, and Heidi Arnold, 42, were stabbed to death on Friday by Krumm's 25-year-old son, Christopher Krumm.
Police say a Wyoming community college teacher James Krumm was a hero for fighting off his son on Friday, potentially saving the lives of six of his computer science students.
"I can tell you the courage that was demonstrated by Mr. Krumm was absolutely without equal," Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh said, according to The Associated Press.
On Friday, Christopher Krumm, 25, stabbed his father’s girlfriend to death before driving to Casper College, where his father was teaching a class. He was equipped with a compound bow and arrow and two knives, which he carried into the building under a blanket.
When he entered the classroom, Christopher Krumm stood about four feet from his father, pulled back the bowstring and shot an arrow through his father’s head, the Casper Tribune reported.
His father, James Krumm, 56, fell but got back up and struggled with his son, the Tribune reported.
That’s when Christopher Krumm stabbed himself, then plunged the knife into his father’s chest, killing him, Walsh said.
When police arrived, the elder Krumm had died and the younger was taking his final breaths.
Back at his home, girlfriend Heidi Arnold’s body lay in front of the house for 11 hours, neighbor Heather Meier told the Tribune. Arnold, 42, was barefoot and her midriff was visible, Meier said. Authorities didn’t cover her body.
"I can’t keep it out of my head," Meier told the Tribune.
Police believe that Christopher Krumm drove from Vernon, Conn., where he was living, and booked into a motel on the outskirts of town on Thursday, the day before the killings.
Matt DiPinto, a neighbor in his apartment building in Vernon, described an interaction he had with Krumm to the Hartford Courant newspaper. Krumm was giving him a ride back from McDonald’s.
"He told me his dad gave him Asperger's (syndrome), that his dad shouldn't have passed it on," DiPinto said. "He said his dad should be castrated. I didn't know him that well, he just kind of said it out of nowhere, so that kind of threw me off a little."

On the Casper College website, James Krumm described himself as a teacher born in London, England and partly raised in Germany. He started teaching at Casper College in 2002.

@sam_3910195 The comparison to more guns versus more traffic is an illogical statement. Since the presence of a vehicle on the road does not constitute a "threat" in the mind, but you bring a gun into a room and anyone that doesn't pay attention is likely high.
Just owning a car doesn't factor to many. But if you think the possible presense of security measures do not deter criminals, you are obviously high.
Research the mortality rates in States. Compare the number with gun laws versus minimal laws. Take into account the events of today... Conn. is smack dab in the very liberal New England area... hundreds of miles from a "Conservative" state. Don't expect too many gun shops or NRA rallies held there.
Whereas Wyoming? Redneck does come to mind. Hunters galore and what, no gun? Willing to wager that the household probably had at least 3... never met a bowhunter that didn't have at least a sidearm to fend on more aggresive wildlife.
And I have no doubt, this time of year.. at least a handful of student has hunting rifles in the gun racks of the trucks... so I can assume with some realibility, that he used a bow and knife more for stealth. Considering that someone would have que'ed in on the rifle long before he got anywhere near the building.

Yes City of Casper inquiring minds want to know? This lady was a human being not an elk or deer for Christ's sake!!! Do the police & investigators really believe that the neighbors needed/wanted to witness such a gruesome scene? A simple pop up tent would have been the least the city could do in such a situation.
Forget covering her body!!!! That's the least they should have done. I am wondering why it took 11-hours for them to remove the body. I've been a courts and crime reporter for a long time. I've never seen them leave the body of a murder victim laying at the scene for 11-hours much less uncovered the entire time. Usually the crime scene detectives come in to take pictures and collect evidence and after taking pictures usually the first thing they do is allow the coroners office to bag the body and take them to the crime lab for autopsy.
That one detail is almost as disturbing as the actual crime this young man committed. What a tragedy all the way around.

This is such a tragic event. God bless people's exhibits' of selfless bravery. It's hard to believe that a son would kill his own parents, but God has made it so that not everyone in this world possesses the right state of mind. I'm sure that this man will be rewarded for his feat of bravery in Heaven.

My first thought with this and other similar tragedies - love your kids, get to know your kids, spend time with your kids, teach your kids, punish your kids when they need it, involve your kids in your life, know what your kids are doing, praise your kids when good things happen, don't ever be "too busy" for your kids - your kids are ultimately your responsibilty and usually a direct reflection of the amount of attention you give to them. If you don't won't to invest in them, don't have them. JMO

You are so ill informed. Banning guns will not stop people from being shot. Drugs are illegal but people still get them. Murder is illegal, but people still kill. Driving Drunk is illegal, but people do it everyday. Can I give you any other examples?
If you ban guns all you will do is increase the criminal element because criminals will get them through the black market and the value of a gun will skyrocket. People will sell them to anyone so they can make a dollar.
I am currently a law abiding citizen who owns guns. You come into my house uninvited you will be shot. You respect me, my family and my property we will not have a problem.
But if you ban guns. I will not give them up freely. I will fight to the death to keep them and if I live I will continue buying them and protecting my family with them...that would then make me a criminal and I know thousands of people like me and there are millions more I don't know that would do the exact same thing.

SophieHauser22, there is no need to control bows and arrows. Instead, everyone should carry a set of bows and arrows with them so that if a situation like this occurs, everyone can start shooting arrows in all directions.
The big difference is only one person was killed in the school, had he walked in with an AK47 and a 100 round clip we would be hearing a completely different story, all 8 students would be dead.
It appears he went there to kill only one person as evidenced by the fact that after doing so he killed himself.

Tell me, my unjustly morally outraged friend, why has there been less and less violent crime PER CAPITA for 30 years now, at the same time more States are passing concealed carry permit laws and there are more people and more guns in this country than ever?
There are something like 40,000,000 - 60,000,000 gun owners with 300,000,000 guns in this country. There are less than 10,000 gun murders every year in this country (keep in mind population keeps going up but that number doesn't). That's .0033% of guns causing murders (or 33 in 10,000 guns), and .025% - .0167% of gun owners causing murders (or 25 in 1,000 gun owners - 16.7 in 1000 gun owners). And many of those murders are in places with the strictest gun laws...which is logical since law abiders are the only people following those laws (making them easy targets for criminals).
It's such a low risk to life it's pathetic.

Get some perspective. If you aren't more than 3 times as afraid of a person in a cold sweat, coughing and sneezing, than you are a person carrying a gun, then you are COMPLETELY, inarguably, illogical and irrational.

BTW...guns are a NET GAIN of life. Far more than 10,000 people (the number of deaths) are saved by guns in the USA every year. Some estimates are as low as a few tens of thousands, and one estimate done by a Clinton era study (by his government administration) showed 2 million lives saved a year. Even if you discount the larger number, and only use the smaller number, guns are a huge net gain of life. If you ban them other types of violent crime will increase, and so will deaths (by other means).
And that's where logic and game theory mathematics (specifically deterent elements) come in.
This was a murder/suicide. Nothing more, nothing less. He had no intention of killing anyone buy his father, hence the stabbing himself in the heart part. Trying to paint the father as hero is just plain nonsense. It didn't matter what weapon he used, the result would have been the same. One dead father and one dead son.

When a man enters a building armed with a crossbow, the intent is not to commit mass murder. A cross bow takes time and an awkward position to cock for another shot. (to say nothing of the nasty task of retrieving the bolt touse on the next victim) Dad's intent may have been heroic, by allowing the students to escape, but I can't help thinking that even with the two knives still in play, six students had a pretty good chance of bringing down one assailant.
Not a crossbow, a compound bow. A compound bow looks like a regular bow except there is a pulley system at either end to make drawing back easier. Your point is still well taken though.

This is about as tragic as it can get. This kid had more than Aspergers syndrome, he had a borderline personality disorder as well. Unable to process his feelings, he came to distorted, bizarre conclusions. Sad all around.

How sad! That son must have shown some tendencies to violence before this tragedy. It is a pity that our system lacks preventive programs and help for people with aggression and violent behavior. Unless they break the law nothing is being done to prevent it from happening.

Well, if Asperger's syndrome is non-existant, then maybe sonny boy is a Shlthead instead.
My son has high functioning Asperger's Syndrome and no one has a clue where he got it from. The best I can guess, IF it's genetic, is that it skipped a few generations. New research suggests that the Autism cluster, including Asperger's, may be caused by the mother suffering a high fever over several days during gestation. I suffered several infections and at least one case of a high fever as well as high blood pressure when I was pregnant with him. More research needs to be done, but do not think the Autism cluster is passed down.
Anyway, this young man was very sick and his dad was most likely the only target at the school. Asperger's people get fixated and stick to a single goal which doesn't usually include going after sensationalism like the kind that mass murderers are after. But they are also prone to outrageous rationalities, which is probably why he blamed his dad.

Casper Wyoming has been my home for over fifty years. I attended Casper College as a young man and it is a fine school with great teachers. Casper is a small community where most people know each other and one can walk into any coffee shop and find a familiar and friendly face and good conversation. The very nature of this tragic incident has left the community in shock. That this happened here makes it seem that no place is immune because mental illness is everywhere that there are people and it is so difficult to foresee when someone with mental issues can snap and do something so regrettable.
The comments & the stories merely reflect the basic problem of general inability to effectively be humble, thankful, loving & appreciative. 'Christopher Krumm'? Sounds like a cheesy Bond villain anyway.
The blame game should stop. This kid blamed his father. It's likely that the father blamed his son so the son imitates the father in the blame game. Why to this degree, don't know. But, blaming is the nth degree the problem. We all do it and to that degree we should stop it and take responsibility. Our media our congress our whole country looks to blame and when someone actually takes responsibility they are thrown to the wolves. Case in point, Patreaus took responsibility for something so benign, but we are so into tabloid mentality we throw the best people to wolves while the real wolves sitting in wall street and banks with their nice serene smiles kill us all financially. Obviously the banks aren't going to take responsibility and we let it go on and just blame. We should demand congress to stop the insanity of blaming and get this country into the black or we will be as dead as this family.
We can blame Congress for all of the senseless blaming that's going on?
