The Hanukkah menorah is a sign of peace and joy, symbolic of a miracle in the Jewish religion.
But a menorah in Miami Beach, Fla., has also become an attraction for hate speech, with someone scribbling "you killed Jesus" on the base of the prominent Chabad Hanukkah display.
Rabbi Zev Katz, who put up the menorah, is disappointed.
"I hoped that people from other religions, we could all get along, we all have what we believe in, respect each other and live with each other," said Katz, of Chabad House in Miami Beach.
At Temple Beth Torah, in the Wellington community near West Palm Beach, there was more anti-Semitism this past weekend. In that incident, somebody painted a swastika along with some offensive words on a dumpster.
The Anti-Defamation League condemned both incidents and reported them to the authorities. Desecration cases like these sometimes go unsolved, but authorities use such reports to track any possible hate crime trends.
Unfortunately for Rabbi Katz, this isn't the first anti-Semitic attack against his giant menorah.
"Twelve years ago someone smashed it, terrible, and we weren't sure if we're going to actually light the menorah the first night of Hanukkah," he said.
But they did then, and they will again this Saturday night as Jews ring in the first night of Hanukkah. Organizers said they are expecting 1,000 people to attend.

This whats wrong with this world, its not the religion, its just that folks that don't want to get along. Its always about "Me ". I may not be Jewish but somewhere along the line we are from the lineage, unless you believe in the monkey attitude. I believe that i was created in that I truly am blessed, with a past family and present one. An as of last month my family grows with miracle of another grandbaby. Can we just agree to disagree so we can live in peace for the season. If you don't believe like some of us do, it may be your lost. Don't think there is not hyprocites in churches, but to those who walk the walk, & talk the talk, great because one thing for sure, as sure as the sun rises each day we were all born of sin. To those who destroy church markings, cemetaries markers may shame be upon you. It isn't yours to destroy, what if some destroyed your moms gravestone property. I guess really I'm wasting my breath on some of those who think they are always right and the rest can go jump in the lake attitude. As a human beings we are always learning until we take our last breath. We are learning to die with peace & grace, to those who believe for grace to be waiting for us on the other side, whatever it may be to you....

I think it was the motivation of this hate crime that killed Jesus. If Christ came back today (and probably does), it would be Christians who would crucify him first.

Determining who killed Jesus is the mode of Jesus' death—by crucifixion. In Jesus' time crucifixion was a Roman punishment inflicted mainly on slaves and revolutionaries. The usual Jewish mode of execution was stoning.

While true, if one is to believe Biblical history, what you're doing there is a bit like pushing someone in front of a bus and then denying that you killed anyone because the bus is what did the damage that resulted in the fatality.
Least we forget, Jesus was a Jew and it was the Romans who killed Him.
The Romans only carried out the Executions, you can say that the Romans killed Jesus but he was tried and convicted among his peers. Even after that Pilate still didn't think he warranted death and to appease the people they still had a choice Barabbas or Jesus and the people chose Barabbas so we can continue to speculate as to whom killed Jesus.
Plus, it was so long ago, and the records of that time are so scarce and unreliable, that nobody really knows what happened.
The thieves, beggars and liars who Jesus preached to are the ones who killed him.
Just like an artist who struggles their whole life creating masterpieces where the works of art do not find value until after the artists death, Jesus' death occured in the same manner.
Art dealers who want masterpieces before the artist knows that their work is in fact works of art will conspire with those around the artist to make the artist think that their work is of regular value either paying them commission for their work but rarely the high prices that the artist is asking.
Once the artist dies the art dealer then increases the value of the artists work knowing the artistic value of the piece was actually worth more than what the commission for the work was initially paid for.
Why?
Greed. Just like a thief will conspire to steal merchandise at a low value knowing its actual value will be more.
The same thing happened with Jesus. Jesus protected the thieves, liars and beggars from the Roman coliseum where they were used as food for the lions and other animals of the coliseum.
When it came time however for Jesus' followers to stand their ground and defend him against the Roman Emporer who thought of himself as being God his followers saw that they would not become rich serving him and his cause because like any King he would merely be the same as any other King or Emporer that had come before him. But his followers knew that they would become rich and much like the artist whose paintings are made into high value after the artists death so too would Jesus' followers become rich after his death.
How? After Jesus's death their was much turmoil in the Roman Empire from which the same followers being the very Dreg's that they were would steal and victimize those who were in turmoil thus making theirself rich.
Recently Sarah Palin made a comment on Fox News about how Christ needed to be put back into the Holidays.
In typical pirate fashion Sarah Palin and the Dregs of Fox News have created conspiracies surrounding Christmas being under attack with idiots like Bill O'reilly being caught saying this.

O'reilly steps all over himself constantly saying the Christmas is not imposing the philosophy of Christianity over America.
If this is true then why is a Christmas Tree named a Christmas Tree? The Christmas Tree has nothing to do with the birth of Christ!
The area where Jesus Christ was born didn't even have any Pots and Pans Banging pine trees that are used in the affirmation of Jesus being born on December 25th which is the same day that Kris Kringle brought toys to the children of his village to make them happy and to help them aspire to create by releasing wonder in their minds about what they had been given.

The reason why the Thieves, Liars and Beggars made the claim that Jesus had been born on December 25th is because such people wanted all of the world for theirselves but more importantly all the money of the world for theirselves (elves) funny how that word appears isnt it?
Santa Claus was attributed with an ancient Germanic belief of which Odin was the chief God of the Germanic people.
In Romes plight to control the entire world under the dictatorship of a single King and a single religion such as was the Roman Empire the Roman empire made their claims that Jesus had been born on the same day of Germanic Holiday celebration so that their religion would be cast over the Germanic belief so that the thieves, liars and beggars who had betrayed Jesus could erase all forms of religion so that all would be forced to follow the religion of the thief, liar and beggar where such people would use any object of reference associated with the murder of Jesus as a means of mentally killing any other notion.
The Christmas Tree is the tip of the spear meant to convey that if all do not follow and profess their religious belief or non - belief that they would meet the same fate as Jesus who they crucified so they could make money from.
On Christmas many children are forced to believe that Jesus has been born within them and that the presents that they receive were gifts from him so that later on their emotions can be turned upside down when they are told how Jesus was betrayed and the murdered upon the cross so that others can steal their happiness because to make them feel sad and to make their own thief dens full of plunder or keeping the happiness of the children locked away because the thief, liar and beggar was not happy but is now happy because they have what others do not have.
The long period between December 25th and the teaching of when Jesus was murdered can be looked upon as being the shaft of the spear of which the Christmas Tree or the Spear of Destiny is placed upon and then used by the thieves, lairs and beggars to persacute those that did not give them what they wanted where they use many forms of psychology to create a literal burden on the person to make them do something against their will in order for the person holding such a spear to become like a King with riches and wealth beyond what another has.
O'reilly and those of Fox News are also idiots because O'reilly who continually says that Christmas does not impose a single religion over another and says that America was founded on Christian-Judeo beliefs forgets that before the religion of the Middle East came to America the Native American Indians, of which my family has Cherokee Indian blood, was considered a spiritual country where the comminality between the land, animals and the weather taught the American Indians alot of respect to not be greedy and use only what they needed and not waste anything for everything was part of the sacred circle of life where one life gave up its soul so that others could survive.
But then along comes the bands of thieves, liars and beggars that had murdered Christ upon the cross making mockeries of such beliefs making war upon her and her children because just like all thieves, lairs and beggars all they want is what others have for their own greed.
So if Bill O'reilly and the rest of his idiots want to continue to vomit their lies before them and their audience of thieves, liars and beggars then let them.
Any American with any trace of Indian Blood in their veins what so every can see through the lies that surrounds such people as O'reilly, just like the wolf, the coyote, the jaguar, the cougar, the rabbit and the field mouse all see that evil that follows in the footstep of people like O'reilly.
No where in the Constitution of the United States of America does it say that America was founded on the principles of a Christian-Judeo belief. Such a remark is fascism and pertains that only one religious belief is allowed or any belief is allowed as long as it falls under the dome of the Roman Empire of whom conspired and killed a man who only sought to teach those deemed lesser that they those who think that they are the majority are in fact more than they are.
O'reilly also mentioned that Licoln Chaffee was in the minority and imposing his will making people unhappy. It sounds to me that Bill O'reilly is the one imposing his will as a dictator or the leader of thieves on America so that they will fear anything not associated with Christmas which as stated above is method for such people like O'reilly to impose or force their belief on someone else where the fear of death of persacution is used to make another give of theirself (elf) just so that they can live richly.
The same thing that was done to Jesus is being by O'reilly.
America is not a Christian-Judeo system of beliefs for the simple fact that the beliefs of America have been around along time before Christ was even born. So how is O'reilly not imposing his belief over America?
They called her children satanic.....may their own curse of the man they put on cross for their own profit eat at their souls for all eternity.
Oh and one last thing. People like O'reilly need to know that when they invoke the life and death of Jesus in their profiteering scams they may live rich and happy and over those while on Earth but when they die their soul replaces his upon the cross for all eternity for atonement for the Original Sin of Betrayal.
I am proud to have Cherokee Indian in my blood and I will not say that Jesus died for what I believe in because I did not ask him to die for me so I could make a profit from his death as a thief, lair or beggar would.
Only someone like O'reilly would profess the betrayal and murder of Christ to make a profit off of to make himself feel like a King....your cross awaits you O'reilly and for all eternity.

Dwight, you wrote a novel but I just want to correct an error, you said that Jesus protected the beggars and thieves from the Coliseum? There was no Coliseum in Jesus' day, the Coliseum (Flavian Amphitheater) was not completed until AD 80 which was decades after Jesus' death.
It's all astrological. December 25th is significant in several religions because like Christianity, they're based on astrology. Other religions had virgin births. miracles. walked on water, death by Crucifixion, resurrection after 3 days, etc etc.

Actually, Jesus WAS a Jew.
The morons who do this sort of thing are typically far-right, ignorant, "Christians". They don't understand that Jesus was a Jew, that he said he did not come to "change the law", he did not found any religion, nor that "Christianity" is based upon the teaching of Peter and Paul, not Jesus.
We still can't prove Jesus was ever born in the first place.
The Romans were meticulous record keepers, and have no record of putting some Jesus fellow to death.
We don't even have his supposed birth date right (Not December 25th - that was a date stolen from ancient pagans to make it "easier for them to convert", but more like some time in June).
We have no verifiable historical documentation of his life (The writings of Josepheus are an admitted and confirmed forgery, and the bible is a self-serving circular arguement).
And finally, even if we do accept the biblical accounting, it was the Jews who came screaming to Pilot for this man's death - something he clearly stated he wanted nothing to do with, but left men and materials at their disposal so they'd shut up and go away.
So, while tasteless to deface someone's decoration, the message is not entirely wrong either.
But, where religion is concerned, who cares about facts - as long as it brings in the people, and more importantly, their tithes/donations, that's all that matters.

See my comment a few posts down. Pilate killed Jesus, and there are almost no surviving Roman records. It was the Germans, who kept the meticulous records.

See history, actual real history. The Romans kept records of keeping records. The Germans learned from them how to keep records. Look at all we know of ancient Rome, from the time of Socrates and Plato - Panaetius and Cicero, all dead hundreds of years BC. Or Pythagoras, Archimedes, or Boethius... their works preserved, records of their births, lives and deaths preserved.
Save the revisionist history for desparate zealots.

Pontius Pilate killed Jesus, after a "Show Trial". Look at Luke, Ch. 13, v. 1, or Josephus--a contemporary who also wrote about Pilate.
Jesus' "trial" by the Sanhedrin violated so many basic Jewish rules of due process, that the only way it could have happened, was if the accused/Jesus waived his rights, and agreed to be Pilate's victim.
If you look at it this way, it ties up several loose ends in the Gospels.
If you are gullible enough to believe in any of the mythology it doesn't matter who killed him, as they were just fulfilling prophecy.
I'm willing to bet that if the perp is found, he/she is Jewish. Happens all the time.
