Corey Curtis, 44, was sentenced to three years of probation on Monday with the condition that he is not to procreate until he
can support the nine children he fathered with six women.
A Wisconsin judge has ordered a man who owes $90,000 in child support after fathering nine children with six women to not have any more kids, at least for now.
Racine County Circuit Court Judge Tim Boyle sentenced Corey Curtis, 44, to three years of probation on Monday with the condition he is not to procreate until he shows he can support his children, according to court documents.
Curtis pleaded no contest in October to one count each of felony bail jumping and failure to pay child support.
Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Sommers said Curtis owes about $50,000 in back child support, plus another $40,000 in interest to the mothers, the Journal Times reported.
“Common sense dictates you shouldn’t have kids you can’t afford,” Racine County Circuit Court Judge Time Boyle said at a hearing, according to the Journal Times. “It’s too bad the court doesn’t have the authority to sterilize.”
In his decision, the judge cited a 2001 case in which Wisconsin Supreme Court justices upheld a Court of Appeals ruling that a judge may, as a condition of a person’s probation, order the defendant not to have another child unless he can show financial viability.
Curtis told local station WDJT-TV he planned to comply with the unusual order in his case.
"Judges, they make rulings," Curtis said. "They make them kind of hastily. So, if that's what he feels one of my conditions should be then I'm going to abide by it."
This isn't the first time a judge has made a ruling intended to block breeding.
A Kentucky judge in March ordered a man who had fathered a dozen children by 11 women to refrain from having “any sexual intercourse” for the one-to five-year period he’s on parole.
A Texas judge in 2008 sentenced a 20-year-old mother to 10 years probation for not protecting her 19-month-old daughter from abuse by the child's father. The judge ordered her to not get pregnant during her probation.

Just thought of another problem: Who is assigned to keep an eye on him until $80,000 is payed back? Sounds to me like he is a very busy man, so 24/7 round the clock observation is going to cost the county and tax payers more money.
Like him or not, now there's judge with some brass. He simply said what many Americans have been saying forever. If you can't afford kids, don't have any. Yes, having kids is actually a choice, dahhhhh.
It is too bad we can't tie both him and his girlfriends reproductive tubes.

I thought the Clinton administration was suppose to set time limits to welfare.
They did.....Obama's peeps revoked the limits due to the economy. Now more worthless people that don't want to work can stay home and screw and get free food, housing, medical marijuana (I have a problem dealing with society!!!) and all of the other handouts. Now he wants more unemployment benefits along with 1.6 trillion in new taxes and no control over the debt ceiling by congress. Our King has spoken!
While Obama did push down responsibiity to states on how to administer work requirements, I'm not sure he extended the limits on how long you can collect.

It was on MSNBC yesterday in the article showing what his plan was to keep us from going off the clift...so to speak. He wants unemployment benefits extended longer and we know you can't feed your kids and pay the rent on $400/week. I can't remember where I read about lowering the requirements for foods stamps and other goverment assistance. But we can't keep paying people to stay home and have babies they can't afford. That is what has caused this nation to be a nation of people who want stuff for free, no responsibility. That's just my opinion.
I did not see that article. Obama has zero sense when it comes to the economy, he has never really had a real job, oh maybe the couple of years he was a lawyer.

Failing miserably at it while shuttling money to phony "solyndra" type "alternative energy" embezzlement schemes is not exactly a job well done.
Uh... how about just stop incentivizing personal choices entirely. You know, eliminate tax deductions, hand outs, and break the cycle. Limit the amount of time a person can receive public assistance, with the exception of the disabled and elderly. (SS does have its place.) Or perhaps follow the European model with the strong safety net -- you'll get your needs met, but YOU WILL WORK FOR THEM.
exactly Matt. thats the only thing that will work, but people are too scared to enact it. without the incentives, and left with the responsibility, people make better choices. when not accountable, then you have idiots who think they have both the "right" to have as many children as they want, and the "right' for someone else to pay the bills for it.

Perfectly fine if it is a condition of bail but the judge's comment about forced sterlizaton was weird and disturbing.
Then YOU pay all the welfare these baby factories collect while spitting out kids left and right.
You can pass all the laws you want that restrict welfare payments but you can't tell someone they can't procreate. That's an invasion of the fundamental rights of being a human and gives the government authority to say whose bloodline survives and whose doesn't.

My husband and I opted for sterilization after two children. Very responsible thing to do!

This is a story from June. it is unbelievable that these women were involved with this man. it is a sad commentary on the moral values of people, and their lack of taking personal responsibility:

And nine of those children were born in the last three years, after Hatchett -- who is something of a local celebrity -- vowed "I'm done!" in a 2009 TV interview, saying he wouldn't father more children.
But Hatchett is back in the news this week because he's struggling to make ends meet on his minimum-wage job. His inability to make child-support payments on such a meager salary also means he's back in court again and again, most recently to ask for a break on those payments.

The fact is that most of the men and women who are featured in these stories have a very low education.
oh they know sex can make babies. and they know the gubment will take care of those babies. they need edgumucation in responsibility, start by taking that baby money away...
This is no penalty for the "man." It is no penalty period. The "mom's" get welfare for these little "darlings" and no baby daddy is needed. Kids are covered with insurance, food, clothes, charity, and the kindness of the American taxpayers. We do not teach common sense nor can we legislate morality--therein lies the problem--no solution.

A good high-volume spay-and-neuter clinic would be better.
The average cost of raising a child to their 18th birthday, is well over a quarter-million dollars. Nine off-spring would be roughly $2.5 MILLION dollars.
And there is tremendous government waste in the multi-layered bureaucracy that fleeces the tax-payers to then hand out our tax dollars willy-nilly. I have no idea how much overhead this adds, but I would not be surprised in the slightest if the total net cost to pay to raise his spawn was $5 MILLION.
And that isn't even the tip of the iceberg- the thing that is taking our great nation down the toilet is that we reproduce failure at a much greater rate than we produce success. My child got her high school diploma several years early and is now pursuing nursing in college, for the benefit of others. She has salready done several international missions trips, has been shooting since she turned 7, and has been driving since she was 11. The spawn of this sh!t-bird are almost 100% sure to grow up to be drug addicts, felons, and reproduce an exponentially greater measure of failure than their "baby-daddy".
When I saw the headline of this article, my first guess before seeing the photo above was that the guy in question here was a brother, a Black man. I was not surprised to find out that I was right. This dude can't take care of any of the multiple children that he has fathered. Based on his opinion about the judge's decision, he wasn't going to stop having unprotected sex with women who aren't on birth control and fathering more children. He should have been sterilized. What kind of women has he been having sex with?

I hate to burst anyone’s bubble about free birth control – and yes, I am all for it, but it would not solve this problem. I have been privy to many conversations among minorities, and it is believed among many that Planned Parenthood is a conspiracy to keep minority populations in check. It is also not considered bad, and even considered a badge of honor to have a baby to contribute to the minority population. Just passing the word along – and no, I don’t have any problems with any specific races – I am an idealist, and was surprised to have my eyes opened in this way. . . . This isn’t a birth control problem, or an educational problem, it is a societal problem that goes much deeper.

Agreed. Too bad we can't leagally sterilize people. Can't feed em? Don't breed 'em. Condoms and birth control pills are cheap. Look into using them before having sex next time. Thank you.

Yup. We could stop failure in one generation. But we don't. We continue to reproduce failure at an exponentially obscene rate.

And in the mean time - we have reality TV broadcasting live to every home across the nation the Duggars - with their 18 or 19 kids. I doubt very much they could afford all the kids without the revenue from the show - so Mr. Do-good-minister-type sold out the whole damned family for a never ending role in the hay.
This is a major directions that people are using to avoid working and live off the system. The children from this procreation are the future criminals, the mother in this case does "all she can" but the child grows up in an environment without any parents. To be political these people want the rich to be taxed so that they will get more entitlement money so they vote for politician that will promise them more handouts.
Not only that, but I believe Mr Duggar is a politician who receives his check from the State Government-just another form of welfare.
Breeding more criminals is all!! These animals are keeping this country in debt!
