I once had a conversation with one of these 'women' who boasted that she would sleep with men for the very purpose of becoming pregnant and trying to leach off the child support. In this case, the woman was black too, but I have learned since then that this is a very prevalent thing amongst black women, and black men fall for it quite easily.

My father had 9 children also, but the difference is that they were all by the same wife, and he supported them. That was back in the old days when it was still possible to support such a large family. We didn't exactly live in luxury, but we got by all right. Although it is not made clear in the article, one would assume that at least some of the mothers and their children are receiving welfare benefits. We need a sharp reform of the welfare system now. The GOP is busy trying to turn Social Security over to Wall Street and investment bankers and make Medicare a voucher system so they can puff up their standing with the insurance industry lobby, calling them "Entitlement Programs", although every working American is forced to pay into them, yet they ignore the true entitlement programs where we really need reform.

Welfare was meant to be a hand-up for those unfortunate enough to fall onto hard economic times. It was never meant to be a generational hand-out to which a certain segment of our society has become addicted. There should be a twelve month limit on benefits out of every ten years. The current per-person food stamp amount should be for a maximum of four people regardless of how many babies get added into the mix (figure one mom, one dad and two kids, which is the national average).

The food stamp side of the program needs to be expanded to include certain necessities; soap, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper, dish soap, diapers and feminine hygiene products, even vouchers for fuel for a vehicle so they can look for work (as examples). The cash assistance portion needs to be stopped. If a person is provided with a place to live (public housing) with utilities paid, food, medical care, dental care, prescription drug coverage and the basic necessities for a year, they sure as hell should have time to get a job and begin to fend for themselves.

I have absolutely no problem helping people in need ... as long as they are willing to try to help themselves. When, however, you reach down to help people up, time after time, and rather than allowing themselves to be raised up they try to pull you down with them, it's pretty hard to take.

After working for over 45 years and seeing more and more of my pay go to people who take no responsibility for their own lives, I have to say, I have had enough. If those who consider welfare a career were booted the hell off of it there would be plenty of help to offer to those who need it for a short period of time so they can get their lives back on track after suddenly losing their job or falling on hard times.

Free birth control doesn't work if the women don't use it. Solution: Mandatory Depo shot BEFORE any assistance given. No shot, no welfare of any kind. If you don't want the govt telling you what to do, no problem. Don't get on welfare. Cap any kind of assistance at a level for 2 children. If a woman is on welfare, she is already proven to be unable to take care of the children she has and, therefore, does not need to have any more.

For the guys, failure to pay child support should be a crime per se because it is child abuse/neglect/endangerment. The more women with whom a man fathers a child, the more jail time. Next, the guys should not be lounging in jail with a/c and TV. 12 hour work days, 6 days a week digging ditches, cleaning up highway trash, etc. They obviously have had too much free time. All money "earned" should first go to paying their housing and food while in jail with the rest going into a state child support pool to be paid out accordingly. Finally, an "incentive" of maybe $2,500 would be paid to each guy who elects sterilization (and the same could go for the women). That would by far be cheaper than paying all the social costs associated with bringing another baby into this world who will no doubt be unwanted, neglected, abused, and unfortunately, many times killed.

Preventing conception is the optimum. I can think of nothing more horrible, devastating, and murderous to the soul than to be a child who goes through life knowing he is unloved, unwanted and doesn't matter to anyone.

There is no doubt that these types of people have no social responsibility, nor do they care to. They will not stop having sex. The only possible solution is to somehow keep them from bringing more children into the world who, from the moment of conception have no chance, and will only be born into a hopeless hell on earth which continues from generation to generation.

They have grown up to be pillars of their communities. Our entire, extended family is fairly well educated and employed. We've had our ups and downs (who hasn't?), but by-in-large, we continue to improve our circumstances.

The kids' father, last I heard, was on his sixth wife. (I was #2.) I'm not sure that the other women were/are aware of his background. I really don't care. He is not my responsibility. The women in this article may or may not have known that this serial impregnator had multiple children. I don't know. I do know that he is not alone in his escapades. Racial divide has very little to do with this issue. Culture does. In one of my granddaughter's high school classes, she is the only girl who is NOT pregnant. We live in a backwater place in Ohio, Caucasian is the majority population. Our culture has gotten away from planning for a constructive future. It leans more now toward instant gratification on any issue, this includes drugs and sex. Thus, we have several problems.

The solutions to all these problems will not be easy. However, we all must work at creating a mindset that looks toward a constructive, somewhat "planned" future, and which we can live with and support. All of us need to pull together on this. Color, ethnicity, culture shouldn't be dividing lines, they should be supportive foundations for future constructions. We need to teach our sons and daughters this to educate them as to why it will be better for them (and their future children) in the long run.

No. We need to look at the big picture here, and this microcosm can help us understand the impact to the whole.

Welfare. Social Security. Both are broken. Taking from the responsible and giving to the irresponsible is simply rewarding bad behavior and adding burden to those who are ambitious and follow the rules. Here's an idea, supported by self-reliance and ambition: INDIVIDUALIZE the Social Security system such that each person is responsible for his / her own SS account. People will study hard and work hard, and they will use the funds from their own SS account when they retire. IF they fall on hard times, they can then draw on their SS account (a form of self-welfare), and then they can replenish the account when they get back on their feet.

The same goes for immigration participants. Immigrants (legal, of course) will be given a CREDIT on their own SS account to the tune of $10,000 (pick a number) if they need help getting started in the USA (a form of their own welfare). They will eventually pay back this account and build a surplus for their own retirements.

It's a credit / debit system that functions both to support retirement (like Social Security), and help in hard times (like Welfare). It will encourage people to be self-reliant, independent, and ambitious. It will also not penalize people who stay out of trouble.

What about the unfortunate children that are brought into the world by parents who can not care for them? This is what orphan homes are for. You will get your kids back when you can be a responsible adult and pay for their food. YOU can choose sterilization if you want to.

Remove all of the other legislation. Get these cases out of the courts. WE are paying for the heavy burden of all of these laws and legal staff that are employed by such. Big government makes us poor.

I work with a guy like this. He has 11 kids with 5 mothers 2 of them are currently pregnant and he just turned 30. He doesn't pay child support at all he laughed after seeing how much I had deducted from my checks for my only child.

He has every single one of his women brainwashed they won't go after child support.

Although I understand where people are coming from, a lot I don't agree with and some that I agree with loosely on principle, here's the thing. Nobody committed a crime by having sex, or having unprotected sex or getting pregnant. The number of babies made or the number of the mothers involved have little to do with the case except that he repeatedly committed the same crime. The crime was a failure to pay support. That is what he needs to punished for, not his moral choices or stupidity.

If a "good white Christian" redneck made 9 babies with his wife and skips out refusing to pay child support, is the crime really any different? Maybe because he did it once vs. multiple times, but the end result is pretty similar.

I just don't see this ruling as being Constitutional. On the one hand, he probably needs to be in prison, but on the other, being in prison does nothing to support the kids. Judges get pretty creative sometimes with conditions of probation, but telling this guy he can't have sexual intercourse is a stretch and it's going to be hard to enforce. No doubt, the source cause of the problem starts with this guy making babies, but he isn't crossing the line to committing a criminal act by doing so. There is nothing mentioned about any plan to pay the child support, I would hope that is also a condition of probation. The issue is that a condition of probation that rules out some legal behavior is always questionable. In theory at least, if the guys agrees to the terms of the probation, I suppose it is legal, but it is still debatable.

Through history, there have been cases where forced sterilization was ordered. We don't allow that anymore. Now I suppose when you make it voluntary it's somewhat different. However, if for example, the choice given were sterilization or prison, I think that is still improper. To me, the only appropriate way to do this would be to define his payment plan and add the condition that should he fail to abide by that plan or repeat a case of evading child support again, (as in getting somebody pregnant and skipping), he goes to prison. Outside that probation agreement I would suggest that he doesn't repeat the behavior that got him into trouble. I would also offer some help from the court to keep him from repeating his crime again. Namely offer for the court to pay for a vasectomy. (Not force it or make it a condition of probation, but offer it as a help to keep him out of trouble.)

I have little doubt that this guy is not going to make a major case out of the ruling. For one thing, I'm sure he can't afford it. For another, my guess is that he's not going to abide by it. However, I don't think the court can "order it" and very likely, making it a condition of probabtion is flirting with Constitutional issues.

Understand, that I am not in any way supporting this guy's behavior. He's an irresponsible idiot. But the criminal act is about child support, not having sex or making babies. Consensual sex and making babies is not illegal and when we try to use the legal system to prevent that, we're violating the Constitution. If the legislature passed a law to such effect, it would definitely be declared Unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and justifiably so.

Many states give out free or low-cost birth control pills as well as free voluntary sterilization, find out about your state and pass the word along! So, you cannot make the statement or assumption that everyone easily has access to them. That is why free birth control, information on how to use it, and the consequences of sexual activity (you may think everyone understands how it works, but you would be amazed what some people do not know) needs to be universally available. Another thing to think about: some people here are saying that the women should have known better after he had kids with another woman. What if they didn't know he had kids or he made up a lie?

I remember a number of years ago on a radio station, they had the 'war of the roses'; the radio show would help women find out if their man was cheating on them. The dj would pretend to be from a florist delivery service, call the man and tell him he won a free bouquet of roses that can be delivered to anyone. Those of you who think that going on welfare is a choice that people make to make ends meet, its not. It's what people who have/see no other way out (for whatever reason) do. The reality in WA state is this, the mother of one child gets 453.00 and 100.00 per month for each child she has after that. I do not know about you but I could not raise a child on that, or the "extra" 100.00 per month. I would need to have 12 children to pay my rent and utilities for my 2 bedroom apartment in a not so good side of town and then cloth them if anything is left over. And the waiting list for subsidized housing is 2 years. Washington is one of the more liberal states and having childrten to "get" welfare is NOT viable here.

What I object to is the very notion that the society in general, and government in particular, should have any say in how many children people choose to have. I say limit govt assistance with no added assistance for children born to women currently recieving assistance providing free IUD's, tubals, or DEPO for women in order to continue to recieve funds as well as a requirement that they either be enrolled in school or have some type of job (think of all the govt jobs such as custodians, secretaries, and clerks that could be held by these women and they could get a small salary plus their food stamps and welfare). I've got no problem with taking care of the kids (not their fault and they deserve a chance), but we DEFINITELY need to stop making it profitable, and stop adding to the problem with more and more children that the parents don't have the resources to take care of. He's got nothing because it is true. I've been behind these clowns at the grocery store. A tactic I have recently experienced is that they will use this money to buy $hitloads of soda...eventually cash in the aluminum and use that money to buy smokes and whatever else they can't get with those damn things. Some of these people literally brag about how they get around the system....not all. Lord knows their are people out there that need our help, but there is a huge amount of abuse as well. The people should have to submit mothly financial reports or be tracked in some way for this reason. There is ridiculous abuse of our compasion

Troy that scam wouldn't work well. Spend 50 cents to a dollar per can for a 5 cent deposit? That's like getting less than 10% back in cash.

I have heard about them trading food for cash/other items though, directly. So maybe they buy pop to trade for money. With the pop still inside.

So I guess everyone is now in favor of regulating what happens in the bedroom. If the dude cannot pay for the children he is legally responsible for he should go to jail. Other than that forced sterilization is not the way to go. We are not China or anywhere else who would do those things. Freedom to procreate is already a freedom, get it.
