Middlesex District Attorney's Officer
John Burbine, 49, of Wakefield, Mass., is accused of sexually abusing more than a dozen young children.
A Massachusetts man raped and sexually abused more than a dozen young children in their homes and videotaped the assaults, a prosecutor said Thursday.
The purported victims were as young as 8 days old, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said.
“This is among the most troubling and disturbing cases of child abuse ever prosecuted in Middlesex County,” Leone said in a statement.
John Burbine, 49, of Wakefield, was indicted Thursday by a Middlesex grand jury on more than 100 counts of child sex offenses. He gained access to many of the children through a child care service operated by his wife, Leone said at a news conference Thursday.
According to authorities, Burbine and his wife advertised child care and tutoring services on various websites including parenting websites and coupon service websites. They also transported children to another family’s home for day care and ran a summer activities program in which they took children to various places, prosecutors said.
Burbine raped and sexually assaulted at least 13 infants and young boys and girls who were in his care from August 2010 through August 2012, according to the indictment. Many of the children were abused multiple times over several months or years, the charges allege.
The victims ranged in age from 8 days to 3½ years old and are from Stoneham, Medford, Newton, Reading, Melrose, Woburn and Waltham, prosecutors said.
Investigators said they found images and videos on Burbine’s home computer of the victims “posed in various states of nudity and engaged in sexual acts” “It is alleged the defendant videotape recorded the assaults on the victims,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“He committed these unspeakable crimes in the victims’ homes and communities. Further, the defendant filmed the repeated, unthinkable abuse,” Leone said. “The defendant gained access and opportunity to abuse young children through advertising child care services with his wife, who operated a tutoring and child care business, which was not licensed. Children are our most vulnerable victims and we will continue to prosecute to the fullest extent those who harm or exploit them.”

Burbine’s wife, Marian Burbine, 46, of Wakefield, has been indicted on charges of reckless endangerment of a child and operating an unlicensed day care business. Prosecutors said she was not present during the alleged rapes and did not know about them. She is free on bail, with conditions that she wear a monitoring bracelet, stay in her home from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., and have no contact with alleged victims, clients, former emloyees, and any children under 16.
John Burbine was originally arrested Sept. 28 in Reading by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office after an investigation into allegations of unlicensed child care at Waterfall Education Center, the business run by his wife, purportedly uncovered evidence of a sexual assault on a child.
Leone said his office obtained a court order shutting the business down while the criminal investigation continued. Following John Burbine’s arrest, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said it discovered more victims as well as video evidence allegedly showing the assaults on the victims, leading to the indictment Thursday.
Burbine will be arraigned Dec. 12 in Middlesex Superior Court.

You can't really give me a reason we can't end this with a bullet and be done with it. I'm seldom a fan of violence, and nearly always oppose the death penalty, but when were talking the rape of an eight day old I can make exceptions.

I do not like the death penalty, but like many of the other posters here, I could make an exception in this case. I know that baseball bats have other good uses, this could be one of them.
Also, I see many posters here think putting him the general population in prison is a way of dealing with him. Remember that he would only be in a population of like minded people and justice is not really served.

I too am not a proponent of the death penalty, but this guy is such a disgusting drain on society and can never be allowed to walk among us in public anyway, I say hang 'im.

For someone such as this, calls for a quick bullet to the head would be expected. I, however, would commit this individual to an existence of solitary confinement, the kind where he has zero contact with anyone and never hears so much as a human word, for the rest of his life. Confinement would be such that he never sees day or night or the passing of the seasons, simply a constant light in his very small cell.
I would eventually like to hear of his passing by his own hand due to the years of overwhelming solitude. I can't imagine a punishment more cruel that this, probably unconstitutional.

Cut out his tongue so he can't speak, gouge his eyes out so he can't see, cut off his feet so he can't walk, cut off a hand and leave one so he can at least feet himself. While I really can't think of any words to adequately describe what a rotten, perverted and twisted piece of garbage I think this guy is; to put him to death is still nothing less than legalized murder. Shouldn't we as a society at least TRY to be better people than the criminals? After he is convicted, (he videotaped his crimes)he needs to be locked up for the rest of his life (in solitary confinement) and NEVER be allowed back into society. You may think that's too humane, but try to imagine sitting for the next thirty years, in a prison cell, all alone and no chance at ever being free again ....
The problem with life in prison is that us tax payers will be supporting him just like we do for Manson. I personally don't want to do that. He should be put to death by public execution for all the perverts to see that this is unacceptable behavior and society will not put up with it! And by public, I don't mean lethal injection or a bullet to the head. Maybe he should be stoned to death by the parents and families of those poor little victims.

if this was my daughter or son he would be safer in prison....with 9 brothers and sisters and i have 6 kids and 14 grand kids.....he wouldnt make it to prison...never...yes im a fan of the death penalty!!!!! but id wanna do it

There are some people that just need to go. I would say the video is enough to prove everything beyond any doubt. Send him on the express lane to disposal, the proper thing to do with trash.

I was thinking the same. I know people can lead a secret life, even from a spouse, but she was responsible for these children. She must have wondered at some point why he was so enthusiastic about being alone with them. I hate to sound gender biased and there are many men who love kids, but I would be very concerned about a guy who seems to want to be alone with someone else's child.
There had to have been physical signs of the abuse that the wife could not ignore, how could you rape children that young without tearing and causing bleeding. She had to of known what he was doing...

jkatze you are right he does deserve his day in court, but the parents of those victims have to sit in that court too and be subject to the testimony of what this animal did. Yeah give him his day in court, but keep it short and then throw him in Gen Pop since Mass has no death penalty.
In fact, I am of the mindset to go up there and put a bullet in his head myself just to save those parents the trauma of a trial. I don't even own a gun, but if I could spare those people the pain of a trial I would!
While it would be nice if we had a justice system that would allow us to simply view the video evidence and immediately sentence him to death, I think we all know that any death sentence in this country automatically results in 10 to 20 years of appeals.
I actually feel that it would be more just to simply place him the the general prison population with zero protection. They would certainly apply more appropriate "justice" than our legal system is capable of in a situation like this.

People like this can never be rehabilitated. I doubt that his wife didn't know what was going on, as there are too many signs and symptoms to ignore when children are in the presence of an abuser like this. It's unthinkable what these children went through, and the fact that he will be sleeping in a warm bed and served three meals a day at taxpayers' costs is an abhorrent injustice to those souls he has so harmfully destroyed.
He needs to die. There are no two ways about it. These are babies we are talking about, the tiniest of infants, barely a week old. He needs to die.

As a parent to a one year old myself, I think the only real justice that can be done here would be letting the parents deal their own justice out. If my child was anywhere near this sicko, I would be waiting for a chance to get at him. Wether that be waiting 20 years for him to make parole or waiting with a sniper rifle outside a court room. I would be "temporarily insane" when I killed him too.

8 days to 3 1/2 weeks - seriously, how sick is that? How? Why? We know he wasn't thinking. He deserves the death penalty, to be carried out as soon as possible. No trial needed, no appeal.

This is horrible. I wonder how he came into contact with an 8 day old baby? All the babies are sad, but I am wondering if this youngest one was a relative. Most mothers of newborns aren't out and about that quick, I mean there is nothing that would come up where you would leave a newborn with anyone but family members. I am rambling here, but this just is unthinkable. And yeah, he needs to die.

It was not this guys first problem with sexual assaults on children. In 1989 he was convicted of assaulting a child, and was under a DCF probe for a couple of other assaults on a 5 and 7 year old. There is no way this wife could not have known, even if they were not married during that time. And why wasn't anyone tracking this guy? Who knows how many kids he has harmed? And mothers, please run a check on who you leave your kids with. How could a child be assaulted multiple times over a period of months and even years, and not give the parents some kind of bad feeling?

That's the freaking problem with our ass backwards so called legal system, they really just don't seem to care when it comes to our children. :( I truly think it's going to take a huge stand by the American citizens to wake them up and who knows if that will even work, but something must be done to STOP THE MADNESS!!!
Its real easy to find out if someone is a registered sex offender. All I have to do is type in my location and the computer at the sheriff's office will show me who is in my neighborhood. I don't know if they registered in 1989, if you have to register after the law was passed, but parents have got to be careful. And the wife knew he had this conviction against a child, what was she thinking about?
And you're right, his wife knows. The cops know she does, thats why shes wearing the ankle monitor at night and can't be aroud kids. I thiks shes just not locked up so they can gather more evidence on her/him? ;)
I don't have kids at home, but I have 4 grandkids 7-12. I check at least once a month in my area as well as theirs. Their parents check too...can't be too careful!
I just hope they are both locked up for good. I know we aren't going to get the death penalty for him, as much as we would like to. Just put them in a tiny cell, forget to feed them and let nature take its course.
Back in 1989 there wasn't a registered sex offenders list. Looking this creep up wouldn't have produced any results. He flew under the radar for years until he got caught. I can't even imagine the number of victims that this man has abused. Too sick for words!
It really makes me sick when these things happen. A few years ago a man named Terry Shields was found guilty of rape and abusing kids. He was a school bus driver and won the confidence of the parents. He was at a pc mall and was seen looking at porn. Then he was seen looking at kiddie porn. The kids who worked there got the sheriffs and he was arrested. He is in prison now. But when you look him up, you will find that he had history of these crimes in previous years but was not found guilty. So for years he had access to kids and no one paid attention. Fortunately, he was caught, and when his home and computer were searched, he had so much evidence of his crimes, that there was no chance of him being free ever again. SO - we taxpayers are supporting him while he lives in prison. And here we are again - probably gonna get stuck supporting this person while he is in prison.

for those who want to see justie aloow it to work if he is found guilty then he will be sentenced his first two years he will be in isilation because the other inmates will get him soon after he will be put into general population and thats when it will happen he will live in fear every day
