Eight men were being questioned and at least seven dogs were rescued after Dolton, Ill., police and Cook County Sheriff’s Police officers broke up a what was described as a major dog fighting operation Wednesday night.
"This was going to be much more extensive," said Sheriff Tom Dart. "There were cars from out of state there. So this was a large operation that was going to go on that night."
Two men were arrested immediately, as police raided a former auto repair garage in the shadow of the Bishop Ford Freeway. But a search of the building revealed more suspects, hiding in the building’s rafters.

"We found six more people, one of whom has a warrant out for an attempted murder case," Dart said.
The sheriff said it appeared some of the dogs had already fought by the time officers arrived. One had severe bite marks and a wounded eye which medical personnel said may have to be removed.
The fighting ring itself was splattered with blood, as were the walls of the garage. A worn out vending machine in a corner contained narcotics investigators believe were used to sedate the dogs so they could continue fighting.
Dart said it was unclear whether the dirty garage had been the site of previous fights.
"The walls inside the facility are covered in blood," he said. "It’s hard to tell if it’s new or not."
Investigators said when they arrived, the sound of the fighting echoed through the parking lot.
"You could hear the yelling and the barking," Dart said. "You could hear them cheering on their dogs, and you could hear the dogs fighting."
One of those questioned had recently been released from jail after being charged with dog fighting, an officer said. Another had an outstanding warrant on an attempted murder charge.
Dog fighting exists in a shadowy world which is often difficult to detect. The fights are often advertised word-of-mouth or in online advertisements which are closely held. For that reason, Dart said his investigators were lucky to have raided the building when they did.
"They move these fights around a ton," he said. "We’ve had numerous ones where we show up at a location, and it had been moved hours before."
Members of the South Suburban Humane Society took the dogs.

Why not sedate these sick dog fighting promoters and make them fight until they are bloodied or dead? Maybe they could be put in the ring with vicious dogs.
I don't think the "humans" should be sedated before making them fight to the death. Let them feel every bit of pain and suffering that they think is "normal" to inflict on other beings just because these beings cannot speak. Dog fighting will continue because of cruel, stupid people and laws that do not protect animals in any way. It is too sad.

This made me cry. What the hell is wrong with people that get pleasure out this. This is sick and disgusting. Someone that gets pleasure out of seeing any living being suffer like this is certainly an evil person, and should never be allowed of jail. If they can do this to an animal just think about a child, women or any defenseless being what would they do. I pray that they (the perpetrators) never see the light of day.
African American Subculture highlighted by Mike Vick's past endeavors in evil are still prevalent, strong and heartily endorsed by the likes of Whoppi Goldberg playing "it's part of the culture....you, know a cultural thing its not something for everyone but is accepted in some cultures" (paraphrasing). Well, its not accepted in this culture anymore than flying a plane into a building. So maybe its time to start stripping citizenship from miscreants dog fighters, terrorist, mysongnists, etc...and send them packing back to West Africa or Middle East.

Federal law should be made and automatic castration for perpetrators and 10 years in jail for people who watch. Enforce the law two or three times and watch the "sport" dry up. Laws with teeth need to be enforced. I am sure there will be many, many applicants for the job of enforcers. Will also lower the unemployment rate. Too bloodthirsty? I think not. I do not think driving them into the underground is working. Catching and neutering will work real fast.

Illinois, go figure. Tell ya what, open that door and shoot every SOB standing there cheering. Period. As a dog lover, a tax payer and law abiding citizen... I say rid the world of that trash and do your best to give those dogs a good life. Man, sometimes, what I wouldn't give to have a free pass for a day.
Hey lazstrall, I promise I won't tell if you ever want to get go vigilante on people like this. :) This may be online where everybody is big talk, but there is absolutely one thing for certain and that is if I am ever witness to seeing or hearing about animal abuse by someone, I WILL stop it, by whatever means that takes..by force, by monetary means, by contacting law enforcement, whatever. I'm an extremely nice, quiet, polite, law abiding, keep to myself and mind my own business kind of person, but when it comes to people who hurt defenseless animals, I will never ever stand by and watch or ignore it. A rage like no other comes over me when I see or read stories like this one and it makes me wish there were just people out there that could fly under the radar and make people like this have "unfortunate accidents". I'd donate to THAT cause with my very last dollar.

It would be nice if the authorities would post mug shots of these Bastards on the web so that Equalizers might be able to get a shot in on them at a later date...It's a shame that Judges are restrained in their sentencing scenarios where these crimes are committed..
So many vicious people! America seems to enjoy violence for entertainment on TV and movies. Why? The violence our entertainment sends out to all of us and our kids is really getting awful - more and more explicit! Most of us relate to the "good guys" getting the psychos. But, the psychos use it to find a new way to harm others. Great way for the psychos to get ideas! The psychos want to live the violence!
Harming dogs in this way is as sick as anything else. How anyone becomes so sick to enjoy harming innocent creatures - humans or animals - is beyond most of us! These people are non-human. They do not have normal consciences or feelings and should not be allowed to live in our society. They need to be put away forever!
