The SUV crashed into The Jewelers on Thursday, Dec. 6, in Lebanon, Tenn.
A Tennessee man credited his newly adopted puppy with saving his life after an SUV smashed into his jewelry store this week.
Police said a 66-year-old man had a coughing fit and hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal Thursday morning, sending his Ford Expedition speeding into the front of The Jewelers on West Main Street in Lebanon, Tenn. No one was seriously hurt, but the owner, Shawn Smith estimated that the crash caused tens of thousands of dollars of damage.
A witness, Tara Duncan of Lebanon, told The Wilson Post that the SUV flew right by her as she was entering her car to leave a store next door to The Jewelers.
"The vehicle never stopped," she said.
Smith told NBC station WSMV of Nashville that just beforehand, he'd been standing near where the SUV made its dramatic entrance.
"I adopted a puppy this morning," Smith said, but it began barking, so he decided to take it home. "It was literally just two minutes before.
"My puppy saved my life," he said.

Police ruled the incident an accident and said no charges would be filed.

Man also left to use the bathroom, BM saved man as well. Not as cute as puppy though.

The story doesn't say what the puppy's name was, but Mr. Smith's nickname should be "Lucky" from now on!
Thats why the puppy started barking, it is a seeing future puppy, Sorry, couldn't resist since no one was hurt.

Who knows? What's wrong with giving the puppy some credit and everyone thinking happy thoughts about the puppy? There is so little good news nowadays and anything that makes animals look good is fine with me!
Maybe the puppy was psychic and used mind control to get the guy to leave early. Otherwise, he might have been hurt. Seriously, maybe the dog heard the driver coughing and sensed trouble coming. Their sense of hearing is quite remarkable. Better than the guy's sense of driving...
Time to rethink your moniker. People like to associate events with unrelated ones.
Cute story, but I wish they included a pic of the pup.
When hitting the brake (?) fails to slow your progress, when hitting it harder is causing you to speed up, when you are about to hit people or a building. At what point should you be expected to realize you are not hitting the brake?
His foot probably involuntarily depressed the pedal further, as a coughing fit can seriously throw off your coordination.

Maybe that puppy's a little guardian angel.
The puppy pissed off the wrong people from a deal gone bad, and knew someone was coming to take it out, the puppy knew this, and urged to owner to take it home... one smart puppy
The next time anyone hits anything, a coughing fit will be their defense.
Chris Brown should have thought up that excuse.
This has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Here's another couple potential stories:
I had to go take a smoke break. That cigarette saved my life.
I walked out back to call my bookie. Betting saved my life.
I went outside to check on the weather. A cumulonimbus cloud formation that looked like Rutherford B. Hayes saved my life.
Now I know why dogs grow up to chase cars... They are trying to run over their owners when they are pups.
