Authorities say Hector Celaya, 31, was fatally wounded in a shootout with detectives.
A man shot four people dead, including a child, on a Central California Indian reservation and wounded two other children before being killed in a shootout with detectives after a car chase, authorities said.
The violence started Saturday night on the Tule River Indian Reservation in Porterville, Calif., the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responding to a 911 call found a man and a woman shot inside a trailer and a male juvenile suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Irene Celaya, 60, and Francisco Moreno, 61, were confirmed dead. Six-year-old Andrew Celaya was transported to a hospital.
At a shed on the same property, deputies found the body of another man, Bernard Franco (AKA Moreno), 53, who died of an apparent gunshot wound.
The person who called police said the suspect fled the scene in a green Jeep Cherokee.
Authorities identified the suspect as Hector Celaya, 31, and said he had taken his two daughters, 8-year-old Alyssa Celaya and 5-year-old Linea Celaya. Deputies said the suspect had allegedly shot the children.
A deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle and tried to stop it but the driver kept going, the sheriff’s office said. Linea received non-life threatening injuries. Alyssa died from her gunshot wounds.
The suspect eventually stopped on the side of a road and a shootout ensued, authorities said. The suspect was shot and was transported to the hospital. He later died, the sheriff’s office said.
All victims were related to the suspect and members of the Tule Indian Reservation. No further details were released.
The sheriff’s office did not say what may have precipitated the shootings.

Maybe someone should look into the marketing strategy of the NRA. Aren't they the ones who have promoted the ubiquitous existence of handguns for the last few decades?

Being a Native myself , i do not condone what this guy has done. But I do have to say I am curious why he would take his daughters and then shoot them. It says he got in a shootout with the cops while the vehicle was at the side of the road. It smells of police cover up , could the kids have been shot in the cross fire. I am just saying it does not make sense. I have seenhow small town law enforcement treats Native's.

Wow! Hooray! Right on schedule (almost); America's traditional biweekly mass shooting, and just in time for our holiday enjoyment. I want to extend a special big holiday thank you to the NRA for their relentless pursuit of maximum firepower for everybody. Without the tireless efforts of the NRA we would probably not have this traditional entertainment event.
When people get ANGRY they have a tendancy to lash out. That is why the old adage is true --count to ten Anger is the cause of many gun crimes, mostly in a relationship gone bad. It could easily have been a ax.

Though I think you're hyperventilating hyperbole for no reason; I do agree there are other issues that we should continue to find solutions to to help reduce senseless bloodshed.

Most people would not like these types of events to occur. With our second amendment, we can't put reasonable controls on the access to these, the most convenient methods of killing.. guns. Many Americans interpret the 2nd as a well regulated citizen militia, that protects America from enemies, foreign or domestic. However, we have extended that amendment to allow some angry individuals to launch on killing sprees. Use common sense, people! This guy was NOT a part of a "well regulated militia"! (That I know of.)
Crime is up, taxes are going up, economy is headed in the toilet which will lead to unemployment well above 10%, stock market will take a dive, and violent crime is just starting!!!! What could be better??

chances are,law enforcement shot the kids by accident in the shootout. The shooter would not inflict life threatening injuries to one and less serious to the other.

Its interesting that they had a shootout on the side of the road with this guy and NO police bullets hit the kids. I seriously think this guy wanted his kids and I do not think his bullets hit these kids. I think the cops did.

So with my money in the Caymans and my residence here, I don't have to pay any US taxes. The cost of living is high because the real estate is high. But, my home is an investment and as more and more 1%ers head out of the country ... my home value will appreciate. So ... not only am I paying no taxes ... I am making money on an investment here. 40,000 car deaths, the price we pay for the convenience of not having to take the horse. 25,000 gun deaths, the price we pay to be a free people. It said the county sheriff which has no juristriction on an Indian res. they have their own police and Fed's are only allowed on an Indian res.,It's Federal land and Federal juristriction applie's there. Any police agency that wants to come on any res. has to ask permission from the Indian police and they will escourt them on and off the res.
If the killer is indeed Hispanic and not Native American, he will have to be turned over to the Feds... if I understand things correctly.
That's part of the problem with the high crime rate on the reservations. Non-Natives can assault and rape the women, do any type of crime, and know the Indians can't try them for it. And by the time they are brought to trial in the white man's courts, the crimes are plea bargained down to misdemeanors and they walk away with paltry fines.
Reservations are ideal hunting grounds for predators such as pedophiles, rapists and women and child abusers.
And if he's an illegal Hispanic.... hell, illegals can commit all kinds of crimes here in the US and get little more than a free ride back to Mexico.
