A man is dead after he and a woman were found bound and gagged in the middle of a street in San Francisco's Bayview District Sunday night.
A motorist driving on Brussels Street saw the two people lying on the road and called the police around 8:30 p.m., San Francisco officer Albie Esparza told NBC News.
Both were found bound and gagged. The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was unconscious. The woman, also believed to be in her early 20s, was "out of it," Esparza said. The pair were taken to the hospital, where the man died and the woman remains in critical condition.
Police are awaiting a medical examiner's report to determine what caused the trauma on the male victim. Esparza said it could have been a gunshot wound or trauma caused by blunt force.
"No one saw or heard anything," Esparza said, adding that investigators are still trying to determine if the two victims had been attacked elsewhere and dumped on Brussels Street. Police are hoping the female victim will be able to speak with them soon.
Esparza said the neighborhood the two were found in is "pretty quiet."
"It's just your typical working-class neighborhood," he said, adding that investigators are canvassing the area to see if any of the homes had video surveillance and are asking the community to come forward with information.

Had the couple been found on Geary St. nobody would have thought anything about it and some of the bar patrons may have even joined in.
When I seen the headline "two people found bound and gagged in San Francisco" I thought so what is out of the ordinary it is San Francisco it happens all the time there.
I'm right there with the two of you. I love San Francisco, it's the only town I've been in where you don't need a TV, you can just watch the street life and it's just as entertaining.
In SF this is called foreplay.
Male & Female found gaged...must be that "anti-straight" hate group!
The evil that human beings are capable of is astounding.
I also thought it was normal in SF.
wow, that's sad. sounds like either a couple 'napped and robbed after leaving a club, or perhaps a deal gone bad and they took it out on them. just some quick guesses, I realize it could be anything! hope she pulls through.
Which drug dealer did they annoy? Or who wanted whatever info or dope money they may have had?
Must have voted for Romney.
Seriously??? Gloat much? You must have heard of sore losers but how about a Shi^^y winner?
dude shut the fu<k up, Seriously!
No way could they have voted for Romney! Had they voted for Romney they would have been packing and be alive today!
Guest you are so stupid! Had they voted for Romeny they would have been packing and probably be alive today! I can't believe that people live/work in some of these inner-city areas and don't pack to fend off Obama drug zombies!
Wow, way to be a cockwaffle.
"Obama drug zombies?" I "pack" (carry) to defend myself from right wing nut jobs....
This guy died and people make jokes. Amazing!
That's kind of how things work in public forums...
What do you expect from Obama voters?
Very San Francisco.
Suprised they wern't nude and bleeding from the rectum.
Really? That is what came to your creepy little mind?
You sound as if you wish it had been you in that scenario. You also sound like an expert in bleeding rectums.
No Roamy, everybody that read the story was expecting that!!! Where you been. You can roam around San Fran Naked, at least that's what was being thrown around on here last week. Remember standing there with there signs in the office of the mayor and on the streets, with their ... hanging out. That's good ol' San Francisco!!
I have been all over San Francisco. Yup. You see some strange stuff. Also in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and New Orleans. What this article is about...not the norm in any of them.
Wow, people freak out that within the entire 3,794,000 sq miles of this country that we call America, there is actually one city where people can go to have fun. That's good ol' God-fearing, theocratic, boring, backwards, anti-intellectual, science-hating, ignorant America for you.
exasperated737. stupid pointless post. love all the labels. substitute for real thought. lack a vocabulary ? why don't you qualify for "ignorant" label. how are you "intellectual"?
Uh...what's fun about being gagged and bound and left in the streets? (Yes I know that's not what you were referring to, but if you think running around drunken, naked, and without ethics or morals is fun...then please, start your own country and take all your friends with you.)
I am God-fearing...and I am not theocratic, boring, backward, anti-intellectual, science hating, or ignorant. Frankly I grow weary of having to watch EVERYTHING I say...while a dozen other groups quash my rights in the name of not stepping on theirs.
sick bastard...
Welcome to the Sanctuary....
can't be a gunshot wound - California has those strict gun laws -
Wow. What wit.
There are more guns sold in California than any other state.
There are more states sold in guns than any other California.
Sounds like a Union job!
"Esparza said it could have been a gunshot wound or trauma caused by blunt force"
Are police not trained to tell the difference between a gunshot and blunt forces. So is there a hole or not?
Did they check their stomachs for thai-korean-swiss-mexican fusion small plates? Did the woman have kanji tattoo'd on the small of her back?
Did that make any sense, even to you?
Just another sign as to how messed up some people are in this country.
Has California banned "bound and gagged?" How about blunt force trauma?
Best hopes for the young woman's recovery.
I was born in CA. So glad we moved when I was 4
They are no doubt glad you moved, too.
Because there is no crime in any other state? Do share with us this "crime free" location.
I was born and raised in California- left in my 20's. It was a wonderful place to grow up with beach and mountains and desert as well. I have family in the Bay Area and always enjoy my visits.
People always jump on the "crappy place to live" bandwagon- the truth is people pay outrageous amounts of money to live in the San Fran area.
I was born in Santa Monica. I got to Texas as fast as I could. (Ok, ok, my dad got transferred here). I still love to visit Cali (Yosemite - most beautiful place on earth) but I'd never want to live there again. And not because of this. It's too expensive, to looney liberal, and I'd have to sell all my machine guns.
Well, that explains why it seems from where I sit, that you're still in Texas.
My condolences to the dead man's family; and best wishes for the woman's physical and emotional recoveries, as much as they are possible. I hope that the perpetrators are found, and brought to justice.
Ironic Dave- I too was born in Santa Monica (ST John's hospital) and even moved to Texas in 06- left in 2010.
Most of my family is in Palm Desert and you are correct about the cost of living there- crazy high. But to defend it- the home I purchased in Texas-which we now rent out because we are so upside down on it that we need to hold on to it for a couple more years- is a thorn in my side. We lovingly call it the "Texas money pit".
I met some very narrow minded conservatives (good ol Boys) in Texas- and Texans can be just as odd- the difference after living in both places- In and Out Burger kicks the crap out of What a Burger ; )
Must have been some of those Hard Working Illegals, or some of those peace loving pot smokers, or because California will let anyone in, there is not tell what kind of scum did this.
Just an avg day in SF isn't it?
This is a vague and tragic story. Thoughts and prayers for the victims' families.
This is pretty messed up. There is so very little to go on in terms of information that it seems stupid to even speculate what might have happened to cause this.
Hope the woman recovers.
SSDD
watch out..the mexicans are here...
Wow, they're committing crimes using their type of foreplay now. Hopefully the woman recovers and can give a description of the assailant/s. And for crying out loud, the cops can't tell whether a wound is caused by a gunshot or blunt force trauma...sheesh. And with looming budget cuts due to an impending bankruptcy for the state and city of SF, this is going to get worse. The people in SF need to stop packing meat and start packing heat.
Police aren't forensic experts nor are they coroners. A severe beating can cover the evidence of a gunshot. A beating with a pointed object could cause injuries similar to gunshots. If they were dumped from a moving vehicle the cause of death could be covered by the resulting damage.
Some people carry their sex games too far.
And just where was that shriveled vampire pelosi that night? Does she have an alibi?
And just where was that shriveled vampire pelosi.....
Haha....Nice.
George weezie, Pelosi, was over at Dracula John Boehner.s house, watching him drinking, the blood of American's 47%. You know the ones' Mitt Romney deemed expendable and unnecessary... If you are not wealthy, you too are in the 47%....
How could something like this have happened in San Francisco??? The city of love??? Thank the democrats that you keep relecting!
Come on Sara, I'm a Republican and even I don't blame the democrats for this crime.
Sorry but I have to call you on this if I become angry with "limited bandwidth" minds for blaming a recent crime on a conservative state.
Rise above the mentality.
They tried a Republican governor and look what hapened. Let's all admit that politicians in general are mostly bloviating pond scum and leave it at that.
How do you know a politician is lying? They are still breathing....
