Rape victims are often mentally and emotionally dead afterward anyway, and usually end up losing the relationship with family members and S.O.s because you no longer have the ability to emotionally bond with people any longer. They lose themselves and their lives, which is why so many rape victims commit suicide, sadly.

The rapist pleads "not guilty." How utterly stupid, but then he's stupid to begin with. He was identified, the gun was found in his car along with the victim's stolen goods (including a pair of underwear) and undoubtedly DNA testing was done, so it's an open and shut case. He's guilty. By pleading not guilty, he will only lengthen his punishment (but then that's good). Does he really think there's a miniscule chance he'll be found innocent? He's got better odds winning the power ball or being hit by lightning.

Its all in their Genetics, their DNA made them do it. They were born that way.. How many times have i heard these lines about so many other people who cant help the way they are.. I dont find the death penalty the answer for any crime. I agree with you that it does leave emotional and physical scars, but a big part of the recovery is learning to forgive your attacker, even if they dont ask for forgiveness. Its a poison that you carry with you and it follows you into every relationship with anyone . YOu can look up many articles on learning how to forgive. No one said you need to forget, or condone what happened, its about forgiveness. Here is a link.

The answer is simple, we are bleeding hearting ourselves to death. Failure to impose appropriate penalties on perps for pretty much any crime is leading our country down a path of social dysfunction.

The worst part is that 7 years later, when a sentence is finally handed down, the victim is more like, just get it over with. The punishment of trial is as bad for the victim as the crime was.

Also, IMHO, deterrent punishment are only a deterrent if it is carried out publicly and rapidly.

But life experience is not to be trivialized, and MY life experience is that I have observed, too many times to be ignored, that people arrested in rape/child sexual abuse cases were WAY more often than not, people who had previously been arrested and/or incarcerated for similar crimes in the past.
