Subscribe to RSSA husband and wife were arrested on charges related to practicing medicine without a license after a botched buttocks-enhancing procedure on a female patient, Hialeah Police said.
Pedro Hernandez, 57, and Samela Hernandez, 53, were arrested Tuesday at their home at 3143 W. 70th St. in Hialeah, according to police. They said they found a large amount of medical equipment, supplies and medicines indicative of "an illegal medical practice" during their search.
“We had received a complaint from a victim, (a) patient, who said she had received medical treatment at this location, and she said the procedure was botched and she had to go to Colombia and get a surgeon to repair it,” police spokesman Carl Zogby said.
Police said the couple does not have a medical license, but was offering butt-enhancement procedures at their home. Detectives claim that Samela Hernandez had the substance bottled in Colombia as massage wax and shipped to her.
Three victims have come forward, police said, but they said they believe that many more are out there.
No one answered the door Thursday at the couple’s residence. Neighbors said they were shocked to learn what allegedly happened inside the home.
“They've always been very quiet, very nice people, but I had no idea nothing was happening in that house,” Diego del Rio said.
The story comes on the heels of the unrelated arrest of Oneal Morris, a transgender woman who is accused of injecting toxic concoctions which included Fix-a-Flat into people and causing at least one death.
In the Hialeah case, police said they found an entire makeshift clinic inside the home that was stocked with syringes, medical equipment and over 200 blank prescriptions.

Pedro Hernandez faces numerous charges including one count of unlicensed practice of the health care profession causing serious injury, two counts each of practicing medicine without a license and attempting to obtain a contaminated substance by fraud, and 201 counts of possession of blank prescription forms, according to an arrest affidavit.
Samela Hernandez faces the same charges, according to her affidavit. It was not immediately known whether she or her husband have an attorney.
Police said they consider anyone who has been treated by the defendants to be a victim, and urged such patients to call them at 305-687-2525.

Why anyone would allow someone that looked like Morris to even stand next to them in a grocery line let alone inject them is beyond comprehension.

People need to take some responsibility to check out those they seek to have any medical care from. These are not the old fashion days when snake oil doctors peddled their wares and people had no way of knowing what they were getting, nor if that person was legitimate because there wasn't any way of checking them out. A simple phone call is all it takes. So does some common sense. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
These patients expect to get the amazing results they see celebrities have and others who have paid tens of thousands of dollars for, by only paying hundreds or a few thousands. Do they really think the "doctor" working in his home with the old assistant in a small back room with faded paint, old furniture, dusty curtains and stained floor, is going to do miracles on their bodies? I guess so. Because there's a sucker born every minute.Then again, some of these people can have mental disorders, about their bodies. So home businesses can prove dangerous places for such people.
Actually, the root of the problem, is our whole culture which promotes the idea that there is something wrong with our bodies to begin with. Especially for women. The pressure starts practically at birth with the childrens stories of princesses with prefect bodies,faces and happy lives pitted against ugly, fat, miserably and nasty characters always trying to do them in. Then it is the lavish life styles and promise of fame, sex and fortune those perfect bodies always seem to have in advertising and movies. Who can blame a person for being willing to take these risks.
We must change our approach and let our children and others know they are wonderful just as they are, as individuals. It's the only way to stop this ugly, vicious cycle and stop those who are looking to make a buck off others desperate to look better.
The story points out one victim who appears to be Hispanic. The perps appear to be Hispanic. We are dealing with a different culture. There was a Hispanic man in our area who ran a dental clinic in his home and his practice consisted of other Hispanics. He did not have a dental license. People from other cultures may not always have the education to seek out medical procedures from properly licensced practitioners. In our area we also have many Korean people. They always prefer to do business with other Koreans. Nothing wrong with that. But as for medical practitioners, they need to meet the criteria of our standards.

Talking about "Fix-a-flat".........ONLY if the TIRE....of my SUV......GOES FLAT. If I wanted "BIG POMPIES"...I would exercise my legs, do some running, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, get enough sleep, and "be happy" with what the LORD.......gave me.

Actually, that cannot happen, even with Obama Care. She was seeking a Cosmetic Surgery Enhancement, or "Butt Lift" and that is not covered under any current healthcare plan. She paid, either with cash or a credit card, and that is the standard methods in Cosmetic Surgery Centers nationwide. I am guessing that she was given a quote from a local Cosmetic Surgery Center, then mentioned it to her friends, who offered "Call Pedro Hernandez" he packs lard into your butt cheeks and you look like Jennifer Lopez from behind. Her friend forgot to mention "Never lay in the hot sun, your butt will get lumpy".
