Speaking at a vigil for families of the victims and other students at Sandy Hook Elementary School, President Barack Obama says: "God has called them all home. For those of us who remain, let us find the strength to carry on." Watch his entire speech.
Updated at 12:05 a.m. ET: President Barack Obama, the father of two daughters, brought "the love and prayers of a nation" Sunday to the people of Newtown, Conn., in an emotional address at an interfaith vigil after he visited with the parents of the 20 boys and girls who were killed Friday in their elementary school classroom.
Police said Adam Lanza, 20, killed his mother before driving to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he killed the children and six other women before committing suicide Friday.
"Newtown, you are not alone," the president said. "As these difficult days have unfolded, you have also inspired us with stories of strength and resolve and sacrifice."
The auditorium filled to its capacity of about 900 well before the vigil got under way. Hundreds more streamed into the gymnasium, which was used for overflow.
Obama spoke from a simple podium adorned with the presidential seal, which was set up before a plain black backdrop on a black stage. The only other color was provided by the U.S. and Connecticut flags standing in the background and a small table bearing 26 small white votive candles, one for each of the victims at the school.
Saying society would be judged by how well it fosters its children, the president said: "We're all parents. And they're all our children. This is our first task: caring for our children.
Watch the entire interfaith vigil for Connecticut shooting victims, including President Obama's speech.
Obama asked whether America was doing enough and bluntly concluded: "No. And this must change."
"We can't tolerate this any longer," he declared. "These tragedies must end."
The president challenged the audience asking: "Are we prepared to say that we're powerless in the face of such carnage? That the politics are too hard? Are we prepared to say that such violence visited on our children year after year after year is the price of our freedom?"
He vowed to "use whatever power this office holds to engage our citizens ... to save another child or another parent or another town" the anguish of Newtown.
Obama vows action on gun violence: 'These tragedies must end'
The president concluded by reciting the names of all 20 children who had been killed and asked God to bless them "with His holy comfort."
A White House official said Obama, who made no comment as he left the White House, personally wrote most of his planned remarks. He was accompanied aboard Air Force One by Reps. John Larson and Rosa DeLauro, both D-Conn.
In churches and stadiums, Americans mourn school shooting victims
The president was like thousands of other parents who have been drawn to Newtown from all over the country after the shootings.
"We can always pray for the goodness of people to just come out and try to bury this evil that's happened and hug our children a little better," Terry Polvay of Newtown said Sunday.
At My Place, a nearby restaurant, about three dozen people gathered to watch the vigil.
"I thought that Obama ... connected," said Aaron Urbain, 48, who works in information technology and has lived in Newtown for six years. "The messages were all togetherness ... and I found comfort in that."
Afterward, the restaurant staff asked to hold a moment for all of the victims as well as the alleged shooter's mother, Nancy Lanza, who was a regular at My Place.
“Nancy was known by everybody because she was a nice person,” said Carlos Diaz.

Turning our eyes back to our own broken naton, a societal problem.
Thanks for President Obama has taken his time to visit the victims' family and friends.
May God the Father, Lord Jesus Christ continues to heal the sicks and to bound the wounds.
30 round magazines found at the scene...
Mr. President its time to get serious about these high powered rifles..
Buck!! what the NRA has to say...
It wasn't a rifle that was used. You left wingers are soooo pathetic
this tragedy has affected all of us more than I would have expected.I can't imagine what that community and those parents must be going through. I hope the president can offer some solace to those most affected. I fear that group of people will need a great deal of counseling, good move mr. president.
Thanks Mr. President for your compassion.
.
I have a recommendation about sensible gun regulation. If government can track everyone's cell phone and know your whereabouts, why can't we insert some computer chips in every gun, especially powerful weapons, so goernment would be able to track their movements down and pay more attention when such weapons approach ...not hunting areas...but schools, government building, churches, etc.
navyvet98; Multiple reports said all the victims were killed with the Bushmaster.223. Read a little closer.
navyvet98, maybe you should do a little more checking. The majority of the victims were shot multiple time with a Buckmaster that was found next to his body. Stop making asinine comments until you know the facts.
Funny because they said 4 pistols. The Bushmaster was still in the car. Or are they changing evidence for obama like they did Benghazi and Tuscon.
Good Lord navyvet!!! Read!!!! The bushmaster was used. There was a shotgun in the car.
navyvet98, really, you want to make this about Obama? When you get info from Fox News you will get it wrong more times than not.
Navyvet...if you tried reading, you might know the coroner said all the fatalities were from the 223. Which is a rifle, in that it is rifled.
navyvet98 wrote:
The medical examiner, hospital trauma surgeon and the police say that the children were shot with a semi-automatic assault-type rifle ( quote: a "a semi-automatic civilian version of those issued to the US military" ), ...and the children were all shot between 3 and 11 times each, most at close range.
What does being "left wing" or right wing have to do with the facts which are being reported by the police and medical examiner?
Are you saying to us that only YOUR facts matter to you?
And if you hear a "fact" which is in disagreement with your own opinion, in your mind does that just naturally make the individual who is reporting that fact a "left winger"?
Hmm, interesting world you live in there. It sounds like a pretty dark place, to me.
'navyvet98', I have just visited your Newsvine page and I have read all of your posts.
It is my opinion, after reading the thoughts you have expressed on your Newsvine page, that if following one of these horrible mass shootings the perpetrator of the crime was discovered to have been publishing a blog, or a social media comments page with dozens of comments similar to your own ... everyone would be saying: "This guy was clearly disturbed, and should have been on someones radar long ago."
Your words reveal you to be hyper-partisan, angry and very extreme in your thinking ...to the point where you seem irrational, to me. You are seeing a world which exists only in your own mind. You are connecting completely disassociated things, in order to create your own outcomes ( support your previously held opinions); aka: "motivated reasoning."
Please do some reading about motivated reasoning and "cognitive dissonance", and if you recognize anything there - or if you will ask a loved-one you trust to also read the information and if they recognize something familiar after also reading your own Newsvine posts (and some of the many, many responses and corrections you have received from others on Newsvine, citing actual facts for you contradicting your misstatements), ...then please, for your sake and the sake of those who love and care about you, seek some professional counselling. Life doesn't have to be so dark.
And if you are truly a US Navy Veteran, thank you for your service. Take care.
Perhaps, we are forgetting the important facts. Innocent children and adults are no longer with us due to personality disorder, anger, and unhappiness. These innocent children and their families deserve more tonight than political argument. As an ex teacher, I mourn for all of them and had wished our president could've given them some heart felt sorrow. I did not want to hear politics tonight. I pray some angel steps in and follows the Presidents "speech" with some kind words and warm mental hugs. These survivors all need as much emotional support as we can give them. Politics is for another time and another day.
The President has said "It must end". It is now time for the NRA to recognize its responsibility to promote gun laws which insure the rights of legitimate hunters and target shooters, but insure that guns are not available for massacres of our fellow citizens.
If the NRA continues its obstinate stand against any reasonable gun control laws, then the NRA will become a marginalized relic of a violent past for which no one really cares.
Our President just spoke with compassion, conviction, grace and purpose.
He spoke not only of tragedy and love of our children, but with the wisdom to know this scenario must end.
I hope those who lost their loved ones feel some comfort. Our greatest Constitutional rights are the right to life, liberty and the pusuit of happiness. All other rights must come second.
I voted for you twice, President Obama.
But, stop being spineless and start "welcoming the hatred of our enemies" as FDR did with Republicans and Corporate America.
President Obama, fight Republicon, the sociopathic NRA, and their Corporate puppetmasters.
@Pigotry
They did try that, it was called Fast & Furious.
Anything that is electronic can be taken out or changed.
navyvet98
What's not funny, is your 100% lack of respect the victims, their families, their friends, the community, and the ENTIRE United States of America for this tragedy. Save the hate toward obama for another day.
No offense, but absolute disgrace.
Thanks, Mr. Obama for a comforting speech. Now is the time to modify our gun laws. No one needs some of these weapons. Ever! These are not hunting weapons. This is NOT what the second amendment is about. It says militia. Remember the times then. Stop the carnage.
navyvet
doesn't speak for the huge majority of us...and his comments are not solace, comfort or care.
Let us all

and turn our attention to supporting common sense gun restrictions.... and prayers for the Newtown families and community.
naveyvet98 - You, perhaps, are as misguided as the shooter in Newtown...
The NRA cagily says that "It is waiting for all the facts." Of course "all" the facts will never be known. We know who the victims are, who the murderer is, what the weapons of choice were and when and where it was done. Who, What, When, Where and How - but not Why.
But that is not enough for the NRA to spin this into a "more guns are needed to protect us from the mean guys", because it's pretty tough to arm 1st and 2nd graders, and teachers are not able to keep one hand on a firearm while writing on the chalk board or encouraging students to engage in critical thinking.
C'mon NRA. Let's get that spin going, or you're just gonna fade into oblivion.
Just like the bombing of a church in Birmingham Alabama in 1963 that killed 4 little girls sparked the end of Jim Crow repression in the South and lead to the passage of the 1964 Civil Right Act, this incident may spark the end of the NRA as a feared lobbying organization as well as leading to the US actually dealing with mental health issues. At least I hope so.
Hmmmm, and I suppose all the Liberal/Progressive atheists, agnostics, secularists and other pagans will of course condone this religious spectacle Barrack Hussein used to promote another of his convoluted ideologies during a crisis.
Where is all the typical outrage, anger, hate, rage, racism and vitriol that we hear when Conservatives discuss religion? Why aren't all you limp-wristed Libbies foaming at the mouth about this overt religious manipulation of people in despair?
Is it acceptable now because Barrack Hussein decides to intrude on this poor community in mourning for his typical photo-op moment? How is this different than when you all bloviate all over each other about the "RWNJ's" and their religious fanaticism?
Of course in your little delusional Liberal minds its OK for Barrack Hussein to exploit this for his hate of the 2nd Amendment and to promote his agenda.
Your delusions are only surpassed by your hypocrisy.
When will we hear the NRA say, "The semi-automatic weapon used in this horrendous event should never have been available for use in that way?"
When will we hear the NRA say, "30-round capacity magazines are not legitimate for use in a civilized society"?
Could you possibly be a bigger jackass? I'm just curious because it's quite difficult to imagine frankly. And you have the gall to accuse other of 'bloviating'.
@JimSpence: What is wrong with you?
Profile..In and around twenty, separated from coworkers and or family, guns ready and available.
There's a little bit of a pinpoint.
JimSpence...
Corroded minds such as yours serve our Republic, our democracy nor our future any useful purpose.
Please secede with your fellow haters. We will not miss you OR your trailers.
I hope your children never suffer the fate that those in Connecticut did.
I love our President. Works for me.
Thanks, Mr. President.
Your words were heartfelt and expressed our grief as a nation for this senseless tragedy.
President Obama is offering a sincere, heartfelt response to this terrible tragedy. Congress needs to back it up with concrete measures protecting the American people from gun violence. If thousands of people were being killed each year by terrorists, there would be an outcry of rage and demands for action. How can we then disregard the tens of thousands of people who die or are injured each year as a consequence of gun violence in the US? Enact laws regulating and limiting gun ownership NOW! It's the right thing to do!
JimSpense: You hit the nail on the head. It is okay for Obama to bring religion into the equation but let ANYONE else and the liberals come unglued. I was glad to see Obama mention religion because religion is a big part of my life but it seems he is the only one allowed to mention the word without being chastised. Lets see how it plays out in the future. Hats off to you for calling this out, well said!
JimSpence
Jim, I certainly hope your Newsvine comments, like the one above, are "on someone's radar." That's always the lament heard after one of these tragedies. "This guy should have been on someone's radar." You display the sort of rhetoric and writings of a very disturbed and extremely angry individual who has lost all perspective and is very much in need of professional help.
I certainly hope that you have friends and family in your life who care about you, and who are prepared to intervene. And that you care enough about them to listen to them if they try.
I invite anyone on Newsvine to go to your page and read the past week of your Newsvine posts -- or just randomly read any of your posts over the past weeks and months -- and feel the strong sense of disquiet I feel knowing there are undoubtedly many more people out there like you.
I have suggested this to you before, Jim, but after the horror in Connecticut on Friday I'm not going to be one of those who saw the signs of rage, but turned my back, walked away and did nothing.
Please get some counselling, Jim, before you harm yourself or someone else. You are displaying the signs of a ticking time-bomb.
Take care of yourself.
Hilarious. Another right winger embarrasses himself by not knowing the facts before he spews nonsense while having the nerve to call others pathetic. "But, But But, They said........" LMFAO, And the right wing in America wonders why they have become the laughing stock of the nation.
We need shatter proof windows, and get rid of those freaking guns that only the mafia would use!!! Get rid of those Guns, What normal woman would need all those guns anyway? God bless all those children and all the adults that lost their lives. And God Bless the Familes! That Guy will rot in Hell!
Odd... I thought most of you haters hatred was because Obama was a Muslim. When he displays the obvious beliefs of a Christian, you still hate.
Make up up your mind what you hate.... and tell me it's not the color of his skin.
Bite me Spencer, you dicer- Now's not the or place.
AWWWWWWWWWWWW, did I get all the little Libbies panties in a bunch by exposing your hypocrisy.
C'mon Libbies, where are your cute little witty comments like you make about the right wing religious zealots? Why is this OK? Why is this religious spectacle acceptable in your minds?
Like I said, because you’re all hypocrites. It's OK for Barrack Hussein to finally find an opportunity to get on his soap box to push for more government intrusion into our rights and the Constitution using the religious pulpit, but it’s never OK for anyone else.
You all know this has little to do with the events in Newtown, this is all about another of his "fundamental transformations" of America. He sees a possible way of nibbling away at our 1st, 2nd and 5th Amendment Rights. Of course none of this will have any legal or Constitutional basis, it will be demanded on typical Liberal "emotional" reasons.
Of course nothing will be done to address the increasing dysfunction of our society since we began allowing Progressivisms convoluted social and economic justice nonsense and then further corroded by the irrational political correctness. This allows mental illness to run rampant through our society because Liberal/Progressives don't want to "label" anyone or to “profile” any person or group.
Nothing pleases me more than to see Liberals/Progressives squirming when their blatant hypocrisies are exposed.
Troll.
Just looking to get a rise out of someone, even at the expense of 20 dead children.
Got it.
Wow, I don’t think Obama understands that his appearance tonight and what he said will sell more guns in the next few days than all of the advertising by the NRA and gun manufactures could do over the course of the next six months. They should all be sending Obama thank you notes tomorrow for driving gun sales through the roof.
Oneofthesane: I do despise Obama, both the black half of him as well as the white half and you bet I do think he favors the muslims. What I said was, it appears its okay with the liberal community if Obama mentions religion. Let anyone else try it and they are chastised. That to me is hypocrisy and I will throw it in the faces of liberals any chance I get. If you can't understand this note I couldn't really give a rats behind.
Mark... If Obama's comments tonight sell more guns, then this country is in deeper @!$%# than any sane person can imagine.
Secondly, it's obvious you despise Obama and WHY you do.
Thirdly, the small minds like yours lost this election. Deal with it. America is better than you and your ilk. Your ideas and motives are archaic.
MarkMO = simple mind for bringing politics into a tragedy.
Do us all a favor and take your BS somewhere else.
Sailcat-2064101
So Sail, lemme ax you a question.
If we’re always so unnerved and outraged at the horrors of gun violence and the deaths it causes, tell me why aren’t we just as concerned with the other more severe and egregious killers in our society?
Assault (homicide) by discharge of firearms..…11,101
Drug-induced deaths………………………...…....40,239
Alcohol-induced deaths ………………………..….26,256
Source: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr61/nvsr61_06.pdf
Hmmmmm, seems like drugs and alcohol cause much more death and suffering than guns doesn’t it?
We all know how pathetically incompetent our criminal government is fighting the “war” on drugs and containing the effects of alcohol abuse in our country, what makes you think they’re going to do any better controlling gun violence. Especially when we won’t even address the most porous border in the world and its subsequent trafficking of everything from drugs to humans to arms.
Good luck!
Did you intentionally omit the rest of the firearms-related deaths? The total is closer to 32,000.
I guess Jim doesn't think deaths and injuries due to firearm related accidents deserve to be mentioned, Tim. Gun-related suicides, particularly by minors, are also not part of Jimmy's fantasy world, evidently. Jim's pathetic manipulation of the numbers disqualifies him from being taken seriously. He's just a troll.
No matter what you say all of America has seen what happened in this small town and we will do something about it...
Gun legislation will be introduced and all of America will be watching.. and just like you baggers lost the election this is a fight you guys wont win either... good luck!
No amount of data or number on a pdf can justify 20 little kids being killed in a school...
Get some help... i hope one of your family members is reading this.. they need to take your guns away...
Robert in Oregon
GO AWAY BOBBY!
You can get off your
highrocking horse and stop trying to impress yourself with your self-aggrandizement. No real American believes it.You and all your little limp-wristed friends know this was simply designed to be a political spectacle for Barrack Husseins benefit.
This should have been a compassionate event to reflect and compose those most affected by this tragedy, the people of Newtown, CT. Yes, even a <gulp> religious event is permissible as our nation was built on Judeo-Christian values. The existence of the Ten Commandments, the simplest and greatest laws ever created, proves this. We know the presence of the Decalogue in the courtroom causes you a flaccid attitude, but that’s OK.
This was neither the time nor the place to promote a political agenda. This should have been a simple commemoration of those poor souls lost in Friday’s tragic event, no more, no less. Bring the politics back to Washington where they belong.
You Libbies can be as outraged as you want at my insolence, you know I’m right. It’s a shame none of you have half the courage, as those teachers and children in Newtown, to admit it.
This is your shame.
Whats a "real American"?? What do i have to do to be a "real American" hate Obama?
whatever you guys are remember that you are the minority and are in the decline.. bye bye!!
Jim Spence, it seems like you are leaving out one factor in your argument. I'm not sure how many of those drug deaths are from legal drugs but drug deaths are for the most part self inflected where homicides by firearms are done against someone else. Don't get me wrong because I own guns and have a permit to carry them so I'm not in favor of banning all guns but something like this tragedy makes it very hard for sane people like us to justify carrying a gun.
The NRA has become a political mouth piece for gun dealers to scare people to buy more guns and supplies. I still remember the lies the NRA was spreading about primers while Clinton was in office. Gun reloaders ran out and bought all the primers they could find only to find out later that the NRA was lying. Then when Obama was elected the NRA spread the rumors that Obama has instructed the government to sell all spent shell casings as scrap which was also misleading because it turned out to be very large casings that could be made into IED bombs by terrorist that were ordered to be sold as scrap. In other words the NRA lied again to scare their members.
Jim Spence, you appear to be a disgrace to this nation.
JimSpence wrote:
Jim, clearly I disagree with your opinions. And I especially disagree with the vitriolic manner and the insulting and uncivil tone with which you choose to express your opinions. Our society is suffering way to much of that. But "real Americans" (as you put it) do believe in free speech and free expression, and will defend it.
Most, including myself prefer to defend thoughtful, moderate, civil, measured and responsible speech, but nevertheless ...
...I will defend your right to make a complete ass of yourself in public; a right which you exercise frequently. And I can only imagine how strongly that must offend you, coming from this "limp-wristed Libbie" (in actuality a registered Independent; although I do have carpal tunnel in one wrist).
Larry-2260635
Larry, it doesn’t matter how many deaths are from “legal” drugs. Drug deaths are NOT self-inflicted, unless you grow your own amrijuana, poppies, coca leaves or synthesize your own morphine, vicodin or other “legal” drugs. In order to die from drugs legal or illegal, more than likely someone else made them and sold or gave them to you or your children. As such, they are complicit in your death as much as the gun wielding terrorist like this Liberal Adam Lanza.
Every pound of heroin or cocaine or other drug that is smuggled into this country for the past 40 years is an instrument of murder, as much as any handgun. The same goes for alcohol.
Of course Liberals/Progressives protect their sacrosanct drugs that they so want to legalize, and of course deal with the unintended consequences later. Alcohol of course causes more morbidity, mortality and social/moral disruption than any of the other drugs but we can’t get rid of that either. Not to mention the effects these drugs have on people and drives them to handgun abuse and misuse.
What it should make very hard for you to allow is that INSANE people are getting these guns. The sane people don’t bother me.
JimSpence: I figured that Robert in Oregon had you accurately pegged until you came out with a well-reasoned argument. Let's see more of this JimSpence...
Robert in Oregon
Bobby, you should know by now that not much offends me.
What does offend me however, is a president who panders his political agenda during an obvious time of mourning and sorrow. What does offend me is a subordinate cabal of chair-sniffers who believe all these problems our society deals with need to be managed by the criminals in our government. The same buffoons who have created most of the problems we see today.
The fingers that pulled the triggers on those guns that killed 28 people were not normal. They belonged to a very sick individual. Physi
F U C K you ALL!
A little tough there JWL. Lets all hope the best for Jim Spence. He may need some help and compassion.
This is a time we need to have some introspect and pull together.
It's true that part of the problem is cultural, but the other part is the ease in which ANYONE can get and use a handgun and the fact that handguns and assault weapons are so plentiful.
Here are the facts folks, per wikipedia, under the title "List of countries by firearm-related death rate":
This is the number of deaths per year per 100,000 people. It is also the latest information in one particular year over the last eight year. Read it a weep.
#1 is El Salvador, with 50 deaths per 100,000 per year.
#12 is the good ole USA with 9 per 100,000.
#19 is Canada with 4.7. Canada bans the sale of hand guns. Result? A death rate that is almost half that of the US.
#73 is Japan, with .07 deaths by fire arm per 100,000 people. Japan, I believe, bans the sale of all types of firearms.
Now, with that being said, which country would you rather live in when it comes to the safety of you and your family? Something needs to be done about this crap.
I have always been a supporter and backer of this President, to the point of an almost all out brawl at family gatherings-makes Thanksgiving and Christmas really fun. (sarcasm) But the Brady Bill was a failure, companies had warehouses full of 30 round mags and when they were down to about a half billion they started selling rebuild kits. Same rifles minus pistol grip and flash suppressor and sold with a 5 round clip. There were no mass shootings then, it is our SOCIETY that has gone to Hell, the cats out of the bag people a new Brady Bill type law will change nothing. God help us.
What happened on Friday is unimaginable. It is impossible to wrap your brain around the concept that anyone could massacre innocent babies. That being said, I feel the need to make a few comments on what I have read here. This is a culture problem...not a gun problem. We have had mass shootings before, in recent history, and they are almost exclusively the acts of troubled (or mentally ill) young men. Why is that? Why did this not happen 40 years ago? Automatic and semi-automative weapons are not a recent development. What is different now?
How many of these crimes are committed by rational adults who legally own these sorts of weapons? The CDC did a study after the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban and they could not determine whether the ban had had ANY impact on reducing gun violence. Why is that? Hollow law?
Besides hunting there are very real reasons for owning guns...whether you choose to believe or acknowledge the reason or not. One is that the barn door is open. Guns are out there - millions of them. Assault weapons, etc. are out there in the world. They will always be available to the criminal element. I have a right to protect myself, my family and my possessions in a manner that gives me a fighting chance against my "enemy". Rely on the police to protect me? When was the last time you had to call the police because you had an intruder in your home or attempting to break in to your home? The damage is done by the time the police arrive on the scene. They cannot be everywhere. They cannot prevent crime from happening. They DON'T prevent crime from happening. I want to ensure that I can protect against multiple persons coming into my home - not just one person. I need to cover all my bases - just in case.
The other reason is that I pay attention to the history of the world. Just because something has not happened in this country does not mean it never will - remember 9/11? Did ANYONE ever think that we would be attacked like that in our homeland? But we were. That being said, it is possible that our government will fail us...it has happened elsewhere. It is possible there could be a coup...it has happened elsewhere. It is possible that someone could attempt to invade and "citizen soldiers" are needed (THAT is the definition of a militia - not an army or national guard). Does anyone actually believe that a traditional rifle or revolver is any match for the firepower that could be used against the citizenry?
I am not a crazy person. I do not believe that anything like that is eminent. But I do believe in being prepared. I choose to hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. If there is the chance of a bad storm - I prepare by stocking up on water, batteries, etc. If I lived in an earthquake prone area I would have a go bag. I live in an increasingly shinking violent world. I have the right to prepare to be ready to protect me and mine if the need should arise and YOU do not have the right to say I cannot.
It's ok Lib tards your idol Hitler banned guns and that worked out so well. Of course we should do it here. EVERY MASS SHOOTING IN THE U.S. HAS BEEN IN GUN FREE ZONES EXCEPT ONE do you have a dang clue or are you just STUPID do you know why these scum bags look for GUN FREE ZONES to commit these crimes. It's because they know they will be able to KILL MORE people before someone shows up who is capable of stopping them. ARMED TEACHERS-- SAVE KIDS they do it in Isreal. I'm glad Utah allows concealed carry in public schools by licensed permit holders. I just hope the district my 6 and 8 years olds go to is smart enough to allow carry by teachers and administrators. Also my nephew the Chief of Police here is pro-active and has had officers go through the schools so they know the layout and can make plans to deal with this type situation.
You are just further embarrassing yourself here. Most of the ten commandments are actually violations of the Constitution and are not laws of the land.
JimSpence... What the @!$%# is wrong with you? The reason people don't care about him citing religion is because 20 children are dead. In addition, it was a unified religion event. It was symbolic of coming together at a time when there should be NOBODY opposed to it. Of course, people like you will find a reason to hate it but please for the sake of everybody, stop. You really should look into getting help if you are that angry at our president for something as mundane as that reference at a time like this. Plus, I can only assume you hate homosexuals by the phrase "limp-wristed" that you continuously use and hate Muslims and you assume Obama is one... based on how you call him Barack Hussein. Your culture fascinates me.. and it pains me to see such a large portion of my country think the way that you do.
jefs99
Jefs, this has nothing to do with a well reasoned argument, this has everything to do with common sense.
There is no doubt that firearms killed 28 people last Friday. The more amazing thing is that there are over 270 million firearms in this country that did NOT kill someone else Friday!
Look, no one is going to argue the fact that Newtown went through a tragedy, nothing else explains it. But when we have that many firearms that aren’t used in homicides or suicides the system is a success. Yes, it’s little consolation to the families and friends of those lost but it is a fact. The great majority of gun owners are responsible and safe owners.
What I’m saying is that so many people always have a knee-jerk reaction to any tragedy or event that involves their pet-peeve issue. Would this have been any less horrific if Lanza ran in and threw 10 Molotov cocktails in a few classrooms? I doubt it.
This massacre was caused by a very sick, mentally unstable, monster. There were signs, as is the case in most of these situations, that were screaming for help from Adam Lanza. Mental problems, inability to control emotions or other issues are exposed every day. As an advanced society we should be dealing with the problems not the instruments.
The memorial service was NOT the place to be promoting and projecting an agenda. Everyone knows what happened, who was involved and who did it. The bigger question that will most likely never be answered is, why? What drove a 20 year old boy to the point of killing his own mother and then randomly killing 27 other strangers?
The guns didn’t jump in his hands at his home, they did not drive him to the school, they did not force him into the school, Adam Lanza did all this. A very sick and unstable Adam Lanza.
Using a tragedy to promote a policy is irresponsible. Our whole nation is affected. Let’s grieve and comfort each other. Once all the victims are laid to rest and calmer heads prevail, then we can engage in reasonable discussion about what else can be done. Not now. During heightened emotions, like we’re all going through now, is not a good time to be discussing this problem. You'll notice how politicians use chaos and crisis to promote their agenda.
As far as my original post is concerned, it’s just amazing to watch the hypocrites on the Left insult, berate and demonize anyone of faith who is a Conservative, but when Barrack Hussein uses it as a bully pulpit to promote his ideology it’s OK. Can you imagine the outcry if a Conservative were to promote prayer in school at the memorial service? The Liberal/Progressives and their useful idiots would be rabid. Even though much of what was happening in Sandyhook Elementary school during those awful minutes of terror was exactly that, prayer.
I'll wager that a good number of secularists were transformed into believers as those gunshots rang out and later when 28 families went home without a loved one.
JimSpence....You are very sick and need mental help NOW ! I know you don't see it, but it is clear to any sane person. I hope that if you do not have the strength or fortitude to seek help that someone who knows you has the guts to intervene and get help for you.
Jay Peevia Facebook
Ahhh, so what is the limiting factor of when we can use religion Jay? Is it when 20 children are massacred or just one young boy in Detroit from a drug overdose? How about a mothers Faith when she realizes her child has incurable leukemia? What are the guidelines for allowing religion Jay? Why do you Libbies insult and demonize someone’s Faith when they practice it regularly but not when it’s used to promote an agenda?
I’m not angry at Barrack Hussein. I’m angry at his and you Liberals/Progressives manipulation of religion to satisfy your political and ideological agenda’s. I’m angry that you’re such hypocrites you call Mormons a cult, but here it was “symbolic of coming together”. I’m angry because when abortion is debated on religious grounds it’s a “fetus” that is aborted, but when it’s miscarried at the same dates, it’s a baby.
I’m angry because you assume I don’t like gays, because I use “limp-wristed” when I describe your Liberal cowardice always hiding behind the government rather than standing on your own merit. I don’t care if Barrack Hussein is Muslim, Christian or worships teddy bears as long as he doesn’t exploit religion. During the Catholic contraceptive controversy we demanded the church pulpit not be used against that issue. Gun control doesn’t belong on the altar of religion either, unified or not.
BTW, I call him Barrack Hussein because that is his name. Is he embarrassed of his birthright name? More importantly, are you?
Try to keep up Spanky.
All of you so called Real Americans have a real problem when it comes to facts..
The first press conference Obama gave on Friday afternoon he mentioned the shootings in Chicago..
You people are so dumb... come and post here with no idea of what is going on..
As a country, we have been through this too many times, whether it's an elementary school in Newtown or a shopping mall in Oregon or a temple in Wisconsin or a movie theater in Aurora or a street corner in Chicago. These neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children, and we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.
JimSpence, come on now. Don't grenade troll and stop derailing please.
JWLTude, not good either.
You are both suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Let me try and explain just how wrong and utterly stupid your comments are. Not only am I a Progressive, I am an atheist. I have zero problem with anyone effected by this tragedy finding comfort in their beliefs, public or private. I have no problem with a public official joining them in their expression of grief. What I do have a problem with is a right-wing moron trying to make political points from a national tragedy.
I see that you and JimSpence do seem to have a lot in common.
Now that you've exercised your pseudo-religious rant; tell me Jim, what weapon would Jesus use to gun down over 20 children? You want to keep "Jesus" out of the gun control discussion, but your fellow conservatives sure want to inject him into pretty much everything else having to do with "guvmint". So which is it Jim?...keep him in or leave him out?
Then you should try using some sometime.
And a U.S.Representative from Texas, Louis Ghomert (think I spelled it right and if I didn't he deserves it) said he believes that the types of weapons and large clips need to be sold and kept. I wonder what the hell he would think if it was one of his chldren, or if his kids are grown, his grandchildren. Actually, I hope he didn't spawn any child.
It is because he is elected with support and money from NRA. By the NRA and for the NRA.
Please leave navyvet98 alone. He hasn't been the same since he caught that STD during a port of call in Thailand.
The NRA is a paper tiger, and its support will eventually become an albatrose similiar to the no-tax pledge.
Keith: I have read numerous posts about the NRA financing the Republican machine. I find the rants of the liberals comical; if you replace NRA with the word "Unions" it is dead on. I don't doubt for a minute that the NRA funnels money to republicans that support the Second Amendment. I donate to the NRA and would be disappointed if they didn't. Seems to me that a bunch of violent gangster thugs funneling money to the Democrats is no better if not worse. Hypocritical deems once again.
I heard Gomer pile today saying he wishes the Teachers had a gun to kill this guy with. Louie I hate to tell you this. I am 57 and I have only heard once in my life of a may using his gun to save someone else. That was In Houston. He saved a woman from her husband in a Walmart parking lot, or maybe it was a mall. 1 time in 57 years. What about in AZ at that mall when Abby Giffard was shot. Everyone has a gun in AZ. Where were these cowboys then. They are never there when you need one. And what about when these guys have body armor on. Your gonna get yourself killed.
Would fewer children have been killed if the shooter had used ten-round magazines? Five-round magazines?
Mark MO. The NRA is not there to protect peoples 2nd amendment rights. They are the lobby of the Gun makers. They only represent the rich company's. They have deputed people into thinking the Government wants to take there guns away from them. The great majority of the people that join the NRA are simple minded people. The Koch Brothers do the same thing. They spend Millions to get the simple minded people to do there dirty work for them. It reminds me of the KKK. They were simple minded people that could told what to do and they would do it. The Tea party also comes to mind. Opps that was the Koch Brothers at work there too. Rich people spent all this money to change peoples minds by scaring them into what they want them to believe. They spend Millions to get people to elect people that will help the Koch's and not the people that elect them. Koch's spent well over $100 million last election. But they made more then 4 billion more last year, because of the money they spent in 2010.
Not only do the right wing idiots bash Obama but they bash unions too. It's alright for a hood like Sheldon Adelson to give millions to Republican candidates but let a union give a dime to a Democrat and all hell breaks loose. Republicans are trying to destroy unions so is it any wonder unions give to Democrats.
Now this story is not about politics so lets give respect to those that were killed and stop the political bashing. In all appearances Obama was shaken but this senseless act so good for him to address the nation in this time of sorrow.
I don't know if you're serious or not but the time it takes to change magazines is less time to kill before the police arrive.
Chuck, you are going to have to help me out here because of my simplicity. Are the conservatives the wealthy folks or are they the ones living in trailer parks. You know, the flunkies in the Navy. The E3 and E4 that protect your sorry ass and are deployed for months on end. I have heard a wide variety of descriptions tonight of who the conservative folks are, not many of you can agree: should really get your story straight so us simpletons can understand. The hypocrisy for the left is running rampant, you certainly are a simple but you come across as a dumb ass!
Republicans blocked benefits and job bills for returning veterans so why would a vet with a brain vote for a Republican?? Because they want our young men to get killed fighting their wars? Get real. Any vet with a brain would vote for a Democrat.
Laws should be pass to have a security system that is second to none at all the schools. It was a tragic event, horrific in nature, only a lunatic or terrorist would do such thing. The security of the school was probably too weak. It should have multiple layers. The children need to be protected at all cost, and any law that is put in place should be towards securing our schools against lunatics, terrorist, etc.... The sooner, the better. The crazies are probably out in full force since they may think that the world is going to end on the 21st of Dec and they do not want to die alone. Sane people know that the world will not end on the 21st of Dec. Protect our schools now from psychos.
The NRA, protecting baby killers, gun nuts, Rambo wannabes and religious psychopaths for decades ! Now that they own half of Congress they feel immune to any thoughts of reason.
Will our elected representatives stand up for America and our children or will they remain loyal to their financial sponsor ? Stay tuned !
Isn't it ironic that some folks who call citizens "wimpy" if those citizens choose to stride unfearingly out their front doors to meet their fellow man unarmed...
... are the same folks lauding the heroic strenght of those who must cower behind store-bought fire power before sneaking out their back door to face world that frightens them so much.
I hope he goes national with the message of personal responsibility and community responsibility -- as only he can. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. The idiot father telling his kid not to touch the gun in the drawer, yet, while the kid is showing it off to his little friend, kills him with it. The high schoolers who don't want to snitch on the kid with the gun in his backpack. The gun owner who never bothered to take a safety course -- I don't know officer, it just went off when I was cleaning it and shot my wife in the leg. Yeppers, people kill people.
except when it's part of an FBI sting, then Holder and Obama gets blamed for where the guns come from not Guns don't kill people, people kill people
Well, it's good to see the most ignorant among us out trolling the Vine. Fox, you are typical of the low bred, low rent Klan that advocates for this crap then says ignorant things when it comes back and bites you on your worthless a$$.
The NRA's absolute opposition to any reasonable gun laws has become unteneble, unpatriotic, a relic of the days of musket loaders. If the NRA continues with this mantra, then it must assume a share of the responsibility for the capacity of events such as Newtown, CT.
And if it refuses to budge from this absolute "my-way-or-the-hiway" vision, then it will easily be overcome at election time. Legitimate gun owners know their continued availability of recreational gun sports depends on reasonable gun laws that curb the opportunity of mass shootings of little children.
Less be very clear. Guns kill people. Remington makes a rifle that goes off all the time and has killed several people. But the gun lobby has made sure Remington still makes and sells these rifles. Its what most sharp shooters use. Police and Military alike use them. But no one can seem to get them stopped from making this gun. You see in this country, as long as the company is making money off something, it really don't make any difference if it is safe or not. We have seen it with Auto, and many other items in this country. It seems that our Government will let anything go as long as there is a profit to be made.
This will make for some great photo-ops for Obama.
And speeches of empty platitudes, hand wringing, and calls for more socialism.
Alan get over your indignation. This is what a President does and what is expected of him. I am not a fan of President Obama but I am glad that he is going.
He already won the election. It's not a photo op.
.. festering sore losers..
Right-wing fanatics would crucify Obama whether he went or didnt go. It makes no difference to them what he does as long as they keep saying he is wrong. Its their mantra.
Alan, you reveal yourself to be a totally insensitive, heartless creep. Obama did what he had to do for that community, and he did it well. Leave your nastiness for tomorrow.
Obama has made a very moving call to action. None of his words threaten legitimate owners of guns for hunting and target shooting and collecting, but he has made it clear that mass killings of little children has nothing to do with recreational gun usage and must be stopped.
Common man. Yes he did look good and Presidential didn't he. I am sure the people he was with were glad to have him come to be with them. You can bet Little Bush wouldn't have gone.
alan_static
You mean, the GOP socialism? The one where we redistribute wealth from the lower/middle class to the rich and corporations? Or the GOP tellings who we can marry, what our religion should be, what women can and cannot do with their bodies, or what our family values should be. Is that the socialism you are referring too?
Amazing, when this country is reeling in pain from an attack, all you right wingers can think about, is yourselves.
Re. : #4
there is
"common"
and
common-low-life.
Obama has laid down the gauntlet. What did Obama say that the NRA disagrees with? Or will the NRA remain shivering in its corner "waiting for all the facts"? We only know Who, What, When, Where, How and what the weather was.
Perhaps the NRA is waiting to see the murderer voted Democratic or Republican.
This is for all the haters out there. The Pres just can't do anything right. He tries to comfort these victims and you say it's for a photo-shoot. If he had said nothing then you would chastise him for NOT saying anything. Just can't win with you haters can he?
By 'meaningful action' I hope he doesn't mean banning AR-15's.
LOL, WHAT A BUNCH OF PU----, when the time's come, now I know who will survive and who will be a victim!
Yeah, what on earth would we ever do without those.
How many six-year-olds need to die for your pathetic illusions about gun rights?
The NRA is a minute interest group with 4.3million members. But it bribes our representatives and opinion leaders and produces this way a lot of leverage for the firearm producing industry. The 2nd amentment from a long gone time with very different social and political issues is being used to legitimize the ownership of guns without feeling or holding any responsibility. It is an extremist organisation in the real sense of the word. It pretense it preserves our "freedom" while advocating private gunownership. So far it has mostly contributed to more guns being used to kill inocent people.
You mean like obam groups such as the unions always advocating violence and blood. Then his delude fringe groups go on a shooting rampage so this POS can take away our rights?
In 1791 there may was a need for owning a gun but not today. Just look what has become out of this "right". Other civilized countries do not need that right. They have a police force and armed forces. Don´t you trust our armed forces?
politicos
Not with a dictator like obama as POTUS
navyvet(which I doubt)
As usual you spew bile and crap and offer nothing. Probably a Navy E3 washout.
Idiotic, and delusional. But then, you had no idea that all the kids were shot with an AR-15, so no big surprise.
Wonder if he will work in a campaign fund raiser while he is there?
I generally hold a great deal of respect for our military personel; however, navyvet, your partisan rants have revealed you to be unworthy of such respect.
Correction; McHales navyvet.
navyvet98 may be a vet himself, but I won't be surprised as he was dishonorably discharged.
Keith
Probably a E2-E3 wash out. He's not smart enough to be any more then that.
He is there for a photo op plain and simple. He has no plan and it goes
with his fiscal cliff plan, his jobs plan and the budgets he has approved the
last 4 years.
BTW, There is no gun violence in Chicago! it has the toughest gun laws
in the country! Also before some of the nitwits call for an assault weapon ban.
I am 150% behind a true assault weapon ban. BUT I also know that there have
not been any sold since a law enacted May 19, 1986was passed. The last assault
weapon ban was to ban scary looking black guns. If we wanted to ban scary looking
quite a few Walmart shoppers would be illegal.
If he hadn't been there, you would be the first one to complain that he didn't care what happens to our children and citizens.
Starbuck49,
People like DesotoKim would bitch if he went and bitch if he didn't. All people like him want to do is bitch. That's why they're so pathetic.
I know, someone ALWAYS pisses in his cheerios every morning.
People who know the least about gun control laws are always doing the most screaming about it .Extremists on both sides are wrong. Guns are not going to disappear. The right to own guns has limitations.Anti-gun nuts think anyone can walk into Dicks and buy a machinegun, you can't.Pro-gun nuts think they should be allowed to stockpile military ordinance, guess what ......... you're both wrong.
Absolutely correct, not until Americans collectively value their children over their "automatic" toys will there be change. What a pathetic country that cannot and will not protect its children.
Best comment so far. As asked above, I fully support our police, and our military (I am one). But I also believe that, as a well trained marksman, I should have the right to keep hunting arms, and a weapon for self defense to bridge the time between a 911 call and the police arriving. And I think taking away that right is just a dangerous as allowing people to collect full-auto machine guns and RPGs.
Vet. Most of us are like you. But having said that, do you feel the need to have a assault Weapon. Me I could get by with a 9mm and a shot gun and My 30-30. Man if I can't stop someone from breaking in with that, then nothing else is going to work.
You have to love the hypocrisy of the left. Their UNIONS and OWS threaten and carry our violence. Their 47 percenters create massacres and they blame the NRA.
This incident is just proof that gun control laws will not keep weapons out of the hands of criminals. Connecticut's system mirrors the same controls we had before. It did not sell a weapon to a violent deluded criminal. However, he still acquired the weapons and murdered 26 people.
Why do the Blue States have such weird psychotic people. Of course that may explain obama's re-election
navyvt98, you are a little confused. The mother was a gun nut and they all belonged to her. The kid got them from her, killed her with one of them and then went to the school. Sounds like a right winger to me.
I bet navyvet98 barely completes grade school himself. I just wish he had better edulcation.
Are there at lot of people in the military who think the way you do, or did this situation happen after you left?
You identify yourself as a vet. Which side were you on?
He was the Commander of the bathtub navy for the first 20 years of his life when his mother made him take a bath.
Navyvet. This kid wasn't a criminal before Friday. Most of these people that do this things were not criminal's before they started killing people. And yes these guns were legal. but the fact remain that no one needs these types of weapons. I have no problem with the 9mm with a 9 shoot clip. Its the Assault rifle that is the problem. These guns are to much for everyday people to have. And more to the point, as we can see, people can't keep them safe from being taken and used like Friday. If we are going to allow people to have any weapons of mass destruction, then anyone should be able to have a tank or any other weapon the Military has. That is insane. There has to be a middle ground.
DesotoKim; No gun violence in Chicago??? Surely you jest. Google "Chicago shootings 2012"
I think that he was being sarcastic.
>>>>>david1159
I think that he was being sarcastic<<<<
Then my apoligizes. It's hard to tell sarcasm with so many anti-gun / pro-gun loonies out there.
280 million guns in the country.
Background checks for guns should go farther. They should also check who lives in the same house and has the potential to use the guns. They do that something similar for car insurance. You go to get insurance and they ask who lives in the house that could potentially use the car.
That really gets impractical. All guns can't be guarded every minute. We probably have as many weapons as we have people.
If you have mental illness you can't get a gun. If someone that lives IN your house has recorded mental illness why would that be allowed?
Well, I do understand your point. The thing of it is, what if the guns are in a safe and have trigger locks? What if she promises to store them off site? There isn't a database that knows who is living in the house, and which of those is mentally unbalanced. I am unclear there was a record of any kind on Lanza.
What if a car was locked up in a garage. What if the keys were hidden. Yet there are many kids who get them and take a joy ride. You would have to put who lives with you in your house just like you would for car insurance and of course if you lie you are penalized. Adam Lanza had school records, saw medical Drs., saw Guidance Counselors etc. Probably had prescriptions. I am not saying this is a fix all but one step among many that can help. Something different that is being done now. My suggestion is much better than spouting hate on here and attacking political parties and putting blame on people or organizations.
Can you come up with a plausible suggestion that is not stupid.
Well, I don't think I am spouting hate. But your example of a car is pretty good. It kind of runs against your argument, doesn't it?
I almost think we have to look at how much we are willing to give up to make us safe. I think there are already too many guns to trace for us to do much in the line of registration and limitation.
I would make it difficult to suddenly buy large amounts of ammunition. I would make huge magazines more difficult to get.
Most of all, I would try to re-start our mental hospitals. We really don't have any.
I think we will continue to have tragedies from young males dressed up in paramilitary gear and carrying "let's pretend we are warriors" weapons. It is not a good situation. I don't know that we can make it much better without a total reset.
Didn't say you were spouting hate. I am not arguing with you just trying to have an intelligent discussion with possible solutions. I don't know what what you mean about the car example running against my suggestion. I was just saying that if you live with someone they can find a way to get into a gun safe or something else if they try hard enough. We have to start somewhere. We can't change the past but we can start going forward. We make people recertify for all sorts of things in the country. Why not have gun owners recertify? I agree about buying large amounts of ammunition and that was a good suggestion.
For every problem you come up with we can find a way to deal or solve it. I work in the Computer field. You would be astonished and alarmed what is being done to track people in this country. Don't say no, say yes and talk about the road blocks and try to come with a work around.
Yes we need more mental health solutions. Here is a road block, most mentally ill patients refuse to take their meds. They also can refuse treatment unless they are so ill they have to be legally forced. Some people actually get well so you can't keep mental patients in a hospital or institution forever. Some are improperly diagnosed just because they have different ideas or act a little different. Some are abandoned by their family.
I want to know something. President Obama is going to an interfaith prayer service. Where are the atheists screaming about separation of church and state? Is it different when President Obama does something rather than a Republican.
Yes it is. Because democrats love to ridicule people who have tea bags hanging from their ears. It's just the right thing to do. No matter what it is they're doing.
20 little children had flaming hot bullets rip through their little bodies and all you can come up with is this?
No Santhosha the reason for that statement was because every time someone said that they would pray for the children we would have a reply chastising them for their beliefs. Not only do I believe that type of righteous indignation is inappropriate considering the circumstances. I also find it interesting that it is not being expressed when it comes to this President.
There is a time and a place for everything but since that line had already been crossed by rather obnoxious epitaphs. If you believe that if you are going to be honest you should also be consistent. Perhaps some have thought better of what they were saying and have learned some lessens. If that is true I am all for.
Could you not have chosen another time to air your petty little grievance? Stop being so self-centred and spend a little time praying for those little chidren and their families.
Wrong david1159
I saw it and couldn't help but to roll my eyes when the religious pandering started, which didn't take long. Didn't matter at all that Obama was speaking. You can speak of love and community without that nonsense. What he said was nothing surprising, however. As silly as parts of it sounded, there are good things to be taken away from it.. particularly when he mentioned working with mental health professionals. Prevention should be the priority.
The field of mental health has suffered drawbacks in many areas due to budget cuts. I once worked for a nonprofit residential treatment facility for troubled kids and teens. It was evident to me that most of the patients there were not receiving proper treatment and being released prematurely. The units were often at capacity and children were shuffled around to make room. Often, you would have a variety of diagnoses to work with under one roof. The staff that actually work with them were underpaid for the amount of stress they have to endure (try just a buck or two over minimum wage). Administrators, on the other hand, did quite well in their comfy offices. Brand new BMWs, Corvettes, and RX-8s could be seen parked out front.
The first piece of business is to hike funding for this field of work and construct new facilities to house patients. Then make sure that active staff are getting paid properly for the work they do.
Obama has no right to go there one of those brave teachers run toward the gunman she ran to the fight and was very brave . Our fool obama in Benghazi ran from the fight whe he gave the order for our fighters to stand down and four good men died that day in Benghazi a coward like obama has no place giveing Honor to brave teachers who did not stand down when duity called .
Do you ever read what you write? If he had ignored it, you would be screaming about that. You are pointless.
Gee Larry, you've got that grenade trolling thing down pat don't you? Keep it up, we need to have somebody/something to laugh at.
No matter what the president does he is wrong, according to some of you people. Whether you like it or not, HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. He has EVERY right to be there and since most of you do not like the results of the election THAT WAS ALMOST 2 MONTHS AGO, please leave.
RIP in peace little ones and the adults. Everytime I think about you all, I begin to cry.
Have you had your meds today
you Obama fools are pathetic, just like your savior Barry. Benghazi was a cover for his guns to terrorists and his drone warfare just goes UN-noticed. You guys are like the 3 monkeys, see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing.
@Larry, people like you are no better than Lanza. So full of hate. It is the president's duty to be there. He is the POTUS! The hate in this country is festering and people like you, those of the GOP who have talked hate since this president started running, Rush Limbaugh and all the other hatemongers in the media have set a very dangerous tone for this country. It is showing in the violence coming from those who are weak minded. People like you. If those people didn't want the president there then let them say so, Who are you??
Bull@!$%#. No such order to stand down was ever issued, ever. Testimony covering all of this has already been well documented.
Jim spence and all the idiots who are making this about about religion, race and politics.
Unless you are one of those parents who will wake up christmas morning and know your 6 year old wont be running down the stairs to open his/her gifts, please shut your piehole.
If as a parent if I have to worry about every day, whether some Ahole like Jim spence is going to open fire @ my kids, bcos they cannot pick on people their age, I am all for banning Assault weapons. why do you need them? your house could get invaded by the british troops? or aliens?
Prayers are with the kids and the people who lost their lives to this senseless violence.
Larry shut your pie hole and stop making an ass of yourself.
Truth is innocent kids has lost their lives, young lives ripped short because we as nation as too afraid to stand up the Gun lobby.
If Obama goes to Newton, idiots who hate him are going to cry "photo op." If Obama DIDN'T go to Newton, those same idiots are going to cry "heartless @ssh0le." Because that's what self-righteous, predictable people do.
(Seriously-- there's something pathetically fascinating about people so petty that they'll find some way-- ANY way-- to squeeze their tired, one-note political views into a tragedy like this.)
What are the regulations for buying ammo? He sure had alot of it with him.
Are there any regulations? The guy in Indiana had 100k worth of ammo. Thats scary.
He also had 47 guns and threatened to shoot up an Elementary School he lived near. Nobody raised a red flag though. Yeah but he has rights though. Little children have rights too, especially the right to live.
Can anyone on here give me a good reason why someone should own 47 guns and $100K worth of ammo? If he had a business it would have been in a store or warehouse not in his own home.
I think there are reporting mechanisms in a couple of states for very large purchases. They talked about that here in Colorado after Aurora shootings.
There isn’t really any relevant connection between guns and religion. Religion may have its good points, I guess, calming or encouraging personal lives, but it’s totally ineffective in resolving social problems.
Apart from 3rd world tribal war countries, the US has to be the most violent and probably has been since the Indian wars. Here’s the good news: in 100 years all the peace-loving people will emigrate out of pure fear and disgust. The remaining Americans can blast away until it becomes a graveyard. After that, perhaps another bunch of pilgrims will come again (hopefully not religious zealots like the first lot) and try to make it a better place.
It’s a sad story. I just wonder why the people with tons more money than the NRA and weapons manufacturers cannot lobby for gun control, since money is the only way to persuade politicians. I suppose they don’t care because they’re safe in their gated mansions and limousines.
And I don’t buy the pathetically pessimistic argument that if we take guns away from citizens then only the criminals will possess them. Can’t some of you clever people think of a sensible comparison to undermine that kind of thinking?
navyvet98 wrote:
The medical examiner, the hospital trauma surgeon and the police have reported that the children and most of the other victims were shot with a semi-automatic rifle. Furthermore the children were all shot between 3 and 11 times each, most at close range.
What does being "left wing" or right wing have to do with facts being reported by the police and medical examiner"?
Or are you saying to us that only YOUR "facts" matter to you, and if you hear a "fact" which is in disagreement with your own opinion, then that naturally makes the individual reporting that fact a "left winger"?
Hmm, interesting world you live in there, bub. It sounds like a very dark place, to me.
If I remember correctly, the Republicans stated that they do not need any FACT checkers, they have there own facts.
Some people have their own reality too.

NotANavyVet is flat pathological with his hatred of the President and he is trying very hard to fit his delusional half thoughts into what he says. We can always expect very little of him and be rewarded with even less. I'm not sure if we could lower the bar low enough for this tool.
Well said! I wonder whose Navy he served in.
He was commander of his own bathtub navy when his mommy made him take a bath every day for 20 years.
Sailing, Sailing. Thanks Starbuck! You gave me a hilarious, yet disturbing visual with that one.
Actually, I am beginning to think that NavyVet still takes baths with his mommy.
Obama is a politician. Crocodile tears are part of the job. Keep one hand on your heart and the other on your gun.
I mean for Christ's sake, people were in there praying for this murder to stop! Where the hell was God in all this? Too 'busy' to intervene. Screw god - ass hole!
You people are the ones telling him he needs to get out of our schools. That he offends you. That he's inflicting on your "rights". Then something like his happens and you wonder why he's not there? I mean, he's just made up anyways, right? All of us who pray to him are just stupid, right?
Personally, I know every single one of those children are sitting in heaven with God right now. And I feel truly sad for people like you who have no hope such as this. Who ignore God in every aspect of their life but yet seem to acknowledge that gaping 'what if' in their heart when they ask where he was in situations like this. Why would you wonder if he so certainly doesn't exist?
If you don't believe in God, that is fine. That is what you believe. But then there would be no point in wondering why he didn't show up in our tragedy. He isn't real, remember?
And who is "you people"?
I said the same thing erin but I'm sorry I did . Faith does not prevent this sort of thing but it does give comfort to those who need it most, when they need it most.I was out of line, selfishly reacting, out of anger and frustration.
ErinD,
You can't believe that GOD is going to do everything for you???? I thought Christ wanted to save your soul not your life. You are going to die but you will be in peace if you were kind and caring to others. Obama has nice words to say. These sweet children were just too young to die. They shouldn't be forgotten.
No, not necessarily. I would say that a substantial percentage of the population is less educated in certain matters, particularly the school of philosophy. No, I'm not just talking just about Christians, either - just in case you think I'm singling them out. It's ANY belief in supernatural entities or phenomena. Theologians fail to justify such things with arguments that have long been refuted. When individuals realize this, they are more skeptical and rightfully so.
The real issue at hand, however, is the emotional appeal that lures people into believing a number of absurd things. Tragedies like this, in particular, lead people to feel like they can't cope without some ultimate purpose. They lose their sense of self in all of it and want reassurance, flocking to whatever "spiritual" system is most familiar to them and their community (which just happens to be Christian denominations in the US). They are then told that it's the moral failings of society and secularism that's to blame and that atheists are the devil. Or the teaching of evolution in schools. Or some other scapegoat. There have already been a number of these type of comments on the vine from your fellow God fearing folk.
Stupid? That can be applied to anyone, whether they identify as religious or not. Ignorant? Quite a few in my experience.
Instead of spending your time praying to a mystical entity of your flavor, you could simply reflect on what can be done to prevent such atrocities in the future. That's time better spent.

amen. God Bless these families. May they know in their hearts that so many are heartbroken for each of them. For the grandparents, parents, big brothers, big sisters, little brothers, little sisters and twins. We all wish to scoop you up and hold you so tight. The world is kinder than it seems. May your hearts find peace and acceptance. You did nothing to deserve such fear and loss. It is as it is. May peace and understanding fill your hearts. we all weep for your children, our children and for those in such terrible pain that acts like this seem like an answer. our hearts are with you today and in the days to come. i wish i had words that contained more comfort than these. but there are many wishes much more important than mine today. Thank you, Mr. President for your compassion and heart. We see your pain as well.
What a great opportunity for Obama to shore up his political capital.
@!$%# YOU Common Man. Well i see they edited my first word. So let me say it better.
May you get hurt and nobody care.
Common Man always strutting is moral vacuum, a real piece of garbage in the form of a person.
Also a great photo-op for Obama. Can't let a crisis go to waste.
And another opportunity for a republicant to show any compassion for the victims, their families, or anyone else "BUT his own selfish and pathetic needs" again.
Keep up your rhetoric, it will only hurt the GOP EVEN MORE.
Absolutely Pathetic.
Common Man = Trash.
"What a great opportunity for Obama to shore up his political capital."
Common-man, could you not put your petty male ego with your petty grievances aside for one weekend to mourn your fellow Americans? Are you that hard, cynical and cut off from your heart?
Common Man - Are you the next shooter?? Is your hate that much different from the Newtown shooter?? Go look in the mirror and express your hate to your self. What do you see?...
The NRA is a domestic terrorist cult being led by the nose by the money from gun manufacturers and the wacko RWNJ's. All you have to do is watch any speech by their nutcase leader, Wayne LaPerrier. Every gun toting nut I have ever met was of the same ilk that vilified teachers and police and firefighters as overpaid union thugs who are the reason the country is broke. Mission accomplished NRA, ALEC, Koch Bros., FOX, gun manufacturers, T-baggers and the rest of the knuckle-draggers. The most stunning revelation of this, the recent NRA sanctioned Slaughter, is the fact that teachers will sacrifice their own lives to save your children. Dosen't seem like they're the over-paid villains that FOX/Rush/NRA/GOP slime make them out to be. Oh, and by the way, other than a few veterans and policeman, I've never met a gun nut I couldn't disarm and stuff his conceal/carry weapon up his pu**y ass before he could fumble it out of it's holster.
GTRMN - Absolutely true. Wayne La Pierre, chief of the NRA has partnered with the likes of Karl Rove. Need we say
more?? Put another way, the NRA, under Wayne's "leadership", has become nothing more than a right wing hate group; attacking the Obama and the Democrats on many issues having nothing to do with the Second Amendment. In other words, La Pierre has been using membership money like a Super Pack, attacking Democrats for right wing causes. Put another way, the NRA has become "Wayne's World". It's time to kick Wayne's ass out o f the NRA and for that organization to start being responsible and stop being a narcissistic fraud...
