Funeral directors from throughout Connecticut have come forward to help the grieving town, another example of support that's so desperately needed. NBC's Anne Thompson reports.
Updated at 4:50 p.m. ET: With tears and hugs, a grief-rocked Connecticut town said farewell Monday to the first of its slain children: two 6-year-olds being buried in unbearably small coffins on a cold, gray day.
The funerals of first graders Noah Pozner and Jack Pinto will be followed by two dozen more services over coming days as the other children and staffers murdered at Newtown's Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday are laid to rest.

A misty rain was in the air as mourners -- many in black, others in school gear emblazoned with a capital “N” -- gathered outside the Honan Funeral Home on Main St. for Jack’s funeral.
Mourners said the sports-loving youngster was wearing the red-and-white jersey of his idol, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who had honored him by printing his name on his cleats for Sunday’s game.
At a viewing before the packed service, where psalms were read, more than two dozen members of his wrestling club presented Jack’s grandmother with their medals.
“We’re broken,” Jack Wellman, 13, who helped coach the junior wrestlers, said outside the funeral home.
“It’s a nightmare we’re not waking up from,” said his mother, Caren Wellman. Her son added, “Unfortunately, there’s going to be a lot more.”
Victims in Conn. shooting: Daring principal, fun-loving teacher, 6-year-old twin
Twenty-five miles away, in Fairfield, Noah’s family gathered at another funeral home, on a street where some nurses had decorated lampposts with white balloons and well-wishers left teddy bears and flowers at the base of a maple tree.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy met with family before the service at the Abraham L. Greene & Sons Funeral Home, where the brown-haired boy was laid in a simple wooden casket adorned with the Star of David.
Noah's mother, Veronika Pozner, spoke and called her son "her little man," according to Rabbi Yehoshua Hect.
An uncle, Alexis Haller, remembered Noah – whose twin sister, Arielle, was in a different classroom and survived Adam Lanza's murderous rampage -- as a funny child with a mischievous streak.
"If Noah had not been taken from us, he would have become a great man. He would been a wonderful husband and a loving father," Haller said, according to remarks he provided to The Associated Press.
It is unspeakably tragic that none of us can bring Noah back," he said. "We would go to the ends of the earth to do so, but none of us can. What we can do is carry Noah within us, always.
“We can remember the joy he brought to us. We can hold his memory close to our hearts. We can treasure him forever."
There will be no reprieve from the sorrow in Newtown this week, as each day brings more funerals.
On Tuesday, there will be a noon service at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown for Jessica Rekos, 6, a girl who loved horses and had asked Santa for cowgirl boots and a hat. Her parents had promised to get her a horse when she was 10.
Obama vows action on gun violence: 'These tragedies must end'
“She was a creative, beautiful little girl who loved playing with her little brothers, Travis and Shane,” her family said in a statement.
“She spent time writing in her journals, making up stories, and doing ‘research’ on orca whales - one of her passions after seeing the movie ‘Free Willy’ last year. She said her dream was to see a real orca. Thankfully her dream was realized in October when she went to SeaWorld.”
The couple called Jessica, their first-born, the “rock of the family.”
“She had an answer for everything, she didn't miss a trick, and she outsmarted us every time. We called her our little CEO for the way she carefully thought out and planned everything,” they wrote.
As a community mourns those who were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting on Friday, children and parents come to terms with the tragedy. NBC's Michelle Franzen reports.
“We cannot imagine our life without her. We are mourning her loss, sharing our beautiful memories we have of her, and trying to help her brother Travis understand why he can't play with his best friend.”
The funeral of teacher Victoria Soto, 27, is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Lordship Community Church, Stratford. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Stratford.
Soto’s cousin, Jim Wiltsie, told the Wall Street Journal that she had tried to shield her first-graders from the bullets. "That is how she was found. Huddled with her children," Wiltsie said.
Seven-year-old student Daniel Barden’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by burial at St. Rose Cemetery.
A funeral mass for student Catherine Hubbard, 6, is due to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by burial at St. Rose Cemetery.
Her parents, Jennifer and Matthew Hubbard, released a statement expressing gratitude to emergency responders and for the support of the community. “We are greatly saddened by the loss of our beautiful daughter, Catherine Violet, and our thoughts and prayers are with the other families who have been affected by this tragedy,” they said.
The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association is releasing details of the services, and victims’ families have been releasing statements with poignant memories.
The family of Ana Grace Marquez-Greene, 6, called her “our precious angel” – a generous spirit who left “I love you” notes under her parents’ pillow, who learned to sing before she talked, and who danced from room to room in her home.
“We ask that you pray for the legions of people who are left behind to cherish memories of her,” wrote her parents, Nelba Marquez-Greene and saxophonist Jimmy Greene.
“We also ask that you, like Ana, commit selfless acts of kindness to all those around you. Maybe, in some way, through love, similar senseless acts of violence could be prevented.”

...so sad.
May the love of friends, family and beliefs help heal all these families.
R.I.P.
Newtown, Aurora, Littleton, Virginia Tech, Columbine, et.al. and on and on, know that you are in our prayers. We are with You. We will not stand by and watch this carnage go on forever. THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE....NOW.
The problem is the NRA and the gun lobby oppose even the most sensible laws to control what is an out of control gun culture. Our lawmakers are far more afraid of the NRA than they are of the electorate. Rest in Peace all yee gentle souls whose lives were indirectly destroyed by the evil NRA.
NRA Members should be sending their membership cards back to the National Rifle Assiciation by the millions They should refuse to sent them a single additional dollar. END THE NRA NOW. With great ideas like concealed carry, stand your ground, ending the asault weapon ban and allowing guns in bars and on campus, the NRA has become a big part of the problem and they deserve to become extinct. I have an idea, BAN THE NRA. If the membership would stop paying their dues Loopy La La Pierre would get the message. The NRA has become PURE EVIL in concentrated form.
Sent your NRA Card back to the NRA today. Stop paying NRA Dues. END THE NRA NOW!
Stop the madness! NRA Members must and should demand that LaPierre be removed now!
Vin1112: I accidentally voted you up on your second asinine post and then flagged both as "no value".
What does your obsession with Mexico have to do with funerals in Connecticut?
Vin112
Another Westboro Baptist Church member heard from. I guess you'll be protesting at the funerals along with the rest of your congregation.
What an amazingly hate-filled and ignorant person you are. To use this tragedy as a platform for your petty political rants is beyond despicable.
Please do us all a favor and crawl back under your rock or go back over to FOX news and share your opinions with them. I'm sure you'll find your foolish rant more palatable over there. Or better yet, why don't you just go to blazes. There are lots of folks like you there.
Why all the hate? can you take a moment to have human feelings?
R.I.P. Noah and Jack, Our little angels.
Archey
We are a violent nation. Look at our history. This nation was built on violence. We embrace it. We revere it. We cling to it. We're proud of it. We watch it on television and flock to movies to see it. Not all human beings are like us, we are unique. We are addicted to violence. Like any other addition the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem. We won't acknowledge that we have a problem in this country and therefore we look for others to blame for our societal failings.
To correct this problem we have to go back to the beginning. We have to acknowledge that our country has a long history of violence. We have laws that protect our right to carry firearms for our own "protection". That in and of itself should indicate that we, as a nation, have a problem and until we address that problem things will only get worse.
Frankly, I don't think we're able to deal with this problem because, as a nation, we haven't acknowledged that there is a problem. A problem that goes back 400 years, to the founding of this country and to a culture built on the belief that "guns and God" made this country great. How many times have we heard that in America it is our "God-given right to keep and bear arms." It says so in the Constitution. Samuel Colt's clever advertising campaign, "The Gun that Won the West" sold a lot of firearms and perpetuated a myth we still cling to today.
How do we overcome the problem of gun violence in this country when it is deeply sown in our national psyche?
Just look at the responses to this post and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I own a gun. I have owned MANY MANY guns. I spent Friday evening at a gun range teaching a female friend of my wife's how to safely handle and shoot a 9mm handgun she thinks she needs for home protection. This is a 66 year old woman who lives alone and thinks she needs a gun. What in the world is wrong with this nation?
skip, i agree.we are raised this way.we live in a violent world.fear seems to be the root.we as a planet have not progressed at all. our technology has but not man.we are still the scared angry species weve always been.easily led. dont think for yourself just follow the herd.peace is just a word.a word that is used as an excuse to kill.i dont own a gun.but i whole heartidly agree in the protection aspect of it.its a necessary evil in an unecessarily evil world.the gun will go when man grows up.
I was thinking on what the motive could have been. What came to mind is this. Could he have felt that his mother loved the school at which she worked and the children she taught. If he indeed had a mental illness then it seems it wouldnt be very hard for him to make false pretenses in the world he lives in. For example, If he put a book on hold at the library and it was finally in. He ask's his mother to take him there so he can go get it, But she tell's him no not tonight, Because she has parent teacher meeting's. Even though it happened only once, In his mind it's happend a million times. Could he have felt he needed to destroy the competition he feels is causing him pain and anguish. I know some would be asking why would he kill his mother then. Well, he might just think she's part of the hell he's imagined being put through. And the only reason he killed himself is he paniced when he heard the police comming. I know is sounds far fetched. But it makes sents if you think about it.
Vin1112 = TROLL
By responding to its comments, you're giving it exactly what it wants. Attention.
It's all they have. That's the truly sad part. They are lost in hatred and most of them are completely unaware of that fact. As the son of a prominent psychologist I see this sort of behavior as a clear sign of potential mental illness. But of course these are the people who never seek help, mainly because they believe their "thinking" is superior to others.
The hatred of this president alone is beyond irrational. Much of it based on lies and slander. This is a job no one would really want. I sometimes wonder what his kids think of all of this? Thought that about the Bush daughters as well. You can't possibly insulate them from all of these attacks. If someone says your father is an evil man how do you rationalize that with the loving, caring man who raised you? I admire GW far more since he left office. He learned his lessons the hard way and clearly wants no more of politics. I suspect Obama will feel the same when his term is up.
Anyone who watched the President over the last few days who still views him in a sinister way is really irrational. Unable to see the good through their hate. That's when you should consider getting help. Instead they seek out others who share their hate and reinforce it.
Violent "world"? I don't feel as much rudeness, immaturity, arrogance and attitude in other civilized countries as I do in the U.S.
In the 80's 2 people died at a Chicago grammer school the first was a maintance staff membrt who morally shot ran into the office to warn the school of a man with a gun. The next a a Chicago cop shot in the building. In a gun fight with a person ussing a Bush master and the cop with his hand gun , who will win?
That is true, but this is because one consession will only lead to others. I mean, look at anti-tobacco activists. At first they just wanted to restrict smoking in public establishments. But as soon as that consession was made they wanted something else - a warning label on every package of cigarettes. And after that was accomplished they wanted higher taxes on tobacco. And after that a ban on tobacco advertisements. And after that higher taxes still. And after that they wanted to prevent smoking even in private residences (successfully done in some cities). After that they'll want something else. They wont stop until smoking and all tobacco use of any kind is elminated from the face of the earth.
Given that activists are motivated not by rational assessment of a situation, but by emotional attachment to a goal, it would be illogical for the NRA to try and appease activists through concessions. These sorts of folks cannot be appease because they're driven by emotional attachment, and not by what is "reasonable" as you claim. One concession will only lead to many. Therefore no concessions should be made at all.
Freedom has been, and always will be, curtailed through a series of minor concessions over the course of many years. It never happens all at once. Given this, it would be utterly foolish of the NRA to concede anything to anti-gun activists.
The real change that needs to take place is in the space between out ears. Guns don't matter- it's the hand that wields them that do. It's the motives, intentions, attitudes and beliefs behind the finger that pulls the trigger that must be addressed. Without doing so, we'll never get to the root of the problem.
Guns don't have rights. People (and kids!) do.
Peace. Love. Give us guidance.
All of this is so heatbreaking. I will not make this thread political since it is all about the families and the one's that will no longer be part of that family. Leave the NRA and everyone else out of this story for now that can take place later. This is about a town state and nation that has been torn apart by the senseless death's of so many little ones. After a 20 year military career and the combat zones and all the carnage I can not and will not ever get used to the deaths of children who were innocent. May God Protect and comfort those families.
Wow Travis...you go from defending guns to defending smoking....and not ONCE do you speak of what happened to these poor children...it's sad and pathetic that you think that your "right" to smoke , i.e. kill yourself and others around you...and bear arms.... is so much more important than the lives of these children...you showed how little they mean to you by not even acknowledging what they went through. Sad and pathetic.
JBB,
It is a nightmare becoming so common that safety experts and the federal government are issuing new warnings today. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 37 kids were killed from TV, furniture and appliance tipovers last year alone — up a shocking 37 percent. Another 23,400 children were rushed to emergency rooms. From Rosen T.V. Reports just click older at left.
Sooooo, do we impose T.V. owenership laws too!!!
In 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes - one every 51 minute!!
In 2009 181 children died as a result of drunk drivers!!
Where then is the outcry to abolish alcohol?? Is this not enough deaths for you??
(that is just drunk driving. Doesn't include all the impacts on health care and social related issues)
When do we begin to take away cell phones from people not smart enought to not text and drive????
I am a bit surprised that the liberal left, who are always so adimate about people's "rights" are so quick to want to remove a right put in place by our fore fathers.
Vehicle's, televisions, cell phones and alcohol cunsumption are NOT rights. Gun ownership is.
GUNS are NOT the problem. We need to figure out how and why we keep breeding and rearing animals that are capable of these cold, calculated killings. THAT is the problem and we better start taking a real look at mental health in the U.S.!!!!!!

You gun nuts make me want to vomit
There better be a 'watch" on Vin1112--
Crazy talk--
May the children who have passed on never suffer any longer---babies, all of the babies at 6 years old.
Imagine your child taken away from you in this manner---hold them close, adore them, love them, value them.
There is an epidemic of many children in this country who have suffered physical/sexual abuse by their own parent or partner. That is bad enough--we are a Country of future murderous young adults, who are really screwed up, and that is because of the parents.
Mental Counseling should be available for all; unfortunately those who really need it, do not think there is anything wrong with themselves. They cannot distinguish from "Normal" behavior.
Sympathy to all those who were involved in this Massacre of Great Proportions. As Obama said, "It's time to STOP".
RIP little ones....no parent should have to go through the heartbreak that these parents must be going through and no parent should have to bury their child.
@JBB,
Please, tell me how well criminals follows laws?
Hagg you ignorant people make me want to VOMIT. Why is it the guns fault.
I have guns. they have never killed anyone. I can NOT even get them to take out the burning trash. Yet some of you think they are capable of killing innocent people.
The guns will shoot bullets at what ever the person holding it point it at.
I found this link just for those of you that think guns shoot people VS bullets.
http://www.policymic.com/articles/20856/adam-lanza-shooting-this-mass-murderer-might-have-been-motivated-by-drugs-not-by-guns
R.I.P. all of this horrific tragedy.......
The time has come to secure our schools like we secure our airports!! The only ones allowed access are students, employees and parents of students, PERIOD! Armed guards at the entrance manning scanners and metal detectors.
@Leftwinglooser ......Amen to all you saying ....I wish you all will red and process this post it is the truth ......stop making excuses with NRA and all stuff for this idiot and idiot mother search ....she was not on welfare that she could not afford health care ......she disable her son mentally by taking him as a baby to the shooting range ,Father should have taken the kids away from her .I cannot stand her stupid smile ,media please disregard her picture ,take her off it's insulting to the grieving parents .....
Through out this whole ordeal I have read comments that attempt to equate guns with freedom. I have listened to people make justification after justification for why guns just should not have more laws passed to controle them. Let me open your eyes to something...
You HAVE NOTHING that will take out a M1A1. You have no where near the training of the most experienced military on the planet. Even in places like Syria, the rebels did not start winning the civil war until they where given heavy weapons by other nations.
This is why your defense of freedom bull just simply dose not hold up. You can defend your freedom more by exorcising your rights and voting then you ever could with a gun. You do not have to agree with me but you would find out real fast that your guns in another American civil war would be pointless. You would need access to modern heavy weapons for you not to simply be run over.
Guns so your not defenseless? I have no guns and I am not any more likely to be a victim then a person who caries a gun. Why? I learned close combat and I learned highly effective use of nonlethal weapons that can be used to disarm at a distance people with guns.
If you are a gun owner, you should be happy to welcome legislation designed to make you responsible for the use of your weapon by ANYONE who may use it. You should have no trouble putting your name and mental condition and other information in a publicly accessible database so that your neighbors know that you have a weapon and what type of condition you are in to sanely use it.
Many things we have in society that could be dangerous require strict laws and some form of supervision to ensure that they are not misused. A driver of a car has regulations to follow for safe operation and they have highway patrol to supervise the operation of cars. In some states, a knife more then a predetermined length is regulated. You can accept compromise if it helps keep the country from putting more 6 year olds in the ground.
There will vary likely be change this time and in the absence of a law that further restricts guns, I think we will see laws that hold gun owners to a vary high standard of safety and I think there will be a vary high cost if they fail in their duty to secure their weapons.
A legal gun owner's weapons put this children in the ground. A legal gun owner that was irresponsible with her weapons. A legal gun owner that is now dead by her own weapons.. I have said before that legal gun owners pose more of a risk to me and my family then criminals. The death of these kids helps to illustrate that point..
Some criminals follow laws better then some gun owners secure their weapons.
Psychopath Warning
Ref: 1.31
"Some criminals follow laws better then some gun owners secure their weapons."
LOL! Really?
Yeah, really. There are plenty of examples of felons that DO NOT go back to what put them in jail. There are also plenty of examples of gun owners that put their gun in a place where they can be accessed by anyone.
QE137 you are dumb an't you boy.
"There are plenty of examples of felons that DO NOT go back to what put them in jail."
There R even more examples of criminals who DO go back 2 what put them in jail. Ever heard of the "revolving door"?
leftwingloser you are totally right.
stevephoenix-4019717
Yeah, Im dumb, But that is ok. I find that I get smarter every day. Oh, look there... Im already smart enough not to carry a gun.. See, I learn fast..
Vin1112: I'm an avid gun owner. I'm from a family of cops and military. And I, and my family, don't see a problem with pulling high-capacity magazines and requiring a one-week waiting period.
I don't think it would have prevented this problem, but it's a start. It's time we become responsible in this country about our guns.
Guns DO NOT represent freedom.
Yep and that explains the need for a gun how? If you think you need lethal force to deal with crime, that is your deal. I don't need to resort to that.
You should be ready for new regs on owning guns though. I doubt the NRA will be able to stop that this time.
Vin1112: What if monkeys took over the earth and put all humans in captivity? My God! We'll need guns to stop the monkeys. Help us, Vin1112! Help us keep our guns safe so we can keep monkeys out of power!!!
(In other words, your analogy is stupid.)
The police would get creative and put tasers on the end of their sticks. Might not be a "ranged" weapon like a gun, but in the off chance they hit a purp, it should be interesting to watch him convulse and lay on the ground in pain.
Monkey@Keyboard
No, its not. That example made police officers powerless, like the civilian you are supposed to protect.
"Yep and that explains the need for a gun how? If you think you need lethal force to deal with crime, that is your deal. I don't need to resort to that."
So what U R saying here is: if a thug breaks into your house, kills your dog & rapes U, U would just lay there & take it?
Or, U would call the police and hope against hope that the cops will arrive in time 2 save your azz? Yeah, that'll work! Because we all know that when seconds count, the police R only minutes away.(sarcasm)
Vin: NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
No one is going to take our gun rights or take away guns from police. The lobby is too strong. You're screaming "fire" in a theater, my friend.
You obviously have an agenda.
U don't say-3994780: Yep. That's why we need guns. Being armed and being accurate is a good thing. But so is being responsible: 7-day waiting period, no high capacity mags.
I've had to call the police because of gangs on my porch and waited an hour for them to arrive. Then they tell me they just got the call 3 minutes ago.
Who can look at a child that age and say they should die? There is no answer to evil, sadly it has been going on since day one and there is no way we can protect everyone. My heart aches for the victims and their families.
The guy would not get much past my front door without being blinded by my security system. In fact,it would be the same at the windows and any other potential entry point. If my security system failed I have a number of nonlethal always in reach.
You do understand that even if i had a gun, my dog could be killed and i could be raped anyway? Right? It illustrates the indoctrination of the gun for you not to realize that they are not the only defense and that the same things I am vulnerable to as a nonlethal carrier are the same thing that gun carriers are vulnerable to.
If you think a gun will stop you from being a victim 100% of the time, then you only have to ask the school shooters mom about that.. Opps, you can't, she is dead, by her own gun no less!
Good afternoon, Monkey!
I don't have a problem with a waiting period. It's needed.
And I don't go out looking 4 trouble either, but if someone breaks into my home AND gets past my shepherd-they R in 4 a BIG surprise.
"That locked door U just kicked in was locked 4 your protection, not mine." (I wish I could remember where I heard that.)
QE137
What is keeping Mexicans on their side of the border? NOTHING!
What is the best fence to keep Mexicans on their side of the border? FEAR!
@ Vin1112 - it is a sick individual, with an evil soul and a definite mental illness who takes the death of 20 children, ages 6 - 7, along with the heroic adults who attempted to save them, and endeavors to use their deaths as fodder for vindictive propaganda. Your questions about deaths of others on this blog is inappropriate - it is not that no one remembers, it is the very real fact this massacre is less than 4 days ago. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL, AND ON THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO THINK AS YOU DO!
God bless those that were lost in this tragedy, and those who broad shoulders help carry the unbearable grief of the families and friends who lost loved ones.
Vin: The best defense against criminals is to know your neighbors and be friends or friendly with everyone. Doing good (or doing bad) always comes back to you.
U don't say-3994780
A good line is: from "Out Of The Past"
Kathie Moffat: Oh, Jeff, I don't want to die!
Jeff Bailey: Neither do I, baby, but if I have to I'm gonna die last.
And you accuse others of being illogical.
"You do understand that even if i had a gun, my dog could be killed and i could be raped anyway? Right?"
Not neccessarily. U could take time 2 train with your weapon so that U can hit your target the first time. D'oh!
Vin1112:
Except that you said gang members are sitting on your porch with intent to harm.
Which is it, Vin? Or, should I say NRA blogging Vin?
I have a solution, for each weapon, require that the gun owner have insurance against someone getting injured or killed from that weapon. If the gun fires six times before reloading, require six million dollars of liability insurance. A gun having the ability to shoot 30 rounds would require $30,000,000 of insurance.
If you can't get the insurance, you can't have the gun, very simple. No one is taking the gun away, there is just a requirement that you have insurance. If you don't buy the insurance, the government will purchase it for you and you will be billed. Just like automobile owners insurance. (I know how you gun nuts like to compare to deaths by automobiles. Well, automobiles require insurance too.)
everyone is arguing about guns.....on Friday in China a man with a knife attacked 20+ kids in a school (yes same day as sandy hook!!) Now we have to ban knives also? Look its not the weapon that kills, its the people that are doing the killing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop blaming and start kicking a**!!! These f**king people need to be held accountable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Vin but I don't think I've seen that movie; At least, it doesn't sound familiar 2 me.
And U re-posted QE's question as if it were my question. Did U read my answer?
U don't say....I understand that this idiots mother was quite skilled with her weapons and frequented the shooting ranges a lot. Didn't keep her from getting a face full of lead did it?
Jamie....nobody died in that knife attack. Put very simply....who would you rather face....a lunatic with a knife or one with a semi-automatic weapon? Be honest, though....
@Vin1112, Do not even attempt to tell me what I do, or do not realize about this country. I am not the myopic fool who puts up posts such as yours on the day of the first of the funerals for this massacre, let alone on a blog that follows the story of the funerals! I won't even ask what is wrong with you as it is akin to asking what is/was wrong with the individuals who cause tragedies such as this. Go away Vin1112. The world does not need your kind on a day, and a week such as this - the funerals of the children. Go away Vin1112, go away now!
"a man with a knife attacked 20+ kids in a school"
Thank you, Jamie.
@steve,
How many people think their ADULT children R a threat 2 them?
No, I would use a kinetic knockdown device ( vary similar to a rubber bullet ). I would blind and tie. Even if I only used my blinders, that is almost always enough. As soon as they go off, anyone unprotected from the strobes can only do 1 thing.. Keep their eyes shut. If the purp tried to open his eyes, he would suffer 15 mins of temp blindness and he would vomit.
I get it. You have never been trained in the use of the tech I have.. It is cool. Trust me though, I am in no more danger from a home invasion then you are. I actively train for this all of the time. It is why I plug nonlethal so hard. So people know that there are alternatives to guns.
It is good that you think a gun can be 100% effective. I count on gun carriers to think the same way you do. The more cocky they are, the easier they are to handle. They have no idea in many cases what I 21st century bit of tech can do..
This is just too sad!
I feel my confidence has been broken. That confidence to send our children to school and then go about our day, will never be the same. The possibility something like this could happen will always be in the back of our minds. I am sure I speak for all the parents in Newtown, CT and many more.
GetReal-3945171
That time of the month? Maybe you should take some Mydol!
@Vin1112 - If Midol worked for men, then perhaps I would take it, though I do not believe it would help you. Your kind needs a straight-jacket, padded room, and Thorazine drip!
U don't say....that's really not the point now is it? The response by the NRA seems to be to arm more of its citizenry and these things won't happen as often. I contend that this woman was seemingly armed to the teeth and still ate lead. It can happen. I am just pointing out that the availability of assault weaponry is completely unnecessary for the ordinary citizen and should absolutely be banned. Sure, people will still kill other people....and mostly with guns. I'm not advocating the extinction of all guns, just those that are designed to shoot hundreds of bullets a minute! How logical is that??
Now is the time to speak out, America. Do not let these children and their teachers have died in vain.
Email the President and tell him that you will back him and any other politician that will reinstate the ban on automatic and semi-automatic weapons.
It is easy to do. Just go to Google and type in Email White House. The contact info comes right up.
Then contact your State Representatives by typing the name of your State, then Senator, or Governor, or Congressman. Let them each know respectfully that we, the majority of American citizens, want stricter gun controls NOW.
DO NOT LET THE NRA BULLY US ANYMORE.
@Vin1112 The issue is not whether or not it is a females "time of the month" (how predictable that you blame others), or that you live in Texas near the border (I live in Arizona near the border). THE ISSUE LIES SOLELY WITH THE VERY REAL FACT, AND BASED ON YOUR POSTINGS, YOU ARE A REVOLTING, DISGUSTING EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING.
silverton-2953905:
DEPORT OBAMA!
"Sorry I misquoted but I couldn't find the original quote."
Ok Vin. Just had 2 ask. No harm; No foul.
"It is why I plug nonlethal so hard. So people know that their are alternatives to guns."
And so that the criminals will live 2 go out the revolving door & do or-at least try-2 do the same crime again.
@vin1112, I do not expect bold type to scare you. I understand that nothing scares sociopaths, or psychopaths!
Gingis:
Am for Gun Control.
"So that means that all the bad guys will have guns, and the good guys won't" to defend themselves.
There IS no answer, but to take responsibility for yourself, hoping this extreme Trauma won't happen to any of us again--the per centage is 1% occurence. Let's hope that none of us are in that 1%.
It does not take away the fact, that murder, rampages are a weekly occurence--Awareness of severe Mental Illness noticed by parents and friends will be reported. That doesn't help either, unless the gun person admits themself or is willing to go into a Mental Facility--
So back to square #1.
"that's really not the point now is it?"
That is exactly the point, steve. Her home. Her gun. HER ADULT kid.
Who thinks their kids R a threat 2 them?
GetReal-3945171
Why do I get the feeling that I could dip your face in dough and make gorilla cookies?
U don't say....fine....if you want to make that the point, then make it the point. Apparently, this wizard was a real problem child. If I had a kid that scary in my house, I would take extra precautions to make sure that my weaponry was fully under lock and key. People (sorry....liberal use of the word in this case) like this don't just snap....sorry, there are warning signs all over the place if you just want to take the time to look for them.
Vin....don't even shed one tear or waste any sympathy on this a$$f@ck! He was no victim at all. A person has to be demented to think up something like this, but not so much that they have no idea how truly wrong it is and the devastation it will cause. Taking out a relative or close friend that has harmed you, while still contemptible, is at least understandable. To wipe out 20 children and 6 unarmed teachers is completely another thing. This a$$hole deserves no sympathy at all!
@Vin1112 You ask
the answer is because these children are ours. We care about others children but they are not our children.
"Despite of what this kid did, I can't help feeling that he was a victim too in some way."
U might B onto something, Vin. There is another article on the Web "Gunmans mother kept home life hidden". In this, it says:
"Nancy Lanza was the one who, if she heard you were short on cash, regularly offered to pick up the tab at My Place.
Two or three nights a week, Lanza — the mother of the gunman in Connecticut's horrific school massacre — came in for carryout salads, but stayed for Chardonnay and good humor."
I can't help but think that maybe if she had spent those "2 or 3 nights a week" at home with her son, MAYBE this wouldn't have happened.
If they so desire to do such things, let them try. Enough people get trained in how to defend themselves without killing, then maybe we can get used to a different mentality.
This world will never be free from bad guys the way things are going, but giving people alternatives to killing in order to defend themselves is desirable. To change the society, we have to change the acceptability of killing in everyone, including those who use killing as defense.
I am more concerned though with keeping "legal" guns out of the hands of people who should not have them. A good start is to limit the people who feel they need a gun for defense. We should never put another 7 year old in the ground because a person in their 50s did not secure their weapons.
Sorry steve. If he was that much of a problem, maybe he should have been institutionalized. But no, mommy had 2 sit in the bar instead..........
U don't say....I don't care if she was hooking every night at that bar! Lots of kids have really horrible parents and particulary lousy lives. But, they don't go out shooting up elementary schools!!! That is crazy thinking....and there is no excuse, absolutely NONE for this type of behaviour, no matter what his crappy mother was doing!
"We should never put another 7 year old in the ground because a person in their 50s did not secure their weapons."
I'm glad that U finally C that this is mommy's fault, and not the fault of an inanimate object.
This was an enjoyable discussion but I gotta go.
C U, Vin.
Start with this:
High-capacity magazines, assault weapons - OUTLAW THEM!!!!
You people crack me up. More people die every year due to alcohol abuse (go see for yourself on the CDC website). Thats right. 75000 alcohol related deaths vs 16000 gun related deaths each year. Number of people killed by drunk drivers is almost identical to the amount of people killed with guns. More kids are killed by drunk drivers than by guns..... Yet guns are the bigger problem.... Why? Oh thats right... Because all of the lefty libs like their drink and banning alcohol would be far too inconvenient for THEM.
Speak up, America.
Don't let another child die because of automatic or semi-automatic weapons.
Don't let the NRA or its supporters bully us anymore.
Can we address the larger alcohol problem first? It's killing more children and many many more people every year than guns. The insanity needs to stop!
Vin1112 banned, re-reg of Intrepid2.
I grew up in a pretty bad part of Massachusetts, we were always nervous walking the streets. The school was our refuge, if they take that from us, what do we have left?
These Little Boys and the other children are with their Maker now; It is time to QUIETLY respect them being laid to rest.
http://www.slate.com/blogs/crime/2012/12/16/gun_control_after_connecticut_shooting_could_australia_s_laws_provide_a.html
The media needs to get the hell out of Newtown Ct.
Time to leave these people alone, and let them grieve in private.
My god almighty this is horrible.
Keep on cranking out those hand guns and assault rifles folks. Net result 20 six and seven year olds killed just before Christmas. Satisfied yet? What's it going to take to get these weapons out of our society? Here you go... Read it and weep:
USA, with it's sorry culture and liberal hand gun laws = 9 deaths by firearms per 100,000 people per year.
Canada, with its ban on hand guns = 4.7 deaths by firearms per 100,000 people per year.
Japan, with its total ban on guns of any type = .07 deaths by firearms per 100,000 people per year.
To the poor parents, siblings and families of these young innocents, the so called Mayan prediction did in fact come true. Their lives ended albeit a few days sooner than predicted. I say this no way in jest....if this happened to me I would have difficulty remaining alive if it were my only child. If I had others it would be my responsibility to stay alive.
This is a sad story, but all this press is just feeding some other monster. They will feed off all the press and decide that they also want to be famous.
This story and all the rest are exactly what the killer wanted. He is famous. He will be forever known, just like the other mass murderers.
The national press should have just reported that there was a shooting, gave the details that one time, and been done with it. The rest of the reporting could just be the local area reports. By putting this in the national press, day after day, by having moments of silence at football games, by having the president speak, all the rest, it just does exactly what this monster wanted. Other monsters in waiting see this, and want to be remembered the same way.
If it did not get the press, then there would have been no reason for the guy to go out in such a big way. The press that these guys and their acts get feeds them.
I feel for the families. It is terrible for them. But please do not feed these monsters.
I made it about half way through when i had to quit reading. I can't even begin to imagine the pain. May the good Lord be with them.
Spoken like a person that has played too many FPS games.
From a dead sleep to hitting the bulls eye? Never mind the initial heart race and disorientation from being jarred awake.
I take it you only have one bullet in your firearm at any given time? After all, you hit your target every time without fail, correct?
Why? This needs to be front and center of every news outlet. We have to stop ignoring the fact that we have blown off mental health funding and treatment for far too long in this country.
The more we are reminded of these deaths while the memory is fresh, the better chance we have to address the glaring problem of piss poor mental health help we offer our troubled neighbors, friends and anyone else in need of treatment.
Lastly, let's ban Wynona Swineywrt. Such class using dozens of deaths to sell crap.
Newtown:
I prayed for you today;
I thought long and hard for the words to say.
“Help them Lord; let them know they have a purpose,
Show them true friendship and help them know the love from us.
Let them know I care and love them with all my heart;
For I see in them a true beauty from the start.
Show them they are worthy to be;
In that counted blessing for which we all can see.
I know that You can do this Lord;
For You have done it for me.”
That is what I said to Him; each word from my heart;
And I know He heard me because the clouds began to part.
I want everyone I care about to find the Way ;
This is why I prayed for you today.

I agree, Ava - my first reaction on seeing the headline was NO - they aren't burying any souls. Only bodies. The little souls are just fine. It's the survivors who are suffering.
i have many friends that are christians and while talking to a few of them last night about this tragedy i said.
well i cant see why you are all so sad..those children got a first class ticket to heaven, those kids are bouncing around all happy on their little clouds playing with jesus in paradise right now.
you would think that those families would be rejoicing in the fact that thier child was so special as to be choosen above all the other children to get to go and start their eternity in paradise.. now they dont have to suffer their average 76 years on this @!$%# planet
i bet the other parents are are wondering what is wrong with their children, why faith or maybe they just dont believe their own preaching.
You are either a) delusional or b) a member of the hate group - westboro baptist
those kids are not happy, no matter where they are if they are sentient of themselves they are missing their siblings, parents , etc...
no im not a member of anything.
how do you know those kids arent happy? you dont know!!
im simply spouting that religious crap that i always hear everyone say "oh isnt god great,,isnt heaven such a wonderful place,,,i cant wait till i get to go be with jesus,,ect,,ect,,ect
then when (according to their own religious belief) a bunch of children (or adults) get to go to this wonderful place, where everything is perfect and on one ever wants for anything and everyone is always happy all the time, they act all sad.
i think its just that deep down they are jelious that they didnt get to go, and they feel left out.
i think its extreamly sad that something like this happened,,but i think its interesting that so many "so called" believers dont seem to buy into their own stories
Genenut. Who are you to say how others can or can NOT heal from this tragic event.
If you want to believe 1 way you go ahead if someone else wants to believe that they are happy today with Jesus then they have that right also. I would much rather think of them having fun and playing with Jesus as to them just siting around waiting to find a place to go. It is your choice on how you get over this event.
@sjhrace
i read your post about how these people should be happy that their children were murdered, because of religious belief of afterlife. i dont have enough space here to explain to you how horrible and messed up a comment that was, and if i were one of your friends you supposedly asked that to, i would have punched you in the mouth and possibly stomped your head when you hit the ground. that is so insensitive and horrible and wrong to ask that. what in the hell is wrong with you. i believe in heaven, but i sure as hell dont want anyone i know to be murdered so they can get there faster. you are sick and i think you posted that for shock value, which makes it that much worse. shame on you
Sad beyond all belief... thoughts and prayers are with these children and adults, One cannot wrap your mind around such senseless, tragic violence directed at the most innocent among us.
Celtic1,Beautiful and appropriate comments.Thank you.
Our hearts are with you Newtown!
As a parent I cannot wrap my mind around the loss that these parents feel at this time. This thread is not political but of the loss of life . Have a little compassion for the loss of these children and teachers that died by the hands of this goof. These kids will not see Christmas morning or birthdays or anything else that kids do. My heart goes out to the entire community over this. For once folks leave the political comments off this and take in what happened. Look at the faces and read the names and then tell me that it does not make you mad or sad over this loss. This is a time to grieve not go off with political banter. 20 families are without their children. 6 families are without their Moms, daughters, wives or sisters. Reflect upon that.
you are right they wont have any more birthdays or christmases.
but they are in paradise playing pattycake with jesus for eternity, how can that be a bad thing?
the parents should be happy and rejoice that their child was special enough to be choosen by god to get to bypass the average 76 year lifespan on this crappy planet, and go streaight to heaven.
the children that lived must have been sinners or doing something wrong and thats why they didnt get to go bounce on their eternity clouds with the other worthy children.
everyone please vote this troll into collapse. sjhrace is either a member of wbc or an f'ing idiot... either way they need to stfu and collapsing thier comments is needed.
Genenut you need to STFU. you are making it worse with your IGNORANCE.
sjhrace, as a parent, I was selfish and wanted to keep my child with me as long as I can instead of her play pattycake with Jesus. I did not give me peace so soon after losing her to think that God chose her to leave me so soon. I knew that God would understand my selfishness, sorrow and grief.
People, please do not tell grieving families that this is God's will. I know we turn to religion to try to make sense of this tragedy, but if you cannot emphatize with the families without telling them that this is God's will, don't say anything at all or just say you are so sorry for their loss. Do you tell them that their loved ones are in a better place because I knew that the right and better place was with me.
To the famililes who lost loved ones, take time to grieve. Get mad at God if you have to; do whatever you need to do to get through this severe pain. I feel your pain and I am so sorry for your loss.
Shiloh,Perfect comments to the other posters.thank you.
Very sad for the little boys, my heart is with their families.
But guys, what is the problem with Mexico?... The gunman was American, the weapons were legally bought in America... Don´t you think the problem is inside? No drugs supply from Mexico without any demand...Now, Legal drugs, legal weapons, growing violence in TV, where is the problem?, in Mexico?. The problem is when in your Wal-Mart's supermarket list you have: produce, dairy, groceries, bullets and a gun.
I've thought about little else since hearing the news on Friday. It's just an unspeakable tragedy. Twenty little lives cut short, plus 6 dedicated staff, as well as Lanza's mother. As a parent, I can't even begin to imagine the heartache of losing my child period, not to mention losing her in such a horrific way. There are just no words...
God help us all.
everyone please vote this troll into collapse. sjhrace is either a member of wbc or an f'ing idiot... either way they need to stfu and collapsing thier comments is needed.
you have it wrong ,,i dont even believe in god period.
i just think its messed up that people who do say they believe in god and heaven act like its sad when people get to go to a place that they are always praising as being such a wonderful place ,and how they cant wait to go their themselves.
they apperantly dont buy into their own bull$hit story
@sjhrace,
I understand WHAT U R saying; I just have an issue with HOW U R saying it. I, too, have a problem with the Bible thumpers who want 2 give "God" all of the credit 4 the good, while refusing 2 give "him" any of the responsibility 4 the bad. "It was Satan." Or the 1 that really gets my goad: "God will not interfere with Free Will." That last part, all that says 2 me is 1) Free Will OF THE VICTIM means nothing or 2) somebody spouting off about Free Will is trying 2 say that whatever happened 2 the victim was THEIR OWN FREE WILL. Of course, both of these R stupid; I really don't think that any of these kids woke up Friday morning and said 2 themselves: "I want 2 die today". There is a lot of anger in your posts; Perhaps it would B better 4 U if U took the anger down a notch or 2.
@Genenut,
Just because U don't agree, does not give U the right 2 call him/her a "f'ing idiot".
sjhrace, I was a little slow on the uptake. I now realize you are being sarcastic. I agree that saying God chose your child is the worse thing you can tell a parent. However, you can believe in a higher power without subscribing to Christianity or the Bible.
It is time for the NRA and their members to step up with positive solutions to gun violence, whether through higher taxes to help pay for a better mental health system or gun control by not allowing any gun ownership except to those who have taken and passed stringent gun handling courses. Gun owners and advocates must start being a voice for a solution to gun violence. And do not say if everyone had a gun...
Look all you wackos... this is about 28 people... stop the Obama, NRA, Westboro crap.... I'm tired of it.... Stop and think about the kids and adults and grow up!
Because it is the gun toting crzies at the NRA whgo oppose ANY gun regulations...none of these weapons has any legit peupose other than to kill fast..if .its not hunting or home self defense it ought to be illegal
This was a terrible and isolated act of violence by an uber-damaged individual. There are no words to express the horror of the tragedy, or the depth of the sorrow of the families and friends. Similarly, there should be no words to point fingers at the "totally irrelevant to this tragedy" NRA. This was a severely damaged individual who killed with a stolen gun. All the new handgun or assault rifle laws in the world would not have stopped this tragedy, since the gun was stolen, not purchased by the madman. There needs to be change all right, but that change is stronger families, schools with The Golden Rule and prayer as central elements, and churches given support by their communities, not unwarranted attacks by sensationalist and irresponsible so-called leaders, voyeuristic media and their cling-ons who twist and exploit tragedies to advance their own selfish agendas, and who waste trillions of dollars (that's where your mental healthcare and other human services dollars have gone, to the many Solyndras and war campaigns of this and prior administrations for the last thirty-plus years) and then need to distract and hide behind tragedy to avoid accountability or even detection by the sleeping masses. There needs to be respect for all people and for human life, and for the privacy of these devastated families in the awful time of these raw losses. Prayers for endurance of the pain and for healing of these families who have lost their loved ones in this senseless tragedy. So very sad for all who are suffering today and whose Christmas seasons will never be the same again. All of us who have lost and buried loved ones in the days before Christmas know that emptiness and sadness. Peace and healing to all.
Kevin Bitz,Thank you for those comments.I agree with you 100%.
Seriously, any of you who make this a political issue - shut the hell up. Just shut up. No one wants to hear your nonsense. Get the f*ck over it and over yourselves and have a compassionate spirit. That is what we lack in this country anymore, and that is why these horrible things happen. So just shut the hell up and if you have nothing nice or encouraging to say, don't even bother hitting the "reply" button. Now is NOT the time!!!
STFU...its those like you that allow this type of crime to persist...there is someone to blame other than the guman..every person who has ever stood in the way of sensible gun control...none of these weapons has any legit purpose other than to killl...
Rick....please keep quiet and move along. You're trolling is completely out of line and inconsiderate of those who have passed. Keep your agressive, hateful comments to yourself, you and vin 1112. Push your agendas some other time and reflect on the hideous incident that left these beautiful innocent children and teachers dead.
Yes Rick,
I too have had enough of you. I don't own a gun. I don't intend to own a gun. But I have the luxury of feeling safe (I live very close to Newtown).
This horrible tragedy is not the NRA's fault. You may not like it but the Constitution guarantees us the right to have weapons. The Federal Government or a state or local government should not have any more ability to pass a law contradicting that, than they do passing a law legalizing slavery or preventing women the right to vote. Our country was founded upon the principle of freedom. And with freedom comes danger. Perhaps some (unconstitutional) gun law could have prevented this. But then maybe several other tragedies would have occurred. It is extremely naive to think that gun laws will solve any of these problems.
In Atlanta, the board of Education hires Resource Officers for each school (esp middle and high)..a lot of these guys and ladies are retired police officers or ones who have left the force due to a light disability..but they patrol the halls and usually handle fights, unruly or out of control students, etc...It is too bad Newtown didn't have these officers as they would have taken this guy down and no one would have gotten hurt..I don't see why all school systems don't hire them for their schools..If police officers can work at resteraunts and fast food places as such, then to have at least two of them at each school would be a life saver..I'm sure tax payers wouldn't mind the extra cost to have them there..My heart goes out to the family members who lost their loved ones to this horrific crime..I know that they all are in heaven, espically the babies....
STFU? SPEAK UP!!!! You quiet little scared people are grieving this tragedy, and then moving on to the next. SPEAK UP to make changes.
Kaily,
That's right. Be compassionate and have a compassionate spirit like Kaily...........??????
Do you read what you write?? Just wondering.
@CTVIKING; My sentiments exactly. Thank you.
@Txx Horsemen: You are so right. She sure didn't make it any better. By the way and I really liked your previous comments you made in defense of our right to bear arms. I agreed with you one hundred percent. I always agree with your posts. You always respond with intellignce and wit. And I really like that.
Ban handguns and semi-automatic weapons. Who could argue with that?
Sweet,
Thank you.
Oh puh-leez! You can twist anything, can't you?
speak up to make change, absolutely. There is a lot of wrong going on in our country, but it is not all because of the NRA or gun owners, or the 2nd Amendment, or the mentally ill.. there are a lot of factors both social and political that lead to these types of tragedies. The problem is that when something like this happens, everyone wants to jump on the blame bandwagon and blame the President, who they already hate and will blame anything on, or blame Congress, or gunowners - the truth ALWAYS lies in the middle. Always. The truth is - there ARE millions of responsible gun owners in this country would would not even THINK about shooting children in a school. The truth is that crazy people will do crazy things no matter WHAT the regulations are. The truth is that we live in a violent society where we obsessively consume violent movies and video games on a constant basis. While most people have the ability to separate the reality of life from what they consume in media, there are many who are not able to do that and they are impacted greatly by violent media. We live in a world where we go to war and news reports go along and broadcast live "in the action!" People can go to gun shows and go home with a gun that day with little questions asked. People can obtain and own automatic weapons that have the capacity to kill many people.
My point was that it's ridiculous that people turn a travesty like this into a platform for which to throw political hatred at whomever is opposing them politically. Don't like Obama? Blame him. Don't like the NRA? Blame them. And then everyone gets into a heated argument over who's ideals are correct, and then undoubtedly religion gets pulled into the mix, and before you know it - no one knows why the hell anyone is arguing anymore. Now is not the time for heated political and theological debate. Now is the time for AMERICANS to come together and recognize that there are many issues that we need to resolve, not just one issue, and it's not just one person's fault. The truth is that it is all of our faults. We live in and breed the culture that we live in and until we ALL make changes, nothing will change. So you can all argue over whether it's Obama's fault, or the NRA's fault, and interpret the 2nd Amendment to suit your needs - but the reality is that 28 more people are dead, 20 of them small children, and in order to ensure that it never happens again, we need to start addressing the tough questions, and doing that does NOT begin with politics.
Was that better? *sarcasm*
"Like a comet blazing across the endless sky.... Gone Too Soon....
Like a Rainbow fading in the twinkling of an eye....Gone Too Soon......
"GONE TOO SOON" Michael Jackson
Rest in Paradise little ones... You will NEVER be forgotten!!!!!!!!!!!
Bless all those involved with this shooting. Except the shooter himself. Hopefully he's already in hell...
The NO COMMENT from the NRA is a pretty big COMMENT. The lack of interest in protecting innocents in the name of the 2nd Amendment is amazing at best. The founding fathers never anticipated that we would have folks owning assault weapons capable of killing masses of children in minutes. But I also know that their rabid need to have 30 round clips to attack a deer is important.
The responsibility of the crime is on the criminal. How disgusting that this article has come to this. Families are in unimaginable pain and I just pray they will have the strength to get through these dark days they are facing.
JAGER,
In 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes - one every 51 minute!!
In 2009 181 children died as a result of drunk drivers!!
Where then is the outcry to abolish alcohol?? Is this not enough deaths for you??
(that is just drunk driving. Doesn't include all the impacts on health care and social related issues)
When do we begin to take away cell phone????
How many people died from tobacco related deaths last year????? Over 400,000..........!!!!
I am a bit surprised that the liberal left, who are always so adimate about people's "rights" are so quick to want to remove a right put in place by our fore fathers.
Vehicle's, cell phone' and alcohol cunsumptions are not rights. Gun ownership is.
GUNS are NOT the problem. We need to figure out how and why we keep breeding and rearing animals that are capable of these cold, calculated killings. THAT is the problem and we better start taking a real look at mental health in the U.S.!!!!!!
TXHorseman you need to realize that you cannot argue with ignorance. Most of the people that post in the comments of this article do not have any idea about the repercussions of gun control. They are thinking with emotion and not with logic.
There is no logic to holding on to free distribution of assault rifles and large capacity magazines.
Nite,
HUH, did you read what I placed in my text??? It is not that I disgree, I just don't understand why we are not outraged about our children being tortured by pedifles, doing without food, being killed by drunk drivers, etc., etc. Why one and NOT all the others??????????????????
When I hear about the outrage of some people who want to possess automatic mass-people killing weapons because they can't buy them legally, I will be happy.
Right now it is illegal to drink and drive.
We do feed people in this country, yet the right would like to save a few bucks and let them suffer.
The Brady bill with teeth, is a good start.
Foe those who who advocate responsible gun ownership: a quck story.
My Dad was an excellent marksman (both in the in Army and in civilian pistol leagues). Thanking his neighbors for alerting me to his increasing dementia, I found him sleeping with a loaded revolver under his pillow.
This is the same guy that told me to never aim a loaded gun at a living thing unless your life was in danger.
He was worried about "them" and died of a stroke shortly thereafter.
Guns DO kill people. Its time to get rid of guns in America.
Mine has never fired a round without me or someone else pulling the trigger.
What kind do you have that fires at people.
Thank you steve!! Mine never has either. Don't think I won't bust down on a nut job who thinks he or she might shoot up the public place I'm in, or my home!!!
I was recently at a gun show in San Antonio, TX. You can buy a 40 round clip for any assult rifle. The time to ban these types of weapons is now!
Oh, I didn't realize we get to pick and choose which parts of the Constitution to follow. Maybe my 2 year old daughter should be allowed to vote. Because if we're choosing I'd like to ignore the 16th amendment and not pay any income tax.
Ctv the constitution doesnt assure that you can purchase an assault rifle with a high capacity clip at a gun show. While you and the NRA want to stretch it to that point the fact is that it is well within the capacity of congress to limit assault weapons which was once the law of this great nation and needs to return. Own all the guns you want. And lets make you 100% responsible for what happens with them. I own several weapons. All are secure.
Let's not forget that when the 2nd Amendment was drafted, they only had muskets that fired one round at a time and took 60 seconds to reload. As smart as the Founding Father were, I seriously doubt they would have allowed untrained civilians to have military-style weapons. Also, back in the 1700s, almost everyone hunted in order to eat, so a gun was a necessity. For hunting, you don't need a 30 round magazine.
Bryan,
All that you just said is completely irrelevant. The Constitution says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. If you think that the founding fathers would have done things differently had they known how weapons would advance then amend the Constitution. Until then - The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
the Militia act of 1792 seems to pretty much explain what the framers had in mind with the second amendment. They required a military service similar to our national guard and required training and yearly checks of people's "arms"
I hear them shooting with a shotguns that is semi automatic, they will empty that damn thing, I do NOT believe they hit the deer but hey threw at least 5-6 rounds out if they had 30 they might get the deer to drop.
The problem I see happening is that these people are allowed to get to a gun. Adam did NOT have the authority to use any of those guns. He first killed his mother then went to the school, after he got the other guns and mags loaded.
He also is on meds for his head. I have seen where some of the others that went on shooting sprees were on some of the same meds. I found this on here earlier.

I don't own a gun, nor am I interested in owning one. Most people who own guns are responsible people. We are in a quandry here where if we take the guns away from the people it leaves them in the hands of the bad guys who can pick us off anytime they want. The bad guys are not going to turn in their guns, that leaves us defenseless against everyone.
Where I live they passed a carry a gun no permit required law. Violent crime has dropped dramatically. What law abiding criminal would want to rob another guy with a gun. Kinda evens the playing field doesn't it? It makes me feel safer on my evening walk gunless or not!!!
CTVIKING: LOL your first comment was amazing. totally agree!!!!
Little Angels that will be sadly missed, did not even get a chance at life, their first kiss, boy friend, girl friend, what they wanted to be in life, this is so sad.
...automatic weapons did not exist when the 2nd Amendment was written.
Does anyone consider that factor when they make this argument??
It's a tragedy & we mourn the loss but what I'm tired of is this journalistic hypocrisy. You sure don't see the pictures of all the foreign children on the front page killed by US Government drone strikes, you don't even hear about it. Their deaths at the hands of the US Government far outnumber the deaths of children murdered in this country in any given year or years combined. Why is that? Then you people yell & scream for the government, the very government murdering foreign children without cause, to control & ban guns in this country. So not only is the media complicit so are you.
When are you people going to hold your government accountable or are the deaths of foreign children at the hands of your government just National Security issues to you as well? Think your big government will save & protect you & your children from criminals? Go ask any father or mother overseas and you'll hear a completely different story, a completely different set of facts.....you'll finally hear the truth that the news media here in this country does not want you to hear.
Know that our Father in heaven, in his most infinite mercy, had the souls of the children and adults in his most gentle hands before the bullets felled their bodies. He would not allow Satan to let them feel any pain and at that very moment they could see the face of God. This is something so beautiful no human can imagine it. They are safe and in Paradise with the angels and the saints. They are not gone forever and their families and friends will see them again. They still exist, we just cannot see them. They are near. They do not need our prayers, we need them to pray for us for we are the ones left behind in this evil world.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners. Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
Wow. 5 and 6 year olds are dead. Killed by a madman. And you want to offer up this crap? Now? I'm sure their parentswouldmuch rather have their children at home intheirarms then be told that they are "safe and in paradise"! How could you possibly believe there's a god after what just happened? What a thoughtless and idiotic thing to say. Keep your "father"and all his make-believe friends to yourself.
Dear Families,First Responders and Educators,
My heart is broken, the days seem dark, nothing makes sense?
Where do I get Answers? Where do I get Help?
When things seem lost, we struggle, we are angry and mad.
God has a messge that He has given, to help get us thru this past.
"The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the
kid, and the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and
a little child shall lead them." Isaiah 11:6
I truely believe God will bring goodness out of this horrific incident.
My Prayers and Thoughts are with You all in Newtown.
Maybe,
On Tuesday, there will be a noon service at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown for Jessica Rekos.
Maybe because some of the parents of the dead do as well. Maybe it is you who should be silent.
TXHorseman,
I'm sorry, but your 2nd Amendment right guarantees you the right to own all the guns you want, that's your consummate argument here, right? Well I'm pretty certain that the 1st Amendment gives this person the right to question the existence of God, so maybe it is YOU who should be silent. The Constitution does not apply only where you want it to. Sure the comment was insensitive and likely unnecessary, but it's still their right to make it, right? Just like it's awful and insensitive to murder 20 children, but owning the gun was his right, right? Either our Constitutional rights apply all the time, or they don't apply ever. One or the other. I don't like that people have the right to own automatic weapons, and you don't like the fact that this person, as well as myself, don't believe in the Christian God. Tough @!$%# for both of us, because we are BOTH protected by the Constitution to have our respective positions.
It appears that Adam Lanza and Christopher Krumm have a lot in common; Asperger's and being brilliant and deadly. You do not need a gun to kill people; Christopher Krumm proved that. What we need is not gun control, but a complete over haul of Mental Health System in America. No one wants to fund mental health care. No one wants to pay for mental health care. No insurance company wants to pay for mental health care. Funding for mental health care is at an extremely volatile low point. The jails and prisons are full of mentally ill people, because that is our new “sanitariums” since the changes in 1980’s. More “human treatment” meant NO treatment for the mentally ill. People fail to note that you will pay one way or another for the mentally ill. You can pay for treatment, or you can pay for prisons or you can pay with death, but there is going to be a cost. It seems to me that treatment is seriously the best option for society, but society would rather pay for prisons and by death.
Kim i live in utah, im trying to get ahold of my chief of police and have him take enough officers of traffic duty and assign them to every elementry school in his district, money spent better on prevention that response,,,think about it and pass it along
This article is now about the funerals for these small children who went to school one day and tragedy befell them, unspeakable tragedy. What you have in common with most of the other posters is your lack of condolences and sympathy for their families.
Rest In Peace there are no Weapons up there!
The "little souls" are with the Father now. These are "their little bodies" that are being buried. We become a nation not allowing children to see the light, and we kill childhood who got lucky to be born. We gotta change. We gotta start loving.
That's it, NBC. Show us each and every tortured face. Feed us poignant factoids about people we have absolutely no connection to. Dig up their personal lives, roll in them like a dog rolls in garbage, and then come home to us, proudly displaying your stench. Prime the copy cats, so that in a few weeks you have another goldmine, shoveling ad money into your gaping maw.
You have no heart.
All these babies....
rest in peace sweet little children and God be with everyone who lost a child, spouse or friend. I am hurting for these people so deeply, so I cannot imagine what they are feeling. I hope you find some sort of comfort. Oh my...
Blessed be the Angels.....
Rest in peace sweet Angels....
For those people who see this tragedy in political terms it reflects the emptiness of your inner self. Of course you have a pulse and a heartbeat but that is about the limit of your existence.
I think that this tragedy needs to be kept in the media for months and months to come, I think that the polititions need to keep opening the wounds as often as possible, and the people that post on this rag should keep blaming anyone and everyone, anything and everything.(Sarcasim). WTF people let these people greive in peace. Yes it's a major tragedy and these people need time to collect themselves, put yourself in there position.
I'm sure that the parents and people of Newtown prayed every day for their god to watch over their children and to keep them safe from harm. This prayer has been uttered millions of times through the ages, but alas, to no avail. No god was there then and it isn't there today. Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result. You prayed then and you are praying now, but you will never get an answer.
This was a sad and tragic event, but if you want things to change, you're going to have to change them yourself. Stop thinking that your invisible friend in the sky is going to ever be there, and start living your life without the expectation that someone other than you is responsible for your life. Maybe then you will learn to live it differently. A recent quote I read says," DO NOT SEEK GOD IN PLACES WHERE HE IS NEEDED MOST, FOR IF YOU DID NOT BRING HIM, HE ISN'T THERE". All the best to the people of Newtown. I am truly sorry for your loss!
Not the time or the place godless.
If people of faith find comfort in their god(s) then let it be so.
Confused Student: Dear God ,how can you let so much violence in school,Amen
God :Dear Student, I am not allowed in school
Love God;;; and THATS the real problem
Congrats, justme. You just said the most ignorant thing on the board. Not only did you ignore history of school shootings (school shootings happened before 1960's) and that there was also a school shooting in an Amish schoolhouse in 2006 (a deeply religious community), you have also unintentionally (or intentionally) laid blame on the people and the victims' families that these people are dead because your idea of prayer is not allowed in school.
Well let me ask you something then how do you think you were created? Now if you are a atheist I understand. My God that sent his only begotten son on this earth to die for my sins and yours is Jesus Christ our Savior I'm sorry you have an attitude like that because my father which is in heaven's made the most sacrificed that any mankind can make and that is to put himself on across nailed to it and suffer great pain crucified for you and me he is the true God and his true word is in our Bible my Savior Jesus Christ does not bring evil to us this is the work of Satan and his demons God does not bring evil to us what so ever he will allow it but he does not give it when he does come back to this earth yes he will give out his wrath on to the unbelievers that don't believe Jesus was sent on this earth to make the ultimate sacrifice to die for our sins I can tell you personally I was like you not knowing if there was a real God but the more I read the Bible the more I understood what Jesus did for me and why he did it I urge you to read the Bible which is God's word and truth and nothing but the truth and as you read the Bible your eyes your mind your heart your soul will begin to open up and there's nothing like the piece of our living God living in us I can talk to him every day I can listen to him in my heart and my mind and soul he lets me know what is right and what is wrong in the law that is in your body is so hard to understand and tell you experience it yourself God is calling for revival in the United States of America God blessed the USA in order for us to get that blessing back there so much corruption in this's United States of America that the people have gone from the truth and when I mean by the truth the truth of the Bible God blessed the USA and now we have come corrupted so I urge you my friend give it a chance read the Bible starting with the New Testament just three little bit at a time don't rush through it and just say Lord if there is really a God let me see it in your truth in receiving your Bible open my eyes my heart and show me I promise you my friend my Lord Jesus Christ will open your eyes and your heart in a miracle will happen and I tell you this because the spirit lives within me and through me he is talking to you believe and receive my friend God bless you God bless the United States of America may all of us stand up for what we believe looking up to heaven and see in our father on his throne and on his right side Jesus sitting on his right side and in the midst of them the seven spirits of God that came out of the throne of God and he told those spirits go out into the world and preach my word of the truth of the living God that is for ever and ever the beginning and the end hallelujah thank you Jesus and a man praise the Lord
