Up to 12 inches of further snowfall is forecast for parts of northern New England - and a second wintry storm is crossing the U.S. in its wake, according to Weather Channel meteorologist Kevin Roth. The current snowfall in northern New York state and New England will continue through Tuesday night and into Wednesday, with as much as 15 inches possible in some areas.
Meanwhile, another cross-country storm – Winter Storm Draco – was expected to bring heavy snow to the Northwest on Monday.
The higher elevations of the Cascades will see as much as 2 to 3 feet of snow above 7000 feet, Weather.com reported, with significant accumulations below 3000 feet.
The National Weather Service said the probability of “large amounts of snow remains high across the majority of windward facing slopes of the Pacific Northwest and portions of the Northern Rockies.”
King5.com reported that the storm is expected to bring high winds to Western Washington and whiteout conditions to the west slopes of the Cascades and passes.
The system is expected to move to the Southwest and Rockies Tuesday and Wednesday before bringing snow to the eastern half of the country later Wednesday through Friday.
Roth added there would likely be lake-effect snow threat behind the storm on Thursday and Friday.

Breaking news. Snow in December. What next.
Winter Storm Draco, no less. I've always though they should reserve female names for hurricanes, because they are so unpredictable. That would leave male names for winter storms ..... because you never know how many inches you'll get or how long it will last.
OMG, now that was funny! Thanks for the laugh.
I was going to say it's snowing in New England in winter, how is this news, but denver bill 2 cracked me up, thanks I needed a good laugh.
denverb stop trying to belittle a serious weather-event with your locker-room humurs you're not helping at all anyone who's coming on here to try and lear more about how much their lives are about to be thrown into disaray with that crap.
Twelve to fifteen inches of snow? We call that "Tuesday"
If you want to learn how badly your life is going to be disrupted, I suggest the Weather Channel. Or, as my sister calls it, "Farmer Porn."
seriously denverb? There you go again belittling somone's profession that takes years of diligent study and training to attain and comparing it to adult pornography which takes no abilities or training to do. This whole idea of being a part of a responsbile news-community obviosuly isn't working out for you so maybe you should go somewhere else with your negative attitutde. and also the brunt of the storm will actually be on wendesday in most areas, if you had actually read the article you'df probably know that.
ROTFLMAO !! I like that Thanks for the laugh Denver .. . I have CG Alaska and CG Florida set to record on the farmer porn channel right now.
It's called humor. Get to know it. Make it your friend. Otherwise, you'll die of a stroke or an apoplectic seizure long before the weather kills you.
Regarding professions: (1) Do you really believe that everyone who stands in front of a weather map and talks about it has a degree in meteorology? (2) Do you really believe that performing sexually in front of a camera takes no skill? Any profession can be done poorly. Most require a skill set to do well.
If I were part of a responsible news community, I would correct your grammar and spelling. Fortunately, I have no responsibility to take everything on Newsvine seriously.
If you read the headline of the article, you'd know that the subject is weather in New England and the Northwest. And you apparently didn't get far enough into the article to read, "The system is expected to move to the Southwest and Rockies Tuesday and Wednesday before bringing snow to the eastern half of the country later Wednesday through Friday." In fact, it is snowing in the high country now.
if you were just being a joker about it denverb then why did you go on to make reporting about the weather sound like any moron can do it? In fact yes all of those "people who stand in front of screens and talk about thhe weather" do have advanced degrees in the current age and no pornography does not take any skill it just takes wanting to degrade yourself in order to make money which prostitutes do just as well. and yeah the brunt of the storm will hit wednesday just as the article that i was pointing to said so your ignorant statement that it's on tuesday that all of these peoples' lives will be ruined is wrong and you should really stop trying to justify mistakes that you've made right in front of everyone eyes man.
All things considered, it IS a newsflash to have snow in December. Here in middle Illinois, we haven't even SEEN snow since the beginning of last March. And we hardly saw any last year. A little snow the week before Christmas would be welcome! :)
I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with someone who has no ammunition. Have a nice day.
@ Litter Hater. In keeping with the season. Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow. Just couldn't help myself.
@LitterHater You have been flagged for being obtuse. Now, back to my free internet porn!
@litter Hater. Buy any chance, did you eat some yellow snow?
Wow, Snow in the Rockies and New England, a week before Christmas.
What a shock.
WOW!!!! Mary snow is very big news.
I guess it is. My mistake. Now you know why I don't write the news.
The biggest news is the things which affect the most amount of people and since these storms are covering areas where millions of people live then yeah I'd say that it's a pretty significant event and will probably cost some pople their lives so have some friggin respect and stop trying to belittle these major weather-events.
Litter Hater
It's called sarcasm, a type of humor. Sure hope you can comprehend that.
yeah jack thanks I'm familiar with that theory but they are not using it when they're saying that stuff, they honestly believe that a huge monumental snow-storm is not worth the article's place on this website and because of that they show their immaturity and need to be put into their places, please don't join them jack by causing further degredations.
LitterHater:
Don't give yourself a heart attack. Seemed like just a little humor and no disrespect. The only immaturity I saw was by you.
@LitterHater - 3 feet of snow in the West and a foot of snow in northern New England do not a "huge monumental snow-storm" make. Such amounts are nothing out of the ordinary for either area. It's the fact that the media - and you - are attempting to make it appear otherwise that other posters are ridiculing, not the mere fact that the storms are being covered.
@Literhater, you get up on the wrong side of the bed? Three feet in/above 7k in elevation is just wonderful, as the ski lodges need it. People who live and work up there are used to it, same as getting a foot in New England.
It happens every fricking year, or didn't you know that? The majority of people do not live above 7k feet either. And as for costing people their lives, well manure happens if you aren't prepared for winter. But keep being a sour puss, we expect nothing more or less.
logicR you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, that amount of snow is incredibly disruptive and will change the course of everyone's day making it probably the biggest news of the week. Just because you live in boca raton and won't see any effect on your next shuffle-board match doesn't mean that those of us who nature's trying to destroy don't feel the suffering and have to deal with it the best that we can.
and sallyann once again you're way off base as well, I know three people who live above 9,000 feet and they don't feel the same optomism that you feel about this storms because no matter what you say 3 feet of heavy wet snow is not normal nor beneficial to anyone the snowboarding idiots be dmned these resorts can just make artifical snow anyway and everyone will be happy cause it's the same damn stuff.
Naming winter storms? Really? We sure have elevated the significance of natural occurrences...
Perhaps some corporation will want to buy the naming rights..."People are preparing for the worst as winter storm Walmart intensifies in the Northeast."
But can they return it without a hassle? LOL
Gotta love the Drama - er, I mean Weather - Channel. Winter storm Draco? Come on! At least could have went with Voldemort! If you're going to continue naming winter storms, let's at least make it fun - name the next one Groucho after one of the Marx bros. Name the one after that Schmooey after the little boy that Fran Drescher's nanny was responsible for. Also please consider using at least a couple of the seven dwarf's names. Winter Storm Sneezy - LOL. Let's see - Winter Storm LitterHater? Naaaaah!
yeah ray you're a real big and cool tough guy making it seem like these storms are something that don't even phase you. Let's see how you feel though when you have to spend ten minutes shovelling out and clearing off your car and then have to travel at 50 mph on the freeway becuase of the icy-conditions. Yeah you're probably singing a different tune then. And these storms do have to be named in order to bring them more to the public's attention so people need to know how to classify and track them. Saying "just another snow storm coming out of the northwest corridor" doesn't have the same impact as "Hurricane Raysapunk is approaching" obviously.
LitterHater get over yourself 12 inches in New England is nothing and they deal with it very well, I have been there for a real blizzard. The ski resorts will get snow they desperately need for business, the contractors with private plows will get a little Xmas money, and the muffler shops will make money from the salt damage to exhaust systems. Now if you want to see what will be a mess go inside the beltway and put down 12 inches of snow, they're clueless, I was there for the blizzard of 96(how about that it was named) and Marion Barry was mayor , that was a mess. Marion Barry kept packing his crack pipe with snow.
Well LitterHater, you travel at 50 mph on icy conditions, and we will read about the idiot who didn't know how to drive on ice. Anyone who is used to icy/snowy conditions do not drive that fast on the freeways, it's the fricking idiots who do, and then wonder why they crashed. I learned from the day I was old enough to be able to drive, on how to handle snowy and icy conditions.
It may take you longer to get where you are going, but you will arrive safetly, unless someone like you crashes into someone else. Yep, you're the real big and cool studless that lets a little storm bother you. For crying outloud, spend a winter or two in ND or Montanna, or Wy, and then come back here and tell us about this little storm, OK? The midwest is the place where they have real storms, not the coasts so much.
no sallyann it's the people driving on the edge of their seats like you going about 20 miles per hour and still swerving around in your lane and cause the hinderance because unlike you some of us are on a tight schedule and don't have time to follow your snails-pace until the next rest area where you'll inevitably have to pull off in order to relieve yourself because you're shaking and very nervous since you haven't rotated your tires in two weeks and are worried that they might not be up to deal with the snow. And a foot of snow is not "a little storm" it's something that will cost the local economies billions of dollars in lost production, wages, snow removal, emergency crews, etc.. Why not show some friggin curteosy to those of us who have to deal with these "little storms" and have our lives toppled over while you sit in your nice little cabana-hut in the cayman islands and try to preach to us that this is no big deal? Unbelievable ignorance from you
Litter Hater, YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE. Obviously nobody agrees with you so shut the spigot off. This is no major event. It's basically wintertime for God's sake. To use your words: Unbelievably ignorant of you. People are just having fun with headline and that this type of weather is common in these areas at this time of year and you're getting your panties in a wad over absolutely nothing. Good God go smoke a bong hit or something. Lighten up because your comments are nothing short of totally laughable.
Just so ya know LitterChamp, I live on the down slopes of the Northern Rocky Mountain Front in Montana and have lived through the worst that winter can throw. So please - been there, done that, just another day.
Litta hater you might need to get a real life. There are many more things to be concerned with than the winterstorms in the nothern part of the nation. Teachers and students being killed in their school comes to mind. Humor is a way to deal with lifes stresses/issues
Boy, if you're traveling 50 mph on the highway in icy conditions, let me know which roads you're on so I can avoid them. The last storm I went through it took over an hour to shovel out and clear off the car, and traffic was moving at around 30 mph.
Stay safe!!!
wow ken either you're the slowest shoveller ever or your driveway is two miles long because there's no way that such a simple task should be so timee-consuming. And isn't 30 mphs the normal speed that people in maryland travel because they're never in a hurry at one point in their lives even though i have to be in harrisburg in two friggin hours?
Wow LitterHater, if you have to be some where in two friggin hours, with those conditions, I suggest you leave earlier, much earlier. You are a typical flat land driver who doesn't know how to drive in adverse conditions.
But keep up your manure, it makes a good laugh while reading how stupid your posts are.
I can't leave any earlier than that sallyann as if it's any of your business because no one else is going to feed the stray cats if I don't and I'd like to do a load of laundr or two if that's okay with before trying to spend the next three days away from my damn apartment.
Wow Sally Ann. That's what I always say when somebody is right on my ass. If your in that big of a hurry you should have left 10 minutes ago.
I detest snow and winter..
grammie,Me too. That's why I live in California. It was in the 60's today and I can't wait until summer.
I enjoyed the slide show.
The first time my wife ever saw snow was when we were living on offut AFB in NE. She thought it was beautiful then , later after fetching diapers and groceries and such she was less than thrilled.
Some people love the snow, some hate it. If you don't like it, move to a warmer climate. The northern states are famous for their winters and their storms. Same as the mountains, a lot of people work at the ski resorts, and lots of people like to ski or snowboard.
And to do that, yep, you need the snow, the more the better. Plus out here in the NW, the larger the snow pack on the mountains, the better, as most of our electricty is from the rivers/dams. And the more the pack, the better it is for everyone. Don't like it here, move.
I have said that to many a Canadian . I live and (Florida is a right to work state) work in Florida . Home of the newly wed and nearly dead aka Floriduh . Yep , Yankees are always busting our chops . Everything is relevant though , so like sally said...move . Just not to Florida , we are full.
not everone has all of the extra money in the world like you and can just get up and relocate whenever they feel like it sally, some of them are stuck there and have to deal with it and your pedantic remakrs don't help at all.
you know hater you really need to get out and get laid.....There is way too much stress in your life. As far as names go I want to call one this damn strom killed us all.
you know what bill I have way more important things going onn in mine life than having to worry about having meaningless intimate encounters with the random women that you probably glorify on a daily basis so thanks for the idea but I'm not a low-life like that people who would actually go and do that.
Litter Hater go and DO those MORE important things because you're not doing them now with all of your wasted time that you've spent on here today.
Littlehater, you are a nut, when it snows alot I just put on my cx skiis and ski to Dunkin for a nice cup of hot chocholate..
not in this amount of snow you don’t gwhite, unlike you "the media overhypes everything" crowd, dunkin donuts actually listens to the weather reports and closes so that there employees don't have to go into harm's way so unless you're breaking into the stores and making your own coffee they aren't giving your hippy-loving behind crap.
I did not mind snow so bad . Ice on the other hand , when driving or even walking sucks big time.
Change your TAMPON " LitterHater " !! I grew up near California's Donner Pass and 5 to 10 feet of snow in a 24 hour period is not uncommon during major storms, and as you Colorado resisdents know, that much in the Rockies is also common during winter storms. The storm and possible accumulations were reported on the news and people heeded the report and warning accordingly. Like most everything today, including weather reports, much is sensationalized .
Litter (the kitty stuff you spread on the ice) it's weather, GET OVER IT!!! I live in northern Maine, we have snow on the ground from Nov often until late April. We get on the roofs to shovel the snow off. We walk with snowshoes in the snow and clampons on the ice. It often rains a bit and turns the whole place to ice, yes even the roads. It is no big deal, people who live in areas like this are used to it, generally prepared for it and don't get all stressed by it. Sadly it sounds like you do. Go somewhere and meditate...
One more thought litter. You sound like you are practicing to be Sheldon (Big Bang Theory). I think you almost have it down!
The snow looks beautiful if it's viewed from a ski lodge with hot toddy in hand. I've never lived where it snowed and do not want to ever drive in it. Tule fog with zero visibility at night is challenging enough to drive in.
Having some hefty storms for sure, but I have to say Denver Bill 2's posts did bring a smile. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for more here in the Pacific Northwest.
