At 9:30 a.m. ET on Friday, Gene Rosen found a group of children in tears at the end of his driveway after they fled the class where moments earlier their teacher and fellow students had been killed.
Not knowing what was happening at the school, Rosen, a retired psychologist who lives near Sandy Hook Elementary School, took the four girls and two boys into his home, and listened to how they had just run from the their classroom to escape a gunman.
"I approached the kids and I saw something had happened. They were crying. They were all crying, these kids," Rosen, 69, said.
Inspired to act: #26Acts of kindness to honor those lost in Newtown, Conn.
That's when he heard the unthinkable.
"We can't go back to school," one little boy told Rosen. "Our teacher is dead. Mrs. Soto … we don't have a teacher."
He credited his grandchildren -- not his profession -- for helping him deal with the situation and keep the kids calm.
Victoria Soto, 27, was a first-grade teacher killed when 20-year-old Adam Lanza burst into her classroom.
"They start talking about blood, and then they start talking about the two guns," said Rosen.
Over the next few hours gave them toys and fed them snacks.
Funeral directors from throughout Connecticut have come forward to help the grieving town, another example of support that's so desperately needed. NBC's Anne Thompson reports.
Victims in Connecticut shooting: Daring principal, fun-loving teacher, 6-year-old twin brother
He said he had heard the staccato sound of gunfire about 15 minutes earlier but had dismissed it as an obnoxious hunter in the nearby woods.
Rosen said he called the kids' parents, who quickly picked them up.
As a community mourns those who were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting on Friday, children and parents come to terms with the tragedy. NBC's Michelle Franzen reports.
Lone survivor in Connecticut classroom: 'Mommy, I'm OK, but all of my friends are dead'
Mom comes looking for son
Moments later, he got an emotional visit from a mother looking for her son.
"She said, 'Is my boy here?' Then said the boy's name... he was a casualty,” Rosen said.
Still reeling, Rosen hoped everyone could learn from the children who lived through the events of last Friday.
"I want these children's goodness, their absolute goodness, to point us in the right direction,” he said.

"Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads.
If mothers and women can't be more influential with gun laws than the stupid NRA then I guess we deserve our fate.....
Just keep cranking out those hand guns and assault weapons and we are just going to see more and more of this.
BAN assault weapons! Now! All they are for is killing people.
Hand guns should be banned as well. This will be much tougher to do because there are so many of them. They are too concealable and are constantly falling into the wrong hands. Canada does not permit hand gun ownership and their deaths by firearms is half that of the United States. Japan doesn't allow any type of firearm, hand gun or rifle and their death rate is a fraction of Canada's. I am not saying to ban all firearms, just assault weapons and hand guns and you will see murder rates plummet regardless of any social problems causing this. Here are the stats:
Firearm deaths per 100,000 people per year:
USA: 9
Canada: 4.7
Japan: .07
Your loved one might be the next to die. Good luck.
@alan
If you are stupid enough to think they can just ban all guns and it work then you are living in a sheltered sad little state. Look at the drug war. Cocaine, marijuana, etc banned and illegal but does that stop anybody at all from getting it? Not a chance. Considering most people who own guns keep them in their house how would any officer find them were they banned and illegal?
Banning is not the answer. You don't seem to even understand what a semi automatic rifle is compared to a semi automatic assault rifle. The difference? None. They both shoot a single round per squeeze of the trigger.
Before you speak, you should educate yourself a little bit. I know it's hard to swallow what you want to believe in favor or actual facts, but you sound like an idiot spouting off about upright banning anything. Maybe in your fantasy world that would work, but considering the past few days events, we obviously aren't living there are we?
Weapons - How many children need to be killed before you get the point?
No one needs these huge magazine assault weapons in their homes! They should only be used by law enforcement and military.
Get a grip!
If you think for one minute that any gun control laws will be passed in the near future, think again. This is a knee-jerk reaction every time. Its been said before, and I'll say it again. Guns will continue to fall into the wrong hands. Banning them does nothing but keep the criminals happy.
wiseone-If you think for one minute that any gun control laws will be passed in the near future, think again. This is a knee-jerk reaction every time. Its been said before, and I'll say it again. Guns will continue to fall into the wrong hands. Banning them does nothing but keep the criminals happy.
Where do you think criminals get those guns. Besides the ones they buy "legally",they steal them from you and me,law abiding citizens. There are around 500,000 guns stolen here every year. One strong source of guns for criminals.
But we don't even have to guess if gun control laws work to prevent murders. We have indisputable evidence that they do. All western industrial countries have gun control laws, and they ALL have lower murder rates than we do. Our neighbor Canada, the one country in the world most comparable to our own.Has a murder rate less than half ours for all murders (1.9 to 4.8 per 100,000 people). While for gun murders, they had a few years ago,144 gun murders,to 9,396 gun murders here.
I don't think its the evidence linking gun control laws to less gun deaths that supporters of gun rights don't understand. Its that they don't care about the problem. They are so wedded to their desire to have no gun control that it would take their own kids to have been at Sandy Hook for them to change. Its greed, the same reason we can't seem to get anything done for the good of the American people in any issue. There are always some that put their own wants and desires before our country as a whole.

Here is what kills me regaurdless how many bullets are in a magazine, you only need one. The type of gun doesn't matter because once again it only takes one bullet. the washington sniper used a bushmaster Ar-15 with a high cap mag but only shot one time on each of his ten victims. It was a cheap weapon because bushmaster isn't that great of a weapon it is cheaply made compared to the Armalite or the Noveseche. What people are failing to realize its not the weapon that is doing the damage and only banning "assault" rifles isn't going to do anything. You will still see the samethings happen, may not be with an AR but might be with a 30.06 deer rifle which is a larger caliber bullet, and once again it only takes one bullet. I carry concealed with my family and friends in mind because you never know when you will be put in a situation where you just might be the one that stops these massacres. Just like the Movie theatre shooting if one person was holding a concealed weapon it may have turned out diffrerently. We cannot blame inanimate objects for our failures as a society.
The rifle wasn't used. Well maybe that "obnoxious hunter" had one, but he didn't do it.
These kids will never be the same. I just hope they will get all the support they need to cope with this sensless tragedy. God bless the fallen and God help the kids and families who have lost and who came close to loss. The theft of innocence is the cruelest theft of all.
They will be fine! Just tell the little brats to SHUT UP and keep moving! We have many pints of blood in us and sometimes it spills out! Secondly, the worst thing you can do is start talking to them about "god" - maybe you can save some of them early!
Thank you Gene Rosen.
"over the next several hours" he kept them in his house? I hope he notified authorities immediately and appraised them of the children's whereabouts.
More careless writing I'm assuming since the article also says that he called their parents, who came quickly. They post news about 30 seconds after they hear it (second hand), so who knows.
I'm sure it took some time to calm the kids down so they would even say who they were and how to reach their parents. And, I'm sure it took some time to reach the police, who probably had their hands full already.
@Michel I can believe you have the nerve to be the judge in this situation or the back seat driver like one post said .....Have you thought what would have come through your mind at that time? ,because you seem to be very brave and ready for suing ......In stead of portraying this guy as a hero and good hearted citizen especially as a professional.
@Michael, you must be an ambulance chasing lawyer
This story doesn't add up....wondered if he called 911, a professional knows to do this....and what about the other man, a bus driver....did he call the police? But, if it is a true account, Bless him for comforting them in a time of need. These people are in shock from this horrifying ordeal...there are stories that are unbelievable, but, truth is stranger than fiction at times.
How many of us faced with the same situation call the authorities ASAP when you find 6 lost little souls crying in your backyard. I am sure from what this story, he got the children into the safety of his home and got them settled and then proceeded to call their parents to have them come and pick up their children.
Did he proceed in the most appropiate manner none of us can judge because compassion usually comes into play before common sense kicks in. What is important is these children found a safe haven after a brutal scene and they were able to go back to their families in one piece.
I imagine the authorities were also pretty busy trying to help the other kids and so as long as those kids were safe with the guy, they probably couldn't spare the people right away. So calling their parents was the right thing to do.
Wow! Now we are going to have people finding fault with a guy trying to to help in the best way he could? One of the great problems in our society is that there is always a group of back seat drivers who post just to see their user names in print. Must give them a thrill.
@HeadHunter I cannot agree with you more ........
Armed/ really in the school!!
It happens in Israeli school systems. Not saying any teacher should be allowed to just walk into school with a gun, but I think it would be very wise to have a trained and thoroughly investigated security guard on duty at every single school. I'm sure an armed security/police officer present at the school would have ensured the number of injured was nowhere near as high.
Then again, if someone wants to get out and hurt people, regardless of who's around, they will get it done if they really want to.
If wishes were horses then beggars would ride..... we do not know how it would have gone if anyone at the school had a gun. He was firing an automatic weapon - it is unlikely that someone could have gotten to their gun and got off a shot in time. And is that really what you want, your teacher, pilots, nurses, doctors, the guy next to you on the subway, the person walking in front of you all to have guns... what if they miss? what if they hit innocent bystanders? what if they are wrong about that suspicious looking person and kill an innocent? Arming the world is not the answer.
He didn't have an automatic weapon. He had a semi-automatic weapon. And if anyone in the school had a concealed carry weapon, it would have been either a semi-automatic weapon or a revolver - both of which fire at the same rate (weapon fires every time you pull the trigger). If they were carrying, they would have definately been able to get to their weapon - on average, it takes a person with a concealed carry 5 seconds to draw their weapon, aim and fire. If they practice AT ALL, it takes substantially less. It takes me less than 1 second. Your argument is that of a child who does NOT understand what they are talking about.
On the "what if they miss" argument - did you read about the citizen who stopped the Oregon mall shooting? He pulled his weapon, aimed, and saw behind the shooter and chose NOT TO SHOOT becaue he might hit innocent bystanders. The shooter saw him and that he no longer was shooting people who could not defend themselves. The next bullet the shooter fired was to kill himself.
AG for instance....do you have a source for that story about Oregon? You'd think we would have heard ALL about that, which we have not. Just asking.
@shewolf884 - you'r right - the story doesn't promote the agenda we're all suppose to be following - so it's buried - but you can find it - here's a link with the interview:
They won't let me post the link - so google "Nick Meli Clackamas Town Center" and you can find the articles.
Didn't have to look very hard shewolf884
What if! What if! What if!
Your question could be negative or positive! However, if just one person were saved because a resource office managed to get a shot off and kill this idiot we would be singing a different tune.
The fact the government has recently significantly decreased the funsing for education is a contributing factor to this. EDUCATION and safety should be #1 in this country
I am an Oregonian and about 10 miles from the damn mall..
UGHHH I have read that story, it got thrown across my damn facebook.. If you look to see who the original poster of that damn article was, it was a gun club.. Seriously it has NEVER been on our news or in our newspaper about that guy with a gun stopping that dude in our mall.. That is not even remotely close to the story.. The guy they are talking about called to say he had a concealed weapon not to suspect he was the shooter..
It's a damn propaganda article to promote guns.. Sick people are doing that @!$%# in wake of these tragedies.. Sick mother @!$%#ers who shouldn't have guns.. Those are the ones who need mental evals to buy guns.. Who does that, who promotes guns off of still warm bodies because it's their right.. Someone who is mentally @!$%#ing sick..
Sad is people want to believe that crap.. Our cops would have told him to take his ass and hide because they would have probably shot his ass had they seen him creeping around the mall after the killer.. Think about what is wrote and apply common sense..
And btw.. The full intent of a gun is to be used to kill, hurt or maim.. People may be the true killers, but the gun is the tool they use to carry out their purpose..
Calico,
I was not aware that KGW-TV and OregonLive were gun clubs that posted propaganda to promote guns.
Nick Meli made that claim, it was not verfied by anyone else, including law enforcement. More than likely he is full of @!$%#.
@AG for instance... He was a trained and certified security guard. Save your strawman. It's unbecoming even for a gun nut.
Horserider, you need to do a little weapons study before you speak. It was NOT an automatic weapon. And a semiautomatic weapon that happens to look like a military weapon is no different than any other weapon.Pull the trigger once and one bullet comes out. However, the rest of what you say has merit. Bystanders pulling weapons and getting into gun battles is basically dangerous. Regardless of what AG says
Spike post the link to where KGW said he stopped the gun man with his concealed weapon.. Post the link outside the gun club original article.. I followed that article and laughed at where it landed me..
Thank you to this kind man for helping those little ones. I am sure that after what they saw they will have a long road to feeling safe again. God Bless them and everyone in Newtown.
Our media has become a joke, I think they report things just to hear themselves talk, right ,wrong or really just a guess or what they think sounds good and to hear themselves talk, This is, and always will be a sick nightmare that really turned out to be real , they reported two pistols, then two rifles then a school teachers son, who was let in because they knew him, to he shot his way in. He was treated for mental illness to who really knows what? Thank God for people like Gene Rosen, if there is any truth to this story. Also thank God for the babies that made it out alive and pray for the ones and their families that did not, hell pray for all of them, but wait can we mention praying to God since they seem to have removed him from schools and in public places? I guess we all need to take a really good look in the mirror and decide, maybe we should put God back where he belongs in schools and ourselves, we have tried it our way now lets go back to what works.
To all those doubting the veracity of this report, I can assure you that I have known Gene Rosen for several years, and his words are unquestionably true. He is an amazing and dear soul, and those 6 sweet, shaken children from our precious town were blessed to have found his doorstep ....
I feel horrible for the families of those who died, but I also can't imagine what the survivors are going through. They witnessed their friends and teacher being massacred. That's not something anyone just "gets over". I sure hope they all have access to good therapists.
What a sweet guy, everyone should have just a little bit of what he possesses. It's going to be hard on him also.
Please, stop with the theory that giving people MORE guns will solve this problem. I don't want my kids going to a school that has an armed principal and teachers, what's to say one of them wouldn't snap. This kid got these guns from someone who felt that was the answer for her safety, now she's dead as well as 20 little angels and six school professionals. God bless them and their families and my thanks to any and all who came to their rescue, including the sweet man in this story.
Please, stop with the theory that we should all be victims and we should hand over our safety and the safety of our children to someone else. When seconds count, the police are only 5-10 minutes away. If only someone had been allowed to take responsibility for the safety of the children in Sandy Hook.
For those of you who don't want to be responsible for your own safety or for the safety of your children, are you responsible for anything else? Can you cook your own food? Get yourself to work in the morning? Or do you just wait for the EBT to come in every month and go to McDonalds?
The mother was stock pilling !!!!!!!! Food, Water, ECT, ECT,Along with having guns !!!
Waiting for some kind of dooms day !!! ??????????????????
kitty from buffalo--where did you hear that the mother was stockpiling food, water, etc? That's a new one on me--haven't heard of the mother doing that before.
Yes kitty from buffalo is right, she was what is known as a survivalist or a prepper, read more below:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/mother-of-sandy-hook-school-gunman-adam-lanza-was-a-prepper-survivalist-preparing-for-economic-and-social-collapse-say-reports-8422298.html
Having a supply of food, water, fuel, and weapons does not make one a survivalist or a prepper; just prepared. I am sure that a great number of people on the Jersey coast had wished they had done the same before Sandy.
Just buzzwords.
They are not just buzzwords. She was a prepper.
"They are not just buzzwords. She was a prepper."
Definition? A week's supply? A month? Six months?
How much did Nancy Lanza actually have on hand?
Did you not read the linked article? She was talking with her sister about being prepared for when the economy collapses.
Stockpiling Guns, ammunition, food water, and gold is necessary for continued life when the U.S. goes over the cliff into the 3rd world economy caused by OVERSPENDING, borrowing until no other country will loan any more (China), then trying to print enough money to support your overspending. Hope you don't have a variable rate mortgage! Do you know how high your payments will be with 30% interest rates? I will need my guns to stop you from stealing my family's food!
spoken like a true nut job.
Thankyou, Hot-In - Miami !!!!!
@Kitty from Baffalo ....I had read the same thing ,she was crazy lunatic from what I read I believe she was stressing that kid in a unimaginable way .With 289 thousand dollars a year from spousal support and health care covered by the father ,HOW come she could not get help for her brat .She was busy chasing man at the bars with that money ,did you see how many single men came forward as her "FRIENDS " but not one family as of her child friends .You parent is the leader of you child integration in the society not the video games or TV. TOO bad that her behavior riped the lives of so many from their caring valuable parents, that made sacrifices to live in those community for the sake of their children. You wonder why Ryan ahd cur contact with her for the last two years .I feel so sorry for that young men.
Bambi@12 - Please take a course in remedial English.
Hot in Miami--thank you for the link--I did go read it.
I worked in the mental health field for many years. To me, it sounds like the mother inadvertently fed into her son's growing mental illness. In part, that could have been denial on her part--also lack of knowledge and understanding about mental illness. The last thing a person who is psychotic needs is a close caregiver reinforcing their psychosis! It's not necessarily paranoid to be prepared for a natural disaster. FEMA recommends 3 days worth of supplies. I think that 2 weeks worth of supplies is better, due to the hardships we've seen victims of Katrina and Sandy go through, and the more one has beyond the 2 weeks, the more that person can help others who's houses and belongings were destroyed, thus helping until the relief organizations can get there., Again, being prepared is not necessarily a bad thing--it's what you do with it, your general mindset and motivational feelings and beliefs behind it. Being prepared is just a tool, like a car. It can be used responsibly and great good can come of it. Or someone impaired (ex: drunk or high) can cause havoc with it. The only thing that the mother of the shooter accomplished was to contribute to the havoc of her son's mental status, which resulted in the murder of innocent babies and adults, as well as her own death. That she actually took her son Adam to the range, made firearms available to him, was a horrible terrible decision. And she chose to give him a burden he was unable to bear when she unloaded all her worries about the world on him! From what I've read, she knew his brain did not function normally, yet she made those decisions anyway.
Thank you, Gene Rosen, for doing such a compassionate, wonderful deed that we all wish we could have done for those little victims--because truly, those crying children huddled in your driveway are victims too. All of us across America and the world could not be there the way you were but we are there with you and those kids in heart. Thank you!
Thank you MR. GENE ROSEN you are among the heroes in that town ,to console and comfort those precious children in the mist of kayos and confusion.......May God give you PEACE, COMFORT and good health.
I am so glad he was there for those precious children and that he was able to possibly alleviate some of the shock and fear. God Bless you sir - you did exactly the right thing.
God bless this man for taking in these children.
I have seen and read stories from people around the world about what has happened here. This has included a call by democratic political members to do more on gun control. Like many others I have prayed and cried after reading the stories coming out of Conn.
What I have not seen or heard from are the republican political leaders and rank/file members of congress such a Boehner and Vern Buchanan Congressman from Florida. Again I believe it shows us that large tax breaks for the rich trumps what has happened here. The main question is where do they stand on gun control to stop what seems to be getting worse. I guess it all depends on how much the gun lobby has and will give to the republicans to continue the status.
Duane Overholt
Consumer Advocate
Biggotry and hatred to Republicans is NOT needed at this time
Grow Up!
Maybe instead of more gun control we need to stop always cutting funding to mental health care, and education.
That doesnt seem like bigotry to me. This writer is just pointing out the obvious, that anyone who isnt biased can see. Have we heard from them?? NOPE.
And if the Republicans were speaking up then there would be cries from your ilk saying they were politicizing this tragedy. They have chosen (and rightfully so) out of respect for those affected by this tragedy to NOT politicize this tragedy at this time. People like you just make me sick. This tragedy has very little to do with guns. How simple minded can you be!!!! This is about mental illness and the lack of progress and treatments to protest both the severely mentally ill and the people around them. Most mental illnesses are treated with a cocktail of pills that the psych's do not even know how they will effect the patient (trial and error) and so called "talk therapy" from the beginning of time. You cannot talk someone out of being mentally ill any more than you can talk someone out of having diabetes! Stop grandstanding about guns and using this tragedy to push your agenda! The problem is mental illness and lack of appropriate treatments. Geez people look at the real problem!!!
It's difficult for me to see any child now without thinking I should hug them and keep them safe!
Armed guards at Elementary Schools? What have we become?
In Atlanta, we have resource officers at the middle and high schools who are police officers....they are hired by the board of education and a lot of them are retired police officers or officers who left the force due to light disabilites..But they handle unruly or out of control students (esp the ones who bring weapons to schools) school fights, etc..They patrol the halls all day so maybe we could put them in elementary schools as well...It's too bad Newtown didn't have one of these officers in place as they would have brought this guy down quickly before he could have harmed anyone....Maybe all of the school districs in the US school consider this as an alternative rather than arming principals, teachers, etc with guns...
So they *don't* just stand either inside or outside the schl's main entrance & all its other doors, then? They're in any given corridor of the schl bldg at any given time?
Perhaps you need to take that idea up w/ the politicians who repeatedly vote to cut schl funding, want to abolish the fed Dept of Ed, & think evil unionized teachers *can* be replaced w/ just anyone who will work for min wage.
It's like those numbnuts never went to schl themselves & aren't aware that the majority of states require master's degrees for tchrs. We have enough to do w/o becoming proficient in using a machine gun like it's Israel & *normal* is a constant state of war, terrorism, & fear.
Security guards start at min wage, no benefits. You think for min wage anyone is going to want to possibly stand in the line of fire & take a bullet, perhaps die? I don't. Who's going to pay the medical bills if that does happen, w no benefits?
Now if you add in *armed & trained*, plus health ins, what's the going rate? It's about the starting salary for a tchr w/ 2 degrees (which in NYS as a whole avgs under $35K). B/c that's how much we *value* education in the US. But these tchrs shielded their students w/ their bodies anyway, trying to save them.
He would've been shot b4 a potential invader got out of his vehicle. B/c that's what you'd do if you were a psycho bent on a murderous rampage.....take out whoever could stop you so that you could slaughter those who cannot.
Only 7 children survived from those 2 classrms.
One little girl *played dead* lying amongst the bloodied bodies of her tchrs & classmates. Her entire class is dead.
The other 6 did not listen to the tchr as regards lockdown procedure & instead ran like hell straight out of the bldg to Mr Rosen's residence.
Those kids ran on instinct & adrenaline, gambling that the shooter was not going to follow them when he had a cluster of sitting ducks, & winning. They went against the standard of listening to the tchr. Those who did listen, died.
As an educator myself, I've always found that to be a flaw in lockdown. Everyone in the classrm goes immediately to the designated *safe spot* within it. Which makes for one mighty big target *if* it's your classrm that's invaded by a psycho w/ a gun. The odds are against that happening.
Lockdown drills have never taken into consideration the simple fact that glass & locks themselves are no deterrant to a determined psycho. They can be shot out, as we've just seen.
This is supposed to be *the land of the free*, not the land of the fearful.
Once we're all in windowless cement bunkers w/ guns in hand 24/7, the bad guys win.
Schl doors were never locked when I was a kid in the 60s & 70s....& the 60s were arguably one of the most turbulent periods our nation has ever seen, capping itself off w/ Kent State in the spring of 1970, where the armed security turned its weaponry on the students themselves.
As Sandy Hook's signpost said, *Visitors Welcome*....not *Abandon hope, all ye who enter here*.
This lies squarely at Reagan's feet for opening the doors to the mental institutions & throwing away the keys. More guns isn't going to resolve that issue.
Evil teacher's unions are exactly why we have kids having to have oral performance tests. They can't READ! But with first year teachers making $50K (far, far above the average 4 year degree college graduate) and $65K with 10 years experience, unionized teachers are still not held accountable for their student's performance. Every other occupation in the country is held to performance standards.
Are all you gun control people blind? We have a country that borders us who has some of the strictest gun control in the world and how is that working for them, not to good. For those that have no idea, it is Mexico.
The guns come from us so that's pointless we make them then flood them south of the border
We can begin to change the gun laws by screening and monitoring people with multiple guns, particularly those with high powered rifles or high caliber weapons.
I've seen those who stockpile weapons for whatever reason, whether they are gun enthusiasts or hunters. It seems if someone owns a gun they have the intent or willingness to kill, and if they have emotional problems the likelihood of misusing a weapon is greater. There has to be a better method of screening, and this will take courage from gun enthusiasts on non-enthusiasts to act in the best of interests of the general public, especially in light of all of the recent tragedies involving mass murder.
God bless the victims and their families of this horrific tragedy, and all of those concerned.
StageOne, I have high powered rifles and I have multiple guns but that doesn't mean I am going to go out and kill a bunch of people. I have absolutely no desire to go out and kill anyone or anything. I will though if someone comes into my home and threatens to kill me and/or my children. I enjoy going to the gun range and shooting the hell out of a target, doesn't mean I am planning on killing.
Stacie1: We all have to bite the bullet - so to speak - to ensure that mass shootings are put to a halt. If you have children, then maybe you can understand the need here. Unfortunately, that means monitoring people like you who own multiple weapons - but especially those who may have the propensity to use them to harm others. The mother of the killer owned weapons as well, but her son - who was apparently mentally unstable - used them to kill innocent children and school staff. Large amounts of weapons can fall into the wrong hands. So please try to see the bigger picture here...
Gun control will not keep guns out of the hands of anyone who wants to be a mass murderer. Jusk ask the guy selling knives at the local flea market to show you what he has in the van! I can anynomously purchase an assult rifle on the streets for around $3K anytime I want to.
Any act to stem mass murder will count and will make a difference. We need the mindset and action to make every effort worthwhile.
I give Gene Rosen credit for keeping a calm head and taking the kids in and then making the phone calls. It is not exactly what one would expect to hear from little kids...ever.
The focus right now should be on the children - both the deceased and the survivors. For crying out loud they haven't even all been buried yet! Have some compassion. The gun control and mental illness discussions can at least wait until next week.
THANK YOU MIKKI!!!! I don't know why I read the comments because it just irritates the he** out of me. I guess I am too curious. THIS IS ABOUT THE TRAGEDY people that took place and the lives that have been affected!! As Mikki stated, "Have some compassion"
Yeah, that's what gets said every time something like this happens.
Only the *discussions*, once tabled, never seem to materialize as the shock ebbs & the emotions return to normal for all but those affected.
So just when IS the right time? The next shooting, or the next, or the next....?
You do realize there was another attempt at a shoot em up less than 24 hrs after Sandy Hook....right? A gunman shot up a hospital in Alabama.
Less than 24 hrs b4 Sandy Hook, another gunman shot up a mall in Oregon.
The same day as Sandy Hook, a teenager was arrested in Oklahoma for planning to shoot up his HS.
The day after, another guy who lived within yards of an elementary schl in Indiana was turned in to the cops by his own wife for threatening to go over there & shoot it up; he had 47 guns.
WHEN IS THE RIGHT @!$%#ING TIME TO TALK ABOUT IT?
A growing body count doesn't seem to do it.
This is domestic terrorism cultivated to an art form & we're letting them get away w/ it b/c no one wants to talk about it. There's too much goddamn $ to be made to have any serious, effective action taken.
If Middle Eastern guys kept doing this, we'd be coming after them like we did after 9/11 screaming about WMD.
Homegrown American white guys keep doing it, & it's shrugged off as just another day in the USA.
Like some dirty little family secret swept under the rug.
Only Americans are allowed to kill Americans, & in this particular case, slaughter our future.
All tired of paying higher and higher taxes to support the lazy, and not having enough left to buy groceries!
Thank you Mr.Rosen, for watching over those little ones, in their hour of need.
Gene Rosen is a true hero. May God bless you and thank you sir.
Wake up America! The REAL problem here, lies within the mind of those who pull the trigger. Outlawing drugs didn't fix the drug problem. Outlawing guns isn't going to fix the problem of using guns to commit murder. Perhaps it is time for us as a country to look at our social issues, especially mental health. If we are honest we will know that those who pull the trigger are emotionally ill (call it crazy or insane); but anyone in their right mind wouldn't pull the trigger to shoot so many innocent people. I don't know the answer, but we as a country need to find a way to recognize and treat those suffering with mentally ill, who are walking time bombs waiting to create another massacre amongst the innocent. The guns are just a symptom, an ending to the emotional demon living within those who suffer from mental illness
God bless you Mr. Rosen what you did is truly remarkable! A true act of kindness in the midst of a true act of evil.
