Subscribe to RSSMIAMI -- A Hollywood man has been arrested on charges he sexually battered his girlfriend and tormented her by killing her hamsters, police say.
Joseph Gibbons-Nix, 35, was taken into custody Wednesday on multiple counts of aggravated assault, domestic battery by strangulation, sexual assault and animal cruelty charges, records show.
Gibbons-Nix and his girlfriend have lived together as a couple for seven years, an arrest report said. Gibbons-Nix “intentionally caused bodily harm and forced [the woman] by threat to engage in sexual activities against her will,” the report said.
He kept demanding oral sex, to which she didn’t agree, said Hollywood police spokesman Sgt. Lester Cochenour.

When she gave in to his demands, he complained that she was “not doing it right,” and punched her in the head, face and arms, police said. He also bit her twice, the police report said.
The domestic strangulation charges stemmed from the woman’s near-strangulation, police said. She said that her boyfriend several times “strangled her where her airway was completely blocked and she felt she was going to lose consciousness,” the arrest report said.
Gibbons-Nix also told her that her hamsters were “ungodly creatures,” the report said.

He picked up the smaller of the two hamsters and forcefully threw the hamster on the floor, killing it instantly, the report said. He killed the second hamster by throwing it and striking it with a shoe, the report said.
The woman was abused over several days, the report said. But Wednesday, the woman had gotten so worried that her boyfriend would kill her, she told him she was leaving the apartment to get coffee, the report said. She walked to a gas station and phoned police.

As someone that went through a violent relationship years ago, I know how hard it is to get away sometimes. But I did, had to hide out for awhile but I made that step. I hope this poor women gets some therapy to help her make that decision. What a sick piece of crud. :(

If you forgive the first time it becomes an illness called co dependency, I have witnessed it a few times and had to point out to a coworker she was on this path. She looked at me like I was nuts until I reminded her of the first time it happened and I had told her it would happen again. Fortunately she did remember and recognize it, she was separated by the end of the week and divorced within 2 months. She is also very strong mentally due to a rough childhood. I am just glad she was strong enough to get out.

Does anyone have an explanation for why women who are forced to perform oral sex don't just bite down with all their might? I understand being afraid and in an abusive situation, but I'm pretty sure if you bite a man hard enough, he's going to be incapacitated enough to get away. Any thoughts?
Threat of violence, I guess. I have heard assault stories where women have been forced at gun-point. I would just say "I'll bite, and you can kill me, but you're still going to be without your favorite organ."

Alright, too true. In the moment, when being threatened, it is extremely hard to do. You do what you have to to get out safe. That's the hardest part, getting out safe, especially if there are children involved.

Also contrary to what Rush Limbaugh says, nobody is proposing that the government takes guns away from owners. The woman in this story chose to remain with this dung heap for seven years. He obviously has a screw loose. Throw him in jail for a few years and never permit him to be near pets again. I feel sorry for the hamsters but not the humans in this story.
Clearly you've never been in an abusive situation (lucky), or are privileged enough not to be close with anyone who's been battered either (lucky again.) That or you haven't bothered to educate yourself on the psychological effects of an abusive relationship.

She did what everyone in that situation should do if they can not fight back on the spot. She made an excuse and got the heck out and got some help. Over all, this seams to be a happy ending.
