Three New Jersey police officers are in the hospital after being shot inside a police station by a man being processed for a domestic incident. MSNBC's Thomas Roberts reports.
The gunman who shot three officers after a "violent struggle" at a New Jersey police station early Friday is dead, officials said.
The suspected shooter had been brought into Gloucester Township Police station for a domestic incident when he got into a confrontation with officers, reported NBC's Philadelphia affiliate, NBC 10.
"A violent struggle occurred while the suspect was being processed," Deputy Chief David Harkins said. The man was able to grab a gun and then opened fire.
One of the injured officers, who was rushed to surgery after being shot below his bulletproof vest, is listed in stable condition. The other two were treated for graze wounds and released.
The shooter was killed by police during the confrontation, according to Chief W. Harry Earle. The investigation was ongoing.
Gloucester is located in central New Jersey, about 15 miles outside Philadelphia.

Plenty of good guys with guns. NRA will have an explanation by next week no doubt.
Whats your stupid point? Some how this is the NRAs fault? Where do you trolls come from?
Didn't even bother to read the story did you ? You just saw " Gun " in the headline and went crazy.
What??????
He grabbed the cops gun.
Just like the Secret Service with all their guns didn't prevent Regan from getting shot.
It's now 8:27 AM CST.
From reading the comments on this story it's apparent that either most of the people commenting didn't bother to read the article or this is the 2nd or 3rd update on the story.
Since this is NBC news, I'll go with this being the 2nd or 3rd update. NBC is well known for reporting first and getting the facts later (if at all). On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if most of those posting comments only read the headline and came to their own conclusions.
In defense of all internet news, they constantly get ths stories half wrong in order to report it first. The problem with NBC news is that you rarely get the whole story for days, if ever.
Right like this is some how the NRAs fault.
The man wrestled the gun away from a police officer...The police officer was shot by this wacko with a cop's gun. NBC is trying to use this story for more of their anti-gun propaganda..it doesn't fly.
This man was able to get the gun away from a TRAINED police officer in a police station and shoot the cop!! But the NRA wants to arm teachers and give them three hours of training...REALLY!!!
He died for his act didn't he? 26 people and children didn't have to die before he was stopped and he was stopped by a gun and bullet! REALLY!!!
Ann Marie...The cops no doubt were careless, and didn't follow proper procedure. Armed security is a proven method of prevention and an effective deterrent, where gun bans are proved to have failed in the prevention of anything...Think outside the liberal box.
An Marie too bad you don't have facts, the fact is the NRA was armed police officers in schools. Where I live this is a reality. Get a clue before you go off.
Lets leave it to the media to publish every story they can now find about the illegal(hence the word illegal,as they all were) use of guns and wave their flag.I bet if they ran all the sories of people being beat with hammers and baseball bats we'd have to ban those too. What a bunch of liberal crap.
These anti-gun nuts see the word (Gun) and get all wet in the pants ready to blame the NRA.
Even the cops can't keep guns out of "criminals" hands or are safe in their armed station. All the more reason to own your firearms, it is up to you and only you to protect yourself, your loved ones and your property. NO GUN CONTROL laws WORKS IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM.
Thank goodness they killed him. if he had lived he probably would have tried to sue the police, or we would have to pay for his time spent in jail.
Cheers to the "good guys"!

WASHINGTON — Marking the first anniversary of the shooting deaths at Columbine High School, President Clinton announced $120 million in new federal grants Saturday to place more police officers in schools and help even the youngest kids cope with their problems
What you libs think of this idea slick willie had in 2000?
Good! Processing COMPLETE!
Must be some Liberal conspiracy to add to the profits of all the Conservative gun and ammo manufacturers
who are owned by the Conservative Corporations who also own the Conservative Media.
Liberal,Conservative, Democrat, Republican, Red state, Blue state ?
B.S. the more hype the more profit. I bought gold low before the housing market crash and sold high.
I wish I would have bought gun and ammo stock after Sandy Hook ?
I had my 5 year old Grandson on my mind and got distracted.
That second amendment cliché again...
Cops responding to just another 'family beef' know those calls can be the deadliest. And there's nothing routine about them. Any and all law enforcement is never to take it goo casually. Drop your guard and it'll bite you in the a$$. - One less mutt.
It a complicated issue as to what is happening to our society. First everyone whats everyone else to behave as they direct. We have a law for just about everything. Also we have created a culture of not only violence, but more work, more hours, more production etc. I see people everywhere who dont have a home life. I think the robots are blowing their fuses.
Seems like cops are ex-baptists preachers...what size pants do you wear asks the uniform requisition clerk...size 56 by 28 replies the new cop...striking up a conversation, the clerk asks the new cop why he quit being a preacher and decided to be a cop...the new cops says I got tired of threatening people with hell and decided on a more direct approach...plus there's more time to eat...
Thank goodness the pathetic pos is dead!!!!
The point is this...Crazy people do crazy things. He was arrested without a gun, he was taken downtown without a gun, and he was being booked "without a gun". Crazy desperate people will do anything beyond our thinking.
With a gun or without a gun this man was crazy. (obviously from what he done) Does anybody out there think he was just a sane everyday person? It is a shame he was able to take the officers gun away from him/her and inflict violence. As I have always stated, "crazy people do crazy things".
I have a concealed permit to carry and I do on most occasion. I dont drink and drive, dont do drugs and if a person cuts me off in traffic, turns around and "flips me the bird" I dont become enraged ready to take things into my own hands. Getting even is not that important to me. From the hostility of some of these post......we have alot of crazy people!!
Dam, all these gun nuts are so, so insecure. I gotta have my guns and bullets. Gees. Makes me LOL. Like little boys with their little toys. Again nothing more than wanna be Rambo's. LMAO
Damn, all these anti-gun nuts seem so secure. I don't need guns and bullets. Gees, makes me wonder...
how would they be able to protect their family if a criminal tried to harm their family?
Fox News and the NRA declare the deceased as mentally disturbed. The perpetrator's name has not been disclosed by the authorities yet.
Wow, as this story develops, we start to see the police Fkd up REAL bad. There is no way in the world, a trained police officer loses his firearm to a suspect already IN CUSTODY!!
Shame on these "good guys" Bad move, bad police work, not a mistake but a gross dereliction of duty.
They need to send these boys back to the Academy. Or, maybe they should just give them unarmed desk duty FOR LIFE! They'll probably get a lifetime pension on the taxpayers dime, and folks will say they were "wounded in the line of duty" BS.. they simply blew it.
Enact a $1000 tax on every gun........anyone caught not paying goes to jail.
That could lower everyone else's taxes and payoff the deficit.
or
set up off shore prisons in China and let the Chinese deal with our criminals their way.
Sheesh! I came on here to see if anybody among the gun lovers had gotten any kind of a clue from this tragedy. I didn't even get halfway through the first page of comments to see that no, they are as ignorant as ever. If anybody is going to turn this into a 3rd world country it won't be President Obama, it will be the NRA and their gun loving, survivalist idiots who do it with their belief that everybody should be armed and there shouldn't be any more regulation. What a sick, sick country this has become!
Why is it always blamed on the fact that a person was killed with a gun and not the fact that the person could be on drugs, crazy, gang related, etc, etc. We live in a world where people are expendable, where it's okay to do what you want, where kids are taught it's okay to screw up and we'll bail you out, where kids are expecting to receive something they didn't deserve and also where people do not have respect for others anymore (not all of course). We live in a world where children and adults watch violent movies, talk like they see people talk in the movies (I'll kick his butt, etc), that play violent games where the object of the game is to kill police. Why don't we realize that this society has gotten worse? We don't want to think that way, but it's a fact. I hear children (young and adult) speaking to their parents in a way we would never have been able to speak. Do we not realize this "can" lead to out of control people? Something happens, they snap. Taking away guns won't solve that because most people intent on getting a gun, will get one. Taking away my right to have one in my house to protect myself is not the answer. Are assault rifles needed? No, but strict gun control won't change people's minds. Many years ago, kids even took rifles (or shotguns) to school in their cars and we never heard of these type of shootings. It's not the guns, it's society.
