A Southern California teenager who was fatally shot while handcuffed by police last Wednesday was armed during the incident, a police spokesperson said Monday.
The suspect, later identified as Lamon Khiry Haslip, 18, died Friday night.
Haslip’s friends and neighbors, including Pastor Caleb Henderson, have admitted that Haslip was a gang member, but contest the way in which he was killed.
"No one should be shot, handcuffed with hands behind their back," Henderson said.

Byttany Haines and her boyfriend Daniel Aguilar said they saw the deadly incident up close.
"He didn't move; he wasn't screaming; he didn't try to resist; he was handcuffed," Aguilar said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s office told NBC4 that a deputy chased down and arrested Haslip while responding to a "man with a gun" call. When backup arrived, the office said Haslip "rolled over" and revealed a gun.
Haines said that’s when deputies started screaming for the teen to “get down.”
"And you hear one shot and he doesn't move after that, you know he’s dead," Haines said. "I started screaming, I cried and I just kept yelling, 'Call the news, you guys can’t just do that to people.'"

Aguilar said the incident was disturbing.
"I felt like crying you know because I never seen anyone get popped like that," Aguilar said.
Anita Morris, Haslip’s aunt, said the man’s father is in prison and his mother lives out of state. Morris said she always believed Haslip would turn his life around and is devastated he won’t get that chance.
"I like him to be remembered by his smile," Morris said.

Being from Chicago where gangs are a MAJOR problem, I have no compassion for their members. However, this is SUPPOSE to be a country of laws. How is it legal for a cop to shoot and kill ANYONE that is handcuffed and unable to do anything untoward?
I've always said cops believe they are above the law and that they are some of the lowdown, dirtiest, pieces of trash in this country. They wear a badge, have a gun and believe it gives them a license to kill, and particularly to kill black males, innocent, professionals, or gang members, doesn't matter to a cop just as long as the person in question is a black male.
I am livid. They should be FIRED immediately, NOT SUSPENDED WITH PAY pending an investigation, as well their pensions should be revoked. Enough already!

Perhaps you missed the news lately, but there have been two suicides in the last few months where the individual shot him self, while handcuffed, in the back of a police cruiser. If someone can shoot them self in the head while handcuffed they can shoot a cop.
Black male + gang member + gun = dead black male.
The cops should be investigated, and when cleared given a commendation.

Though the shooting sounds inappropriate, who in their right mind would want to be a freakin gangster, that's like the lowest prong of the ladder of society. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. In reality, the guy has probably done his own share of killing on the streets. Nuff said?
A very good example of why everyone in America EXCEPT cops should have guns . This is sarcasm of course , but my point is the government , whether they are law enforcement or military , or any other kind of agent should NOT be the only armed Americans . The right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED , and with very good reason .
So the answer is more out of control private vigilantes to shoot more out of control gang bangers, with more collateral damage among bystanders?

Once you become a gang banger, you've lowered yourself to becoming a target for the police. Think of what the definition of a gang banger is " A danger to society"
This article leaves out a lot of information that I would like to know. Where did they come up with the names Lamon and Byttany, are those family names? Why can't that young man speak proper English at 18 years old: "I never seen anyone get popped like that". Shouldn't it be "I've never seen anyone get shot before". And have some compassion for your best friend. "Popped". Really? It seems so insensitive. Haslip's father is in prison. How many children does he have? By how many different women? How many of them are in gangs or in jail? Does Haslim himself have kids? I'm sick of these low life scum bags reproducing at the alarming rate that they are and then taking no responsibility, accountability, etc for bringing children into this world. They choose the path that they take and they are a complete burden on society -- no positive contribution whatsoever. And the answer? Let's just raise taxes to pay for social programs, prison guards, etc because some gang banger chose to have five kids with five different women. I'm so sick of this crap. Hopefully the police officers were black so that Sharpton and Jackson can't scream racism. Of course then the poor cops will be Uncle Toms. Here is a noble idea -- let's start taking responsibility for our actions in this country; let's worry about productive citizens and their rights instead of the mooches, criminals, etc. Happy New Year!
Put hands behind your back as if they are in handcuffs. Now see how far you can reach around. I am not very limber and I can easily reach hip to hip. Put a gun anywhere in that range and you are a threat. My guess is he deserved to be shot.

Normally, I would say how pathetic this situation would be....armed police officers shooting a guy with his hands handcuffed BEHIND his back! Apparently, there was a suspicion that he might be a magician or a British spy! Now that it's been made public that he was a gang member.....justice was served! One less idiot the mexican cartel can recruit unless, of course, they were already successful.
