Maryland first-grader suspended for pointing fingers at friends, saying 'pow'

A Maryland first-grader has been suspended for pointing his fingers like a gun at school.

The boy, a student at Roscoe Nix Elementary School in Silver Spring, was suspended for one day. The incident happened a week after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The family's attorney says the 6-year-old was playing with friends, not making threats.

"Evidently, he was pointing his finger at someone and saying, 'Pow,'" said Robin Ficker, an attorney for the family.

The boy's parents were scheduled to meet with school officials Wednesday.

The school system will not comment on individual disciplinary matters. But they did issue a statement detailing their typical procedure with younger students.

"Generally, in an incident involving the behavior of our younger students, we will make sure that the student and his family are well-informed of any behavior that needs to change and understand the consequences if the behavior does not change," said Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Dana Tofig in a statement.

Yup, this isn't really news. They threatened this all the time when I was in elementary back in the 90s. Femenazis get their tinfoil panties in a bunch. Little boys have been playing gladiator and crusador since the dawn of little boys, yet they think that this normal behavior means that the kid is going to grow up to be a murderer or a ganster or somthing? Even though they'll be cuddling with mom as soon as their done.

I know when I was growing up in the late 60's and 70's we were allowed to use our finger as a gun. Funny, we grew up ok. I don't own a gun, but I still own my finger. Now, I just use a different finger.

The way kids behave in public schools today this is the least of the school's problem. So I suppose you can give someone the finger as long as you make no sound with it?

Play? This is not about play - this is about wrong-thinking. The parents and child will be re-educated to eliminate wrong-thinking. So orders the Ministry of Truth.

This disgusting piglike man, after being dry-humped by Obama during that big hug, should not be allowed to call himself a Repubican, let alone a true American. He is the one on whom shame should be dumped, and he knows it. He is finished in politics, at least as Republican. He should move over to the democrats, where the girlie men go!

It's time to take the literary device, onomatopoeia, out of the language arts curriculum! I knew figurative language would bring us down someday.

It appears the student has a better grasp on reality than the school administration. I think the principal and the superintendent ought to be fired for terminal stupidity.

I'd sign that petition! (Although I would need to sure of the offending parties - the article doesn't woute the superintendent.)

This is a pivotal event. It marks the moment when we officially became a chicken-sh!t nation.

Suspend students making threats? That is common sense.

Investigate facebook statements promoting or planning violence? Yeah, I'm cool with that.

Tighten existing gun laws? Tough to do politically, but I'd vote for it.

But suspend a six-year-old child for engaing in a fake gun shoot-out? Completely ridiculous.

I wonder what school administrators would do if they were sent back to the 1960s or 1970s, when fairly real-looking toy guns, were huge items at Christmas, and almost every boy between 6 and adolescence played at being some sort of gun-shooting, action hero.

                              Unbelievable, yet true.

Clearly the kid did absolutely nothing wrong. He said "POW", he didn't say "BANG". If he would have said bang then he clearly should be disciplined. Cause only toy guns go POW! real guns go BANG!. he would have been simulating a real weapon if he said "BANG"

I blame the liberal democrats and pot-hippies of the 1960's. Obviously some victims of serious long-term drug use made that decision....

You can blame the liberals if you want Zod, but it was when the extremely conservative left broke down the barrier between church and state and demanded that everybody who spit less than 10 feet be branded for life. Why don't you write your senator and see if you can get this kid made an example of? Maybe that will keep you busy enough to keep you off this page.
