Subscribe to RSSA worker in the Connecticut Medical Examiner's office has been accused of letting her husband look at the body of Newtown gunman Adam Lanza, a state employee with knowledge of the investigation told the Associated Press.
Jean Henry, a processing technician, was placed on administrative leave Dec. 21 so the allegation can be investigated, the official said. The employee spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the inquiry was under way. The investigation was first reported by The Hartford Courant.
Gov. Dannel Malloy said he will be "deeply disappointed" if investigators from the University of Connecticut Health Center verify that Henry engaged in such ghoulish behavior. "I hope that was not true. The investigation is ongoing," Malloy said.
Lanza's body was brought to the morgue in Farmington after he committed suicide at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he murdered 20 first graders and six staffers on Dec. 14.
Two days after the massacre, Henry allegedly led her husband into her workplace and led him into the refrigerated room where bodies are kept until autopsy. They allegedly unzipped Lanza's bag so they could look at the body of the reviled gunman, sources told the Hartford Courant.
Henry's boss, Chief Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver II, performed the autopsy on Lanza. The gunman's body was later claimed by his father.
Carver did not return calls and Henry and her lawyer could not be reached for comment. She is embroiled in a lawsuit against Malloy that claims the Democratic governor had her bounced from her old job in the budget office because she is a Republican.

Seems like everyone so far has the same opinion that I do... So what? Why does an accident in the northbound lane of a freeway also slow the southbound lanes to a crawl? Because people want to see the wreck in all its gory details! They even have a term for it (a "gapers block").... People just seem to have a morbid curiosity. Google "Lincoln in his casket" and you will see that someone snuck a camera in to take a picture of Abraham Lincoln lying in state in 1865.
So she showed him. Big deal. I bet most every medical examiner (if they are honest) has done something similar. Now if they had taken pictures and put them on the internet it would be a different story, but this is much ado about nothing. Time to move this story offline as a yawner.

Desecrating his body in public would have zero effect on future mass killers. That would mean they were thinking somewhat rationally and that's not how the mind of such a person works. Try and show me anyone who has committed any such act that was "rational"? Good luck with that one.

Future killers never get discouraged. If they did the death penalty would work. But, it doesn't. Lanza himself was barely a boy himself. I was struck by how one of the fathers of a little girl who was killed by Lanza expressed his condolences to Lanza's father during a press conference. Now, there's compassion that few of us could muster.

First of all, not a single authority has come out and said unequivocally that Adam Lanza was the shooter nor have they stated the nature of his death. Only the mainstream, Zionist owned news media are extending that hypothesis and so many of you have fallen right into the witch hunt. Actually, I suspect I would feel even more strongly if it were my loved ones. The only way to prevent this in the future, in a country as rife with guns are we are intent on being, is to seriously assess and advance our mental health assistance/protections in this country.
The reason there are so many 'crazies,' is that nobody is doing anything to help the 'crazies.' Parents, even wealthy educated parents, don't know who to turn to, how to get help for their children who are obviously not 'right.' Then think about all the adults who are similarly afflicted, with no one to tell them they need help, no way to pay for it, no way out.

There are policies and procedures about these things for a reason. How would all you "let someone violate the rules because he was scum (which we all agree he was)" crowd feel if someone took a photo of, say, your deceased mom's vagina and then argued because it was not an offense meriting discipline in THIS case, it should not be in yours?

The lady allowing her husband to see the body shouldn't be treated as anything more than a minor infraction and shouldn't even have been newsworthy.
On the other hand,the body should have been donated to science with perhaps a guarantee to the remaining family members that the body's ultimate disposal would not be made known or accessible to the public.
It would be good for the father to tell the authorities whatever he knows about his son and his life with his family until their separation. Also was the separation caused by disagreement between the parents as to how to deal with the son?

Not sure it's worth losing a job over, but I'm sure it's not "no big deal" for someone who works there. I expect there are all kinds of rules for those who work in this type profession.

They put procedures in place to protect everyone. Now the question becomes if she showed him one who and how many others has she shown. What if a body is evidence in a murder trial? Great way to get the evidence thrown out. Just say she showed that body to people too and so the evidence is compromised. I am assuming that she probably had to sign documents in regard to procedures and the loss of job if those procedures are violated. Not sure if some of this fall under HIPPA as the person's cause of death could be considered PHI.
Human beings are curious. I'm sure protocols were broken, but this is one of those situations where news of the crime is more harmful than the actual crime itself.
Now the woman gets to sit home and collect a paycheck without having to go to work. I wish I could get "punished" like that. Her current lawsuit practically ensures she won't be fired. Now the people of CT have to pay 2 people to do the job of 1 person.
They should have kept this situation internal, reprimanded her heavily, and then demanded that her butt be at work bright and early the next morning.

I they don't fire her, the taxpayers may be paying much more. Consider the cost of retrying any criminal cases that used evidence from the M.E.'s office when defense attorneys file appeals questioning if evidence could have been tainted.
Can't you hear a Defense Attorney in court saying: "Your Honor, if the M.E.'s Office was unable to maintain security of the remains in a high profile case such as Mr. Lanza'a, it raises serious questions as to whether we can rely on the evidence from that office which was used in convicting my client". . . .(and so on). That's why this certainly IS a big deal and why the M.E.'s Office was correct in making this public and immediately suspending this employee.

On that note, I recommend everyone see the movie Beautiful Boy. Paints a very vivid picture of what life is like for the family of the shooter after the fact.
The morgue is not for "sight-seers" unless her husband was identifying a recently deceased family member himself, he had no business peeking into ANY body bag.
I understand that people feel that because Adam Lanza is a monster, it doesnt matter that protocols/rules were broken. However, now she has just opened up an opprtunity for the Lanza family to sue and say their deceased family member was not treated appropriately. Not to mention she has risked her career and professional reputation.

Jean Henry's and her husbands' actions were inappropriate which I believe should cost her that job.She is not to be trusted any longer and her behavior towards the deceased is not acceptable.

Wrong, Robbie.... At that point, the body had not been autopsied. Therefore, it was unprocessed evidence in a criminal investigation. Doing anything with the body...even if it is only bringing it out of the cooler to peek at it is tampering with evidence. That could mean charges up to and including obstruction of justice. This foolish woman will be lucky if all she gets from this is fired....
With the way the public feel, if any attorney and relatives of that MONSTER try to sue the state for this will probably get a bullet in the head.

Could be considered tempering with evidence. Also morally out of respect for the family. If the family wants him displayed they would of had an open casket funeral. I am not defending him I am just stating some reasons why this is an issue. With any type of medical autopsy that involves a crime this is a big no no.

Waste of tax dollars unless it is being done by a hospital as a learning tool and to research brain disorders or any anomalies in the body.

Protocols and procedures controlling access to morgue are designed to maintain evidentiary integrity of Medical Examiner's findings. She violated this - she should be gone.
I have no idea whether her current lawsuit has any validity, but if this situation is any indication of her judgement, professionalism and maturity - seems like there may have been plenty of reasons an employer wouldn't want her in their organization.
Why is firing someone always the first response? How about a talking to and perhaps a demotion? So you should get fired for a mistake you made at work. I hope you are never in a position where that is true for you!
There are situations where you don't get a "do over" because there are bigger, more serious issues at stake. IMO this is one of those situations. Just like you don't get to let a non-employee or non-authorized person in the pharmacy area of a hospital; or in the area where you process forensic bucal swabs, etc.
This wasn't a convenience store employee who let a friend loiter or step behind the counter into the stock room in spite of the rules.
This was the Medical Examiner's Office. Homicide, suicide and suspicious death investigations take place there and evidence is collected and evaluated. There are very serious, legal decisions made based upon what is generated out of this place. An employee doesn't get to play around to satisfy her husband's and her morbid curiosity.
And yes, I've been in situations where people have been terminated for less. . . where one unlocked door led to job loss.

This is the kind of work environment where there are protocols and standards when you START working there. She simply showed that she has no problem disregarding those standards.

It doesn't matter who Jean Henry allowed her husband into the refrigerated room to see. It doesn't matter if it was Adam Lanza, John Doe or one of Henry's own deceased relatives.
I'm sure there were more bodies in that room than just Adam Lanza's. Would it have been alright for Jean Henry to show her husband the body of a woman who was beaten to death by her husband? Would it have been alright for her to show him the body of a man who had died in a horrible car accident? Has she in the past? Would she again had she not been caught the next time another case that was "interesting" to her or her husband came along?
The fact of the matter here is that Jean Henry knew the protocols and procedures of working at the medical examiners office from the minute she was hired. She knew the sensitive nature of the work she was entrusted with every day and she knew that she was breaking those protocols and procedures and doing something very, very wrong by leading her husband into the facility and to the refrigerated room. But, for whatever reason, she took it upon herself to completely disregard those protocols and procedures to satisfy her husbands curiosity, her own or both. She put herself and her husband above all else and, yes, there is something wrong with that.
The very fact that an unauthorized individual was in a secure room where he had no business being has jeopardized any potential ongoing criminal cases housed there. There's a little thing called "contamination" that can make or break a criminal case. For example: say for instance a few hours before this tragedy had happened a guy had walked into a convenience store, robbed it and shot three people in the store before fleeing. He was caught later that evening and taken into custody and the bodies of the victims were being housed at the morgue for autopsy. It is critical that the names of every single person who comes near those bodies is known. If when the M.E. does the autopsy and finds physical evidence that he cannot link to anyone else in the store, their loved ones and friends they might have had contact with around the times of the murders or to the suspect in custody, there's a big hole in the prosecutions case. Turns out, there is a hair that somehow transferred from Mr. Henry to one of those innocent murder victims because Jean Henry was careless enough in her job to think she was above the same protocol and procedures the rest of her co-workers maintain. Jean Henry just created enough reasonable doubt to set that guy that robbed a convenience store and murdered three innocent people free to do it again. If one of those three people had been your husband, son or parent would that have been alright with you just because this woman was satisfying her and her husbands morbid curiosity?
In my opinion, she deserves more than just being fired for this. She needs to be prosecuted for her stupidity and lack of good judgment. This issue has nothing to do with Adam Lanza. It has everything to do with someone who has tainted this medical examiners office and every single case they have worked while she has been an employee there. If she has broken one rule, chances are she has broken others. Yes, that is something very serious, very newsworthy and very worth an extensive investigation.
Are you trying to excuse this conduct by calling it a mistake? She didn't make a mistake. She intentionally allowed her husband to view a body in the morgue. This wasn't an inadvertant act, like hitting the wrong button on your computer. She knew what she was doing and deserves termination...
