Police: Man kills grandmother over what to watch on TV

Suffolk County Police Department / AP

Clarence Newcomb, 25, was arrested early Friday after telling police that he killed his 82-year-old grandmother.

A 25-year-old New York man was arrested Friday after he told police that he killed his grandmother following a debate over what to watch on TV.

Clarence Newcomb, 25, called 911 at 4:35 a.m. Friday. Arriving at the home in Kings Park, on Long Island, where the two have lived for years, police found 82-year-old Kathleen Newcomb lying dead in the living room.

Clarence Newcomb told police that he physically assaulted her and did not use a weapon.

He has lived with his grandmother since he was 3, according to a police spokesman. There was no history of domestic violence, the spokesman said.

As for the shows that sparked the argument, police don’t know.

Clarence Newcomb was supposed to be charged by the district attorney on Friday, although that was delayed when he was sent to the hospital with several health concerns, according to the police spokesman.

You're probably in sympathy with this mindless dolt. You actually think there is a possible justification for killing his grandmother? You're as sick, twisted and demented as he is.

This should make it obvious that we need to outlaw TVs.

There are a lot of big guys in prison who loves his own grandmother. They're going to have fun!! Punishment is too slack. If he had known he could be sentenced to 20 years of daily azz whippings tied to a wall before each meal, things would've been different. That can't be because they have more rights than any man.even after crimes like these. They can even file a lawsuit. This criminal justice system is jacked.

And i bet the boy was treated for that A.D.H.D. thing that blew up during the W Bush era. Pharmaceutical's Gone Wild!! Should've been a DVD. There's no telling what meds he took as a child. I think that people who commit violent crimes should,at the time of the offense, forfeit all rights so they can in turn become victim. This would give them a lot to think about before the crime. All these Pharmacy babies are growing up and some even got guns. Look out America!

This story must be fiction. Their are no programs on TV anymore, worth while getting into an argument over.

He looks like your typical video gaming, fat couch potato and loser. He should have killed himself. Nobody would miss him, except maybe his now dead grandmother, who if she were alive, probably wouldn't miss his lame, mooching, unproductive carcass either. Take him out in the woods, double tap him in the head with a .44 Magnum, and leave his filthy corpse for the crows to pick over.

I think we should give every person in the US their own TV. To deprive people of watching cartoons is moronic. I think the TV should be at least 48" and 3D and if they live on the streets they should be given a place to mount it.

Chances are if he didn't kill someone over the TV it would have been something else.

Let's not rush to judgement. Maybe she was watching The View or The Talk. This could be justifiable homicide.

Your miserable failed attempt at making a joke about the death of an innocent woman at the hands of her demented grandson has been duly noted. Please do not make any further attempts at making light of this.

When televisions are outlawed, only outlaws will have televisions. The inane drivel and garbage on television is enough to drive anyone bonkers.

Probably arguing over what violent TV show to watch.

We need to pass more laws banning the use of one's fists and make it illegal to beat your grandmother.

Why does anyone need two assault fists, or such large high capacity ones?

Fist registration and TV registration need to enacted in this country.

Health concerns? Give this mutt the needle and put him down. Just what the State needs, another free loader given 3 hots and a cot for life. Oh well, maybe some of the inmates turn out to be granny lovers.

She wanted "The Simpsons", he wanted "Family Guy". Clearly, "Modern Family" would have been a better fit for the both of them...
