San Francisco Police Department
Dexter Oliver, 22, is suspected of attempted murder of a San Francisco woman.
A day after his girlfriend was set on fire in San Francisco, police and the U.S. Marshal's Service Task Force arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the fiery attack.
Without giving away too much detail, San Francisco police said they "received information" about Dexter Oliver's whereabouts, and arrested him at a hotel in Oakland. He surrendered without incident, police said. He was taken to San Francisco and was booked on charged of attempted murder and arson, police said.
Police say that on Sunday, Oliver allegedly threw flammable liquid on his 25-year-old girlfriend - Starr Lamare - and set her on fire, sending her to the hospital with severe burns.

"She said he had to get out and they were over," Lamare's sister, Precious Craig told NBC Bay Area on Sunday night. "And she left the laundromat and ten minutes later, she was burned."
Family members said that Lamare and Oliver had been dating for six months and had a rocky relationship. Relatives also said that the couple was returning from the laundromat down the street, when Lamare told Oliver she wanted to break it up. Oliver allegedly returned home to get some gasoline, relatives and police said.
Officers were called about noon to Hollister Avenue between Jennings Street and Ingalls Street near the Bayview district on reports of a woman screaming. When they arrived, they found that she had been severely burned.
Craig told NBC Bay Area that when she visited her sister in the hospital, her face and chest were so burned that she barely recognized her.

"They argue all the time," Craig said. "Couples argue all the time, but I didn’t know it was going to go this far."

CA will probably give him probation work release due to overcrowding. He should be hung from a park tree.
"Why do they always conceal the race when the attacker is black like this guy ?"
Huh? Why do you ask? Is he more guilty if he's black?
t.neville Please fill the world in on how that you know the man is black?
Or why it matters.
ME generation strikes again.
...because that's how the old liberal media rolls! If the attacker was white and victim black... race information would be fully disclosed.
SteveH, and you know that both Sharpton and J.Jackson would be on national tv by now looking to issue a statement that they are outraged!
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/police-hunt-man-set-girlfriend-fire-18147625#.UOr2qeTAeSo
ABC tells a better story! See the video
smitty, go to the link FedupwithFed posted (2.11), there's a photo of the attacker and he's black. As obama has said before, "he could be my son".
Give this guy the death by injection.
The only JUST punishment would be to be strapped own and set on fire. Lethal injection would be too humane!
So they put out a BOLO for a suspect without a description, how do you find him aside from asking every guy on the street if they are named Dexter Oliver?
We already know how MSN doctored the tape of Zimmerman to get sympathy and outrage for Trayvon
Dexter Oliver Wanted By San Francisco Police For Allegedly Setting Girlfriend On Fire
Huffington Post - 10 hours ago
Investigators believe her attacker was 22-year-old Dexter Oliver. Manfredi says Oliver had a "dating relationship" with the woman, but he did not ...
I'm just wondering why "Nyckyybn165's" posts keep getting deleted. Otherwise, I feel sorry for this poor woman and hope she gets better.
Why the question on race? Anyone asking about the race of the Steubenville accused? The issue is a larger issue of treatment of women in society and bringing up race only distracts and trivializes the issue, thus making constructive steps to prevent them more difficult. Hollywood has successfully perpetuated the image of violence against women through movies and tv and glorified a stereotypical male image of women. Anyone asking questions of them?
This perp. should be found and the book thrown at him.
Race is not really the issue if the couple concerned are romantically involved. Presumably, the woman was not attacked by her boyfriend because of race. If the crime was a random one, then one could reasonably speculate about motive, which might include race.

I would disagree because every TV commercial I see is all about making the male look like an idiot. The only thing Hollywood has done is destroy the belief in family. All they do is push that a woman doesn't need a man in their life. Yet we see what is happening to the youth of this country all because of a broken home.
Severed Head in a Jar,
"They were deleted and the user account was removed account because they were advertising posts."
Thanks for the information, friend. I was just wondering about that. There seems to be a lot of that kind of posting going on here on Newsvine lately. I've seen a lot of such posts recently myself. They must be getting paid to do that sort of thing.
So you think TV commercials are what drives American culture? And Hollywood is in the business of destroying beliefs in families? Are there also Commies under your bed? Bats in your belfry? Invisible insects all over your body?
So now people are copying this crap from the Muslims macho/women abusers, not a good thing to imitate.
In this case and the Steubenville rape case, the victim was a woman. When are hate crimes against women going to be called hate crimes? Especially in the Steubenville case, it has been claimed that participation was not a crime by those local authorities, even though the bystanders participated in the hate crime.
Screw that. Give him death by pouring gasoline over him and lighting him on fire. I wonder if he will feel it's so great then.....
John Silver: I've been married for 33 years, and while I agree that marriage is a great idea, there are some men who walk out when the going gets tough, or worse, they harm their girlfriend or wife. That is the subject at hand. Or, in the Steubenville case, they harm a stranger that is a female. That case really bothers me, because it tells something about how those boys were raised. I had heard the Steubenville was a conservative town, but more than that, there was a special devotion there to the Blessed Virgin Mary as co-redemptrix, that had been promoted from there. That was a discussion within the Roman Catholic Church some years ago, but it is still something that ought to have influenced how the children were taught in that town.
By the way, as far as "traditional" goes: I had a very traditional marriage, and now my earning power is much lower than my husband's, right when he would need a good salary from me, because he is ill, and really shouldn't be working. I wish that I had a good job at the moment.
Yes, that's the answer to everything apparently, more guns.
The guy's race is of utmost importance for those who have a racial ax to grind and read the story looking for an opportunity to spew their usual, race based tripe. Everyone else reads it and thinks "What a horrible thing for a person to have done to another person. I hope the person responsible gets caught and severely punished." The pro-gun crowd says "Wouldn't have happened if she had a gun" or "Outlaw flammable liquids!" The religious say "See what happens when you take God out of schools!" The atheists say "Where was your God when she was getting burned?" I have learned that Newsvine mostly serves as a platform for people to spout off their strongly held beliefs moreso than a place for people to exchange ideas.
Hey Daniel Arkin, NBC News and the rest of the media: WHY DO YOU REPORT THIS AS FRONT PAGE NEWS. Moreover, why do you report it at all. One person out of about 400 million people does some outrageous act and you need to publicize it so other nut jobs get inspired to mimicry? Get a life and try to do some real, professional, news reporting.
Cappy - RE: post #2.32
Good post. You nailed it. I couldn't agree more. People are pretty insensitive about what they say when they're true identity is completely hidden. They don't have to worry about getting their nose flattened for being such a monumental ass. Most of them won't dare say that crap to someones face without a full measure of tact applied or a bunch of their crew around to back them up.
Cappy,
"I have learned that Newsvine mostly serves as a platform for people to spout off their strongly held beliefs moreso than a place for people to exchange ideas."
You're right there, you know. That's why this new nominee for Secretary of Defense is going to catch so much hell in Congress. He's too independent a thinker. I'm sorry to have to say it, but free thinking is not allowed in 21st. century America.
Mickey said: "free thinking is not allowed in 21st. century America."
Which is exactly why we need more people doing it.
and...
You're suggesting that if this woman had a gun she wouldn't have been burned. Nobody knows that for sure. Maybe she did have a gun? She could have been laying down or sleeping. You can't have a gun and finger on the trigger at all times. Besides, if she had a gun, there's a good chance this douche bag would have taken it from her and shot her with it.
The question of his race has less to do about a racial issue and more about his description in case anyone might see him and then can call the police.
On the topic of the victim whose race was not given I wish her a full recovery and a long and happy life.
May justice be served for the perp
You accuse me of should ofs and would ofs yet turn around and do the same? She would have had just as much of a better chance with a can of mace, brass knuckles, a kitchen knife, a fire extinguisher, a black belt in Ty Kwon Do, a baseball bat, a sharp kick to the groin etc.
This idea that good guys with guns are the only counter to bad guys wishing harm is absurd. And putting more guns in circulation raises the risk of them being misused by somone in the future.
Gneisenau,
I've hear "Set out a fire for a man and his is warm for a day, set a man on fire and his is warm for the rest of his life."
Morbid joke aside, it is awful that he felt justified doing that. I'll guess he thought that if he couldn't have her, he'd make it so no one else could or would want to.
Truly sick.
Wow, you actually have the nerve to advertise and cheer about gun appreciation day, on the 2 year anniversary of Aurora and just a month after 20 babies and their caregivers were killed...and on top of it you insult anyone who disagrees with you by calling names?
"Anti-gunners"...what a joke. Is that what you call people who don't like guns? Do you all sit around in a big circle-jerk hugging your guns that you love so much?
So Mr. "I love my gun and snuggle with it every night", what do YOU suggest we do as a country to try and protect those sweet little innocent babies that these crazies...who don't seem to be crazy enough to understand where to go to kill the most unprotected and unarmed people? Hey Captain Obvious, of COURSE these guys aren't planning on going to an even filled with guns to try and kill people, so you want to give some HELPFUL solutions to the problem instead of insulting people who are shocked at what has been happening?
Yes, Ms. Giffords was quite right when she said Congress did something extraordinary after one of their own was shot in the street and left for dead...NOTHING!!!!
Since you know so much about guns and love them so, why wouldn't you "gunners" be all up in arms trying to figure out a way to get your guns away from these bad apples that make sweet nice gun lovers like you look so bad and feel so defensive at the shocked reactions of the rest of us????
star lamare was set on fire...precious craig bust a egg...dexter oliver doing the oliver boliver butt thing in sing sing...ain't nobody got time for that...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFEoMO0pc7k
OK now. Before we pass judgement on this guy he probably had a good reason for doing what he did. So lets give him a fair trial and then burn him to death.
Mymomdidnotraiseafool
Well maybe not a fool...But I could probably list off a few other things.
Evidently you are a left leaning person, probably consider yourself a liberal? If so, then of course you wouldn't notice the perpetual leftist Propaganda that spews forth from TV, Hollywood and the MSM.
You probably haven't noticed, or find nothing wrong with, the all to familiar tactic of making the Antagonist, in many movies, ("The American President", "Evan Almighty", "Dave" come to mind) a Republican or Conservative.
How many TV shows, and movies are there now in which the Protagonist is a Single Mother? Homosexual Male? How many of those shows depict the Male or Father figure as a loser? incompetent? or non existent? How many of these shows depict Homosexuality as "normal"?
I am not saying these are the causes of the what is going on. I am saying that the pervasive nature of it does get into the subconscious of people who are not paying attention, or have good parenting.
And while I don't have Communists under my bed, we do have one in the White House. Just because the Soviet Union has fallen or maybe BECAUSE the Soviet Union has fallen, we need to be ever vigilant not to allow those in power to confiscate our wealth for their own purpose.
If not us, Who?....If not now, When? How many NRA members does it take to screw in a light bulb? answer: more guns
To say the woman should have had a gun is foolish; if she had shot him prior to him tossing the gasoline on her, then SHE would be the one in jail.
This kind of act, "if I can't have her/him then no one will" probably predates written history. It is horrible and tragic, but since people have not evolved it will just keep happening.
thedeb
WOW, talk about propaganda: "after 20 babies and their caregivers" They were children, and Teachers. Give them the respect they deserve.
Perhaps this is what is wrong with our educational system, you people think of them as "care givers" instead of "knowledge givers".
You are aware that; "The same day as the tragic Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting, a Chinese man stabbed 22 children in China" Knowing that, how do you propose to stop crazy people from doing harm? {Yes I know they survived, but that is not the point} China is a Police state, and they could not stop a crazy man from attacking children in a school. Is that what you want, a Police state?
And we gun owners are trying to help mitigate these attacks, but how can we discuss anything with people who are emotionally impaired.
Oh, OK, so you jump all over the words I chose to use and call it propaganda? I have worked with, and now have a 5 year old, and YES, at that age, they are still babies. Teachers don't give care, only knowledge? Really? Propaganda means "information of a misleading nature"...are you saying that calling 6 year olds babies and "knowledge givers" "caregivers" is information of a misleading nature? Or are you saying that because I view very young children as babies and teachers as caregivers that I'm emotionally impaired? Seems to me you just wanted to pick apart my choice of words so you could insult me. The problem with education is that people see teachers as caregivers? Wow.
Yes, I am aware of what happened in China. No, I do not want a Police state. I want our democratic country to work together, despite our differences of opinion, and actually TAKE SOME ACTION. How many more of these mass murders need to happen before we realize there are too many guns getting into the hands of the wrong people using the current legal method to purchase them?
Do I think banning guns is the solution? NO. I am an educated woman and I understand and respect the 2nd Amendment. You will not find any posts from me screaming for the banning of guns. I'd like to see tougher restrictions, more thorough background checks, more extensive VETTING of civilians before they are able to own and operate a gun. More training, not just on how to use the weapon, but how to protect the rest of the world from that weapon.
Perhaps if Lanza's mother, for instance, had ensure and prove that she stored and locked her weapons away in a place that nobody else would have access to...that tragedy might, MIGHT have been averted. NOT SAYING IT WOULD, PLEASE NOTICE. If your name is not on the license, you have no business using the weapon, knowing where it's stored, or knowing how to get to it. I don't quite get why she needed assault rifles, but whatever. My personal opinion on that matter is neither here nor there.
If this kid from Colorado didn't have such an easy time purchasing those guns, maybe he wouldn't have been able to. If he had to go through weapons training, pass extensive background checks, be tested by, oh I don't know, a responsible gun owner from the NRA, maybe he wouldn't have been able to own any guns. I assume, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, that someone such as yourself or Mr. Kiss n Hug His Guns would have come to the conclusion that this particular individual had no business owning a steak knife, let alone a gun.
Guns are never going away. Let's be realistic. Even if they did, murder is never going away. This world we live in is not always wonderful. Instead of bashing each other for disagreeing about whether or not we like guns, we should all be coming together to try and protect ourselves from each other as well as from the possible uprising of our government.
So tell me, specifically, what exactly have YOU done to help alleviate this matter?
thedeb #2.49
Yes I jumped all over the words you used, it is all we have in this venue. And while you may think of them as "babies" m-w defines as( : an extremely young child; especially : infant) to me it means less than two years old, i.e. less than a toddler. Using the language you did, whether consciously or not incites a more visceral emotional response, which to me equates to Propaganda. {besides as my 3 year old nephew will tell me, "I am not a baby"} Perhaps it is the harshness of reality, but we do not refer to nor do we treat our children as babies. When they are old enough, they are given chores to do. Nor do we treat the older children as "young adults", again based on each ones level, they are given chores of increasing responsibility, but we supervise them in those chores so they don't bear the the consequences of responsibility. At least not until they are an adolescence.
Now then, a student may be under a teachers "care", :Charge or Supervision, but to me caregiver carries the connotation of an emotional bond, that should not be present in a professional setting such as a school. Yes, a teacher should have have some emotional qualities, such as a mentor.
And I know what I am writing seems cold and detached, but if we are to fix the problem we need to get emotion out of the way and look critically at the problem. (Believe me, I can only imagine the rage I would be in, had this happened to my niece and nephew) Two of my sisters in law are teachers, and they want to carry.(and this is in small town USA)
Since the Chinese could not stop a guy from committing such an act. (even though the students some how survived, and I believe it was luck that they did). How are we going to stop such a thing in this country with organizations like the ACLU? The only short term solution is to arm or defend YOURSELF against it, the Government is powerless in this case. In the long term, we need to return to 'cliche' Good ol' American Family Values of the past. No more quickie divorces, abortions, SSI, welfare, etc. Life with consequences and discipline.
The problem is not the guns nor the 'gun owners'. PERIOD. The problem is the attitude towards guns and the mentally ill. You are aware, or you should be, that until the Firearms Control Act of 1934, it was legal to order a full automatic machine gun through the US Mail. As far as my research has been able to discover there were only two incidences in the 20's in which a spree killing (other than gangland) took place and neither used an automatic weapon. Now think about that, THERE WERE ONLY TWO INCIDENCES IN THE WHOLE DECADE.(There may be more, but I have not found any.)
Also, you might be interested to know that the crime rate of CCP is actually less than that of the police. We need to remember to that police are human, and are therefore corruptible. So much for training and vetting. You do remember a guy named Peterson? You should Google "police officer kills wife"
How do you know she didn't? I have heard nothing on the disposition of the guns in the home. They may very well have been locked in a safe, in which he forced to open. You say you have a 5 year old, let's say you have several guns in a safe. A burglar breaks in, finds the safe is lock, goes to your child's bedroom, holding a knife to you child's throat, tells you to open the safe. What do you do? {since your guns are locked in the safe, you can not use one to shoot the burglar}
What kind of testing do you envision? How much more extensive do background checks need to be? As I pointed out earlier, even the police are prone to criminal activity. And just how expensive do you want to make it for a person to exercise a God given right? Are we going to discriminate against the poor? Don't know about you, but if I lived in one of those neighborhoods, I would like to be able to get a gun to protect my family.
My solution, and my sisters in law agree, do away with "gun free". If a business wishes to put up a "No Guns" sign, then let them take 100% liability for the safety of their patrons. I would have no problem with legislation that ties mental health facilities to the background check database. Provided there is an inexpensive appeal process if someone is put in the database for reasons that do not pertain to 2nd amendment issues.
The trouble is, if a person is not on the radar, if he has not shown signs of psychosis, how do one stop them? One does not. You can only defend against it, once it starts.
Just like the guy in China. They got lucky, and none of the kids died. But that doesn't mean they are not scarred for life.
Ya know, I watched Dredd last night and when I see a story like this I think it would be great if the police could just execute this pos and not waste any more than a bullet to remove this Scum from society !
A horrible crime! A good example of utilizing the biblical punishment of an 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth'!
First of all, I could give a rat's *ss what race either of them are. Secondly, I have suffered extensive third degree burns and skin grafting. Set him on fire. Imprisonment isn't enough.
Hi Rick, while I haven't had any burns as such of my own, both of my parents have experienced it. My dad, all over his chest, arms and neck and my mom all over both legs from ankle to knee; both 3rd degree. I know from their experience what it was like and I watched as the months rolled by when they were healing and going through physical therapy. It's not fun or pretty and to me would be the worst way to have to die, let alone being the worst pain someone would have to suffer through if they were to live.
I agree with George and you. This kind of crime is a perfect eye for an eye punishible crime.
Punishment should fit the crime. Long prison sentence in San Quentin. Death penalty if she does not survive.
you are talking about california. there are 500 people on deathrow as it is. the fire guy would be unlucky if he got executed before he was in his 70s.
And if we execute a few innocent people too, well, too bad. Just a cost of doing business.
After all, you can't make an omlet...
This is a horrible crime. I think he should receive the same sentence as the woman that set her husband on fire after dousing him with flammable liquids : no time in prison as she was subjected to mental relationship torture.
hard to think of a suitable punishment for this sad sack individual. However slowly dipping his testicals into HCL acid does come to mind.
Only if by "slowly dipping" you mean starting at his feet and moving up past his head.
The United States has some of the most deranged people on Earth. We present far more harm to one another than any foreign country.
I guess you missed the India rape story where one of the attackers tried to pull her intestines out through the hole they made with the iron rod....or the car bombs that go off everyday throughout the world killing kids. Yes, just the USA is deranged.
It's ok because of the 2nd amendment.
Apparently, Mr. Carter doesn't listen to or watch the national news. The thing about the USA, that makes us different from most of the rest of the world, is that we actually prosecute the villains. It just seems like we have more because we don't hide them.
I hope this lady recovers quickly and well. Burns are such terrible disasters, even in a small area. The perpetrator should be dealt with harshly and without mercy.
I don't think you read much international news. You can find this and many other "great" stories like it around the globe.
Jimmy Carter, you should watch the news more. They prefer acid in the face for women and it is so common it does not make news. 27 raping a young girl with a crow bar did seen to get on the radar but they are far sicker, hopefully we will not go down that road.
You should pay more attention to the news that comes out of the middle east daily!
sam adams: It's ok because of the 1st amendment.
There, all fixed!
In the defense of Mr. Carter; he did say, "some" of the most deranged, but this is really a result of the human condition called sin that not only affects Americans, but the whole human race regardless of sex, skin color, nationality, religious beliefs, social or economic status. The only solution is found in Jesus Christ, who died to set us free from the slavery and punishment of sin.
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:31-36
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Mike-2283408
Shove your jesus crap up your ass.
I'll say!
What's the matter Darwin? You going to tell us how there's no purpose, value, or meaning to life and how we are all accidents? You going to tell us how the universe just came to be by some explosion that came from nothing? You my friend have more faith than I do.
2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:2-4
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
are only a small village among all the people of Judah.
Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you,
one whose origins are from the distant past.
Micah 5:2
In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
6 God sent a man, John the Baptist,7 to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8 John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. 9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. 11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. 12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
John 1:1-14
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
John 14:6
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3 The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. 4 This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.
Hebrews 1:1-4
The devil would like nothing more than for me not to tell you and others about the hope of salvation found only in Jesus Christ, but I'm not sorry that is not going to happen.
Mike, tell that God crap to the 20+ dead kid's parents in Newtown. I'm sure it will make them all feel better.
btw If Jesus is alive and coming back some day then he didn't "die for our sins" and it was a token effort at best. yet if I don't accept that token effort I'll burn in hell for eternity? Even Stalin and Hitler weren't that cruel to their enemies.
I challenge any one to argue for the existance of God without quoting from the Bible, Koran, or Torah, or Book of Mormon.
@Hollykb: I challenge any one to argue for the existance of God without quoting from the Bible, Koran, or Torah, or Book of Mormon.
So tell me... what caused the Big Bang, and how did anything exist before existance? Science still has no answer, and it never will because science is not and should never be used as a philosophy or belief system. Just the same way that religion should not be used to stifle learning about the physical world.
I watched Dredd last night and when I see a story like this I wish the Police just execute this POS and waste no more than a bullet to remove this SCUM from society !
They should set him on fire too after he gets caught. Can't imagine anything more sickening.
My very sincere condolences to the victim of this heineous crime. I know recoveries with burns are not quick or esay, but I hope you persevere and recover as quickly as possible.
As for the perpetrator. Once the guilty party is in fact aprehended, I hope for a SPEEDY trial and if not life, a very long prison term.
Well said.
Your writing sounds forced...just a third party's opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.
markutk
You obviously have not read many of my missives on these pages.
Hardly forced.
Have a great day.
I most certainly haven't.
If you actually talk like this...more power to you. We need more genuinely intelligent individuals and less pedants.
We need flammable liquid control!
The chemists who formulated this mix - blood is on your hands!
The company that produced it - and sold it - they should be sued!
Perhaps if there were background checks and waiting periods!
And who needs high-capacity containers of chemicals? Surely only a few milliliters is all a law abiding citizen would need to own?
Ah, the ridiculousness of it all. Sad way to start a Monday.
I hope she makes it, and that he meets a swift and just end.
.
We need to ban Flammable Liquids!!!
Yes! We need a knee-jerk reaction to solve this problem! Good thing he didn't have a gun or she would be dead instead of just being horribly disfigured for the next 60 years or so. I think I'd rather be shot...
EXACTLY! Wait a minute... let me use my brain and ponder this for a minute... only one person was injured and flammable liquid has other 'main' purposes than killing people. Just think of all the other people he could have mowed down if he had an assault rifle!
Funny, my guns just shoot holes in paper and knock clay targets out of the sky providing that I do my part. Guess the damn things are defective since they have never fulfilled their "main purpose" of killing people.
You're either an idiot or a liar if you say you think that the main reason guns exist is for target practice. That's why they call it practice!
J.O. SAYINGCO it's TARGET PRACTICE, where you hit the bullseye. DUMBASS!
arch, its called 'practice' so you get better for the 'real thing'.... which is killing people. (You don't hunt animals with assault rifles. I don't have as much of a problem with guns used for hunting as that is their main purpose). FOOL!
Why are all of these liberal people so bonkers? All of these mass murders come from liberal states and liberal ideology what happened to humanity.
Well it appears that common sense and reading comprehension are not your strong point. This was not a mass murder, this was a grizzly assault and we have no idea of any political affiliation. What an ignorant post.
I think he was referring to the mass murders that happened in Connecticut and Colorado, but there are hateful murderous people in conservative states as well. I believe the point he is making is that you are not going to keep people from murdering people by passing more anti-gun laws. We can't stop illegal drugs or people from crossing our borders; do you think we can stop guns?
Mike,
That is because people can manufacture drugs at home. Any laws restricting a specific type of weapon or accessory would have to address the manufacturing of that weapon. If manufacturing is not addressed, then you are right, the supply will be there and you will not be able to stem the tide. Even if laws against manufacturing were instituted, it would take a long time before the restricted item is out of the hands of criminals as they are confiscated as they are picked up.
Any reasonable person understands that a multi-pronged approach would be needed including mental health, weapons manufacturing, background, etc....
And I do agree that it does not matter if a State leans liberal or conservative, as neither group condones crime and not all people are the same within groups. It is more likely an apolitical problem that people try to manipulate and misrepresent for their own political views.
Yeah, this sort of thing wouldn't happen in Texas, right? They'd just drag a black man to death behind a pickup truck.
we need some basic changes - if found guilty you get the same as the victim - in this case the bastard gets set on fire ... and then after they save his life off to prison ...now that is the proper way to do things
This happened because we aren't regulating the use of fire enough. If George Bush had spent time worry about how easy it is to access materials for creating fire instead of going to war with Iraq, this guy would not have been able to harm this poor lady.
Perfect example of how more gun laws don't prevent evil people from doing evil things.
Well it doesn't compare to a mall shooting.
Quickly we must ban lighters, matches and flammable liquids!
Ban flammable liquid !
How many people do you clowns think would die in a rampage if the offender was running around a theatre or mall with a can of gas and a lighter trying to douse everyone and set them on fire?
How many would die if he had barred the door and set the theater on fire?
@Leroy Brown: Depending on how smart the rampagee was, dozens to hundreds.
Leroy Clown-
Ever been to a mall with more than one level? This individual apparently had only one target. I'm sure if he wanted to, he could have been on a balcony in a public place, dumped a few gallons of gas on whomever happened to be standing below him, and dropped a road flare. Improbable, but not impossible.
Just keep telling yourselves guns don't kill people, guns don't kill people, guns don't kill..........
My gun has never killed anyone.
Why won't they post the victims picture?
good question Stinkleton don't you mean attacker's pic? I often wonder why fugitives pics aren't posted. Obviously dangerous man at large why no pic?
And what picture would you prefer to see; Her as a crispy critter? Why do you need to see her picture (crispy or otherwise)?
I just wanted to see if she's hot or not.
how is fire legal in a modern society?
In response, California lawmakers proposed a bill to ban fire from California.
I am totally against hitting a woman, but I kind of wished he would have just shoved her or something and then let her be. This was ridiculous. He needs to be to death ASAP. I have an idea, let's light him up as well.
Are you serious? You wished that he would have just "shoved her or something"? What if he had "shoved her" out of a window or the "something" was stab her with a knife? How do you let somebody "be" after that? What this man did was unspeakable and he deserves to be locked up for life. This lady is going to have to live, if she does in the end, with these scars for the rest of her life. There's no excuse for any kind of violence against anybody, men, women and children.
Sadly, we are debasing life more and more and this is just another sad example of what's continuing to happen.
Peace.
I believe he is stating that a hit would have been better than what happened and I agree. A bruise will heal. A burn, especially extensive burn, will never heal completely.
True there's no reason for uncalled for brutality against someone but I'd rather be hit or shoved than set on fire and bear the scars on my body permanantly. I believe that is what he is stating.
He maybe stating that a hit would have been better but I disagree! No act of violence is "better" than another. Anybody out there who may believe this insanity is pathetic! No evil act is "better" than another. There have been cases where a person was just "hit" and they hit their head and died! And shoving somebody is o.k.? If a person is really angry and worked up, they could shove somebody down a flight of stairs and seriously injure or kill a person that way too. When somebody is raging, any kind of physical contact is dangerous. Oh, and for your information, not all bruises heal. Especially the psychological ones.
Peace.
Oh Noes.....now they have to ban flammable liquids as well as guns, knives, hammers, baseball bats, yada yada yada!
Also they don't post pics because they don't want you to see that blacks commit 90% of crimes...who woulda thought!....like the 11 people shoot on NYE....was 8 blacks that I know of...
You can kill someone with your bare hands too, perhaps we should chop off everyone's hands? The only function of a gun is to kill, that's the difference you half-wits either ignore or fail to grasp when you keep making that same stupid argument over and over.
Wouldn't you know a gun nut would make a silly argument like that?
Yes...guns are made to kill, for things such as zombies, people carrying flammable liquids to burn up other people, people coming at you with either a baseball bat, hammer, knife......need I go on you numbnut people?
It's people LIKE you two that become casualties because you believe nothing will ever happen to you...lol..RUN man that dudes coming at you with a can of gasoline and he looks crazy...lol
Now you are making a different argument, that guns are required for protection, an argument that does have merit, and one which many gun control advoctes agree with. The classic gun-nut argument that you started out with is what we took to task. It's a very stupid argument; do yourself a favor and stop using it.
leroy brown,
"You can kill someone with your bare hands too, perhaps we should chop off everyone's hands?"
They do just that in the Middle East and for offenses much less serious than murder, too.
Lol, yes, I better watch who I suggest that to, some may take it seriously!
Tcko63,
How about we ban idiots like you? All morons should be banished to Alaska. HA HA!!
We could ban every gun, but the criminals will not turn theirs over just like they don't turn over their illegal drugs or stop their illegal criminal activities. You could just wait for the police to show up. Then there's the government we have to contend with. First they take away our guns and then our rights of freedom of speech, press, religion, freedom of illegal or unreasonable searches, and anything else they want to take away from us. Of course some of the more "enlightened" progressives would like nothing more than for us to become a socialist communist dictatorship where the government controls every aspect of our lives.
Mike,
"You could just wait for the police to show up."
If you wait for the police to show up, you will most likely be dead before they do if they even show up. I once called the police to report a crime in progress. Someone was stealing a kid's bike. The police never showed up at all, so there is a kid out there somewhere with no bike now. Other times I have had to call the police, it took them at least an hour to show up. Hardly adequate response time in an emergency!
Why is violence of any sort an option? What's wrong with just turning around and walking away? Does it always have to be about "us" and how important we are that we can do something to harm another? Such foolishness. Harming another gets you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! NOTHING AT ALL! It won't make anyone feel better, it won't raise self esteem, it won't get whomever "back." Get over YOUR problems and move on. It's called maturity, and a lot of adult people need a good healthy dose. Those who reject it need to be separated from the rest of us, because we really don't have the time, effort or want to deal with these pathetic, violent, and idiotic behaviors.
Clearly we aren't regulating the use of fire enough.
Credit where credit is due..."The woman took off her clothes and managed to put out the fire immediately after the attack, but police said she nonetheless sustained serious injuries"
This is one gutsy lady......hope she gets over it ok and stays away from the bum.
At least it wasn't gun violence. With a gun in the house, he might have shot her or she might have shot him.
since he likes fire...soak a tyre in kerosene.put it down over his arms and light it...then see if he can stop, drop and roll...
It's San Fransicko. He probably lost it when he found out she was really a woman.
