NEW YORK — A robbery crew posing as police officers planned to rob a heroin distribution ring Wednesday but walked into a Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation instead, law enforcement officials said.

Using informants, DEA agents were able to infiltrate the Bronx gang which planned to carry out the drug deal rip-off and arrest the 16 suspected gangsters. The crew, allegedly led by Javion "King Kong" Camacho, were armed with guns, fake police vests and shirts.

Prosecutors said Camacho boasted to an informant that the "wolves are hungry" and that he liked the sound of "the job." In addition to recordings, investigators said there were text messages about the plot.

DEA agents said the suspects were set to carry out the holdup using a caravan of six cars, guns, ski masks, police T-shirts and a police scanner. Camacho admitted he was caught "red-handed," according to court papers.

"As alleged, this was a marauding gang of armed and violent thieves in the Bronx who masqueraded as police officers in order to trick their narcotics-dealing targets so they could steal their drugs and their cash," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.

Others arrested and charged include Gary Sanchez, Ramon Jiminez, Victor Morel and Joshua Roman. The suspects were expected to be arraigned in Manhattan federal court late Thursday.

Not saying the gang was smart, but they had to know what kind of weapons cops would be carrying.

      #29.1 - Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:56 AM EST

The cops would normally be equipped with Glocks or other similar handguns, Tactical shotguns, and AR-15/M-16/M-4 type weapons.

So as I understand it, the DEA set up this elaborate (and undoubtedly expensive) sting operation to protect the heroin dealers? Hmmm...I guess that would go a long way towards explaining why they never actually arrest any major traffickers or dealers.

I look forward to the day when the American people finally realize the sheer depth of corruption and malfeasance the Justice Dept. and it's initialed police services have fallen to. FBI, DEA, BATF&E, Secret Service, to name a few. With budget cuts obviously coming the sheer enormity of these contrived acts to garner headlines is criminal within itself. From Attorney General Eric Holder on down to the very last agent, investigations are warranted and the American people deserve to know just how unjust and intrusive this rape of the American Ideal of Freedom has truly affected our society and made us the laughing stock of world opinion.

Bet the DEA ran up on them and said,

"What the hell are you guys doing!? This is our heroin!"

Now who the heck cares if dope dealers rob other dope dealers?? Are they committing a crime? How can one crook commit a crime against another crook? Doesn't make sense and is a waste of resources going about these guys. If they want to catch some real crooks they should go to Washington.

                      Several crimes.

Impersonation of a police officer. Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance. Attempted kidnapping. Conspiracy to commit a felony. Felony assault. Felon in possession of a firearm.

There's probably a few more, like resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and probably a probation violation to throw the book at these punks.

Here's the thing you don't seem to get. BAD GUYS BRING AROUND OTHER BAD GUYS. It's a birds of a feather thing. If you have bad guys for neighbors, then their friends, enemies and acquaintances coming around will be bad guys just like them. Then you've got bad guys everywhere and they're going to be looking for a good guy to victimize, a good guy just like you.

These evil guys are a disease in our society. They need to be locked away (or better yet, hanged) because the disease they have is a cancer that spreads and costs innocent lives.

Here's proof that gang members need to at least complete high school before embarking on their life long passion. It's really kind of funny if you think about it. The gang sets up a fake sting to steal from a drug operation that turns out to be a real sting to catch drug dealers so the fake stingers get stung by the real sting. Our gangsters in this country are going to have to start getting some kind of a college degree before embarking on their life of crime.

Actually I don't see a dam thing wrong with robbing these scumbag dealers. Why should people care for them went they certainly don't care about people? It's money, money, money, that's what has meaning for them.

Come to think of it that could be a way to clean up the neighborhood.

Until some kid gets caught in the crossfire - then all of a sudden people will start to care.

With the gun laws NY already has on the books, how did these guys get guns? It is not legal to pose as a police officer. This can't be true!

If we can justify sending a big bunch of terrorist suspects to Guantonamo, and keep them there forever, why can't we just send these guys too.

Hmm...Criminals preying on criminals. I really don’t have a problem with that!

Although the lines are blurring a bit. Criminals posing as cops and cops posing as criminals. I guess somebody doesn’t like competition.
