Ex-wife arrested after Florida man dragged behind truck

Jeanette Morris, Harold Anderson, Joan Hobart

Two women and a man are facing attempted murder charges after authorities say they shocked a Florida man with a stun gun and beat him before tying him to a truck's bumper and dragging him a half-mile down a road.

Jeannette Morris, 61, her brother, 63-year-old Harold Anderson, and 46-year-old Joan Hobart are also charged with aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit murder in the Tuesday incident in Samsula, Volusia County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Authorities say Morris, Anderson and Hobart were drinking vodka with Morris' ex-husband in the home she shares with him when the three attacked the ex-husband.

The 54-year-old ex-husband was shocked several times with the stun gun and repeatedly punched in the face and had a gun put to his head. He then had his hands tied behind his back and he was dragged outside, where his ankles were tied and the rope was attached to the rear bumper of a pickup truck, authorities said.

The man was dragged down the road before the truck stopped and he was tossed in the back. The trio cut off some of his hair and talked about scalping him and finding a hole in which to bury him, authorities said.

Miami police car bullet hole mystery

At one point, the man was able to break free and jump from the moving truck and ran to a nearby home to get help. Authorities say he showed up at the home beaten and bloody wearing only his torn underwear and ropes around his neck and wrist.

He was treated at the scene and later taken to a Daytona hospital's intensive surgical care unit with a broken pelvis, broken facial bones and bleeding in his brain.

Deputies found Morris who had dried blood on her clothes and hand but denied her involvement in the attack and said the blood came from breaking up a fight between dogs, authorities said.

Anderson was also found with a swollen right hand with cut and bloody knuckles, authorities said. He had a gun and a shovel and showed no remorse, authorities said, saying it wouldn't have bothered him if the victim had died.

Hobart, of New Smyrna Beach, was arrested Wednesday night. All three remained in custody early Friday and it was unknown whether they have attorneys.

IXLR8,

"Jack Daniels and Meth Tabs."

They must have been leading a hard and low life as you suggest, because I'm 63 myself, and when I saw the picture of Anderson, I had to go look in a mirror to see if I looked that bad. Conclusion: Nope! And that woman on the left looks like she is in her 70's or 80's instead of just 61. That's just what you get for leading a low life, I guess.

I think it's time to move out! Obviously his ex-wife has some mental issues. But now that she should be charged with attempted murder he won't have to share the home with her crazy arse anymore.

I'm still laffin at the idea the dummy was still sharing the house with the Ex who obviously hates him. Not only are they all ugly as sin, but not too bright either. She told the sheriif's deputy the blood was from a dogfight ! But Florida is full of trash like this. When they are not sportin county orange they proudly call themselves rednecks. At least they are wearing half of the gator's colors - bet they have a gater sticker on that truck. They think Larry the Cable guy is a role model. Isn't Smyrna the place that guy came from who shot the black kid at a gas station in Jacksonville for loud music ? Lovely little town - probably needs bulldozin.

The third is a 10th generation inbred. Ewww man.

The x-husband must have had a lot of vodkain him to be able to run to a neighbors house with a broken pelvis though. Wonder what "he" looks like....

Having been to New Smyrna, I'm willing to defend it.

If I could find a good job within 20 miles of New Smyrna, I'd move there without hesitation. The sharks are a bigger threat than the rednecks (New Smyrna is the shark bite capital of the U.S.)

TerryFromWeatherfordTX, hillbillies are associated with the south...you know, the place where all the Republicans live? Your chances of finding a liberal or any democrat is much slimmer. The last I knew, Texas loved to drag people behind their trucks. Why should Florida be any different? Doubt they were democrats or any other liberal. Liberals do not believe in capital punishment, Republicans do.

So you need to come up with something better, only this time do some research!!

        Julieann,

Hillbillies are associated with the Ohio river valley, West Virginia, Kentucky, the Ozarks, etc...Hillbillies are called hillbillies because they live in the hills. The rest of us southerners prefer to be called rednecks, get it right. And Florida is a bunch of yankee transplants and Cubans anyway. Florida is also a swing state, Obama won the last election, plenty of democrats there, not hard to find a liberal at all.

So, come up with something better, and do some research. Ignorance is ironic isn't it?

Julieann and for ever dem, go spend some time in the city of the State of Texas Capitol and tell me how many redneck right wing conservative republicans you find compared to the number of liberals you encounter. You might be surprised.

Some areas of Texas are as liberal as it gets. Austin is known to be very liberal, and the city of Houston has a gay mayor. How does all that fit your model of the South?

The last dragging death in TX I am aware of was in the 1990's, if I recall correctly. And the guys who did this were sentenced to death.

I have family from Kentucky and they proudly refer to themselves as brars. The folks in Ohio pronounce it briars. The kentucks thinks the word "hillbilly" is an upscale word you use in polite company to impress them with your good manners. What we have in Florida, the three in the photo and dummy who got victimized are what we call white trash. Previous posters speculated meth or alcoholism or inbreeding as the cause of their current looks and behavior. I am not prepared to argue against those claims. But I am sure my Kentuck brar relatives can whoop 'em.

And by the way, Texans are Texans. Nothing more. Many Texans do not identify themselves as liberals, democrats, conservatives, republicans, libertarians, rednecks, etc. Just Texans, who live in a State that prides itself in not fitting anyone else's mold.

Talk about "diversity?" That word seems to have taken liberal connotation for most of the U. S.

Well, I've been all over this country and can tell you Texas has, by far, the most diverse set of cultures I've seen, including New York.

It's sad to see so many people denigrate Texas when they have no idea what Texas is all about.

Go to the Daytona newspaper article. They list the address in that article.

Pop the address in Google maps and then look for the trailer park. Good luck finding it.

Report?... no. I just would like you to justify your statement. The NRA believes that every american has the right to own the same types of assault rifles used in recent mass murders, and these three are american citizens. Scream all your meemies you want, but the NRA says that these three have the right to own assault rifles, which points out the insanity of the NRA. But, go ahead, show me how the NRA doesn't support these americans' right to own an assault rifle. I think you just can't handle the truth. But , of course, with the intellect I see displayed by you two with your expansive arguments so far, I don't really expect too many syllables.

HMMMM...he was beat, tied and dragged by a truck. I doubt they would have needed to point a gun to his head. Even if they didn't have a gun, they would have carried out this horrible act. This has nothing to do with guns Robert.

Robert- you are incorrect. The NRA does not believe EVERY american should own assault rifles. Please tell me where they say that individuals who have mental issues should have an assault rifle. Please show me where they say that individuals who want to live the thug life and have unregistered weapons and kill little kids and innocent individuals should have an assault rifle. I do not agree with everything the NRA says but I know they do not say that.

This article isn't about guns so why don't you stop trying to make it out to be. I am so tired of both parties running their mouths about guns. Get off it.

Mindie, I agree with some, and disagree with some, of what you say. I grant you that if these people had mental problems, you are correct. But the NRA believes that ownership of assault rifles is a constitutional right, and these three are protected by that constitution and, therefor- according to the NRA- have a right to own assault rifles. First, had these people never been diagnosed with a mental illness (and, admittedly, I have no idea of these people's history), the NRA says they have a right to semi-automatic weapons. Second, even taking all of that into account, it is the NRA's lobbying that created the gun show loophole, where these three could go to a gunshow and buy any gun they wanted- including assault rifles- with no background check whatsoever.

Now, if a person were obligated to go through a mental evaluation before purchasing an assault rifle, and regulations were in place that would ABSOLUTELY guarantee that no one else could gain access to these weapons (the technology does exist to prevent the gun from being fired except by it's owner), than the argument would certainly change. But if knuckleheads like this can gain access to such devastating weapons, we have a problem. That the NRA simply refuses to acknowledge that is unsettling.

I certainly disagree with some of your post, but am grateful for your thoughtful discourse.

I agree that people like this should NOT have any type of gun. However, I don't believe that right should be taken away from responsible citizens. Do I own or want to own an assault rifle? No, I could care less, but I want the option of being able to purchase one. I don't know the entire story of these 3, but it sounds like they may have an alcohol problem. In Indiana, if a person has a history of alcohol abuse, the ability to buy guns is prohibited.

IndianaEngineer, I agree with you. But our laws currently don't take "responsible" into account. And they also don't take into account unausthorized people getting other people's weapons. A maniac can do the same damage with a 9mm handgun as an assault rifle, except for magazine size. Making sure that only COMPLETELY stable people own guns, making sure ONLY those owners can access their own weapons and limiting magazine size to what is legitimately useful is what is required. THAT'S my problem with the NRA- they fight these simple, "of course" objectives at every turn.
