Dexter Oliver, 22, is pictured in this undated photo from the San Francisco Police Department. He is charged with 11 felonies, after allegedly setting his girlfriend on fire.
The San Francisco District Attorney's Office has charged a 22-year-old man with 11 felonies after he allegedly set his girlfriend on fire over a dispute about who would carry the laundry.
"The acts of this defendant are despicable and he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement Thursday. "The cycle of domestic violence must end. This case illustrates how domestic violence is never an isolated incident but rather a pattern of physical and emotional abuse that increases in severity."
Dexter Oliver now faces charges that include attempted murder, aggravated mayhem and torture. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. He is currently on misdemeanor probation for violating a court order from a domestic violence incident in October 2011. His bail was set at $10 million. Attempts to reach Oliver's attorney were not immediately successful.
The charges stem from Jan. 6. Court documents allege Oliver threw flammable liquid on his 25-year-old girlfriend - Starr Lamare - and set her on fire, sending her to the hospital with life-threatening burns, which have rendered her unrecognizable.
Officers were called about noon to Hollister Avenue between Jennings Street and Ingalls Street near the Bayview district in San Francisco on reports of a woman screaming. When they arrived, they found that she had been severely burned.

Prosecutors revealed this week that the couple had an argument over who would carry the laundry. Lamare had asked Oliver to carry the dirty clothes to the laundromat a few blocks away, and documents allege that Oliver refused. Lamare went to the laundromat anyway.
While she was there, prosecutors said, Oliver grabbed two empty bottles of Pedia-Sure - a nutritional drink for children - and filled them with gasoline. He went to the laundromat, the documents indicate, threw the gas on her and set her on fire.
Those court allegations coincide with what Lamare's sister told NBC Bay Area immediately after the horrific crime.
"She said he had to get out and they were over," Lamare's sister, Precious Craig previously told NBC Bay Area. "And she left the laundromat and 10 minutes later, she was burned."
Family members said that Lamare and Oliver had been dating for six months and had a rocky relationship. Relatives also said that the couple was returning from the laundromat down the street, when Lamare told Oliver she wanted to break it up. Oliver allegedly returned home to get some gasoline, relatives and police said. The family had never before mentioned the incident about who would carry the dirty laundry.

Throw the book at him!
I think you should throw more than a book at him, more like a tone of bricks, or even a wreaking ball, or something like that...
This isn't normal. It isn't acceptable. Something is wrong, wrong, wrong with the food, water, air in this country and the last two or three generations born here are susceptible to the effects of it.
And I'm not kidding or being facetious. Someone needs to get cracking on the cause of the disconnect young people over the last three decades have had with basic human empathy and societal boundaries.
Forty years ago, even those raised in poverty and without decent parenting knew the boundaries in society they couldn't and shouldn't cross in order to live outside a prison cell, and most had some empathy and sympathy for both animals and fellow humans to some degree.
Actually, I remember conditions from 40 years ago, and it wasn't as good as you suggest it was. Things were just more hidden then, as "um,yeah..." says. Lots of alcoholics and domestic abuse, and cruelty to animals and people. It's rather like certain physical and psychological ills today: they're just more reported and made public. Nowadays, especially with the internet, such violent acts are broadcast all over the country, even outside our shores.
Republicans have done all they can to inflame violence in this country for decades. The Republican solution to our international problems is to go to war- talk and diplomacy are weaknesses. The Republican solution to crime is to arm whites and cage blacks. The Republican solution to political discourse is the anger and hatred of Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the screaming right wing media- intelligent thought is to be shouted down.
The thing that amazes me is that tax payers will support this guy for the next 60 or 80 years! Really? Where is the justice in that? This poor woman will suffer for the rest of her life and she will know that her attacker is in a jail where he can exercise, play basketball, etc. Get my drift?
R Warner; You don't make statement like that without being a racist. NO ONE wants to arm the whites and cage the blacks except YOU. The Republicans didn't do this, so crazy man did it. The violence is what we don't want whether we are "Republican" or "Democrat".
@screminmimi,
What about those "Chem Trails" that are every where now, what the hell are they putting in them any way?
I'm not trying to give this POS an excuse, but only trying to find the root cause for all the mayhem abounding as of late...
I hereby (third) the motion, that there is something wicked in this generation. What was this guy thinking? Surely he knew that he would be caught and punished.
But the worse thing is that he actually performed such a craven act on another human being by setting her on fire. I know it sounds very bad, but shooting her, would have been much more humane.
Maybe the conspiracy theorists are right. They are putting something into the vaccines, to genetically alter the brain chemistry of humans so they become demons. Only a demon would perform this act on another human being. Animals do not even act out this degree of vengeance on each other.
Look to the welfare state and you will see where the lack of values comes from. "Great Society" cost a lot of people their dignity.
Actually, domestic violence incidents like this are a lot LESS common than they used to be due to an increase of education and awareness of the average American over the last 100 years. An incident like this would have been covered up, just not talked about or even not reported because of the socio/economic status of the victim, say even 50 years ago. The media would NOT have reported something like this 50 years ago, as well. Actually, I would say values have gotten better over all, in this country. I will never forget my grandmother bemoanin' the fact that "stories like this one are best left untold, just like they used to be"....while I don't like hearing about these things either, I don't think they should be covered up like before.
Where does it say that he was receiving welfare?
There is seriously something wrong with society and I'd be curious as to what is happening to allow this decay and degradation of morality. If it's not this fool setting fire to a woman over laundry, it's three fools in Florida beating and dragging a man behind their truck. There needs to be much higher punishment for crimes such as this and a higher value invested in education.

um, yeah...., You're absolutely right. I remember the incidence of wife abuse to be very high even in the '60s and '70s. Husbands thought they had the right to "control" their wives and didn't hesitate to brutalize them to do it.
They keep letting these parasites out of jail till they do either try to kill someone or they are successful at it.Eleven felonies and he's still walking around.I guess he figured that it was womans work to carry the laundry.I hope he's the one carrying it in prison.
As I read the article, he's been charged with 11 felonies for this one incident, but only had a misdemeanor charge before that:

I can't even fathom a f-ing retard like this running around our streets. Take the judge that let this phuktard out and put him in jail as an accessory to the crime. NOT everybody is worth rehabilitation. Light this sucker on fire and watch.
Agree w/onermailliw.
If we could, we should order him to receive the treatment he gave her. These things would stop happening.
She will suffer every day of her life. I can't imagine looking in a mirror at what used to be my face, and seeing only melted scars. So sad.
Simple... Take him out in back of the jail. Instead of firing squad.. throw gasoline on him and light him up! WHY are we so phucking tolerant in this society?
Don't blame us for being tolerant. It was those stupid Founding Fathers and their dumb Bill of Rights that forced all this due process stuff.
We should just be like Iran and North Korea and take him out back or better yet, light him on fire. Why go with Thomas Jefferson when Kim il Jong and the Ayatollah's make so much more sense.
When our Veterans fought wars to defend the Constitution WITH THEIR LIVES, they were secretly hoping that one day, our Bill of Rights would be discarded and we would move toward a more totalitarian state. Tolerance? That's for a civilized society! Let's be more like Iran and let the mullahs and ayatollahs make the laws for us. They aren't tolerant.
obviously the due process crap don't matter when they can just fire missiles at you with a drone.
That's not a fight over laundry. That's a break up. I'm not trying to justify what this POS did. I hope he sits in jail for 30+ years because of what he did.
But show some journalistic integrity. This was not a fight about "laundry" as the headline implies. This was a break up.
LOCK HIM UP....
Ridiculous. They should let him out. He should be giving relationship counseling courses.
I mean when I got into fights with my gf I always tried "Biatch, STFU!".
It never worked! I never thought about lighter fluid.
Brilliant strategy. Nothing says STFU like a can of lighter fluid and match. Much more effective.
Why? Because biatches just simply don't respond to verbal cues.
Why because you need to lay down the law and this simply can't be done verbally.
I mean he laid down the law, like a man, and now everyone thinks he should do jail time.
What's that about? ***shrug
This is the problem with American women. They don't know their place.
When a man says "biatch, do laundry", there is no talking back. No sassing.
Holy Writ says that a woman is supposed to entreat her husband as a daughter would her father, that equals no sassing.
I mean the second she opened her mouth to question his authority to tell her to do laundry she was in violation of divine law. I mean if she doesn't respect God's authority, do you think she is going to respect "Biatch, do laundry" Absolutely the F not.
The second she questions Holy Writ and God's authority you simply break out the lighter fluid. You don't have to actually use it, just brandish it around. Hold it up, smile at her while pointing at the bottle of lighter fluid. "See this, biatch"
This is what is cool about Islamic women, when their man says "Biatch, do laundry" They put on their burqa or habib, whatever it is called, and they bow their heads with supplication.
You don't even have to tell Islamic women to laundry! Their self motivated!
Why? Because respect Holy Writ!
I had a roommate in college who would never do dishes...
Never thought of this.
Brilliant tactic.
11 felonies and out of prison in 2 years
Prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, yea, california law...Life with complete medical,clothed,housed,TV,3 a day,all the amenities of prison life.Yea that's real punishment and he'll be up for parole in a few...
Its not really clear, but putting 2 and 2 together...she was dumping him because she realized he was a lazy good for nothing free loading POS, and he has entitlement and anger issues so he had to retaliate.
Life in prison is too good for this trash. So sorry she has to suffer for having gotten involved with him.
There is two distinct civilizations in the US...there is the family oriented civilization and their is the tribal civilization...when the earliest European settlers came to America they were faced with a tribal civilization - the American Indian...and the tribal civilization was wiped out as Europeans spread across America...then the European settlers brought slaves from tribal civilizations...then shortly after the Civil War the slaves were freed...since that time the black population has pursued 2 paths...one path assimilation into the European family culture...the other path continued the tribal culture...time will take care of the tribal culture as the people are wiped out of the European family culture...this man acted as a tribal savage in the incident and the family oriented society reacted in abhorrence to the savage...
Send this pos to jail for life.
The perpetrator has this vacant and distant look in his eyes. Kind of like your looking at a fish. He aint none too bright. I just wish there was a pic of his "ex"-girlfriend.
Was she a large woman? Was she attractive? Did she have a job?
"She said he had to get out and they were over"... Was this said in "ghetto" language?? I mean, did she possibly say "you haves to gets out of mine house" or something like that?
It's things like this I need to know to be able to gauge how much I really care.
Let me guess - the taxpayers are really going to get screwed by this whole thing.
Thank you Lord for this article, I now know what "pedia-sure" is!
I don't want to live on this stupid planet anymore. Spock beam me up now!
