Members of the Perry County Sheriff Office respond to the scene at Hazard Community College, Jan. 15, after a shooting at the school in Hazard, Ky. Authorities say two people were shot and killed and a teen was wounded in the parking lot.

Updated 12:50 a.m. ET: Two people were killed and a teenager was wounded in the parking lot of a Kentucky community college, authorities said.

The shooting took place before 6 p.m. at Hazard Community and Technical College, according to LEX18.com. The teenager was flown to the University of Kentucky hospital, 120 miles away.

Hazard Police Chief Minor Allen said the shooting could be could be related to a domestic situation, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. The suspect, identified by police as Dalton Stidham, turned himself in to Kentucky State Police, the Herald-Leader reported. Police said Stidham faced two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, according to WLEX TV.

Police identified the victims as Caitlin Cornett and her uncle, Jackie Cornett. The injured teen is Jackie Cornett's daughter, WLEX reported.

Caitlin Cornett was a student at the college, according to a WLEX reporter. Hazard Assistant Chief Joe Engle told the Herald-Leader that preliminary information indicated that Stidham and Caitlin Cornett had a child in common and were meeting in a parking lot of the school to exchange the child for visitation.

A notice on the school’s website said that an “incident” had occurred on campus, adding, “We ask that you please stay away from campus at this time.”

The college's academic programs range from associate's degrees in arts and sciences to career-focused training in mining technology and heavy-equipment operation.

so the only sensible solution is to ban all guns in the country ???

to go from house to house and confiscate all guns already out there ???

Another liberal with a gun... Geez, you guys have made your point! Can we at least get a cease-fire until we see what your president is actually going to do? If you're not happy, you can immediately go back to murdering people and blaming the NRA.

Incidentally, when was the last time a NRA member was the shooter in a high profile story...? Anyone?

Obama doubled the debt in four years, doubled the Afghanistan war deaths in four years, and now the school shootings have spiked up drastically. Obama seems to be the common denominator. No matter how you measure it, that treasonous kunt is a failure.

you people here play along with the media every time.

shootings every damn day in the country, mainly in the streets of chicago and this article here makes the headlines.

fact is, if all we heard about were the ganbangers and the common thug killing each other not a damn one of you would even be here to comment or crying for gun control.

but the great puppeteers have you all twisted as you play along in their political agenda games.

enjoy, hope the puppeteers don't keep you up too late.

Not much information to write a comment. No matter what laws they will pass because of these school shootings nothing will work they way they think it will. Remember all of these school shootings are not done by criminals they're regular people like you and have some mental issues but are not criminals!. If I was a criminal and needed more ammo but they have a new law requiring a background check big deal I would simply rob the store and not pay for them. So with that said, how are these new laws going to do any good?. I would get a gun from a drug dealer or simply steal one from you. See how more laws will not work yet?.

At least 18 murdered in Chicago within the first 10 days of the year

Now there is gun control at it's best, don't take my word for it, google it for yourself. I bet I can guess what is next, more gun control until all guns are banned in Chicago. What happens when that does nothing but increase the murder rate? This task force that Obama put to gather with Biden leading it is a joke at best, they are pulling the wool over the eyes of the gullible once again.

I remember that the drug thugs have been 'eliminating' police officers that don't 'cooperate'. So, in Mexico, even a 911 call can't get you a friendly gun hand. Sort of understand our immigration problem now.

The saddest thing about gun control is that not one law passed so far has ever worked because of the way the state works to enforce the laws. Felons are not suppose to own or buy guns, yet the state refuses to arrest these people stating "we don't have the time to bother with such things", so how are any new guns laws going to work any better.

Someone made the point that these stories make the new because we are drawn to blood and guts drama of mass shooting, well guess what the shooters know that too! Maybe if it wasn't reported a hundred times a day across the nation, mass shooting would drop off and stop, because there would be no audience for the shooter to have their five minutes of fame in front of, and I hold the main stream media as responsible for the shootings as the killer, the media is doing everything under the sun to give these nut cases a stage to preform on and they know it. It's a sad day when media will devalue a human life so much, get to get the ratings up.

A true mad man once said:"To truly control a nation, one must first disarm it" ( Hitler 1936) It is even sadder that we are so unwilling to learn from the past that we are doom to live it again.

ultimately this will result in a new illegal gun smuggling from mexico.....now that i cant wait to see.

hahaha, the feds cant even deal with the drugs and illegal immigrants crossing the border, they sure as hell wont be able eo deal with the guns.

all hell will break loose when those guns hit the streets and reach the hands of criminals.....cant wait for that day, what will the people do then?

So you all realize that the media will be playing and hyping up this kind of news because of the gun control bill they want, right? You realize that, right....I mean sad as it may seem this happens everyday in America, so it's really nothing new only sad but sadder that the media and maybe even some celebs will get in on this good publicity for them.....sorry to seem cynical but that what America enjoys...being kept in fear of their safety.....

This article from No Basic Content news (a Liberal mouthpiece) is just another attempt to whip up the paranoid, fear mongering, anti-gun nuts into a frenzy. Their paranoid psychosis is triggered by this. It's sad that people feel they need to kill others. It's also sad that the freak show of Tin Brains come out in droves to use these tragedies to further their agenda.

Funny the government doesn't want this to be known.....
Almost every shooting that took place in a school in the USA was by someone who was on anti-depressants (Ritalin, Prozac), and the drug companies knew for years that they caused kids to have suicidal thoughts, or would drive them to kill people they knew out of fear (by altering their mind). ADHD is not a disease, it was made up by drug companies to sell drugs. Most countries in Europe ban these drugs because they are so dangerous ( and have been found to damage every organ in the body), so why are we so willing to put kids on them here. Because the drug companies pay off congress to keep selling them.
If you want gun control to work, start by letting the kids in prison out for smoking a joint that got ten years in prison. Start putting in the real criminals who use weapons to commit crimes and keep them in, instead of sentencing them to 10 to 20 years and letting them out in 2 years on some dumb rehab program. Stop treating students like they are in prison and turn our schools back into schools for education, not intimidation and compliance control centers for the government. And above all, enforce the laws on the books we have already to are suppose to keep guns out of criminal hand to begin with.
I don't own any weapons, but I firmly believe in the "Bill of Rights" and the right of every responsible citizen to own any weapon they want and not be treated like a criminal for doing nothing wrong to begin with.
We have no one to blame when we willingly sacrifice our rights in the believe we will be safer, only to find out that the rights we gave up were the very thing that guaranteed us safety in the first place.

Frustration and rage…coping skills…emotions and intent…blah blah. We have all been “charged” up over the last few years to completely hate each other. Republican vs. Democrat, Rich vs. Poor, White vs. Black, Liberal
vs. Conservative, MSN vs. Fox…; heck look at the debate between Sarah and Trent (and I’m sure they’ve never met…they just don’t agree with each other). This headline was a couple who got into an altercation and someone’s rage resulted in someone’s death. The weapon of choice really doesn’t matter. We will soon be discussing the student who shot his Financial Advisor yesterday and yell about another school shooting, but not recognize that a student felt taking a life was justifiable because he/she disagreed with a decision made by the advisor or someone else?...really doesn’t matter, the problem is the student felt justified (weapon immaterial). I know you’re going to pounce on and say “That’s ridiculous…if they didn’t have a gun, then the (insert victim) would still be alive)”. Really, and would we be discussing this headline had the ex used say…a knife, baseball bat, or since they were in a parking lot…what about the tire iron in the trunk (the victim would be just as dead). We are debating this because the media used the words Shooting (Guns) and College (School) in the same headline (and this is the newest “bait your base” buzzword). Meanwhile kids are being killed in most metropolitan areas nightly and not one word… we waste millions to billions creating Czars and agencies to identify the problems that we already know is there. Stop the insanity and bickering and cancel the
pork in DC and move the money to the people. Let’s pay for education programs, community centers, city/intermural sports, youth clubs, and jobs…give the kids something to do and show the value of work, pride, selfless service and improve their sense of community and pride (and compassion for others). If the anti-gun
movement thinks it’s bad now…keep letting the countries morals and economy slip, all the while asking honest hard working people to pay the bills for others (taxes) and persecuting people for their religion (the other Liberal/Conservative dogma in the media), and then have our leaders and their base poke jabs at them and call them “gun nuts” (posted many times by members on this forum)…keep lathering them up and then
act totally shocked when they “fight back”. They will be armed when the house of cards comes down and you will stand opposed with your stinging words of sarcasm…good luck with that “knife” to a gunfight scenario.
