A professor who beat his wife to death as she wrapped Christmas gifts is set to be paroled after five years in prison.
Ellen Gregory Robb was murdered by Dr. Rafael Robb in December 2006 in a bid to avoid a costly divorce.
Now 61, the former University of Pennsylvania professor is scheduled to be freed on Jan. 28.
However, the victim's family is appalled that Robb has been granted parole on his first attempt.
The victim's brother, Gary Gregory, remembered arriving at the crime scene. It was the day his sister was supposed to start a fresh life, he said, because she was leaving her husband.
"I drove up to the house, I saw them loading her body in the ambulance," Gregory recalled. "The judge said this is the most horrific crime ever in Montgomery County. Now he's being set free."
The attorney who represented Robb said his client had served his time.
The parole board would not comment on the case aside from a written notice sent to Robb which outlines the reasons he's being freed.
The statement said he'd taken responsibility for his crime and has shown good behavior.
That's not good enough for Gregory, who is now helping to raise his slain sister's daughter.
"This isn't a shoplifting case. He took someone's life," he added. "That's wrong."

Let's see, killed wife to avoid costly divorce? Premeditation.
Well behaved while incarcerated? Big deal.
Citizens have only themselves to blame. They need to yell at their legislators for them to cut down on judicial discretion at sentencing, and to tighten down the parole rules.
By all logic this joker should have remained in prison for at least 25 years.
Disgusting. Our pathetic liberal "justice" system is starting to look more and more like Europe's.
And U.S. prisons are full of people doing 10 years for a few joints of weed. Our judicial system is a joke and is extreme on both ends....
And we wonder WHY there are is so much killing these days. So much lack of respect for life.
When the courts/prisons show they have no respect for it,,,why should the rest of us?
JHMFQC. Unbelievable, unconscionable, that premeditated murder gets five years.
He pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter. You should blame the prosecutor not the parole board. Also, the family was at the sentencing hearing and called it at least partial closure, so they were privi to the deal. 5-10 is what it is. The parole had to release him after five years if he had a good prison record.
This couple had a deep history of domestic violence it seems, and the prosecutor considered that into his decision. Why the prosecutor decided to sidestep the cover up by the good Doctor, is beyond me. He should have been convicted of 2nd Degree Murder, and obstruction of justice, which would have carried considerable more time. Bruce Caster was the District Attorney, ask him.
Robb pleaded guilty in November 2007 to voluntary manslaughter in the high-profile death of his wife, Ellen Gregory Robb. She was bludgeoned to death with a chin-up bar.[6] Her death occurred during a December 22, 2006 argument over the couple's divorce and the plans for their home in Wayne, Pennsylvania.[7] Robb pleaded guilty on November 26, 2007, and resigned from the university, where he had been on leave since his arrest in January 2007.[8] Robb was sentenced on November 19, 2008 to a 5- to 10-year prison term. He will be eligible for parole in 2012.[6]
Yup, this is the American way. Our Laws are in serious need of an overhaul and alignment.
Now, if Ellen Gregory was related to the Judge, we wouldn't be reading this story for another 20 yrs. WTF man....
G-Dog, this a commonplace occurrence, where professional or wealthy people get softer treatment than ordinary people. Only way to stop it is to analyze voting behavior of elected officials, and systematically vote tham out, and vote in people with more fair values. In other words: "do the crime, do the time"! age, education social standing, wealth should mean nothing on sentencing day!
maybe the old saying stands true; money talks, BS walks.
I would not blame any of the victim's family members if they caught and hung this man within days of him being released. If the government is unwilling to serve justice for someone who commits murder, then citizens have a right to carry it out. This guy beat his wife to death while she was wrapping up Christmas presents just so he could save money on a divorce. Do you really think someone this cold blooded and calculating has been reformed after only 5 short years in jail? It is like the justice system is rewarding him. I bet this professor studied up on parole protocols before he even killed his wife so he could be pretty sure he wouldn't spend much time in jail.
This is aweful. Since he murdered ... he should receive the full punishment determined. This business of parole in 5 years of murder is stupid.
However the idiots from right waste no time to criticize liberals. Get this - A) The parole system saves money which is what you on right want. So let's increase taxes so that we can keep these people some more time. B) There are hundreds of thousands cases in the history where there were wrongful convictions - which is what drives liberals to stand for those cases and get those people back to "normal" life. Of course this case is not one of those which is why this "liberal" spoke against this professor's parole.
Unfortunately there's no rhyme or reason on how justice is doled out in this country....we pretend to have a guide(laws) but we have no reasonable way to interpret and implement them correctly.
In a case like this where it looks like this man murdered for his own benefit (and we don't know the real reason), my gut feeling would be to hand a life sentence, no parole. After all, he did hand out a life sentence.
In other cases, completely innocent people are going to jail and spending years in jail, what's up with that? Well, it all has to do with money and if you have it you can buy your own justice.
Here is a prime example of what's wrong with America, how long would he have served if he used a black rifle? The judicial system is broke, the governments answer is to restrict bullet counts and certain guns.
Disgusting. Where is the justice in this?
In a similar story, Christy Shaffer murdered 16 month old Alissa Guernsey in 2009. Although the autopsy clearly stated that the manner of death was homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head, Christy was charged only with felony neglect and was released from prison after serving just 77 days. The reason for this? The prosecutor and judge were both friends with Christy's father.
You can read more about the case here: http://www.facebook.com/BabyAlissaCriesForJustice.org/info?ref=ts#!/BabyAlissaCriesForJustice.org
That's a horrible thing to do on Christmas, she should have chosen another day to leave him.
White collar
White collars receive special considerations all the time.
White Collar vs blue collar the White collar person always receives less years and punishment. Fact if they are white collar they are treated with white gloves.
Du Pont murdered a wrestler coach, got 3 years in plush mental ward.
White collar always get a better deal.
-- Jan. 26, 1996 -- U.S. freestyle wrestler and coach Dave Schultz was murdered by multimillionaire John du Pont at his Foxcatcher estate in Newtown Square, Pa. outside Philadelphia.
Schultz, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist, was training for the 1996 Atlanta Games and coaching the Team Foxcatcher squad at du Pont's state-of-the-art wrestling facility on the estate grounds.
On that snowy Friday a decade-and-a-half ago, Schultz was working on his car outdoors when du Pont, riding in the passenger seat of his chauffeured Lincoln Town Car, fired a total of three shots at the wrestler from the open car window. Schultz was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital that afternoon.
After the shooting, du Pont barricaded himself in his mansion for two days before being captured by the police.
In 1997, du Pont stood trial for the murder of Dave Schultz. After deliberating a week, the jury determined that du Pont was mentally ill, and found him guilty of third-degree murder.

I bullit cost less then a buck and you never half to feed them and most likely would be free. I'm sure one of the family members would donate to the program lowering taxes by billions a year. When you don't feed sh#t It don't make Sh#t. Maybe sneak a couple LIBERALS in the line now and then.
Wayne
buck up! eye for an eye! it works!
JK ... she needed to leave him when she got the strength to do it. Holiday season or not. Don't blame the victim. It's too bad she didn't get out before she married the psycho.
We don't have room in prisons for violent offenders because we have them full of people caught smoking a joint.
If you want a resemblance of justice end the war on drugs.
JK - are you kidding me with your ignorance?
To actually BLAME the woman for "choosing the wrong time" - to leave the man? The MOST dangerous time for ANY COUPLE - man OR woman - but especially a woman - is during a separation, or divorce.
Get educated - get a clue - and stop blaming ANY person - for situations about which you apparently know nothing!
5 years for killing someone?
maybe im crazy, but it seems like if your actions (whether intentional or not) result in the death of someone else, then you should be sitting in prison for at least 15 years at a min.
im not talking about people who committ suicide because you called them ugly and stupid, im talking about any physical crime that results in another persons death - such as drunk driving, lashing out during a heated arguement, hitting someone walking on the street because you were texting, and so on.
and it should be a min of 25 years for the cases in which even the slightest hint of premeditation occured.
and life for anyone who clearly premeditated the murder.
under my set of rules - this guy would still be in prison for another 20 years and so would Casey Anthony.
Intent to commit murder should be an automatic life sentence. Who is to say this guy won't do it again knowing how easily he basically got away with it this time. You see it all the time in the "Based on a True Story" movies on Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) and the ID channel. These guys are likely to do it again. No one is safe when this guy is released from prison regardless if he is on parole.
Just curious, how much did this guy pay the prosecutor to side with him over the victim? The way I see it, the prosecutor did a poor representation of the victim...just like a typical politician who ignores the voters that elected him into office.
Worse yet, you can bet your bottom that the attorney is already mapping out pre-trial motions to regain custody of this murderers daughter, from her mothers brother.
The Montgomery Co prosecuter, if still in office, should be removed on the basis of incompetence. Removal of the parole board should follow.
5yrs is the sentence most will recieve for an accidental death charge. The bleeding heart liberals have put a very low price-tag on life, and as a result is a leading cause for the homicide rate in our nation.
And if Dr. Rafael Robb goes on a killing spree in a couple of years like convicted killer William Spengler did in Webster New York in December, we can all expect even more calls for tighter gun control, right?
@wayne STFU. First learn to write.
Totally false. Actually there is far less "killing" going on in the world at this time than in most of history. It is the this bizarre pessimism and negativity based on such false perceptions that is tearing us apart.
That said, this is a ridiculous case. What was the parole board thinking?
What an f'ing joke! Total failure of our justice system. Hey he has been good during his time here, so clearly his is ok and should be let back out, we'll just call what happened 5 yrs ago a bad day and leave at that, we all have those every now and then don't we??? Besides we have all these violent, scum of the earth, evil pot heads that we have to lock up.
If there is any wonder why we all continue to trust our government less and less and keep dividing up evermore into groups against each other this is one reason why. No more far right or far left, we need to end this nonsense now.
This sick pos should be either lockedup for life or given a lead shot, end of story. In the end I'd say he basically did get away with murder, just took the scenic route to get there is all.
It is time
LadyCoastGuard -
I thought I was kidding you with my wit. It is never a good time to murder your spouse.
If killing the unborn child is ok .... then we will kill anything and be good with it.
This country needs to adopt a wider use of the death penalty. Kill, not in self defense, and you should automatically get the death penalty. If you have that little respect for human life that you would take another, you don't deserve yours. I'm sick and tired of all the sympathy and kind treatment towards murderers and rapists.
"how long would he have served if he used a black rifle?"
Good question Ken, and what if he were a black man who used a black rifle?? Life with no possibility of parole would be the guess if he had a lucky day.
As strange as this sounds, I do not blame the parole board: I blame the original judge for sentencing him to ONLY 5-10 years. This guy would have gotten out in less than 5 more years regardless, when he should have been serving at least 25 to life. With an appropriate sentence, he never would have been up for parole in the first place. Parole boards are tasked not with judging the crime, but judging the behavior and rehabilitation since being incarcerated, and they did that.
Kevin,
Point taken.
What I'll never understand is how this guy can walk after 5 yrs for murder and the Priest in the other story get 20yrs and a 2 million dollar fine for selling speed.
Boggles the mind man...
@Creek Dog, there is no question that sentencing for various crimes is ALL over the map. It really does make my head spin sometimes.
five years for a homicide
10 years for cheating on your taxes (unless you are a congressperson or the treasurer of the united states)
20 years for having a pound of marijuana
something is really screwed up.
What is disgusting is the prosecutor who gave him the gift of a plea deal that allowed him to only serve 5 years. The prosecutor offered him a plea to voluntary manslaughter with a sentence of 5-10 years when they should have gone for a conviction on second degree murder with a sentence of 25 to life. At a minimum, a plea deal should have called for first degree manslaughter with a sentence of 15 years, not the 5-10 years gift this guy got. I wonder why the prosecutor went so light on this murderer?!?! This was an extremely lenient plea deal and the judge should never have allowed it to go through. Just because the prosecutor and the defense agree on a plea does not mean the judge has to accept it, particularly when it is so ridiculously light of a sentence.
OMG...not a black rifle?!!! Best to bludgeon her to death with a ball bat, as he probably did. It's cheaper...and there's no waiting period. Twenty or so cracks to the cranium, and you're done.
And the headline will read.......
Paroled Professor Goes On Rampage..... Firearm to be blamed for murders
John,
He used a chin-up bar.
stupid...stupid....stupid....stupid....who the hell is on this parole board anyway? like seriously WTF.....this just make you want to take a shot of jacks and crawl back to bed
@Saxon (#1.39): Excellent point. My concern is that setting a precedent of light sentences or early release for such a heinous crime will promote similar offenses in the future, especially if there is much at stake in the divorce (e.g., children and a lot of money).
I know its ridiculous for me to try to bring logic to this discussion but the judge cannot give any sentence he wants but must give one in line with the sentencing guidelines for the crime this guy pled guilty to. The prosecutor may not have had enough evidence to support a charge greater than the one he accepted and if he tried to go to trial for murder without sufficient evidence the guy could have gotten off completely. Do I think its too short a sentence, yes. Do I know all the facts, no. And neither does anyone else here.
Most all of the comments above are so accurate. Having worked in a level 4 institution--muderers are treated as if they did nothing. It is time these people are held accountable. 5 years is such a slap in face for law abiding citizens. This man should never see the light of day. Naked on an ant hill sounds appropriate!!!
Obviously, there are more circumstances here, than those described by NBC news. Please note they didn't embed the parole board's full report in their story. I'm not saying it's right to kill your wife (or your husband). But, I am saying that the people most closely connected to the case (aside from the victim's family) say he's served his time, and he's ready to re-join society. Whether we like that or not, their has to be a reason for it.
Unreal!! Our liberal system of justice is such a failure to society!! DEATH PENALTY should have been applied and USED on this creep!! And no more than a couple of years to go thru the paperwork, or what is needed to go thru the system. There is no reason he should see the light of day again! 5 years and he is free? Do we really want killers running around free after a few years in prison? Who have a high chance of killing again?
Liberals are killing this country, literally.
Can there be a clearer reason for DETERMINANT SENTENCING? Im old enough to remember what it was like back in the good ole days and I can tell you when someone committed a crime they knew the penalty for that crime BEFORE they committed it. Now its lets make a deal. D.A.s are like used car salesmen. 95% of all those who are caught plead deals. Only 5% go to trial. Its the fuel that keeps the revolving door justice system running. Stop this. Demand that your jurisdiction have determinant sentencing for ALL FELONIES. This WILL save lives. Politicians wont like it cause they will have to get off their asses and work for a living instead of handing out deals.
Her brother should go kill that murderer. All he has to do is "behave" for five years in jail and it's done. There's a lot of people who need killing if the penalty is only five years. What a joke.
well since they dont actually punish the killers I guess they will be coming after what ever he beat her to death. He didnt use an "assult" weapon or did he? If he used a bat or something else did he assult her with THAT weapon?? Sooooo, that makes it an assult weapon doesnt it? You just cant figure our fearless leaders out. OH maybe we can on ONE thing...confiscating our guns. Like bozo said, if we can save one life its worth a try.
sieg heil bozo.
Meanwhile, there are 14 year old kids in Pennsylvania serving life without parole for a single violent act too!
One thing I love about Newsvine. Guy gets paroled and his article comments run the gamut of marijuana legalization, abortion, bribery, gun control, taxes, Casey Anthony, and a whole lot of 'liberal this, liberal that' whining.

(p.s. newsviners, stop collapsing my jokes)
Hopefully someone beats this assclown to death when he gets out.
Chris, I usually dont agree with you or your opinions but you nailed this one. I usually come to the Vine for a good laugh. I can always count on someone turning something into politics.
Yet Ray Lewis gets no time for his murder and people celebrate him and make him their role model. hypocrites.

The Montgomery Co prosecuter, if still in office, should be removed on the basis of incompetence. Removal of the parole board should follow.
-------------------first of all, were you there to experience the details of the case? Were you there for the trial/plea bargan? Me thinks not. So unless you have some experience in legal matters and know what exactly went down in this case, your post, like many other, is ludicrous. As to the parole board, do you know how it functions? So you know what their legal responsibilities are? Again, me thinks not. They didn't set the sentence. They deal under certain guidelines so quit blaming them.
Just look at your own experience. How many times do you hear or read something from a poster who never served in the military, let alone somewhere like Nam. How much of what you read or hear is factual? How many of those people are experts? Same thing applies with this story. I am so fed up with all the barnyard posters who post on subjects they haven't a clue about. Rant, rant, rant is all too many folks can do anymore. Thinking for one's self any more is something way too many people can not due. And you wonder why this country is in the shape it's in.
truetexan
liberalism IS the problem with America! Its a cancer!
---and you are a brain dead moron. The only cancer in this country are narrow minded individuals like yourself. Of course I expect nothing less from a texan. After all you've been governed by the likes of george bush and Rick Perry.
I would venture to guess the photo as your avatar is pretty appropriate for your political views.
You are criticizing him for his own thinking while telling him he cant think for himself. Its called an opinion. Just sayin. And NO my avatar (if you will put your glasses on) is that of our dicktator (yes I know how I spelled it) bozo. I will also take Texas and our leaders over ANY of the northern ones I have seen foaming at the mouth making NO sense lately. Do some research, we dont give a rats a$$ what bozo says or does. We have our own rules here. Bozo is doing (I would venture that you support him) exactly what he has planned all along. Divide this country and probably wants a civil war. HE IS CLOSER THAN YOU KNOW!!
imwhitewolf
- you are a jackass and an idiot. Stop jumping on people's cases thinking you are a know it all. George Bush is 1000 times better than the moron in office now. Narrow minded? If someone doesn't believe in abortion, that is narrow minded? Or if someone doesn't want the US Constitution ignored, that's narrow minded? You have no logic but ignorance in your statement. The parole board knows for a fact he spent 5 years in prison. They can absolutely deny parole due to this fact when the crime is MURDER. YOU ARE A MORON! Go back to jacking off to hilary clinton pictures and shut the hell up.
No clue why that double posted. Sorry.
Obamalogic aka liberal-logic is this... let's ban a weapon because it kills people even though it saves more lives... the same weapon that protects the one that wants to ban them. Also, in the same breath let's say abortion is fine because it's a "constitutional right"... although, last time I checked, murder is against the law and possessing weapons is a constitutional right.
So, if narrow minded is not being a total hypocrite, than i will gladly be narrow minded over hypocrite.
To those who are ignorantly posting that this has ANYTHING to do with liberals or Obama - get a life. This is disgusting and totally unacceptable for anyone - and I'm a liberal. I don't know of a single person who would agree with letting this monster out. He should be in for life - or executed - nothing less.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
With this kind of justice it won't matter what kind of weapons we have on the street.
The collapse of our society continues on the back of our criminal liberal justice system. This is what happens when political correctness consumes common sense. This human excrement should be in jail for life. Personally I would have sentenced him to death.
@youdontknowjack...Also, in the same breath let's say abortion is fine because it's a "constitutional right"... although, last time I checked, murder is against the law and possessing weapons is a constitutional right.
You forgot that its not murder if its the killing of our MOST innocent. The unborn child. THAT is sick! And libs couldnt care less about (as they think) our out of date constitution. Libs make me sick. As I said...a cancer on America.
Nazi Jack Off !
SRK-2447627
Right because what we really need is our prisons filled with people serving mandatory sentences that they do not deserve. Surely you can't actually believe that alternative would be better?
The justice system will never be perfect. NEVER! That is why we err on the side of letting the guilty go free rather than allowing the innocent to be punished.
Yeah, liberalism is a cancer and rightwing facism is the cure, right?
Remind me again the wingnut mindset:
-Their solution to an American problem of 300 million guns on the street is to make it 600 million
-Their solution to avoiding a police state in order to keep our kids safe is to put armed men inside our schools mandated by the state. They hate the TSA searching kids at the airport but having them search in their own schools is A-OK with them.
- They hate when people propose that guns are the problem in the increase in gun violence - "Guns don't kill people, people do." - but their solution is to ban video games with guns in them because guns don't kill people, people who play video games with gun in them kill people. Or guns don't kill people but movies with gun violence in them kill people. Rock music doesn't cause a culture of gun violence, but rap music does. Guys who hoarde gun arsenals aren't the problem, kids who stumble across their parent's arsenals are.
-They hold the crime rates among certain groups in Europe as a model of anti-culturalism, but then decry Europe as a liberal wasteland. Europe's this supposed white utopia to these folks, but they cannot stand their welfare state, improved standards of living and healthcare such brings, or the higher educational outcomes they produce because America's so damned exceptional (except, in their minds, all the ways America is a great big failure)
Yall wingnuts gotta make up your minds what you believe and come with a bit more consistency than that. You just end up sounding like children who will throw a tantrum to keep your little toys and will wreck the whole game when forced to have to share them with others in the sandbox.
no thats bozo nazi jack off, you jack off! Guess you need glass also OR...your head is buried where the sun doesnt shine. Which is it?
The problem ciew is you libs arent smart enough to figure anything out. You cant understand logic so you scew it and twist it so everyone else thinks it doesnt make sense. Empty headed libs will NEVER understand logic. Thats ok, its really not your fault you were born stupid. It IS your fault that you refuse to learn! Now go back to studying your liberal "logic" 101. Liberals are a cancer!!
hey truetexan, learn to spell then you can start talking about smarts, right wing nut job tea bagger
Creek Dog, #1.7- WTF, alright! I was your 59th Vote!
the guy was WHITE why is everyone acting sooooooooooo shocked
@youdon"tknowjack ray lewis didnt muredr anyone!!! man american have a 5 min attention span...his friend stabbed someone which they found was self defense and no one went to prison
chin up bars...is there a back ground check...before selling them...well there you go that's the problem...sure it is...
The problem with America is the South, and I personally think that it is too bad that the South didn't win a ceasefire in the Civil War as today America would be a very liberal country without having to bend to Southern conservatism all the time.

The wheels of justice are turned by gold. Same old story just a different time in history. Why are our laws in Latin? We know why there is a scale and blindfold on lady of justice. Tip the scale and she looks the other way.
Boy! That "TrueTexan" sure is an angry sort. What do you think folks? It could be Rick Perry for all we know. Based on the sentence struture, spelling, and grammar I would say that might be a good bet. Rick its your fault that this guy went free because you could not remember that third agency you were going to close.....turns out it was the Dept. of Justice!
And how many states did bozo say he had visited? Can you say 57? Talk about an idiot! Now go back to bed randog you welfare check has already hit the bank. BTW, NOT angry...FED UP!
Starting a new life while wrapping gifts? Probably a fight that ended badly. I think the parole board knows more than this reporter.
He beat her to death ! i've seen people do more time for killing a dog. just taking a guess but bet your a libby ?
michigan, how do you know takenaka's real name? Or are you just being silly? why the name calling?
Michigan, TiredVoter,
meet Takenada,
GM Takenada...
BAN chin-up bars!
Good morning everybody, just had to get this in on him.
Harley Mike...your chin-up bar comment is irrelevent to gun violence or any violence for that matter. And neither is your comparison of chin-up bars to guns. Chin-up bars where not manufactured with the intent to kill something. Explain to me what guns are manufactured for? Here, let me help you with this trick question....guns are manufactured to KILL!!! I bet you would compare a banana to the moon. *rolling eyes*
Miss Julieann;
My post was meant for nothing more than to get a sarcastic dig at Takenada.
If you will go to my profile page and read some of my previous postings you will see I try to keep a level and even discussion going, but Mr. Takenada without any provocation will start that post to "Ban all hand guns" and he keeps posting it repeatedly. To everyones annoyance, and does not offer any insight, statistics, or facts or other forms of intelligent conversation. Henceforth, MY jumping in here with My sarcastic post.
Dry humor. Nothing more, nothing less. And I promise not to repeatedly keep posting it here in this thread.
Just think, I would have been out by now. Long history of domestic violence, and that makes it "okay"? I could have done in my exhusband, done my five, and lived happily ever after. Darn, and I even have a chin-up bar, too.
Julieann, you are a moron. Who cares?? The biggest mass murders in the US were done with bombs, IN SCHOOLS - KILLING CHILDREN. And so what? You damn right guns are for killing! If someone breaks into my house with the intent to KILL ME or one of my children I'm not going to spritz them with Windex. I'm going to shoot them with my gun.
Julieann, it looks like YOU are the one with an agenda to push. But you still try to push it off as if you aren't the agenda pusher. You fail this time.
I don't know all the facts for this case unfortunately, but this a a WTF moment for the lack of justice system and the ACLU.
Maybe he and an assistant coach were good friends.
Julieann
I own several guns and shoot them all the time. Most of them have never killed a thing. So much for your argument.
The victim was only a woman. They are like grass to the reaper, cut down regularly with no regret and little consequence to the killer.
Many rich people in prison. One of the Kennedy clan, Skale or Shankle or some name like that, just denied parole for a high school murder, guy in Florida, polo club owner, for a drunk driving wreck, A Rockefeller for killing his boyfriend, and that what's-his-name rock star in CA that killed his girlfriend, a couple of IL governors in the joint & a few wealthy white collar criminals doing long prison time.
Revolving door justice? Nut cases handling this?
The killer was a professor at the University of PA. Any connection to the RC church that runs the place? You know, the ones who kept that former football coach, who is now jailed, loose on the young boys?
There has to be more to this travesty than appears here. Unbelievable.
Earth...don't go spreading tales, the Church has nothing to do with the Univ of PA, nor Penn state either.
University of Pennsylvania is a different school. You are thinking of Penn State.
Anita-2036926
THIS story involves a story from UoP. Earth was implying that the Roman Catholic church was involved with one or the other. Janine corrected that view.
So what? The countless American women that murder, abuse, slaughter, and otherwise eliminate their husbands, boyfriends, and lovers generally receive probation, followed with movie and book deals - and it's never in the news, it winds up on the cupcake channel.
I wonder if you'd feel the same way if it was your mother, wife or sister murdered?
Thanks for mentioning these facts! As was mentioned above, the parole board had the facts, and the woman was probably more involved than we have been told.
Spare us your misogynistic tripe. Far more men kill their wives, girlfriends, and stalking victims who won't have anything to do with them than women kill men. And what do you know about the cupcake channel unless you're on it?
The logic is stunning. Women do it and get out and make money so men should too. How about ANYONE who murders with premeditation stays in the slammer -- PERIOD. Done. And the notion that "oh, she was probably to blame too because it was probably a fight that got out of hand." Even if that were true, so what? You killed someone, bye-bye. And whose to say IT IS TRUE? What a world. We immediately believe things to be true that aren't covered in a story. Why? Because they aren't coverered! Crazy world. "The story doesn't tell us about the fight the two were having so that means there must have been one." Hahahahahaha... what a world.
Good morning all...
There's a cupcake channel? Please elaborate!
This guys should not be able to see daylight again. Ever.
The law does not protect battered women from spouces and boyfriends. We can watch movies on Lifetime that show these Based on a True Story (The Burning Bed - starring Farrah Fawcett, The Tracey Thurman Story - starring Nancy McKeon, Cries Unheard: The Donna Yaklich Story - starring Jacklyn Smith) all of which depict their cries for help from law enforcement but were turned away because the police needed to see the actual assaults take place. In one movie, The Tracey Thurman Story, the cop stood by and watched the entire assault and did nothing. It was the intervention of by-standers that took down her husband.
Back in the early 90's I was subjected to physical abuse by a boyfriend. Twice he put me in the hospital. Both times he was arrested yet no charges were ever brought against him...because he was friends with the arresting officer. The second time it was because he smashed my head into a brick wall over an argument that occurred because I did not want to hang out with his friends while they were doing drugs. I politely pulled him aside and whispered that I wanted to go home and just tell them I was not feeling well. He took it as an insult. I did nothing wrong but someone on this blog will turn the tables and say I instigated the assault.
After 4 years of abuse I managed to get away from him with the help of some new friends when I moved. The moment he came around looking for me they intervened and gave him one warning to stay away from me. It has been almost 16 years. When law enforcement does not help to protect that is when women have to defend themselves against these men. Walk in the shoes of a woman who lives in fear. He threatens her if she tells anyone or if she tries to leave him. Even in today's society a woman is damned if she does and damned if she does not. It cannot be both ways.
Also, the number one cause of death for pregnant women is murder committed a boyfriend, lover or spouse that is the father of the child. That is pretty sad that statistics puts being murdered while pregnant on the top of the list. Pregnancy is a hazard to women's life.
Not correct, Julieann.. According to CDC, the number one cause is auto accidents. But you probably knew that . . .
My 24 year old nephew was killed by a drunk driver. It was the drunks 3rd offense and his license had been suspended. The drunk got 8 years and was out in 5. My sister in-law still grieves for her son, can't eat or function and the drunk that killed him is walking free and easy. My nephew was sitting in a smaller vehicle at a red light when the drunk drove his large pickup truck head on right onto his stopped vehicle. Bet someone on this vine will say it was my nephew's fault for driving home from work that night.
People have gotten much stiffer sentences for small amounts of drugs or relatively minor crimes. Michael Vick gets 2 years for killing a few dogs but a womans only worth five?
Vick should have been hung.....
farmall48
OK so Vick should have been hung what SHOULD they have done with the guy? Or are you saying you feel dogs have more value than a woman?
I didn't say that......you interjected it. I'm a firm believer in the death penalty.......you kill an innocent, you die, end of story. Are we clear now?
Yes, farmall48 - excellent response, and you are right. Am very much with you on this one, except for giving any state the power of the death penalty - it is misused and routinely sought and abused - and can be wrong - even with so-called "due process." It's also much too prolonged a process - and much too expensive - to enforce.
Better to sentence killers to WORK for the rest of us - for the rest of their otherwise worthless lives.
farmall - what happens if you kill someone who's not innocent?
what qualifies "innocent"?
LadyCoastGaurd;
I agree with your last sentence, but will add the stipulation that they be allowed no medical services ever.
I think that Vick should have got at least 5 years no parole, but he has money and is valuable to others with connections.
This "professor", should have been made to do at least 15-20 years before any type of "good behaviour" parole could be implemented.
I believe it is the fault of the prosecutors, for not going with some type of murder charge. Unless there wasn't enough evidence to make it stick, he should have been charged with murder.
I am also for making convicts work to pay off their housing/food bills. They shouldn't get to sit around.
They can learn and actually practice work skills while incarcerated, that they can then use when they get out of prison.
@Jessica, in an instance like this, an innocent would be one who has never murdered anybody else.
Also, Jessica, reread yout post. You asked me what happens when you kill someone who isn't innocent. Um, that means the guilty was killed........as it should be.
We can break it down simply Jessica, I believe that farmall48 is stating that being found guilty of committing the crime of murder should be singularly punishable by a life sentence, in front of a 10 person firing squad!
To add my beliefs, if your DNA, clear video or other overwhelming evidence says you did it, you should check into the 10 day or less express lane, no appeal, no reprieve. There is no point to waste taxpayer money and time, let the same wawa's that would have been protesting outside the prison be there a little sooner.
@Tracy. Exactly!
I thought I might be on the right track there farmall.
If they start a petition to put him back in, I would be glad to sign and circulate it. I agree with the family. Five years just isn't enough time. My heart goes out to the family of the victim.
Nancy Mowbray
while I agree he SHOULD have received a stiffer sentence up front you OBVIOUSLY have not clue or don't believe in due process.
he got his stiff sentence from behind
a petition? ....tell me you speak in jest......
I wonder what the prison sentence would be if one of her family members approached him to have a conversation, that turned a little ugly maybe, and resulted in this man's death?
I woudl have to assume 5-10 years, given the precedent that was set in this situation.
After all, when it's just a heated arguement gone bad - leinency must be given.
Remember that folks, if things get out of hand - just kill the person you're arguing with...and then tell the judge about the case and how you've done nothing more wrong than this man.
He is a complete hypocrite! Just read below regarding his appointment "to analyze and provide constructive immediate input to improve a city court system which has been charged with “causing criminals to go free”.
A simple google search gives his number and email address if you want to contact him!
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has appointed Firm Shareholder Bruce L. Castor, Jr. to a blue ribbon Panel of twelve Pennsylvania distinguished criminal law experts to study, and effect, a “sea change” for the criminal court system in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Mr. Castor, a current Montgomery County Commissioner, served as the elected District Attorney for Montgomery County from 2000 until 2008. He has tried hundreds of criminal cases, and is nationally recognized for his work in advancing and protecting victim’s rights. Mr. Castor joins former and present judges, and leading prosecutors and defense attorneys to analyze and provide constructive immediate input to improve a city court system which has been charged with “causing criminals to go free”.
Complete Hypocrite? Nah, just "evolved."
A petition to get someone thrown back in jail, huh? sounds a little scary to me. On the other hand, there is that neighbor who keeps parking in front of my house... Gotta go, got an on-line petition to start.
Now jest a minute there Scooter.
I am going to petition to have claire mccaskill imprisioned for impersonating a human being!
Some guy selling pot or hydrocodone gets 10-15 years for first offense distribution of a controlled substance.
Well now I know if I ever want a slap on the wrist all I have to do is murder someone.
nice drama lama you ride. Complete BS. If it were true, there would not be all of the seasoned dealers out there. Stick to the content of the story!
What the hell is a lama?
Did you mean llama?
Gotta love liberal justice. Hes done his time???? His time should have been up when he died in prison. Hopefully the family can now proceed with a wrongful death lawsuit and make sure this guy spends his remaining years with nothing!
This has nothing to do with liberals as you claim. This has everything to do with the laws. Pennsylvania laws, if you do your homework, on sentencing guidelines were drafted and voted on by Republicans. I put the blame on ALL politicians for the over-sight and injustice that occurs.
Well, that is what he gets paid to say, and I's bet a dollar against a moldy donut that somebody else was paid too, on the parole board.
5 years for brutally beating one's spouse to death, and he goes free.
I hope he has massive coronary as he's approaching the prison exit.
Vain hope.
No reason to assume anyone on the parole board was bought. As has been previously stated, their priority is whether the conditions for parole have been met by the inmate, and in this case they were. What IS ridiculous is that someone could murder another person for their own financial gain, as was obviously the case here, and be allowed to be eligible for parole in only five years. Keeping him incarcerated for much longer would be an effective use of my tax dollars, if I paid Pa. taxes, and hope that my state would see it that way if he were here. This sort of thing is why people see our system as being a farce.
rlquall, you are 100% right. However, poetic justice would be for him to return to teaching at penn, where all the people on the parole board have children enrolled and he gets to teach them.
I do agree that the first failure was by the prosecutors and the courts in handing down such a lenient sentence. But I would not absolve the Parole board of either blame or suspicion.
There is a discretionary element to any parole board's decisions. That is why eligible felons are interviewed by the parole board, before the decision is made to grant parole. Sirhan Sirhan has many times come up for parole, and many times been denied. I think it not unlikely that terms of his parole have been met. But the California parole board has never granted his release, and probably never will. The same is true of the Manson Family members, some of whom have died in prison [cheers]
It is almost always at the discretion of the board that parole is granted or denied. So this Doctor was eligible for parole after 5 years, but there was no absolute mandate forcing his supervised release. Certainly the extreme brutality, premeditated nature and base motive of the crime argues that he should have remained in prison, at least until he was an old, old man.
Yet, with all of the information before them, the parole board said, 'let him go'.
That sound suspicious to me. Can I absolutely prove it was the result of influence peddling? No, it might be liberal jurisprudence run amok too. But often the simplest explanation for an event is the most likely to be true, and if I were betting, and there was an absolute means of knowing, I know where I'd place my money.
Money talks, as the saying goes, and Dr. Rafael Robb walks.
His wife was robbed of her life and the husband gets out of prison for good behavior and learned his lesson.....what lesson did he learn? It appears our legal system protects the rights of those who break the laws while the victims are forgotten. Are we hearing the whole story or just what the reporters want us to hear??? Was she abusing him so he was defending himself, was a deal made, or what? Can't believe he commits murder then out in five years for good behavior........
He learned he can be appointed to a csar position with our current administration. He can head the department of spouse abuse
What a totally ignorant comment. Come back when you're an adult.
mike, I'm back liberal truth hurts doesn't it
jrfgolf, you're comment proves why are country is all screwed up because you righties have to turn everything into a political issue relating to the current administration. If that is where you want to take this OK but you forget that this murder took place under Bush, who is also a murderer because he sent our country to war based on lies and he is walking free. This issue has nothing to do with politics but it does have a lot to do with justice system where we have a two system justice, one severe punishment for the ordinary American and a softer easier punishment for the influential and wealthy.
Personally, I don't care if he had good behavior. He took a life and that means he should either be in prison for the rest of his life, or die.
Winker, check the perps credentials in this case. He was a devout dem, you failed!
Is he going to teach Criminal Justice in college now?
This would be a dream come true if I were related to the victim. While in jail you have no chance of delivering justice. Now, bide your time, abduct him and let the fun start.
It doesn't say what the original sentencing was but obviously 5 yrs is not enough! I hope that poor women's family takes her child and runs before those imbecilic anuses running the PA courts give him custody too.
Leslie Clark Baldwin
It doesn't say what the original sentencing was but obviously 5 yrs is not enough! I hope that poor women's family takes her child and runs before those imbecilic anuses running the PA courts give him custody too.
He obviously took a plea deal. From a news article at the time.....
I would say we should be SURPRISED he got even 5 years. don't blame the Courts for what the Prosecution agreed to. The prosecution got their "win" and the family agreed to it now they are whining... it appears they want vengeance now.
Before you get on my case.. I think it is a travesty what happened but we can all thank the "Justice" system for all of this. I wonder if this guy will be allowed to return to Israel where he could carry on a "normal" life.
trust_verify- You said not to blame the Courts. For your information the Judge can reject the plea deal so we can blame the Courts/Judge. Judges are Gods and that is what they think. They do what they want and that Judge could have rejected the Plea Deal if he wanted to.
There is no justice in the justice system. It should rightfully be referred to as the "Legal System."
Contempt of Court? Contempt of Congress? Seems to me that these are patriotic duties these days.
This is justice??? Give me a break! He should never get out of prison. Maybe someone can beat him to death when he gets out and they'll get five years too.
eye for an eye....execute him, oh no, let him free to get guns and kill more....that's hurting us "normal" people who own guns, this maniac will get one, legal or not.....at the very least, he should never be out of prison for god's sake, he killed someone!!
sherral4
Wrong thread for that argument. He used a chin up bar... as mentioned in the article.
Pro 2nd Amendment anti ID10T
with guns.Perfect example of the insanity we call a judicial system: over a million people set rotting prison for violating words a bunch of corrupt lawyers put on paper while a 1st degree murderer walks free after only five years. Those who are wondering what is wrong in society should start at the top with those who sell the law; and work their way down to the apathetic who either give little too no thought about why things are the way they are; or they lack the moral integrity to do to do what is right thing when they know what it is.
The Scare Crow must have been handling this case! "Sold! Parole, for the guy for killing his wife".
Eye for an eye, shouldnt be in prison at all. Should have been at the end of a rope that Friday following the crime.
People have been complaining for years about the way justice has been delegated in this country and all it's amounted to can sum it up in one word, zero. When was the last time anyone complained about the justice system and something was changed? Not one damn time. It is what it is.
This is why our justice system is a joke. If he had been poor he would have gotten life with out parole. He is a greedy murderer. Justice, if it were real, would have been death. He had the cash to pay his way out & now he will repeat offend, shocking no one. Making a profit for the lawyers and those bribed on his behalf. Once again lawyers and our falsely named justice system put the public at risk for personal profit. Disgusting.
There is no other reason on this earth or any other that beating someone to death is a 5 year sentence.
I don't care what kind of deal was made. This guy needs to serve the rest of his life in prison.
To kill someone so they can afford a costly divorce just shows what a brutal man he really is. He will never change. Society needs to be protected from the man.
He is a professor, like the Obama type, probably good friends
Idiot! Were you born stupid or do you work really hard at being so dumb?
"Obama type"?....."probably good friends"?........ I believe it is THAT mentality that was instrumental in getting President Obama his SECOND TERM.
And liberals dont see why gun bans are useless, or why liberals are also useless. Keep thise murderers on the streets you imbeciles, then blame the weapons they use.
We'd better ban exercise equipment now.
are you feakin kidding me
did we not learn anything from the new york shooting when the old man killed the firefighters.
this is why we have shootings going on, a systematic breakdown of enforcing the laws on the state and federal levels..,,
i remember when colorado passed the weed bill legalizing weed. obama was asked about that and he said "WE HAVE BIGGER FISH TO FRY".... i call it deflecting.
well this petition will force his hand and he will have to make a decision.
i have started a petition at the whitehouse. gov
the petition is to have the federal government to enforce its own bans on marijuana and illegal immigration.
please go there and sign it.
http://wh.gov/Esqw
lets take away their weed !!!!! and the illegals that bring it into our country !!!!!!
help me get this to obama's desk....copy and paste, repost, add to your facebook, twitter
I generally do not comment on these posts. But here besides the point that others are making; that weed carries a longer term then this murderer got.. what does this have to do with signing petitions to ban mj or immigration. The whole injustice of this sentence for murder is what the issue is.
Why not sign petition to remove a parole board and set up set ssentences + take a life and do life.. special circumstances, a life for a life. And I am a liberal pot smoker, so stop with the comparisons.
An eye for an eye, etc.............Should be the death penalty for anyone taking a life. Should also be a death sentence for all crimes committed with ANY weapon!
AgainstTheGrains,
He has cut and pasted this message on at least 4 other news post. He is a troll and likes to waste your time.
Smells like strings being pulled. Stinks!
LOL now this is funny. Here we have the Prez trying to make it hard to have a gun and we let murders out.
I think I will keep my gun Mr Prez and this is one reason why. If you have a fail legal system as we do.
Boy I sure glad the prez really knows where the problem is.
Instead of banning guns why don't you keep the murders in jail and fry them.
Thank you Prez for more wasted time making law that will not do a damn thing.
laser.......banning guns?......seriously?... I thought the ban was on large magazines and assault rifles.....Is the President responsible for letting this man go free after 5 yrs?
Its out of context remarks like this that RUIN serious discussions about our nations problems. It tends only to confuse and distort, instead of fixing or RESOLVING an issue.
And just what vacuous nocturnal emissions do you propose, troll; 5 year olds packing heat, NO lengthy background checks, longer waiting period before purchasing a weapon, and a universal data base because they go against your 1st Amendment rights, or buying whatever you want to 'protect' yourself under the 2nd Amendment, including land mines, grenades and tanks?
Mack that is just the start for the Prez he is not done yet give it time you shall see.
Um yes if he thinks he is responsible to protect the kids and banning guns is the way um wake up keeping them off the street would be step one duh.
And how is this out of context same to me ban guns but let the criminals go free. Yep sounds like the Prez has a handle on the real issue.
Fantomdog,
Not going to waste my time with a Lib that has no logic....
And I have no problem with background checks, had it done many times for security for the DOD and my guns.
You don't even know what the 2nd Amendment means if you have to ask those kind of questions.
Oh also Mack is that not what the Prez said yesterday I will do what it takes to protect the kids. Um don't you think keeping criminals in prison would be the 1st step? If not you scare me...
The penalty in this case was shamefully light..............WHY?
good ol american injustice system
i know one way of stopping this bs with our court system and inhuman murderers
make the judges who make these choices be responcible for their releases
if the murderer gets out like now and goes and kills again
i say we prosecute the judge with the death penaltyand put the judge to death making the judge responcible for the judge call
lets see how many murderers get parole then eh???
its a sadsadsad world when a life gets taken away by an idiot and he/she walks free and unharmed
this tells me we are more worried about killers than humans
just a typical day in the usa
pretty sad
inhuman murderers need to be put 6 feet under like their victims
ya when there isnt a penalty for killing one goes and kills
these killers need to put their killing to the politicians and judges that have no brains
let a murderer go lol nice one usa your ass is showing again
thanks for making everyone look stupid
