Subscribe to RSSA 78-year-old grandmother has been charged in a New Jersey burglary ring that included two of her grandchildren, police said.
Lorraine Bleckley, 78, of Medford, N.J., is one of six people charged in the burglaries that authorities say took place from the beginning of October 2012 through the end of November 2012 in the Hoot Owl and Tamarac Developments in Medford.
Police say Bleckley allowed her grandchildren, Kenneth Bleckley, Jr., 24, and Cynthia Bleckley, 21, to live in her house and use it as a "home base" for the alleged crimes. She also let other defendants in the case stay at her house, according to authorities.

Both grandchildren are charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary. Kristina McLeod, 23, is charged with five counts of burglary and various other charges. Jeffery Simpkins, 23, is charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, attempted burglary and conspiracy. The eldest Bleckley is facing one count of maintaining a nuisance.
Bail for the crew ranges from $20,000 to $40,000.
Authorities say $26,845 worth of jewelry and cash were stolen over two months.

I should not have to mention this but will for the ones that don't get it. A 78 year old woman does not have the power to decide what the grand kids do. She is lucky if she can avoid them.

Maybe she is looking for a way to replace her social security and medicare. After all, there are those in congress who can't wait to take it away. The old folks will have to find some way to survive. The jails will become the new nursing homes.

warrren - I don't know how many 78 yr old women you know, but my mom is 80 and still runs a very successful company. There is absolutely no reason to give her a pass solely because of her age. She's 78, not 110.

People talk about the I, Me and Myself generation. Grandma had money from SS. She was a target for the grandchildren. They used her home, no elderly person would jeopardize the safety of their home unless they where forced too out of fear. Parents are afraid of their own children they break all connection and move out of state. How much does it take to terrorize an old lady? They came in, they took over the grandmother.s home. A bunch of drugging thief's....

One common theft which old ladies used to commit ( and probably still do ) is steal the silk flower arraignments in cemeteries, and sell the flowers back to flower shops. Posing as grieving widows they would pilfer from the graves of others... and who's going to stop a grieving widow? I've seen the old girls transporting illegally caught fish in their blue hair, flowered smocks and all. Grandmas have been known to smuggle drugs, kidnap and steal money and jewelry, and short of jumping out a window and making a running getaway down the alley, one shouldn't be surprised at the level of crimes they are capable of committing. Some old girls are pretty good shots too. There are lots of liars, thieves. and frauds in the elderly female population. Many an old girl making cookies has a gun handy, too.

Maybe she "lost" her life investments like I did starting in 2009. Unblievable what 4 years can do to your life. It won't come back because the account is empty/closed. Never lost a dime in investments prior to 2008. You go Granny! Taked what you need...the elected robbers in DC do.
It's a little known secret of Social Security that if you're collecting that monthly check and you go to prison, the SS checks get stopped. They won't restart them until release from prison is proven and of course there will be no back pay.
Granny just lost what income she had, and she can forget about living off her kids, heck they were sponging off of her.
Not only SS, but also her medicare but then while she's in jail the taxpayers will be paying her med. bills, unless she has money stashed and then likely the county will get their hands on it. As for the grandkids and their friends, they should be forced to pay double back for every item stolen, while serving time also.
Well, she might be better off if the taxpayers of the county pay her bills.

It just goes to show you that old age does not make a person morally better or wiser; it just makes you old. That's all.
I think it's entirely possible that Grannie didn't have the heart to turn in her grandbabies, after everyone else turned them out. You know the old saying..Blood is thicker than water. If the kid's parents (one being HER child, there could also be guilt. Then there's the idea of how many children go to grandma to get what they want when the parents say no?
I'd say this is a case of the grandchildren taking advantage of grandma, and things getting out of hand, with her not knowing how to stop it without the grandchildren abandoning or turning on her.
At least there were people around to keep her from being lonely...
Cut the elderly people social security and medicare and this is what you get. This will be the new norm if the CEO'S of this country get their way and raise the retirement age to 70. Nobody will hire old people so they have to steal to survive. I see nothing wrong in that. Do what you gotta do. How many times have Politicians and CEO'S been caught with their hands in the cookie jar? What's wrong with Grandma doing it.
I think the citizens of this country should be as Honest as the Politicians running this country. Can't ask for more than that.
BS - that's such an unacceptable cop out. What we NEED to do is stand up as a country, demand accountability from ALL of our elected officials and keep voting them out of office until they get the message. We could do it if we pulled together, but they've all done such a great job of dividing this country that I don't know if it will ever happen.
there is not a lot of details about the grandmother so before rushing to judgement maybe we need more info. She may have been a williing partner but on the other hand, she may have just trusted the grandkids and not have wanted to believe they were crooks. If she did have a hand in it, then she needs whatever punishment they give. But I can tell you seniors sometimes are preyed upon by family members. She may not have had a lot choice in allowing them to stay with her she may have been afraid of them. And maybe she should not have been living alone, but evidently she did not have any family that was actually taking care of her if the grandkids are an example. We have to trust that the law enforcement determines the correct circumstances.

What makes you people think that everyone in this country is entitled to live off the government? Crooks have been doing this kind of stuff since time began--give me a break!! All senior citizens do not do this..If she is needy there are plenty of agencies that can help her..I know because I have worked in human resource departments.
Well, if the government has no qualms about living high on the hog off of its citizens...why should the citizens feel any different.
Incidentally, if it wasn't for all the taxes the government has already taken from me, I would NOT have any debt like a mortgage, loans, credit cards etc. I wouldn't even NEED them. I would be a straight-cash customer. I would owe nobody ANYTHING! Additionally I would have an MBA (massive bank account) to retire on. Plus I would be able to live comfortably on my current part-time job.
I'm not getting any younger, my health is already down the tubes, I will NOT however, give up on working completely so long as there is a single breath left in me, but I will have to unfortunately have to seek some form of government assistance at some point to supplement what I make working because I can no longer work full time like I used to in order to make ends meet. I worked 12-14 hours a day for 30 years straight and I just can't do it anymore. My body won't let me. I'm lucky I can go 6-8 hours now.
The government already has in its grasp a substantial part of MY wealth.
If the government has no qualms about giving billions of dollars and expensive military equipment to countries that HATE us surely they can afford to help those of us who dearly love their country.
By the way, I wish Grandma the best. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to survive.

This sounds like trumped up charges. Did she know what they were using her house for? Do they have proof of it? If not, she should not have to face the same charges as the grand kids. What if she had Alzheimers and they were just using her?

Stupid, stupid, stupid - They are all stupid! If I was going to steal, it sure wouldn't be for less than $30K divided up between them. They're so stupid, they belong in jail - except for Grandma, it might not be so bad. Cheaper than an old folks home. She gets medical, food, cable and roof over her head - that's a lot more than some people have. At her age the other inmates will probably leave her alone, AND another big plus, she won't have to babysit her stupid grand children's kids!
I guess that one could argue that she allowed it so she wouldn't be lonely.

My parents are in their early 80's and if their grandkids tried that at their house they'd call the police on them. I say throw the book at ALL of them, just because our politians are crooks doesn't mean we have to be!!!
