Kindergartner suspended for pink bubble gun threat

A 5-year-old girl who allegedly said she was going to shoot her classmates and herself with her pink "bubble" gun was kicked out of school.

Last week, the kindergartner was chatting in line while she was waiting for the bus. No one is sure exactly what she said, but according to the family's attorney, she told classmates something along the lines of "I'm going to shoot you and I will shoot myself." She didn't have her Hello Kitty Bubble Gun with her at the time, but when school officials got wind of the conversation, they questioned the little girl, suspended her for making a "terroristic threat," according to The Daily Item newspaper, and told her parents she needed to be evaluated by a psychiatrist.

"All I know," the mother told the paper, "is what my daughter has told me and she said she was told she could go to jail, which is a very traumatic thing for a 5-year-old to live with."

The attorney says the little girl was questioned for about three hours, without her parents present.

"This is a good-natured little girl," lawyer Robin Ficker said. "And this shows how hysterical people who work at schools have become since Sandy Hook."

She attends school in the Mount Carmel Area School District in Northumberland County, Pa. A school administrator told PennLive.com that officials are looking into the incident and are not able to discuss disciplinary actions.

The family wants the school to apologize to their daughter and they don't want the suspension to be on her school record.

The school officials need to be suspended without pay until a competent judge can examine the case.

Since competent judges are few and far between that may be a lengthy wait.

Also, the parents should want not only apology, but dismissal of the idiots who terrorized their little girl. Those people should be classified as pedophiles and banned from working with anyone with a brain.

Also the school should be help liable for any mental illness the child may develop due to the terrorist incident.

The school officials should be given bubble guns and sent to Mali and Algeria to fight terroists.

This 5 year old girl has probably already been placed on the "No Fly List."

Where I live in the rural midwest kids still CARRY pocket knives to school....if the teacher saw one out...they'd just tell the student to put it way... I sure am glad I don't live on the east coast any more.

Here you can even make a rubber-band gun in woodshop....

FYI: You can take all guns away from everyone in America and a 4 year old boy will bite his toast into the shape of a gun and shoot his baby sister....

I can't believe you are still allowed to have wood-shop! Tools can be dangerous and therefor should be regulated by the government. I bet the kids will have to pass background checks soon before they can use knives or saws in class... We live in a very sad world.

It is ILLEGAL TO INTEREGATE A CHILD WITHOUT PARENTS OR LEGAL REP PRESENT?

And the school admin did so for 3 hours? Yes they went above and beyond their legal role and should be posecuted to the full extent of the law. There is an Ethics issue here!

Not too quickly here, people. We gotta watch out for those 5-year-old terrorists. Seems maybe the TSA frisks of children were right all along.

The incredible thing here is that people have been turning their children over to these freaking morons every morning and continue to do so. Permanent expulsion from the schools for these types of teachers and administrators should be mandatory. Perhaps they could find employment in "alternate schools."

Five years old.....FIVE years old. And how old are these school officials? At five years old, you pretty much have no idea what you are saying or what the implications are. The child should have just been spoken to and told that it is not acceptable to say what she said, and let it go at that. If the child continues, THEN you contact the parents and go from there. Once again, home schooling looks better & better...doesn't it?

Polka14: And do what with them? Home School. Well, considering the educational attainments of many Americans nowadays, they may be worse off than at school. Then there are those that have far-out agendas (religious, political, etc.) that would then have more time to indoctrinate the kids without the children having any exposure to other beliefs, ideas, etc. Around my area, they send children to "Christian Schools" so that they don't have to interact with Black children (who can't get admission to these "Christian" schools). Same thing goes for home schooling. Either way children don't learn how to properly interact with people that are not like themselves. I believe in public schools. If there's a problem with teachers and administrators overreacting, then it's time to get together with the local school boards to address the issue.

As kids we were always running around saying things like, "I'm gonna KILL you if you say that again!" If I had a dime for every time a man said "I'm gonna STRANGLE my wife!" or a woman said "I'm gonna blow my husband's brains out!" I'd be freaking rich.

That's easy, the little girl had a BUBBLE gun, you know the toy that you load with bubble stuff, pull the trigger and little bubbles pour out the end. She was going to shoot or "send" bubbles at her friend, and then she was going to get the bubbles on herself. The bubbles probably tickle when the pop and then the kids giggle and do it again. Not anything horrible or dangerous at all. So is the word shoot going to banned now? I know people who shoot off their mouths and it ticks me off, should they be questioned for 3 hours? Or what about I'm going to shoot a basket? Or I'm going to shoot down the slide? Come on folks (especially educators) look at the context don't just don't be stupid. Oh, shoot, Chicken Little, the sky is falling!!!

NRA would love that since Obama doesn't believe in budgets. They would simply spend all the money and charge it to the taxpayers just like Obama does. Like I stated earlier, Next will be Paper airplanes in schools. for students will be charged with flying them into school buildings. If you want to ban something, maybe banning unemployment and putting them to work on building projects to earn food would work. I now if they had to pick crops then they would probably look harder for a better job. They just need incentive. Since sitting on the sofa playing vidio games doen't bring in much income or food.

No kidding. Our schools demand more and more money but our kids learn less and less every year. Our school officials are more concerned about finger pointing than teaching kids. Our schools are more worried about teaching PC stuff than information our kids can actually use.

In another couple of generations our children are going to be too stupid to breathe.

                              1. Schools that get sued over items like this always lose and they usually have to pay out a good chunk of change. Another parent could have brought a bullying charge against the 5 year old and had she been talking to another student repeatedly about "shooting" them, the parent probably would have won. Look at case studies on the issue. Especially with new bullying legislation like in New York state.

                              2. Teachers have very little control over what they teach, because politicians are in charge of the curriculum and have been for decades. Bad policy that has to be followed or a teacher loses their job is in the mix too.

                              3. Take a look at kindergarteners entering school. Many don't even know basic colors or skills that are part of growing up. Students are starting school behind and it gets worse.

That's right MC Gusto. If someone disagrees with you, hate them. If you want to know what is wrong with this country today, just look in the mirror. Where do people, both on the far left, but more so on the far right, get the idea that they have access to the absolute truth and everyone else is just wrong.

Let me clue you in on something. Life is not black and white, but rather a thousand shades of gray. The sooner you extreme partisans would realize that the better off this country would be. Believe it or not party is not more important than country.

This is all too common and completely unnecessary. If those in a position of leadership just thought for a minute it might be different but I don't think school and the police do much thinking anymore, they just "follow procedure". We had a kindergardener taken to expulsion hearing for bringing to school a 2 inch long orange water pistol. She had to go to expulsion hearing under the "no tolerance" policy. How about no tolerance for brains!

This is the proper and recommended NRA/GOP use of gun control. Never harm someone with a pocket full of cash and desire to own a hand cannon. Guns create jobs (prison guards, undertakers, more and more police, etc,).

When a 5 or 6 year does s0omething like this, it becomes the crime of the century. When some redneck jerkoff like James Yeager threatens to "start killing people" over his dislike for guns laws, he is all over the paper and TV giving interviews. Shows the power and stupidity of the NRA.

Sorry but you are misinformed giving the bird to a police officer is protected speech, also words alone are not sufficient threat toward a Peace Officer unless those words specify a specific threat to do bodily or seriously bodily injury. Of course if you do that to another civilian it is Disorderly Conduct and an offense. I sense you don't like Police I suggest the next time you are in danger call a hippie!!!

As far as peeing in our pants in my 27 years on the job it is ALWAYS the bad guys crying for their mommas when we come for them.

what if you are a photo red light camera? Is that protected, too? cause in Denver, someone got a ticket for flying the bird at the four corner camera. No other offense.

The little girl should not be suspended. The parents are being suspended and punished. When I was 5, I picked up a stick while at school playtime, I got in trouble, only talked to, but in Tacoma, WA, there is so much crime, did that matter I picked up a stick? or is it her words, should she have said she was blowing bubbles instead? How does this help, when at age 5, I'm standing in line and the boy in front of me, turned around and punched me in the stomach. Yes, it hurt, did I say anything, no. Why? Don't know, did I punch him back, No. it hurt like hell, holding my stomach. He did it for NO reason. Someone needs to punch the administrators in the stomach.

You probably shouldn't have said that. Now CPS, the FBI and Homeland Security will be pounding on your door at 3:00 in the morning.

And I googled the toy in question as I had never seen one before....It looks more like a little pink blow dryer than anything and it shoots BUBBLES!!! They were probably talking about shooting bubbles at each other for crying out loud. And questioning a minor for 5 hours without her parents? Anyone from the school who was involved in this needs to get fired and right quickly! I could understand if they had called the parents and said we believe your daughter made a terrorist threat and we need to get to the bottom of it, can you please come in? But the parents weren't notified that anything had happened until the decision was made to suspend the girl.

My 4 yr old was threatened at daycare a few months ago and we immediately called the school when he told us and said they better fix that situation real fast. He was told by the girl , "she was gonna gun him down!!!". Joke or no joke, she is learning it from somewhere. We demanded they check her backpack everyday. Very scary.

So when a kid actually does bring in a real gun, what are you going to say, oops, I guess it was real. Kind of like the 7yr old kid the other day brought a loaded gun to school
