Where's Mitt? In warm, sunny California

It’s chilly on the Capitol steps today, but that’s no problem for Mitt Romney.

David Goldman / AP, file

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on election night in Boston. He is spending inauguration day in La Jolla, Calif., according to an aide.

The former Republican presidential contender is spending Inauguration Day at his home in La Jolla, Calif., where it’s sunny with a forecasted high of 73 degrees.

An aide told NBC News that the former Massachusetts governor and his wife have "no big plans."

Asked if the governor was likely to watch the inaugural ceremonies today, the aide said, "Doubtful."

It’s not surprising that Romney is keeping himself far from the fanfare and tri-color bunting; he’s kept a low profile since losing the election in November.

Romney’s son Tagg told The Boston Globe in December that his father was never really all that into winning the nation’s highest office anyway.

“He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life,” Tagg told the newspaper. “He is a very private person who loves his family deeply and wants to be with them, but he has deep faith in God and he loves his country, but he doesn’t love the attention.”

I will bet you, say....."$10,000," that Romney NEVER, EVER appears on FOX as a "commentator." He may be interviewed once or twice in the coming year, but he is as welcome in the conservative universe as Cheney is at an Amnesty International fundraiser.

So that's why he ran such a bad campaign(47%) and handed Osama 4 more years.

Direct order from obama my a$$... he, like any other president, made the same decision any other president would have (except clinton when he had him in his sights)... he simply approved... go speak to the "real men" who took osama out... see what their take is... By the way, osama bin laden is dead AND SO IS OUR AMBASSADOR... Do you understand that much? As much as OBAMA is responsible for taking out osama he is responsible for the death of OUR FOUR DEAD AMERICANS IN BENGHAZI !!!!!!

Silly Mitt! The Obama's had you at the White House for a lunch after the election, should have asked to reserve a couple of chairs up there. God knows I would have, very few people get to be that close up at the ceremony. Once in a lifetime chance! But, GOD spoke and you lost! Good Luck to our President as his 2nd term starts. Might not have voted for him, but I want EVERY president to do good for all of us!

Egotistical, self centered, self asorbed childish poor sportsmanship, sooner or later everyone tells on themselves, mitt has shown his true character today. I am so grateful to be an American today, not just a Democrat. FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, FREE AT LAST.

It reminds me of the famous (and witty) quote from the musical Fiddler on the Roof, when the young Rabbis ask the old Rabbi, "Is there a prayer for the Czar?" The old Rabbi motioned silence to the surrounding young Rabbis, thought for a moment, and then said, "Bless and keep the Czar . . . . far, far away!"

Mitten must be playing with the new car elevator he had installed in his CA house.

He keeps trying to make it go up, but it keeps going down, down, down, like his poll numbers did when he lost his butt last Nov!

Karl Rove told him that it's really going up, but he just has to look at it a different way, such as standing on his head.

I supported President Obama, volunteered in his campaign and, of course, voted for him. I am pleased with the outcome of the Presidential election.

Nevertheless, I am disappointed to learn Willard Mitt Romney was such a reluctant candidate. He did his party and indeed his country a disservice by failing to devote all of his available energy to the effort of communicating his vision for America to the voters, when another candidate from his party might have done better. I am left wondering whether Willard even has a vision for America beyond enhancing his personal wealth and that of his friends.

Our democracy loses when one of the candidates from whom the American people are asked to choose our next President is so flawed.

The people of San Diego recently elected a Democrat for mayor, along with a majority of Democrats on the nominally nonpartisan City Council.

So Mitt the Twit's twitty son said: “He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life,... He is a very private person who loves his family deeply and wants to be with them, but he has deep faith in God and he loves his country, but he doesn’t love the attention." This just reinforces my thinking: If Mitt has millions upon millions (and did I say even more millions ?), didn't really want to be POTUS, and doesn't like attention ??!!! WHY did he even run for POTUS. It would have been a major disaster had he been elected. I bet there was some major hidden agenda for both the wealthy and for his incredibly weasely (you know what I mean even it that's not a word) Repewbican counterparts in Congress (a disaster that's already in gov't).

Sort of. There is this thing known as the Social Security Trust Fund. Today, it has a surplus. That is invested in Treasury debt. So, in a way, it's got its own "pot." However, due to shifting demographics, that surplus is shrinking, and we soon will find Social Security needing appropriations from the General Fund unless there is reform.

When workers pay into Social Security, they are not "saving" for their retirement. In fact, most retirees collect more than three times their contributions in benefits during their retirement years. In reality, today's workers are paying for the benefits current retirees receive. When the program began, there were sixteen workers for each recipient. In 20 years, there are projected to be three workers paying into the system for each recipient. Without reform, that is not sustainable.

Those I.O.U. notes must be pretty desirable, since the Chinese are willing to invest in them.

By statute, Social Security and Medicare trust funds are to be invested in Treasury debt, which is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States.

What is Social Security supposed to do--sit on a hoard of cash without investing it in something that will provide a return?
