Brevard County Sheriff's Office
Robin Hall was arrested because she shoplifted cigarettes from a Wal-Mart back in 1991.
For one Connecticut woman in Florida, the saying "better late than never" doesn't apply.
Robin Hall was arrested because of a bill she didn't pay 22 years ago and to make matters worse, she's also been stuck in jail for the last four days.
"I just want it to be all over so I can go home," Hall said from her Brevard County Jail, Florida. She shoplifted cigarettes from a Wal-Mart back in 1991.
For that Hall owes the state $85.
The 22-year-old crime followed the Connecticut native to Port Canaveral, Florida Thursday where she, her husband and two kids were wrapping up a vacation.
The family had been aboard the Disney Dream cruise ship and Brevard County police officers were waiting for her as she left the boat.
"I was pulled to the side and told that I had a warrant," Hall added.
Police said Hall failed to pay the $85 in court costs when she was 18 and when they checked the ship's passenger list for terrorists, they found a warrant for Hall.
Since the incident she has put herself through college and now helps design jet engines for Pratt & Whitney.

"I take full responsibility for what I did but I do not believe I deserve this," Hall said.
The Brevard County Jail won't let her post bail because it's a charge from a different county and she has to be transferred there. Yet with the long holiday weekend that might not be until Thursday.

Common sense finally died after a long lingering death.
Jean Valjeane convicted and sentenced to 20 years for stealing a loaf of bread... That galls us. Here it is in America.
[sarcasm] I feel safer now [/sarcacm]
What a frekin' joke! We should kick the South out of the Union. Shame we ever let them back in! Inbreed idiots!
Sorry Peter but FL is anything but a southern state. With the invation of us NYer, NJ and Ct peeps the once great state in now turning into, well another Dumbocrat voting soon to be broke and over run by crime and grime place. Kind of like what happened to Wa, Or, Nev when the Californicators left their over priced state and move north and east. It is to bad they didn't learn what killed their home states, the lack of public service unions and the Dumbocrat Party, brothers in the large criminal organization in the world.
Florida is a fascist state. I lived there for twenty years. (Pt. St. Lucie, Orlando, Lauderdale). Recently (about two years ago, I got a letter I thought was a scam. It was from NY, claiming I went through a red light, and had been caught on camera. I didn't pay because I read it was a scam. They suspended my license. I had to pay hundreds of dollars. Soon I left Florida. F*ck Florida.
Makes me think about our own town police department. They have nothing else to do than do this? OK, she is guuilty, but to take this much effort to 'track her down'? If it was discovered incidently along with another more serious event, maybe OK. Brevard needs a PR makeover after this.
So you just would let her go?....Then I guess you should not charge young Black Men ...I mean if all that they are doing is stealing cigarettes from Walmart....
Or is it only middle aged White Women that get a pass?...What about young White Gang-bangers?...
Florida is about to fall into the sea. However, they are already drowning in stupidity. She should have been issued a ticket for failure to appear and released immediately ROR. What a bunch of idiots!
How much was spent to recover this $85.00? You flag the Driver's License and she goes from there.
Well I guess "Les Miserables" is not just a Movie.
She had a good job that pays well, she should have paid the court cost bill.
The "long arm of the law", is rubbery, too.
Hey, Florida, did pregnant Chad ever have his baby? Probably Jeb Bush's kid. The kid must be thirteen years old now. And probably f**ng his sister-mother. And how do you account for that biological oddity anyway? What a bunch of losers!
Her nightmare is just beginning ,when they find out about this where she works she could be fired because of that arrest 22 years ago!
Heeeeey baby. L0L
Excellent piece of police work!! Drug traffickers and gang members take heed. You try to cop a pack of fags in the state of Florida you by god WILL pay the price n matter how long it takes. Like a pack of blood hounds, those boys are.
she should have been given time served after the 1st day ,and should sue for all the extra time she spends in jail ,
It's unbelievable how many people think stealing is not a crime, or, is so minor we should just ignore it.
Sure. It's a crime. So let her pay the fine. I have visited jails. Common sense please.
if you cant do the time...
Meanwhile, the inevitable collapse of the U.S. dollar continues.....on schedule.
She shoplifted cigarettes...I would have guessed Twinkies...LOL
Don't you get sick and tired of laws binding common sense? I hope that the Sheriff looses the next election. Idiocy is not to be tolerated.
This is just ridiculous, first of all no statute of limitations on a misdemeanor that's over 20 years old ?
second, if the state wanted their $85 so much why did they not contact her at her home address ?, put a hold on her drivers license or something sensible ?
Third what a complete waste of our law enforcement time and resources..the officers should be demoted for stupidity !
Big Gov. just keeps spending money to find out every detail of our lives!! How much did that search cost the tax payers?
As of yet no one has been prosecuted or indicted for almost sending our Country into a depression but steal cigarettes and no matter how long it takes, justice shall prevail. Perhaps I shouldn't make such a snap judgement, it's possible we'll see indictments on those greedy culprits that sent our economy into a tailspin in the year 2035, 22 years from now.
Really--they'd arrest her for a crime that wasn't violent or a felony after 22 years? Excuse me, but the statute of limitations should have run out on a crime like that. It's not like she committed a violent crime. She store a stinking couple of packs of cigarettes. So depending on the brand, going back to what a couple packs of cigarettes cost about twenty years ago; I estimate the value of each pack (lets say two) at about $4.00/per pack. Even if she'd stolen the whole carton it would have only been worth about $35.00-$40.00 + tax!! And please FlaNative1955--old geezers want to live in Florida because its warm all year. They wouldn't last a second in Chicago during the winter.
