Waiting in the driveway on MLK Day: Ads for KKK

More than 30 flyers like this one were left in driveways at a Georgia subdivision on Martin Luther King Day.

Dozens of people in a Georgia subdivision had something unusual in the driveway where the daily paper might be -- invitations to join the Ku Klux Klan.

Sheriff’s officials in Newton County, outside Atlanta, picked up more than 30 KKK recruitment fliers on Monday, said Jeff Alexander, a sheriff’s investigator and spokesman. Monday was the national holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Authorities collected four versions of the flier, all of them depicting a Klansman in a hooded robe. “Help Save Our Race,” one reads.

A local newspaper, The Rockdale Citizen, reported that the fliers were left in plastic sandwich bags and weighed down by rocks.

Alexander told NBC News that the fliers appeared to be from a group in North Carolina, and that there was no known active KKK division in Newton County.

A call to the phone number on the flier from NBC News was not immediately returned.

Alexander described the subdivision as racially diverse and similar to others in the county.

He said sheriff’s officials had determined that there was no threat in the fliers and that no laws had been broken.

“We collected the fliers,” he said. “That doesn’t mean they won’t be distributed again.”

Local news reports in recent months have said that similar fliers turned up in neighborhoods in Virginia and Tennessee, and Alexander said there were reports of other fliers being left in neighborhoods along the East Coast on Monday.

Similar flyers have turned up in other states in recent months as well, local reports said.

Time to fiddle with the 1st Amendment.

Why? Their speech is protected. It's their backwards philosophy that doesn't stand a chance of surviving.

I believe you are correct more than you may know. The division of America social structure is by worse case scenario is Civil War. That is the formula the Brotherhood used on Egypt. When the people were shouting in the streets to depose the president they were a mixed crowd of oppressed citizens including Homosexuals. The Brotherhood waited till the country was in fragments and stepped into power. The Brotherhood immediately rewrote the Constitution to limit or disregard the citizens rights, Guess what, too late to do anything about it because the brotherhood are the ones with the guns.

Their philosophy isn't any more backward than the gun freaks. They have survived, and in fact, are flourishing in many areas, especially among tea bagger folk.

Don Harris, you are as ignorant as the in-bred members of the KKK. Good luck with that, and we will put anyone in the ground that "fiddles" with the 1st amendment, and real men like me don't require the 2nd amendment to do it. Learn the basic values this country was founded upon, or get the hell out - we can't use or tolerate simpletons as stupid as you any longer.

The DemoKKKrat party is the largest hate organization in America.

The KKK has always served as the miltant arm of the DemoKKKrat party, from as far back as DemoKKKrat Grand Wizard Nathan Bedford Forrest.

    Look it up.

And although the lefties will try to play it off, this is not exactly ancient history either. DemoKKKrat Senator Robert Byrd served for over 60 nears, never losing an election, and the DemoKKKrats would probably STILL be voting his Klan butt back into office, but he died in office of old age at 92 recently.

Then turn around and call someone else ignorant.. Completely awesome!

@bubba: No, if you carry a racist sign and support racism I call you a racist - try and keep up, little in-bred man. I used to live in Ron Paul's district and in the '80s he mailed out the most racist, KKK-inspired trash I have ever seen with a stamp on it. I am far more intelligent and educated than you bubba, and I know a racist when I see one, and I know what you Tea Party morons are all about - even the ones who aren't racist are among the lowest common denominators in society, and the posts by you idiotic, hypocritical tools in this thread and every other thread prove that. Thanks for doing the left's job for them with your desire to broadcast just how F-ing dumb so-called "conservatives" are.

smartone-2729650 - Intresting that you just go ahead and lump Tea party individuals in the same group as the KKK.

Polls show that teabaggers are far more racist and far more homophobic than any other political demographic.

    http://depts.washington.edu/uwiser/racepolitics.html

For instance, the Tea Party, the grassroots movement committed to reining in what they perceive as big government, and fiscal irresponsibility, also appear predisposed to intolerance. Approximately 45% of Whites either strongly or somewhat approve of the movement. Of those, only 35% believe Blacks to be hardworking, only 45 % believe Blacks are intelligent, and only 41% think that Blacks are trustworthy. Perceptions of Latinos aren’t much different. While 54% of White Tea Party supporters believe Latinos to be hardworking, only 44% think them intelligent, and even fewer, 42% of Tea Party supporters believe Latinos to be trustworthy. When it comes to gays and lesbians, White Tea Party supporters also hold negative attitudes. Only 36% think gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to adopt children, and just 17% are in favor of same-sex marriage.

This poll shows even less support for marriage equality amongst the teabaggers:

    http://www.advocate.com/politics/marriage-equality/2012/08/20/tea-party-shows-least-support-marriage

Among the Tea Party movement, one of 13 "political party clusters" used to group responses, just 6% of people responded in favor of marriage equality, with 94% opposed. This is the lowest rate of support, and highest rate of opposition, of any of the other categories polled.

I can't get over these idiots that keep bringing up Abour the great est senetor that W.Va. has ever had he was a true patriot. Yes he may have made a mistake as a yuth by signing up with the KKK but I also know of a couple that did the same thinking it was a religous organization and as soon as they learned what they were they withdrew the same as Sen. Long.
It so happened that all these Dixiecrats that was so racist as Stom Thurmond (A Dixiecrat that ran for president)quit the Democrats and went over to the Republican party and thats where they are today. Thats why the south is all republican for it is more racist than the Democratic Party.
When I lived in Maryland there was a local paper that was running a ad with an application in it to join the KKK . It was the paper in Harford County and was the aegis and that was back in 1979 the year i left Maryland.

Much like your name will not grace the history books, because the great citizens of the USA have standards that marginalize you into nothingness. Tracy, please...please don't think the Klan and the Panthers are one and the same.

If you do, you need to hit the books. One was made for one thing only...destruction of people of color or whites who took their side. And years before the Panthers were founded. The Panthers were formed to fight the power (the man) however you wish to put it. To protect the rights of it's people through arms and rally because they knew the gov could careless about them and were being treated unfairly. Hate? I don't know about that. Maybe, the hate of being thrown in jail for walking down the street. Or the hate of water cannons and dogs? Back of the bus, enter from back entrance...etc, etc...

Funny thing most if not all racist and Klan members never went through that BS! So, yeah, the Klan was straight up about hate. The Panthers? I'm not so sure. I mean, a lot of police and politicians were part of the Klan as well.

Fair trial? Protection? No. What would you do?

They fought back. Until the FBI stepped in and vilified them..calling them terrorist and randomly killing it's members. The same? No. I don't think so.

Burning crosses and hanging people just wasn't their thing. That was all the Klan! Yes, there were some who did a bit too much...but compared to those monsters through history? I understand if you want to distant yourself from those kind of people, i would too.

So, yes it is inappropriate when you don't know the facts. When was the Klan formed again? Just saying.

LOL, I don't believe I would be welcome at any Klan event. You haven't a clue of which you are speaking. Yes, both groups are hate groups, hence my comment that they are the opposite side of the same coin. The KKK has a much longer history of stupidity, but both get straight A's for being racist. Your deflection of the Black Panther groups misdeeds appears to be a little hero worship there.

My statement in post #6.1 that hate groups thrive on causing hate and divide is backed by psychological studies. Your post are bolstered by your own back slapping hatred of others. Good luck with life, for those not willing to learn are doomed to fail.

Vern is a nut-- Dixiecrats are now the teaparty . The south had the dixiecrats who is now running the republican party which at one time a decent party but not now. More Klan members in the republican party than the democrats I'm sure since the south is red states. Hey RED is the color of blood and BLUE is a nice peaceful color.

The story is interesting to have occurred on MLK day, the day that the prez chose to have his inauguration parties. You know the ones? Where the National Anthem was lip sync-ted? This activity is nothing new, especially in the demographic area where they showed up, but it is national news worthy when it happened on MLK day?

The KKK is perceived as the FAR right of the Republican Party and Ultraconservative religions of the far right. This fear factor for liberal Americans was expertly played in the last election with the open support fro Same Sex Marriage. This effective divided/fragmented the right wing of Politics in orded to devide the opposition.

The people who are liberal and Gay or support the Freedoms of Gays are fooled if they believe his is truly supporting them.

This is another Smoke and Mirrors political magic act like all the others he has entertained us with. I am going out on a limb to say that much of his political money came from the brotherhood and their supporters. He is playing the old game of using both sides of an issue to play off against themselves. He is garnering liberal support publicly, while privately, he is supporting the rise of Islam here in America. Google Islam and Homosexuals for a real picture of what people could expect if Islam was a superpower.

However, for the time being, I would invite all the Homosexuals in Islam controlled countries to come to America, Join the Army or Marines for a chance to go kill the oppressors of their home lands. America needs to wise up. Our Republican Party has been neutered by their ultra-conservative stance on homosexuality.

People fear them more than they fear the Muslims because they are already here. That is the "Fruit" that Oblammy picks from the tree he planted. The harvest was seen when he managed to take the election.

This brings up a question I have been curious about for a long time. Why is it that the hateful writings of the ancient Hebrews (the Old Testament) is so revered by Roman Catholics, and Protestants, and Muslims alike, when the tenants of all force them to war with each other? When they are not killing each other, they kill all non-believers such as Pagans? The religious conflict in Ireland should have never started and certainly never continued. England used religion to divide the Irish people because a divided enemy is easier to conquer.

Folks that is the lesson for today that we should be using to judge the actions of the despot in washington city. What does he gain in dividing the nation? If you objectively look at the things he has done with the support of a bought and paid for media, you will see a disturbing trend.

When T. Martin was shot by Zim, he immediately came forward to claim T as his would be son.. Z was already tried and convicted in the media, but Barry did not count on the support of thinking Americans that came forward on Z's behalf. The media circus continued full tilt to a point that the Black Panthers (an organization on the terrorist watch list) came forward with a cash bounty on Z's head. These people are the equivalent of the KKK, but there were given national news support and allowed to offer case for an American citizen who protected himself.

These actions nearly brought the country to civil war, whether we see it or not and these actions were perpetrated by the man in washington. Now was this simply an irresponsible act, a negligent mistake?or was it a calculated, political maneuver?

You decide, and what do you think?

Gods are a man made concept that has been with us since the cave men were scratching picture on Cave walls. Zeus was a jealous God like Allah, but at least the Greeks could write virtue into their stories. Moses came from being the Son of Pharaoh to the representative of God on Earth to a point of writing gods laws down for posterity to follow. He used the term "God's Will" for a vindication of killing sinners, and we still see it in popular use today.

Just for the record, I do believe in God, The Son, and The Holy Ghost since I have seen the powers of the trinity combat evil. But the God must be alive within the person. Evil also lives there and the conflict between Evil and god is ongoing and will be for all time. When Men use Evil acts on innocent people in the name of God, they are breaking the fundamental laws of God because they are taking the power of God in the question of life and death as their own. This tenant was written into religious laws by Moses as a way to bond the followers together against a common enemy, Sinners. Jesus was a rebel who stood up against the laws of the Hebrews and was killed for it.

The Romans rewrote his story and that is what we have today.

                            tjefferson,

I do not recall a single Republican saying there are no racist in the South. The truth is that there are Racist everywhere. When you referr to the nice woman who waited on you at the DMV, she was probably referred to as the nice black lady or hispanic or white. That is racism by definition because you are distinguishing race.

The types of Racism that is despicable are the ones where intentional harm is perpetrated because of race. Based on the sentiments I have seen published in the last 4 years I would say that racism has changed in is power base. The new Racist are the people that fel the need to take away what other people have, namely the wealthy and increase the percentage of welfare support. I see people here on this venue that attack each other's heritage and classify people as Republican, white trash, trailer park trash, and so on. Where is the Racism? To whom does it come from?

I was forced to take college classes and also classes required for state employment that basically kept the racism alive by claiming that I, as a white male, was singly responsible for all the terrible things the poor black folks suffer, that white males are privileged.

I earned my college degree as a mature adult because I could niot afford to attend college as a young man. I did not have the United Negro college Fund, nor the NAACP to support me. I worked so I was never on welfare. As a youth I was raise in the Appalachian mountains where you were privileged to have a pair of shoes that had only been worn out twice before. I played HS football but since the school was 25 mile away and I ode a school bus to school, in order to play, I had to hitch a ride or walk. Most times I walked because they were Gravel roads and less traveled.

I encountered more racism after I left home that ever before because The Black people were racist enough to treat me badly because of the sterotype that came with my mountain dialect and accent. Not all black people treated me badly and I had many friends along the way who were of all races. but the mean, ignorant people of all colors are everywhere.

These classes were telling me that I was privileged????

Area codes don't really mean much anymore. Anyone with a google account can get a free phone number from basically any area code in the nation.

Could legitimately be in NC, could be trying to spell something with letters that align with the keypad, could be totally random... could be a straight up hoax, hard to say.

Bruce, I have noticed that when a person of limited intellectual capacity wants to comment the always seem to reach for 9th grade Grammar instead of making some sustainable argument. The topics I try to bring are intended to stimulate interest so that the reader might follow up and research a topic further. I even give references to those the topic is of interest.

However, you cannot teach an ape to perform open heart surgery all they can do is eat a banana and rub crap on the fence containing them.

I go the Internet and see people being stoned to death for religious reasons and this disturbs me because I would like to thing we have evolved past that. So I research and study and ask Why. do you know that Socrates was ostracized for the reason of continually asking why and questioning the powers of Athens? No? Guess not, but to me that is the mark of someone wanting to stimulate learning and growth.

Take "Smart" out of your title name after that comment. This is a story about the KLAN. Not the panthers. I know you will be the first to lets us know when they do the dreaded "SOMETHING" oohhh! Wow.

                                            Santhosha,

That comment about only 6 left is precisely whay they want you to think. a few months ago there was a police shooting in Dallas where the perp was shot in the back during the confrontation.

The next day the Black Panthers were filmed on the Evening News where they were making a public show of force in Combat fatigues. The Police cordoned the area off and tension was high as the crowds of people who lived in the neighborhood were miling around by the hundreds with these Combat fatugued citizens were getting acquanted with the neighbors.

Tension was high for days, but the media was no longer sending out video of the Panthers who had identified themselves as Black Panthers.

Figure it out and add this information with all the rest of the news we do not see on this venue. I wonder why that story never made it national?

I am more than a little amused that the flyer talked about taking back our white American homeland. Right, the homeland we STOLE from the Indians, who are still not having their treaties honored by the white Americans. And I have no doubt what so ever that these are real. I have had the misfortune of having KKK folk try to talk to me about joining their cause. What dweebs.

Well I was about to attend a Klan meeting one time just for the heck of but when I heard that the FBI was there and taking down the car tag numbers I didn't go for I didn't want to be accused of being a clan member. That meeting was on a farm in Cecil County Maryland back in 1977 or 1978 not sure which and apparently the Klan must have been fairly strong in that area.

Why does it say "Our white homelands" on the flyer? America wasn't even theirs until the Europeans came around and booted the real Americans out. If anything the KKK should go back to whatever country in Europe their ancestors came from :) If they want to protect their heritage they should teach their children about their real European roots but I don't expect them to be quite that intelligent.

most of them dont know where they came from. last I checked we were all American (unless of course you were born in a different country) why does it matter where our ancestors came from. MLK once said that we should judge people on the actions, not by the color of their skin.

The race these slack-jawed, knuckle-dragging morons want to "protect" is a sub-standard, in-bred, unhealthy bunch of backwoods bigots that the world is, of course, ridding itself of. It's called natural selection and, even armed with guns, these victims of a lack of genetic diversity will die out soon enough.

Bruce I think if you look at the Race they want to protect it would be White, Caucasian in people with intelligence. Now if you talking about the people they want to protect, they think of them as Americans, debatable on some of them, but if you want to talk intelligently about the way they want to go about protecting them and who they want to protect them against then I will agree with you, they have no right to do it and need to be stopped but than so do you.

And this is not exactly ancient history either. DemoKKKrat Senator Robert Byrd served for over 60 nears, never losing an election, and the DemoKKKrats would probably STILL be voting his Klan butt back into office, but he died in office of old age at 92 recently.

Verns angry because he had to choose between the Klan meetings and cross-dressing on the weekends... The Klan has missed him ever since.

Don't you have a Klan meeting to attend?

The KKK has always served as the miltant arm of the DemoKKKrat party, from as far back as DemoKKKrat Grand Wizard Nathan Bedford Forrest.

                                                          Look it up.

And although the lefties will try to play it off, this is not exactly ancient history either. DemoKKKrat Senator Robert Byrd served for over 60 nears, never losing an election, and the DemoKKKrats would probably STILL be voting his Klan butt back into office, but he died in office of old age at 92 recently.

Vern, get a brain, you may find it useful.

Who do you think the KKK represents NOW, democrats or republicans?

Who do you think those racist democrats morphed into? Right, modern day republicans. That's why democrats can't win the south.

You realize your are speaking of today Democratic Party, you know, the one who nominated a black man, and then made him President? You know the guy, that Obama fella you hate so much. I realize it's tough being as ignorant as you are, but we all rest better knowing someone as abjectly stupid as you will will likely accidentally shoot himself or die from obesity soon enough.

Barack Hussein is no more black than he is white- his father was black, and his mother was white.

It is ironic, that the DemoKKKrat party, the largest hate organization in America, has been able to fool so many lemmings, by using a Harvard-educated millionaire attorney lifetime career politician, who is so out of touch with the middle class, he thinks there are more than 57 states in the union.

He's right about the origins of the KKK and the Southern Democratic party circa 1800s to about the 1960s. However, the Soutnern Democratic Party is now the mainstream Republican Party. Perhaps the fliers were left for other reasons. Like when Nixon refused to bail out MLK and JFK and RFK helped MLK that was a significant shift in loyalities. There was a huge shift in the party base for Blacks to go from Republican to Democrat.

Atlanta that's 80% Black is probably not the best place to put these fliers unless it's a statement on the part the group that left it. It always upsets people to know they are actively recruiting and will leave fliers to that affect. Since I 'm in a group they are millitant about not associating with I like to know what they're thinking and where it shows up. I think what's interesting is that these fliers were left in a city and a rural area.
