A 10-year-old girl on her way to school in the New York City neighborhood of Canarsie, Brooklyn, told police she was grabbed by a man who forced her to the rooftop of a building and struck her on the head, authorities said.
The girl said she was walking along 108th Street at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday when she was approached by a man dressed in all black. He grabbed the girl and dragged her up seven stories to the roof of a building in the Breukelen Houses, police said.
Authorities say the man asked the girl if she had ever been kissed, and then hit her on the head with a shoe. Before the child was harmed any further, the attacker suddenly took off. Sources say there was no sexual contact.
Neighbors in the building said they heard screaming but didn't know where it was coming from. The girl then ran through the halls and screamed for help.
"There was a girl knocking on everybody's door, screaming for help, 'Help me, they're coming, they're coming,'" said Stephanie Campbell, whose brother lives in the building.
At least one neighbor helped the bleeding child, who suffered cuts on her head. She was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she received stitches and was recovering.
The man is described as being 16 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall and wearing a black jacket and black jeans. Police are investigating.
Despite visible police presence at the housing complex Thursday night, residents were on edge after the attack.
"It's so sad," said Campbell, a mother of a young boy. "You've gotta keep an eye open."
"This guy's got to get caught," said another neighbor.

According to other sources, other people also came out of their apartments. It was just who happened to open their door first.

Notice how to avoid any accusations that they're being racist, media organizations have started omitting the ethnicity of suspects, even though that is the most easily identifiable characteristic of someone? As it stands now, they would like us to believe that police are looking for every 16-25 year old male in the world that owns black clothing.

Right on marsupial3262721. Been noticing for a while now that when descriptions of suspects are given the color of their skin is not mentioned to avoid being racist, which leads most people to assume that the suspect is black.

Its not PC that makes them leave out the race. They don't have enough details, so the best choice is to leave out race (becuase people are not going to call police everytime they see any male age 16-25yrs.
But if they say black, hispanic, white -with no other info!!- (sadly) people will start calling in frivilous sightings and overburden the police.

Where did I show any bias? I do believe that is what one has to do to be considered racist, not just mention the topic. That belief itself is an extreme manifestation of political correctness. Anyway, about your asinine claims...this should be fun!

So they know his approximate height, age, and the clothing he was wearing, but the girl didn't manage to get a look at his face? Unlikely. Especially since you said other places reported it.

That would be irresponsible. First you claim that people won't call police every time they see a 16-25 year old male, and then in this paragraph, you say they will, but only if they know his race? I'm sorry you haven't. Information about a subject's description is available all at once. It's not as if they analyze his height, age, and clothing, and all of a sudden discover, "Oh my goodness! This must mean he was ________! Let the media know right away!" it was left out on purpose.

According to other sources, it was a black male who attacked the young child.Why it wasn't listed here, I have no idea, since keeping it under wraps was nolt going to change the statistics in the long run. Nor keep people from discovering a black man harmed a little girl. No matter how much some folks would have rather it had been another race. The mere fact a sicko grabbed a child, and is on the loose, is enough to make parents freak out in the area. Let's hope he is found soon.
People may avoid interfering for fear of being attacked themselves, so my heart goes out to them because it is a difficult environment to survive in, but when nobody does anything in that building, it sends out a message to the criminals in the neighborhood. No need to worry, you can do what you want in this building...WELCOME CRIMINALS!

there's an old saying, which goes. . . . ." believe nothing you read and only half of what you see " or something to that effect. basically we live in an age where there is more deception than truth. i think news papers are confabulating stories to sell newspapers. irregardless if it's true or not. i guess they feel that they are not hurting anyone by fabricating stories . and we know that the masses love stories w/ moving pictures,often referred to as " movies ". newspapers have evolved to just another form of entertainment. so pop the corn, grab you a drink and and enjoy the show !
