There is a big difference between fantasizing about nailing your "hot" teacher and actually doing it. Children usually start becoming sexually conscious around the age of 12. I take less of an issue with the age of those involved, in many states it would be legal or at the very least no one would bother to file a complaint. The fact is, this is a teacher and her student and no parent should be concern that by sending their child to school they will have a teacher abuse their power or influence over that child.

I understand the emotional reasoning behind some of the justifying comments: that 100 years ago a 16-year-old might already be married, that many 16-year-olds are already sexually active, and, of course, that most adult males had fantasies about being "victimized" in this fashion.

But, sorry, a 16-year-old is not mature enough to engage in a sexual relationship with an adult. Most don't fully understand the dangers and responsibilities of fathering a child, or the possibilities of contracting a STD from Ms Wonderful, his high school teacher. In addition, the 16-year-old may not understand that his teacher may just be f*cking around, and may overreact when the love of his life tells him it is over. Lastly, a sexual relationship between two people where one is the supervisor, or teacher of the other is inherently dysfunctional. There is no dispute about what kids are doing at that age. The person was stating a fact that at that age, the mind is not developed enough to make life choices. That doesn't really happen to most people until around the age 25, Sooner for Women. Not sure why the difference in the genders except maybe the female has to mature faster mentally in order to take care of the children. If you talk to a person of age 25 vs a person of 15-17, in most cases the conversation will be drastically different on subject matter. At 15 I loved eating candy, at age 25 it was too sweet and that's just taste buds. So, yes, I have to agree that the kids are not old enough to make a choice of that magnitude even if they wanted to. Hell, I am 48 and find some 18 to 20 year old boys attractive when I go to the beach, but that is as far as it goes.

A 16 year old, regardless of gender, usually lacks foresight into the consequences of such actions. A high school teacher should know better. There's a glaring conflict of interest, aside from the obvious repercussion of getting thrown in prison as a sex offender. It really isn't an issue of whether or not adolescents have raging hormones at this age or not. The legal age of consent in NJ is 16, but allowed if the younger person is at least 13 and the older person is less than 4 years older. This law changes when there is an imbalance of power and the older person has authority over the younger person. This would apply to an employer, coach, teacher,pastor, etc..as it could be a case of exploitation of the younger person. For a child between 13 and 16, if the older person is 4 years older or more, they can be sentenced from 5 to 10 years in prison.

No doubt you have heard of the recent news story of a 42 year old married with children female teacher who had ongoing sex with her 15 year old male student. Two days before her criminal case took place, she divorced her husband, and with the boy's mother's consent. married the 15 year old. He no longer had to testify in court because spouses do not have to offer testimony against their spouse. To me, this woman is disgusting; she further is exploiting this young kid by entering into a marriage contract with him to save her ass. I think that she should be put away, and maybe the boy's mother should be too.

Who determined he wasn't mature or legal enough to nail her? It should be the same people who would determine if he would be tried as an adult (not that he's on trial)- then it can be determined if he was mature enough to have sex as an adult.

Supposedly, the "legal age of consent" in New Jersey is 16. Based on that, there might not be a prosecutable offense. Unless, the prosecutor files other charges involving abuse of authority, etc.

What makes this story so bad is the culture we live in and the fact that this happened between a teacher and a student. In many other parts of the world the age would not have been an issue and things are no different now than they were 30 years ago, the only difference is that social and other media make these cases more well known and therefore appear to happen much more often. In the area I grew up in it was common place to not only become sexually aware but become sexually active by 11 to 12 years old. That doesn't make it right but it is fairly normal. I became sexually active by 11 with another 11 year old girl, and by thge age of 13 I was sleeping on a regular basis with a 28 year old and by the time I was 17 I slept with many women from the ages of 18 well into their 20's and 30's. My point is not to brag but to bring out the point that my life was not devistated because of it and I was well aware of what I was doing. I never needed any type of psychological counseling and I am now in my 40's. Both the teacher and the young man involved had full knowledge of what they were doing and the teacher / student relationship is what makes it wrong more than anything else. Even in college it is seen as wrong for a student to sleep with a professor even though both student and teacher are consenting adults. I believe the teacher should be punished for abusing her power as a teacher but not for abusing the student. Had it not been a consentual act then it would be a different story.

Is it maybe time for parents to step up to the plate, become the role models that their kids need and want to emulate, set clear and reasonable expectations for their conduct and their academics, and provide them the support they need to be successful?

While the teachers at this school stand there day-after-day and tolerate (encourage?) this nonsensical, ghetto form of communication, I refuse to even respond to one of my kids' texts if it isn't structured, spelled and punctuated correctly. So if they don't get a response from me in a reasonable amount of time, they know to go back and re-read what they wrote and correct accordingly. And no, we're not rich and they don't have tutors. They go to a public high school in Colorado and live a middle-class life, but that doesn't mean that as a dad I can't set my expectations for them higher than what were set for me.

I think this kind of situation used to be "swept under the rug." When I was in high school (late 1980s/early 1990s), a teacher at my school was impregnated by a student (I believe he was 16 or 17), and she was simply transferred to another school.

It was going on long before that. Back in the mid '60s there was whispering about "something one of the teachers did" at my nice, straight-laced suburban high school. And it goes both ways - when I was a teacher, a couple of female students tried to play the "lay for an A" game. But unlike Ms. Calle I had the sense to not take delivery.

For me the problem isn't one of age but whether it's APPROPRIATE for someone in authority to engage in a relationship with a person they teach, supervise, or whatever. After I left teaching I worked for a computer company where one of the managers pressured a member of his department into sleeping with him. No one could figure out why she gave in except she may have felt pressure to "consent" in order to keep her job. If it had been mutual it would have been one thing but he used his power to get what he wanted. THAT's what I find offensive.

Unless you are living totally isolated from the real world, the fact is that "If it feels good, do it" is not taught in schools. And by the way, President Bush made it mandatory that "abstinence only" is to be taught in human sexuality classes. This ridiculous, unrealistic approach to what teenagers really do sexually amounts to the spread os STDs and teenage pregnancy. A more educated and realistic approach would be to explain the consequences of having unprotected sex, and then teach about methods of birth control and safe sex practices. Ethics and morality are not dictated by religion unless you choose to attend a private school that is run by a particular religion. Ethics and morality are philosophical in nature and open to discussion, unless the law of the land has decided what is to be allowed; you will see that this is ever-changing and may be quite different from state to state.Go ahead and read polls taken by girls that were forced to attend chastity balls where they pledge a promise to their father to remain chaste until marriage (which sounds almost incestual to me that he is in charge of her virginity). See how many actually stick to this, and why are there not similar vows taken by young boys? Double standards, and I bet you would be the first to condemn your daughter but not your son.

The law its kind of ridicule, the teacher could be acknowledge as guilty, only if he is under 12 year old...... if he/she is having a gay relationship. Or if is a female under 18 years old with a male teacher. But for a guy getting his first experience with a woman who might protect herself from diseases and pregnancies, I don't see it too wrong. On the other hand, he could get to have coitus with a female 1 or 2 years younger than him and make a baby, who would interrupt their schooling or worse terminate it with an abortion. Worse of all he could be end up seduced by a bisexual or homosexual of his own age. Parents should be thankful to the teacher in my own view point and not send her to prison.

When you are old enough to have children, and you send them to school, this is what you want them doing? Schools are not strip clubs.

It is mutual consent even though the boy is minor. So for you who think it's 100% teacher's fault, you need to prosecute the legal guardian of the boy too. How's that? I bet you'll love to be accountable of what your boy is doing.

When i was 16 years young i was being taken care of by a woman of 42, she was not a teacher and that's part of what my post is all about. Young boys and girls are having sex with people older than them outside of the classroom and you just cannot stop it, "NEVER!" Now for the grown people who take jobs overseeing young minors of our society with school teachers leading the way CANNOT get caught up in this kind of behavior simply because of their duty to these children's parents trust in, the ethics and laws that come with being a person hired to teach, protect and honor these young people! Just think of all the adults in these roles that ARE NOT getting caught because of the maturity of the students that do not require sharing and bragging about the experience the had, "IT'S HAPPENING, BELIEVE THAT"............... When i was having my fun with the older woman i mentioned, "I LOVED IT AND APPARENTLY SHE DID AS WELL BECAUSE IT CONTINUED ON UNTIL AFTER I WAS NO LONGER A MINOR" and the only reason the teacher was caught was because of the obvious immaturity of the young man involved and that will continue to be the case of our society catching MOST of these teachers just giving a young boy sitting at his desk with a boner something she apparently wasn't getting enough of, or none of at all whether she was married or not, dating or not! These kinds of things will continue to happen because of desperate women and young horny boys willing to oblige them! And I'm not saying she was not responsible for actions because she was and I'm sure she will be held accountable because she was the adult, it was just easier for him to get it from her than from his young girlfriend. Sounds like maybe he will be one of the many boys/men of the world that will be a sperm donor for anywhere from 7 to 15 kids before it's all over with as when i was that young boy that i spoke of, "back then we thought of what would happen from just slinging it around without thinking of what could happen as for making babies and we made sure that we didn't make a baby everytime we had sex and I'm happy to say that my first baby that i fathered didn't come until i was married" It's not like that with the boys and girls of today, especially the boys as they do not think of anything or anyone but themselves and the fact that they get satisfaction regardless of whatever outcome, the more babies the more the money they can get for food and money from the Government!!!
