A New Jersey high school teacher has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student, authorities said.
Jennalin Garcia-Calle, a 28-year-old algebra teacher at Plainfield High School, was arrested Thursday in Davie, Fla., and charged with second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree child abuse.
According to prosecutors, Garcia-Calle began the relationship with the 16-year-old boy in December. Prosecutors allege that at least three sexual encounters occurred in a classroom inside the school.
"The boy is not at a stage in his life where he's able to make that type of legal and quite frankly mature enough decision," said Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow.
Authorities became aware of the alleged relationship after the student told a family member what had happened. Students at the high school said the boy also bragged about the relationship to classmates.
"They both knew what they were doing, they both knew they were wrong," said senior Imani Campbell.
Prosecutors said Garcia-Calle realized her relationship with the boy had been discovered, prompting her to check into a rehabilitation center in Florida, as well as send the boy messages asking him to erase certain evidence. U.S. marshalls traced those messages and arrested Garcia-Calle.
She is being held without bond in Florida, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
The Plainfield Board of Education has placed Garcia-Calle on an administrative suspension.
Information on an attorney for Garcia-Calle was not immediately available.

For all of you schmucks who think that boy is lucky, read the research: that boy is damaged goods. The expectation in future relationships for that boy will be most unrealistic, resulting in relationship problems for years to come. It's similar to what sex addicts and porn addicts experience, since the relationship he was in is so far from what most call normal.
He will need a lot of therapy if he wants to have long-lasting, functional relationships from his 20's until old age-- the kind that, imperfect as they may be, are something most of us can take for granted.

If he is proven to be an innocent young child and this was his first time... OK, maybe I would agree. But this kid is bragging. I think that is pretty telling. Watch the video...

Most of us forget what it was like to be 16, was it a mistake? of course. Will he make more? of course. Should the teacher have done it? no, but she did...fire her end of story.....no reason to absolutely destroy two peoples lives. Nobody was hurt and it was consent. Make a big deal out of nothing.....hi 5 young man, i had a teacher or two i would have loved to nail when i was 16..

I think it's time we remove women from the classroom. They have proven to be untrustworthy with our young innocent children and apparently...they can't seem to keep their legs together in the appropriate fashion....If not, then we need to install cameras in all female teacher classrooms and make them fill out monthly sexual activity logs to be reviewed by local police. Maybe Diane Frankenstein can bring up a new federal female teacher Coochie Ban featuring restriction, registration, psychological evaluation and monitoring of these female teachers? It's the only way to be sure...

While the sex aspect has been addressed pretty thoroughly, there hasn't been much mention of rules, contracts, or responsible, professional behavior.
The boy would have had nothing to talk about had the teacher stuck to teaching and following the code of behavior for teachers.

The notion of gender equality is a sham. Women yammer about it 24/7/365. They boast, they pump out their chests, they brag, they strut, blah, blah, blah. Here is another shining example of the sham of gender equality in America. This female will probably receive probation, followed with movie and book deals. Men receive ONE thing when they do this crime; JAIL. Men have been programmed to never question the notion of gender equality, ever. If they do, they are excoriated, eviscerated, labeled a misogynist, and worse. All while women pull the gender card in criminal court rooms, child custody court rooms, divorce court, on the job, in the military, the list is endless.
No question women get breaks in our legal system and elsewhere. I have sister-in-laws who always quips "it's a man's world" whenever there is anything she disagrees with.
And more important, as a white male in a mid-to upper level management position at my educational institution, I have to watch what I say every time we have a meeting, walking through the building and even socializing. Because what I say can and would likely be held against me if anyone disagrees. We employ women, gays, lesbians, North American Indian, Asian, Latino, etc. Every single one of them can come after the white man manager who has 40 years of professional experience. And we are unionized.
My reporting line has changed 3 times in the past 10 years... each one to a female, black senior administrator. The incessant reminders and decisions that favor gender and minorities has been relentless. Unless it directly involves her (and women do attack her). Then its a different set of rules.

30+ years ago I stood with my wife to listen and support women's rights. It was and still is a good thing. But in today's world there is little balance and fairness even in the eyes of our courts and legal system.

You are correct as to the amount of jail time that a female teacher gets as opposed to a male teacher. However; this is partially due to the mentality of males...Just look at the men on this thread who think the kid just got lucky. I bet if it was a male teacher who seduced their young son, they would be all up in arms. The point is that a teacher is expected to act as mentor and someone to look up to and the roles of teacher/student become confused when it involves a sexual relationship; there is bonding in an emotional sense and opens the doors to unrealistic expectations. Seriously; what could a 25 year old woman find so attractive about an immature adolescent kid? He couldn't even legally smoke a cigatrette with her afterwards, let alone have a real conversation about anythiing beyond an adolescent's mentality.
And what if her simple self didn't make sure he used a condom or was on birth control. Guess the parents would be pulling his weight.

Yeah well judging from age of consent laws, about 1/2 of the country disagrees with you on that one. I get so tired of people who take a technical violation of consent laws and try to make it sound like there was some 4 year old kid being violated. This kid was freaking bragging about this(because she's hot), not going home and crying on his momma's skirt.
What makes the prosecutor's statement even more comical is that the boy is of the age to consent in New Jersey. The catch in this case is it's 16 unless she is in a position of authority over him. Then it's 18.

Why the hell couldn't this have happened to me? Maybe it was just that I am excessively ugly. I am tired of hearing about all these female teachers having sex with teenage guys. I stronly doubt this affects the guy emotionally, except when the woman loses interest.

The age of consent in NJ. is 16, so lawmakers have said that a 16 year old is mature enough to make the decision to have sex at that age, yet this 16 year old is too immature to know what he wants. I'm not saying the teacher isn't wrong for doing this, but you can't say a 16 year old is mature enough and then too immature when it comes to the exact same topic of discussion.
I wish they would leave the teacher alone. It worked out well for the boy, his parents shouldn't complain.

I had sex with a classmate when I was fifteen and suffered no damage.
The day after I turned eighteen a 32-year-old woman had sex with me after telling me she had been waiting two years for me to turn eighteen. To this day it is one of the best things that ever happened to me. I only wish she hadn't waited the two years because I learned more from her than I ever did in my previous three years of sexual activity. The thingss I learned from her served me well in all the relationships that followed, both sexual and otherwise. I still consider her one of the best friends I have ever had and ever will have.
