Subscribe to RSSAt least five people were gunned down Saturday in Chicago, including a 34-year-old man whose mother had already lost her three other children to shootings.
Ronnie Chambers, who was his mother Shirley's youngest child, was shot in the head while sitting in a parked car on the city's West Side. A 21-year-old man who was also in the car was wounded, police said.
Shirley Chambers, whose two other sons and daughter were shot in separate attacks more than a decade ago, was left grieving again on Saturday, WLS-TV reported.
"Right now, I'm totally lost because Ronnie was my only surviving son," Chambers said.
Shirley Chambers' first child, Carlos, was shot and killed by a high school classmate in 1995 after an argument. He was 18. Her daughter Latoya, then 15, and her other son Jerome were shot and killed within months of one another in 2000.
"What did I do wrong? I was there for them. We didn't have everything we wanted but we had what we needed," she asked Saturday.
Chambers said despite this latest tragic chapter in her life, she's not bitter or angry.
"They took my only child. I have nobody right now. That's my only baby," she said.
A few hours after Ronnie Chambers was killed, a gunman opened fire on three men near a South Side eatery, killing two of them and wounding the third, police said.
On Saturday afternoon, detectives were called to the scene of another shooting in which a man in his 30s and a teenager were shot to death. There had been no arrests.
Chicago's homicide count eclipsed 500 last year for the first time since 2008. Although grim, Chicago's homicide rate was nearly double that in the early 1990s — averaging around 900 — before violent crime began dropping in cities across America.
Last year's increase, though, stood in sharp contrast to New York City, where homicides fell 21 percent from 2011.

A gun did not kill these people and I resent the liberal press's headline. The deaths are tragic and my prayers go out to the families involved. Chicago has a STRICT policy against owning or carrying a hand gun. Works really well, doesn't it?
Outlaw Criminals, Crazy people and not the GUNS!!!!! This is a typical ghetto style murder. The guy was sitting in the car, probably in another gang banger's turf. It is plain and simple, if you do not understand the rules of the jungle you die. Just let nature take its course and the culling of the herd will take care of it self. Chicago has the toughest gun laws on the books, but as you can see the criminals can't read or understand or care about any stinking gun laws.
very sorry for all the loss of life. What drive a person to take another person life be it with a knife, crow bar that happened in our area he broke into their house because he was mad at his Girl friend so he killed the guy and almost killed her (6wk in hospital) by beating their heads in. They had no way to protect themself from him or the gun that can be used to kill or protect you from being killed. I also thought that chicago already has some of the BEST/Most gun laws that they (The politicians) say will protect their fellow people ?? SO WHAT HAPPENED, somebody didn't follow the laws already, may be the politcians can help by doing so PR work themselves by walking the streets alone and talking with the Gangs, mentally impared etc. to turn in all of their murder weapons to them then it will become safer for all. This will also work in any town,state including Washington DC, to the littlest town in the country.

If the firearm is used in the commission of a crime where anyone died... LIFE. Period. End of story. Locked up and the key is thrown away. No plea bargaining, no commuted sentence, no concurrent sentence. Do the crime, do the time. PERIOD."
Well, the problem with that is you've made the use of a gun cost the criminal more than murder; most murderers don't get life. So there is absolutely nothing for the crook to lose by killing everyone who witnessed the crime and any law enforcement officer who responds to the scene. Rob a liquor store? Shoot and kill the clerk, then. After all, robbery with a gun gets you more than murder under your plan. Think it won't happen? It already has happened. Murder rose considerably in the 80's when three-strike laws went into effect. Might just as well kill someone as rob them if it's your third strike and you're going away for life anyway. Guess that's why shortsighted morons like you don't write the laws.

I grew up in chicago in a neighborhood nicknamed Murder Town. Getting shot falls into 3 Categories 1- Your a victim of a crime 2. Your a criminal yourself 3. Innocent victim caught in a driveby. This "KID" wasnt robbed was he? He wasnt just standing about, he was an intended target. So which category do you think he falls under?

This left leaning news organization headlines this as a gun doing the deed. Chicago's strict gun laws didn't stop this from happening. It's the gang violence that causes this. Focus on clamping down on gangs and drugs to reduce these shootings.

First I highly doubt it was the guns fault, Gangbangers have been killing each other off for decades, the only reason this article was even posted is because the Media wants it that way cause they are the agitators of this country. From what I gather these 4 children weren't living a clean honest living or possibly living in a very high laden area, where guns laws don't apply. But the news media has to keep on writing stories to keep the hornets nest buzzing with anxiety, in hopes that they can destroy the rest the world as we know it. We all know the majority of the news media sleeps with the liberals we also know they won't tell the truth (like the government) because truth doesn't sell. I'm sick and tired of all this in accurate gun talk going on these days, most the people on the band wagon have never been around the shooting sports therefore know very little about it, but the other liberals are talking about so lets get on the band wagon and join the fun. And not one of the 13 people shot that day were shot with a so-called "assault weapon" or with multiple rounds from a so-called "high-capacity" magazine, just as 99.5% of the rest of the people shot in this country in any given year ever weren't either. Obama is selling out the thousands of poor inner city people of color who die every year in this country from violent crime by wasting this opportunity to actually address violence in the US, trying instead to pass laws that seek only to curtain legal ownership of the firearms used in less than 1% of gun deaths in the US, rather than laws that actually reduce violence. Attacking the concept of private gun ownership is far more important to him than saving lives of urban youth.

Chambers, a convicted felon and reputed Gangster Disciple gang member, was the fouth sibling in his family to die a violent death, according to the police. His other siblings also died from gunshot wounds, a police source said.

New York's crime has decrease not because of strict gun law, but because of hard police tactics. Stop and frisk has either caught the would be criminal or made them move on. Bloomberg has no problem with stepping all over our rights, be it the 4th amendment, 2nd amendment or the size of coke you can drink. Has it worked in New York? Maybe, I don't know stats are easily manipulated to fit the agenda. What I do know is that I'm not willing to give up my freedoms for the perception of safety.
It is a shame the woman lost here 4 children. However, a move to the suburbs and her children would all be alive. Inner Chicago is a cesspool of violence. What good did gun-control do in the ghetto? hundreds have died at the hands of criminals.
