Cops shoot dogs in front of Pennsylvania high school

A dog fight ended with a hail of bullets in a Philadelphia suburb, leaving residents shocked and looking for answers.

The incident started on Friday at around noon when a stray dog got into a pickup truck at a red light in Chester, Pa., and began fighting with another pooch, NBCPhiladelphia.com reported.

Cops were called when the dogs couldn't be separated, and when they arrived, witnesses were stunned at the reaction. One officer shot at the dogs five times with a pistol, then another fired one blast from a shotgun. Both dogs were killed.

And this all went down right in front of Chester High School.

Tehran Freeman, a dog owner himself who lives down the block from the shooting, captured the incident on video with his cell phone and was outraged at the handling of the situation.

"I don't care how bad they try to make Chester seem, this is not a war zone, you don't do things like that," he told NBCPhiladelphia.com.

"I thought them as the police should be held to a higher standard and would have some type of procedure for breaking it up than actually pulling out your pistols in front of the high school."

Freeman told NBCNews.com that the bigger, more aggressive dog seemed to be a pit bull and had a leash, but the other smaller dog didn't. It was unclear who the owners were.

He said when he saw the police the "last thing that I thought would happen" is that they would open fire with their guns.

"It wasn't secure at all, I know bullets can ricochet and anything else -- you're trying to shoot two animals in the back of a metal vehicle, that bullet can go anywhere."

Chester police told NBCPhiladelphia.com that the incident was under investigation and at the time the animal control officer in the city was unavailable.

Freeman added that some of the cops involved seemed as upset as anyone.

"One of the officers actually looked very, very shaken up about it," he said.

The cops should have stood there and done nothing until the dogs mauled the bystanders, right? It's mental how the blame always goes everywhere else but where it should-to the owners of these vicious beasts.

Vicious beasts? 30,000 people a year get murdered by other people. Who are the vicious beasts? One dog was in the truck minding his business. And where did it say a person was attacked? Read the article again moron!!

I have been bit while breaking up dog fights. I don 't think the police should risk personal injury breaking up a dog fight. I love dogs, but the cops reacted in a reasonable manner. It is sad, yes, but they had few choices.

cops were Firing directly into a school zone in session

if you think that was the only option ,when the dogs weren't attacking a person or the cops themselves.. then like the cops you are too stupid to own a gun.. if you have one.

This despicable act is, sadly, representative of the police in Eastern PA and New Jersey. Far too many of them only become police officers to satisfy an obsessive need to have authority. They are not able to earn respect as human beings; they have to have the blue uniform, the shield .... which used to go only to the people who wanted to serve their neighbors ...and, unfortunately, the guns they most certainly abuse far too often.

This event took place in a City where the police have abandoned the "hood" where children and young ones are killed in large numbers.

You see; it's a helluva lot easier to shoot up a vehicle, and 2 precious creatures, than it is to do the Job they swore an oath to accomplish. Ah well, what can you expect from a city that pays 20 Mil to a sick dude that tortured helpless dogs.

once again , this @!$%# is happening. only now it's the cops attacking instead of a criminal. if the dogs were in control, in a pickup truck, and not endangering the public PEOPLE in the area, then why would the police do what they did? as you can see, the officers have NEVER even pulled their weapons from their holsters in the past. they had no clue what to do other than shoot randomly into the vehicle. These are the people you hired to defend yourselves from criminals. Once again, you get what you pay for, and they want these idiots to defend me me in a situation, instead of myself. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cop that took Biden's advice about the shotgun being the best defense did the trick by killing both dogs with one shot. That's right...listen to the big government...they have all the answers.

Keep your dogs on a leash and remember if the dog gets out of hand he may suffer for it. Sadly the small dog had to die too, but like I said Biden said use a shotgun for defense. If you don't want your animal shot then don't call someone with a gun for help. Call the dog catcher next time or handle it yourself.

MSNBC doesn't give the whole story this time and never does. It is whatever fits their agenda. If the dog was rabid the small dog was already infected when they got there so it may have been all they had left to do.

Why do the dog shooting POLICE always finish the job and kill the dogs, often by shooting numerous times? Who gave them the right to EXECUTE our dogs?

Some of you stand up and say "NO, this is not the way it's supposed to be", others speak like "this is the way it's going to be, nothing we can do about it" and others are just plain pissed off. I'm among those whom are pissed off. Yeah!!! we need gun control, I think the cops are the ones who need to be evaluated...Guns? No!, Tazers? No! Battons? No!!! Pepper spray? Okay...maybe.

The symptoms of the problems with having guns, is not the gun...it's the trigger man (Or Woman). Mental Health, that's the problem...that and having to live with Politics in your face 24/7. And Obama Bin Biden.

Not quite correct. The dumbest, most callous creatures on the face of the earth are those humans who supported, promoted and worked for the abortion industry, where over 55.8 million future U.S. citizens were killed before birth since 1973's Roe V Wade.

Want to make a real positive contribution to humanity? Start working for the good of humanity as much as you do for the good of animals. If that is your mindset.

What does abortion have to do with this story? Good grief. Why do some people have to take EVERY story and spin it to preach their propaganda? People can have love for BOTH animals and people you know. It's not an either/or situation like you seem to think.

Thought all the dog and elk-murdering cops were in Colorado, where animals are shot on their own property. A restrained dog was murdered in her own garage, 2 others in their own yards in separate incidents. The cops lied in their reports. A neighborhood witnessed 2 cops murdering a tame elk for a trophy, then the cops lied about the animal being "injured" and needing to be euthanized. What with the killing of restrained non-threatening dogs and people, as well as tamed elk, the cops are way out of control. Thank god for witnesses and their iPhones and cameras - THEY don't lie. I no longer have any faith in cops, anywhere. They like to kill things waaaaay too much. Next victim will be somebody's kid.

Unfortunately, cops shooting dogs, even innocent dogs doing nothing wrong, is a VERY common occurrence. Many people aren't aware of this. Just do a simple Google search and you will see story after story of these types of occurrences...even family dogs in fenced back yards or inside of homes (like when police search homes because of a false burglar alarm). I started following stories like these when a man's dog, named Cisco, was gunned down for no reason on his own property. The police dash cam caught it. It was truly disturbing and happens far too often. I'm not saying all cops shoot dogs, but there are some that will even when there are other measures that could be used. It happens frequently.

Okay, now what is the NRA (nutty rifle association) going to say about this? Another excuse for arming people around schools goes down in flames.

Okay, now your just completely nuts. How does this have anything to do with having armed guards at schools to protect children? Gun control freaks will twist anything to promote their agenda. Oh Oh Oh...lets outlaw the police... they shoot dogs and people too... lets outlaw chlorine bleach and ammonia, they can be mixed together and make a gas that will kill people. Lets outlaw cake and pie they make people fat and kill them. Where does it stop?

Could have just let the dogs fight. At least one dog would have lived, maybe both and they wouldnt be putting the kids in dager at the school. And how many holes did they put in the truck? Both those cops need to be fired and charged with at least disorderly conduct.

From time to time they would get into a fight. There was not one time while they were fighting that I didn't run as fast as my little legs would carry me to fill a bucket full of water and throw on the fighting dogs. Not one single time did that bucket of water NOT stop the fight. NOT ONE SINGLE TIME. Guns, shooting, killing absolutley NO EXCUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
