Phoenix Police Department
Phoenix police were seeking Arthur Douglas Harmon, 70, in the deadly shooting at a Phoenix business comples Wednesday, Jan. 30.
A man shot three people, killing one of them, after a dispute at a Phoenix office complex Wednesday, authorities said.
Phoenix police said that the gunman fled the scene. The suspect was identified as Arthur Harmon, 70, of Phoenix. He was described as a white male, about 6 feet tall and about 220 pounds, and was considered armed and dangerous.
Steven Singer, 48, was pronounced dead at a Phoenix hospital, police said. Authorities wouldn't discuss the identities or conditions of the two other victims, a white man and a woman in her early 30s, because Harmon was still at large.
Three other people were also treated for "stress-related" conditions after the incident at a business complex near 16th Street and Glendale Avenue, authorities said.
A police SWAT unit that arrived at Harmon's home in a residential neighborhood about five miles away discovered that he wasn't there. Later Wednesday afternoon, more police swarmed outside a downtown Phoenix office tower where a vehicle may have been found that was similar to the one witnesses said the gunman drove off in. Yellow crime scene tape was put up in the tower's plaza.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the incident was believed to have begun with an altercation in the lobby of the complex that escalated into gunfire.
"The initial indications are that this was not a random act," he said.
Police said shell casings at the scene indicated that at least two weapons were used.
Prominent lawyer wounded
Mark P. Hummels, president of the Phoenix chapter of the Federal Bar Association, was among the shooting victims, his law firm said in a statement. It said Hummels was representing a client in a mediation session when he was shot.

Hummels was being treated at John C. Lincoln Hospital, the firm said, adding that it had no information on his condition.
Jim Fink, a neighbor of Harmon's for many years, told The Arizona Republic that Harmon had recently been involved in a business lawsuit and had been "confident that he was going to win this case."
"He was a great neighbor," Fink said. "Wouldn't trade him for the world."
Witnesses to the shooting said they heard nine or 10 shots. A woman who works in the building told NBC station KPNX of Phoenix that she immediately began running down the hallway.

"We didn't know where to hide, because all of our offices are all windows," she said.
The shootings occurred during a Senate hearing on gun violence where former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., made a brief statement urging new gun control measures. Giffords was critically wounded in a mass shooting in Tucson, Ariz., in 2011.
Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, broke the news of Wednesday's shooting to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, interrupting his own answer to a question from Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.
"While we were having this hearing, ... in Phoenix, Arizona, there is another what seems to be, possibly, a shooting with multiple victims," he said.

I guess no one wants to discuss the 43 gun deaths in Chicago the last 3 weeks though. I thought not.
Even before shootings became a big deal the deaths in Chicago was weekly business. Sounds cold and harsh but that is just the way it is.
This is a result of a unethical person that chooses not to conform with society. The person chose to kill, not the gun. Those ethical law abiding people that ended up as victims could have defended themselves had they been prepared to defend themselves.
Folks, if you're still looking for something to defend yourself against all these deranged DemoKKKrats with, I submit the following:
It's gonna be pretty hard to even FIND a decent AR-15 or AK-47 at this point, much less actually find a good deal.
But you can still find a 12-gauge pump, and they are an excellent tool for turning bad people into good people. If you can't find an 18" home defense gun, you can buy one of those long-barreled goose guns, and cut it down to just over 18" yourself, in a pinch- it ain't rocket surgery. It will need to have a light mounted to it, because bad people tend to prefer to do bad things under the cover of darkness, and you have a moral responsibility to identify your target before dispatching it. Feed it full-power slugs, or buckshot if you can't handle the recoil of the slugs- no smaller than #4 BUCK shot (don't confuse #4 BUCK shot for #4 BIRD shot- HUGE difference). And leave the butt stock on it- a pistol grip with no butt stock makes the weapon much slower and less accurate in actual use.

You know, it's funny. I am trained in the use of firearms and tactical deployment under stressful situations. I have proved I have the reaction speed and capability to take down someone if the need arises and yet if someone pulls a gun on me before I even know what is happening...it doesn't matter. What do all you grossly under-trained people think you are going to do against someone that is prepared to kill just because they feel like it? You move and that will be the cue to start shooting. You wait until he starts shooting and you start shooting - this is a no win. There are two ways to be a hero - Remove the threat, or remove those under threat. There is no hero when you add to the situation.

the gun that was just used to shoot these people, who was it supposed to protect? I keep hearing that most people buy guns to "protect" themselves, but all the web and tv stories I hear about gun related incidents are that they are killing/severly injuring people.

vern the sole purpose of guns is to severely injure of kill its target. the main use of autos is transportation. regaurdless, the manufacturing, operation and general safety guidelines of automobiles is regulated and studied. why are guns above regulation and access to information for study? even the freedom of speech has limits, when it comes to inciting violence and or panic, (like yelling fire in a theater) why are guns above the the implementation of regulation like the rest of our rights? no part of the proposed legislation is calling for confiscation fromlaw abiding citizens so please come up with a better hysterical statement.
The media is hyping every shooting they can possibly find to further their gun grabbing agenda. There are no more shootings this year, than last year, or any other year. Just think if the media wanted to outlaw cars, and started pointing out every single auto fatality they could find. We would think people were dropping like flies due to car crashes, and actually, about 7 times more people die every year in wrecks than die from being shot, but we don't hear anything about that. The media is the problem, not responsible gun owners.

Whatever, I never said that shootings are a good thing, just that the media has decided to join in a frenzy and report stuff that normally wouldn't really be a huge news story. It's bad for someone if they get shot, but believe it or not, the chances of being shot are not very high.

The reason you don't hear as much about shootings in other countries is that in most of them they don not have the right to own a gun. Their government has taken that away so that when it happens our ultra liberal left wing looney tune press refuses to cover the story. Just like today in those one sided hearings on gun violence. You will be subjected to a litany of teary eyed sob stories but you will not be allowed to hear even one story of how a life was saved because someone was armed and stopped a bad guy. It happens all the time but it is never in the lame stream media. Obama wants Fox News shut down because they tell the truth and also give both sides of every story. One of these days the liberals will finally accomplish their aim of completely destroying this country and then they will say,"what happened to all of our rights?" The gun deaths in the UK are 0.5 per 100,000 population compared with 10.00 here in the States. That's a factor of 20 times. Fox is acknowledged internationally as the laughing stock of news reporting - in effect is the propaganda arm of the RNC. I suggest you get some international news to absorb - Canadian or Australian to get a better perspective on the truth. I won't hold my breath though.

I cannot credot your numbers but will agree that the gun death numbersrates in the US are higher.
Now, let's compare the violent crime rates: Violent crime (murder, assault, robbery, rape) is 5-6 times higher in the UK. The UK has the most vilent crimes in the EU (maybe second once the 2012 data are in).
The UK is considering a ban on kitchen knives!

I give up on gun control - the NRA has induced so much paranoia in this country that without reasonable efforts to make sure guns are only in the hands of legitimate (sane and trained) people that the place is flooded with them. But there could be some limits placed on ammunition - it may take time but if ammo was only available to legitimate (sane and trained) gun owners the criminals would finally run out.
Interestingly, not only is the rate of gun deaths in the States is 20 times what it is in Britain but deaths from car accidents is also 5 times higher. From experience, getting a driving license here is a piece of cake compared to the UK. SO cars don't kill, guns don't kill - but something in the water here produces more people bent on killing themselves or one another than anywhere else in the civilized world.

Chicago has adopted tough gun laws but a lot of the suburbs are selling the guns that are brought into Chicago. I just watched a video of a hearing in Illinois and Sen. Dick Durbin mentioned that of the guns used in crimes in Chicago that were confiscated, 20% had come from a gun shop in the suburb of Riverdale.
