Cops: Father smoked crack as 2-year-old twins sat in back seat

Torrington Police

Dennis Robinson, 28, is accused of smoking crack cocaine inside his SUV with his 2-year-old twins in the back seat.

Police arrested a father Tuesday night after officers said he smoked crack in a car with his 2-year-old twins sitting in the back seat.

According to authorities, Dennis Robinson's wife called police after he failed to pick her up from work in Plainville, Conn. She called Robinson, 28, several times but he continued to give her excuses for not showing up, police said. Four hours later, Robinson's wife finally got a ride home and called police to report her husband and her two children missing.

Officers spotted Robinson's 2002 Dodge Durango and tried to stop him. According to police he briefly tried to flee, but officers stopped him on Harwinton Road.

More news from NBCConnecticut.com

Another man in the car told police the two drove to Waterbury, Conn., and bought crack cocaine with the kids in the back seat. The pair smoked the crack in the car, according to police.

Robinson, 28, of Torrington, Conn., is charged with risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $20,000 bond. The other man was not charged.

You better hope that any idiot can always have a kid. The last thing you want is a relatively small group of people making decisions about who can have children and who can not. That leads to Eugenics and Eugenics leads to nothing good as proven by history.

Maybe there should be monitory classes or parental fitness training, but the minute you start a license system for procreation, it will become a disaster.

Sorry Brain, I'm a pretty die hard liberal and I agree with Janine, at least in principle. I don't think we could undergo any sort of restrictions without absolute protections in the constitution, and significant research into proper implementation.

However, I don't see why we couldn't require drug testing for the more addictive varieties prior to having kids, and maybe a marginal bond (say $2k). This bond could be used to cover child safety nets (like insurance and food) to ensure if the parent fall on hard financial times the kids are protected. After all, if you can't put up $2k then you definitely can't afford to have kids. You could also not let people with history of domestic abuse, and convicted sexual predators from having kids.

China's one child rule is ridiculed by you people, yet you want to put a price tag on just gaining the right to even conceive a child.

I consider a lot of comments on here to be just plain stupid, but yours is frightening. I hate to imagine the society that would be produced under such regulation. Population control and engineering of our future working class. I'll have to quote Romney on that idea.

“I think it'd be marvelous"

Not.

Do you think anyone besides those below a certain income level would be subjected to your drug screenings? Do you think a Lindsay Lohan would be required to undergo all of the same qualifications as those further down the income scale? Hey! Instead of wages, why don't we allow employers to just compensate their workers with their left over food scraps and someplace dry to sleep.

Lets throw everyone in prison who does anything wrong. Who is going to pay for this? Lets think about this. What is the problem with this guy? He likes to take banned substances. why? who knows maybe pain? Perhaps we should rehabilitate him so he can be a father to his children rather than having two new rejects grow up in the world without a father.

Prison should be reserved for the violent of offenders. Rehabilitation and behavioural adjustments would benefit him, his children and society and be least expensive.

This story is repulsive. The jerk should have at least let the kids out of the vehicle, and drove around the block to smoke his crack. Somewhere safe of course; like in front of an ice cream shop or something. Maybe hang a sign on them or something......"Be right back, smoking some rock"

If we could find some sort of reversible birth control (for males and females), give it to all kids before puberty, to be kept in until at least 18 or 21 or whatever. Once they decide they want kids, they can go to the doctor to get it reversed. If they need government aid, they can get it again, and get it reversed once they're supporting themselves again. Then we could at least weed out the idiots that have kids just because they don't really pay attention to preventing them.

He is a father until he rights are removed by a court. A sperm donor is an unknown male who donate sperm. You are free to disagree, but you would be incorrect.

How about we get through the trial first? Should he be convicted, then send him to family court and have them decide if he should lose his rights. I am not talking about simple loss of custody, I am talking about the loss of his rights. Anyone proven to be that kind of danger to their children is better off totally separated from them with no chance to possibly do this again.

Again, he needs a trial for the doing drugs and he needs to be convicted before we go around saying he is a simple sperm donor ( if we say it at all ).

Problem is that a person's physiological state can change over time. They can be fine when they take the test but gradually become not so fine later.

No, because the father was responsible for the situation. It is also likely that the police felt that they did not have enough evidence that the other guy was actually smoking in the car.

What ever the case might be, the right guy got taken into custody. A parent should never put their kids in that position and when they do, they are the ones who need to be punished ( after trail ) for the wrong doing.

Hopefully Child Protective Services will become involved. The man should be restricted from being alone with the children and he should not be allowed to live in their home. If his wife will not toss his dumb arse out, then the children should be placed elsewhere until she does.

What the hell is wrong with people? Does he not understand (or care) that those children were inhaling this as well? This man needs massive help. I hope the girl has enough since to run him off and never look back. Those children need to be in a stable home with their mother. Why was she at work and not him? Another low life living off of a woman I guess. Such a shame. I just hope that was the ONLY time he done this BUT I doubt it. Bless their hearts. Kick him to the curb woman... don't even START to look back. He is a Scum Bag!!!

Why should a woman live off a man? Woman are equal partners in a relationship and in this day and age they are expected to work as well. No gender excuses, the economy and reality of family life today dictates that it takes both parents to have income and be working as equals.

Since it was not explained, you have no idea if the guy had a job and was simply off work or it was not yet his time to go to work for that day.

I should also point out that the kids need a stable home with BOTH parents. That need dose not change when one of them fails to be the parent they should be.

      #10.1 - Thu Jan 31, 2013 7:00 AM EST

you are correct... it is better for both parents to be involved... but NOT if one is a crackhead!!! ALSO- no, I don't know if he was working or not- just assumed that -since he seemed like a low life POS smoking crack with 2 yr olds in the car. My mother stayed with my biological father "for the childrens sake" but should had left him long before she did. I told her that I love her with all my heart but staying with him was harder on all of us children than it was when she left him. The abuse was unreal- nothing a child needed to see but he didn't care- he cared more about drinking with his friends than working and taking care of his children. I have been there- WOULD NOT want that for ANY child. SO, with that being said- sometimes it is better to have ONE parent!

This waste of skin should be banned from any further contact with his kids.

        Reply#11 - Thu Jan 31, 2013 7:10 AM EST

He should only be banned from contact if there is a trail to take his rights away, not a simple loss of custody. OFC they wont take his rights, they would want to extract child support and people who actually lose their parental rights no longer have that obligation.

As long as he has any rights at all, he has the right to come back to his children's lives, he can not legally be kept away permanently by ANYONE unless it is for the duration of a treatment program. If he maintains his rights he will always have the chance to be back in his children's lives.

          #11.1 - Thu Jan 31, 2013 7:19 AM EST

Maybe so QE17 - but the wife needs to bundle up them kids and get as far away from him as they can get. Cut contact until he cleans up his act. And while he is locked up is a real good time to go.

By the time the bleeding heart judicial system works its snail-pace, the kid could be dead or otherwise abused. The safety of the child is paramount. He should be allowed no contact until such time as the case is adjudicated and CPS has determined it to be safe.

My youngest brother used to pull this crap on his wife and kids. If he went out to buy a bag, he'd take one of his kids so he could hide it in their diaper. Then, sometimes, he would be gone for days - nobody knowing where he went.

The kids grew up and moved away. The wife left, too.

He's dead now. Murdered by two crack whores while he slept.

All sounds cold and callous...but the truth is never wrong.
