Woman in Brooklyn ER molested by another patient, authorities say

A 27-year-old woman at a Brooklyn hospital was molested by a fellow patient previously convicted of sex abuse, authorities said.

The woman was in a semi-private section of the emergency room at Kings County Hospital when she woke up to find the man molesting her, investigators said.

Gregory Campfield, 52, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor charge of forcible touching. It's not clear if he had an attorney.

A spokesman for Kings County Hospital said in a statement, "Security was immediately alerted, and the male patient was turned over to the NYPD. We are ensuring the patient is receiving all the care and support she and her family need."

My little sister died in that hospital back in 1976, my mother and father pent days in that hospital when i was younger,mi even spent a nite in the emergency room there, and know how the rooms are filled with several patients in one room, back then patiently were only separated by curtains. And i was a little kid,i found it strange men and women in same ward, when we cant even use dame bath rooms. So i can see how this happen, and cant see how it has never happen before? Then again upon investigating it further, maybe it has happened and the hospital covered it up somehow who knows. But i have a distrust anyway of the hospital, because of my little sister dying unexpectedly in the hospital all alone at very young age. When i was just playing with her in her room the day before, and i gave her my 5 dollar allowance money i saved up so she feel better about being left alone at hospital. she died on a tuesday mysteriously. She was expected to go home and all of sudden she died the same time while my mother had just got out the hospital from having a baby, my little brother she named and never got to see him and they were in the same hospital at same time in the same building. My parents never investigated her death because we were so poor, my father just no long before got out of kings county hospital due to heart problems, and me being a kid then wondering, why she died she seem alright playing with me in her room the day before??? she didnt even look like she was even sick or close to death, so all these years it has been bothering me deeply inside. Thats why i made sure my three kids where not born there and made sure of it..i would drove all the way downtown to brooklyn to the hospital there, because i didnt feel right about my family being there.

Yall are way too nice. The best way to deter this type of action in the future is execution.I cant ever figure out how feeding someone and taking care of em for the rest of thier lives can be a deterent.truthfully, how can you stop this stuff by rewarding people for it?

Do they mean - "if he had an attorney before he did it?" Or do they mean they don't know if our wonderful judicial system has appointed him one yet to ensure he isn't violated in any way after he did it? A couple of real jokes - Attorneys and our judicial system.

Come on now don't everyone get their panties in a knot over this.

No we don't need to station Armed guards in hospitals !!!!

Warren: When was the last time you were in an ER, not to mention the fact that I and I am sure most posters think your first line in your comment is incredibly immature.

At any time, hospitals can have gangs, drug addicts, etc besides distraught family members of the above.

Thanks Warren. The answer? I wish I had one. Like most people, I am just your average worker, living honestly and raised two great kids, but now I fear for their kids. Everyone seems to be out for self, rather it be pleasure, money, etc. I do wish there was less attention to solving the world's problems and more attention spent in this country. You ask a good question that I wish there were an answer.

'security was alerted'. I live in an average sized town and we have security present and walking the halls of the emergency room at all times. Ridiculous that this happened.

Time for Gregory to have a serious accident. Sounds like he has caused the taxpayers enough.

People, Please. There is a difference between the moral outrage and emotion one attaches to a sexual violation ,such as this , and the laws that associated with them. Why do you think when you read a news article the person has different designations for the type of sexual predator they are? And you might be surprised to see what can get people a Level One designation. In certain cases, running in the nude, having sex in a public place (think the lover"s lane idea) with your married spouse, and other situations like this are lumped together with a pedophile. I think the designations for the law should be re defined and just target rapists and sex with minors period, but, such is the state of the law in own country as a whole.

I've always thought that the sex offenders' list encompasses too broad of a spectrum of offenses, too.

But, considering that this guy was doing something sexually inappropriate with a sleeping patient, odds are his previous offense wasn't peeing in the bushes or taking a stroll down lovers' lane.

Time to get serious with our laws. One strike and you're out. This guy has damaged at least two lives. He should not have gotten that second chance.

And if that hospital is like Springfield Oregon Hospitals, she probably was never given a call light and had to yell for help.
