An aerial view of the scene in Chicago where a woman driving a van was shot dead.
A Chicago woman was shot and killed Friday morning while driving her van on the ramp from Lake Shore Drive to Interstate 55.
Illinois State Police said a 32-year-old woman and a 37-year-old female passenger were driving a white Dodge van south on Lake Shore Drive around 4:20 a.m. when the shooting occurred.
A brown, full-size van pulled alongside them as they entered the ramp to I-55 and someone opened fire with 10 to 14 rounds, shooting the driver, police said. The woman's van then crashed into the median. She was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The other woman was not injured and was taken into police custody for questioning. She is not considered a suspect.
Police said the shooting was related to gang and drug activity and was not random.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Police are still looking for the shooter, and the shooting remains under investigation.

Anybody read the story about the elderly gentleman who fired a round off to scare a man with a knife chasing a woman in Seattle? Yep, he held him at gunpoint til the cops arrived. They haven't decided yet whether they're going to cite him for discharging his weapon!

Legalize ALL illegal drugs today and half the killings in Chicago and other large cities drop overnight. Marijuana is no more dangerous than a shot of Tequila or Rum and yet it is illegal and thus profits and violence come into play, Cocaine and Heroin? Tough call but hey, people are using these drugs anyway so we might as well let the pharmaceutical companies take over, pay taxes, distribute a certain amount of profits to drug rehab, etc, plus you know you are getting a quality and safe(?) product.
I know I will be crucified by saying all this but remember, at one time ALL of these drugs and more were legal and sold in drug stores. If you really want to know what the biggest killer of all...it's ALCOHOL, alcohol kills and damages more people every year than ALL DRUGS COMBINED...and yes, it's all legal.
Actually harleman most people would agree with you, the war on drugs has done nothing but cause an actual war on our streets, that is the cause of probably more than half of all of the gun related deaths, if congress, the senate and obama actually wanted to do something to curb the gang violence and gun related deaths that would be a good way to do it.
I know the drug deaths will go up for a little while but heck those people were going to go either way and they chose to do it!!! The money that could be saved off the budget would be billions, and they could add a tax to pay for drug rehabs so those who use the drugs are the ones paying for the rehabs, the prison population would go down so real criminals could be kept in prison!!!!! The gun violence would go down since the gangs would no longer be controlling the drugs and the tax revenue would go up...
Sounds like a win win situation, and that is why the government will not do it.... It would take a lot of their power and control of the people away!!!!!! The drug laws allow them to take rights away from the people and put them in prison and they make billions off of the laws so they will never get rid of it.
It is like with cigarettes, they do not want to get rid of those because they make hundreds of billions of dollars off of cigarettes and that is all that matters to politicians! even though they cause thousands of deaths every year!
Good point garrie, especially about the part of war on the streets and filling up prisons with drug addicts and recreational drug users, every once in awhile a big whoop de do is made about a drug kingpin being arrested. They never tell you that he has already been replaced by another and another and another, it is too much money involved and too tempting to the right criminal regardless of the penalties involved.
The government won't do it because they want more police on the street. I think it's time to disband the Department of Homeland Security. Who can arrest you? Local Police or Sheriff, State Police or Patrol, FBI, Park Rangers, ATF, Federal Marshals, US Customs and Border Patrol, Homeland Security AND as of last year Obama signed a bill that allows soldiers to arrest and detain you indefinitely.
Harleman - I beg to differ with you. In January 2006, a driver using drugs side-swiped my truck nearly head-on while using drugs. Had I not see him cross over the yellow line and the last second and swerved, it would have been a head-on collision. Four weeks later, while out on bond, he killed a man and brain damaged another in a head-on collision when he veered over the yellow line while using drugs. He had two prior felony convictions for drugs and a rap sheet going back 20 years. He's now sitting prison with a life+60 year sentence. May he rot there.

I agree with you 100%, Drug arrests account for a large majority of prisoners in the US costing BILLIONS of dollars, the war on Drugs is a joke and what has been achieved? Nothing except bigger law enforcement costs, dangerous street gangs terrorizing and demoralizing neighborhoods, senseless murders and more. Legalize the stuff already.

First let me say I'm a legal gun owner. I plan on buying more, soon. I've read some of the feedback people have posted. I grew up in Joliet, Il, so I know how bad it can get. The point most people are missing is President Obama and the NRA are all for the American citizen to possess a legally owned firearm; however; the criminals don't care about registering/possessing legal firearms. The biggest issues that tie the hands of President Obama are the 2nd Amendment and the sky rocketing gun violence in the U.S. Making gun laws stiffer doesn't hurt the criminal just the average American citizen from defending him/herself.

Just another of the many gun violence deaths in the US each day. And these are criminal gang members... so any gun laws wouldn't have helped for them. So we shouldn't pass any gun laws because they wouldn't work in this one instance, and so many others with criminals. And the other 79 people who weren't criminals would just suffer. Oh, wait, they're dead too. Because stronger gun laws would not have worked in this one case, we should not have stronger gun laws at all. Besides, if these criminal women had had some guns, and shot back, maybe there would be even less criminals. So more guns would equal less criminals. Because guns don't kill criminals, criminals with guns kill criminals. Can I join the NRA now?

No big deal. Someone simply chose to exercise his/her second amendment rights. The shooter must have had to stand his/her ground for a good reason. It's not for us to question that reason. If a few people have to die so we can be free, so be it. Nobody ever said that liberty was easy.

NBC is going to have to start a new branch agency if they are going to keep reporting all the gang violence in Chicago to promote their socialist anti gun agenda.
