Funeral arrangements were announced Friday for the 15-year-old girl whose shooting death on Chicago's south side this week captured national attention.
Meanwhile, officials announced the pool of reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Hadiya Pendleton's killer had increased to $40,000.
Pendleton, a student at King College Prep High, was shot Tuesday afternoon as she and a group of other teens sought cover from a rain storm in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park, on the 4500 block of South Oakenwald Avenue.
A visitation for the teen will be held Friday, Feb. 8 at Calahan Funeral Home, at 7030 S. Halsted St., from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. A wake and funeral will beheld the following day beginning at 9 a.m. at the Greater Harvest Baptist Church, at 5141 S. State St.
It was unclear late Friday if President Barack Obama would heed a request to attend the funeral, but a pastor confirmed the president did speak with the girl's parents.
"We thank him for that, and if he does come, that's fine. If he doesn't, we know he sends his love," said Pastor Courtney Maxwell.
Cops: Tips on Hadiya Pendleton's killer pour in
Earlier in the day, dozens marched from the girl's school to where she was gunned down, passing out leaflets along the way and pleading for the shooter to come forward.
Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said his officers were chasing a "ton of tips" from the community and felt confident that "something's going to pan out."
"If we get this guy into custody, we may save somebody else from going through what this family is going through right now, because that's a stone-cold killer," McCarthy said with Pendleton's heartbroken family and religious leaders at his side.
Online, moving tributes to Pendleton were being posted and shared so that no one forgets what's been lost while authorities search for a killer.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rainbow PUSH Coalition planned to hold a Saturday rally in honor of Pendleton. Organizers planned to begin the event at 10 a.m. at the group's headquarters, at 930 E. 50th St.. Ministers, legislators, school officials, parents and other supporters then planned to march toward Vivian Gordon Harsh Park.

Hello folks, while we send our condolences to Hadiya's family and loved ones let's also do the same for the children of the Nasser and Louqye family.
Four sisters of the Ali Mohammed Nasser family in Yemen were killed. Afrah was 9 years old when she and her three younger sisters Zayda (7 years old) , Hoda (5 years old) and Sheika (4 years old) were struck by an American drone.
Ibrahim, a 13 year old boy of the Abdullah Mokbel Salem Louqye family in Yemen was struck by a US drone, together with his younger brother Asmaa (9 years old) and two younger sisters, Salma (4 years old) and Fatima (3 years old)
These children are innocent. They are not different from our own children.
Their lives were taken away at a very young age as part of a military agenda, which claims to be combating "international terrorism
A family home is referred to as a "structure" or a "building" rather than a house. When they target a home with family members, they kill children. And they know that in advance of the drone strike:
"Bryant saw a flash on the screen: the explosion. Parts of the building collapsed. The child had disappeared. Bryant had a sick feeling in his stomach.
"Did we just kill a kid?" he asked the man sitting next to him.
"Yeah, I guess that was a kid," the pilot replied.

These children were killed on the orders of the US President and Commander in Chief Barack H. Obama.
The commander in chief sets the military agenda and authorizes these killings to proceed.
The killings were quite deliberate. They are categorized as "crimes against humanity" under international law.
Those who ordered these drone killings, including the president of the United States, are war criminals under international law and must be indicted and prosecuted
It should be noted that the drone attacks on civilians have increased dramatically during the Obama presidency (see below).

While we bemoan the deaths of innocent children in the Unites States, let's not forget those that are killed in our name in other countries.
And that comment is the only reason NBC is running this story while previously ignoring all the other teenagers killed in Chicago in the past year.

With that said I wish to convey my condolences to the Pendleton family for the lost of their beautiful child. It was a senseless killing of a young child that only add fuel to the growing rage against needless gun violence in this country. A shame because 99% of those that own guns legally are honest law abiding citizens.

A life cut way to short. My deepest sympathy for the family and friends during this most tragic of times.
It's tragic this child died. But her death is no more tragic than the death of the children who have died on the steps of their homes, or at the neighborhood ball games.
This one is from a middle class family, attended the president's inauguration, and that made her more special than the children from the poverty areas who were collateral damage of the gang wars.
If the people had stepped up when those other babies had been shot, this child would not be dead today.

The police are failing so bad mainly because prior to the death of this child, no one in the community stepped up to give them information that would lead them to the shooters. It was a case of, "I know nothing, I saw nothing, I heard nothing."
This girl was considered important enough because not only was she the right color, she was middle class, she had never been in trouble, and she performed for the president's inauguration.
That made her one of the black community's "own" in a way no other black child could ever be. Her death could very well be the single most important thing to happen that could effect a change to rout the gangs from their entrenchment in the culture of the neighborhoods.
We can only pray that it is so.
Since President Obama is from Chicago, and this young lady was just in Washington, I hope he decides to attend the funeral. Something needs to be drastically done to get attention in Chicago so that the killings slow down and God forbid, even stop. The numbers of over 40 in just one month that were killed are staggering. Another story that broke today was the missing New York mother that had been found dead in Turkey while traveling by herself. I don't know how many posts I have read that wondered why she was there by herself and her safety. My issue is that Chicago is much worse than any country to travel in throughout Europe, even by yourself for violence and the number of killings. This country is going down hill very fast for people feeling safe to step out of their own homes. When I had a close relative go to Europe for a year of study abroad in college, I was worried in the back of my mind. But during the time they were there, they traveled to many countries by rail and bus. Turkey was one of those countries along with Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, and many Western European countries too. Never once were they met with gun violence or felt their safety was at risk or worse. Now I find myself wishing almost on a daily basis that this relative would go back to Europe and stay permanently to meet their spouse and have children there too. Something is very wrong when other countries start to feel more like a home than just a vacation. As a person approaching retirement in the next 15-20 years, I even find myself wondering what another country would be like for retirement. Our values and respecting other life in this country has got to be at a bottom right around here, because as a society, we are truly becoming a third world country right before our very eyes. The killing of children in this country on a daily basis is truly horrific and none of us should be proud to call ourselves Americans when this is happening. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves knowing that children are victims of innocent gun violence that has nothing to do with protecting their own life or their property. Our news media reports beheadings and mass graves sometimes found in Mexico presumably related to the drug trade. Guess what we are no better than they are for killings. We are a disgrace to the world too for all of the senseless gun violence that creates injuries and killings on a daily basis throughout our country. As I type this, I really have to wonder why I would want a grandchild or great grandchild to be born in this country anymore. Gun violence is out of control and getting worse everyday and no one wants to really admit how bad it has really become. People throughout the country are in total denial. With that said, I hope Obama does attend the funeral and make a statement to the entire country that these kinds of deaths are preventable but yet adults that hold the power to change the future would rather turn their backs than to speak out. The NRA is right about guns do not kill. However, they are wrong about and in total denial themselves about keeping guns out of the wrong hands. Background check should be mandatory or seller does automatic 10 year minimum jail time. Also psychological evaluations should be done, if you cannot pass, then no gun for you. Any type of conviction rather it a misdomeanor, felon, past mental health problems, learning deficits etc, should not be given a right to own a gun. Sorry if I offend anyone, but getting a driver's license is not a right either in this country. A driver's license is a privilege and so should owning a gun. I mean the right to bear arms, means I can go get a tank too right? It is probably for sale somewhere out there in cyberspace. Why not, why can't I own a tank as my firearm? Could this have been a carried out hit to control guns? Gangs hold on to certain areas. It is not that hard to isolate and figure out who controls that area. Or who they are at war with. The big reward would have been gobbled up by now. All the cameras at traffic lights and subways. Cameras at stores and people have private cams. They just do not disappear. Compared to the Chicago black gangsters killing 10 people a week and the economy very slowly going down the tubes, giving homosexuals a shot at a lot of young boys is at the top of America's concern list.
This young girl. and 17 others. died while their hero worries about promoting homosexuals in our society.
