Subscribe to RSSA 17-year-old boy has been arrested after police say he admitted to throwing a 9-year-old boy off the roof of a Bronx apartment building Friday night, critically injuring him.
The 9-year-old boy was found on the pavement unconscious with severe body trauma in front of the five-story building on Nelson Avenue in Morris Heights at around 8:30 p.m., authorities said. He was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

On Saturday, police charged 17-year-old Casmine Aska with attempted murder.
According to a police source, Aska told investigators that he threw the 9-year-old boy off the roof after they got into a fight. The boys are not related, but live in same the building.
It was unclear what started the fight or how the two ended up on the roof.
Aska's family did not respond when a reporter knocked on the door to their apartment.

17 vs 9 year old is not a fight. It's abuse. The 17 yo either wanted to kill someone that day or didn't have the mental capability to understand he would be the 'winner' by walking away from an arguement. I hope the 9 y.o recovers completely. I hope the 17 yo never gets out of prison.

I hope the 9 year old recovers and the filthy little beast that tossed him off the roof is sent to prison and housed with a very degenerated bunk/cell mate. What sort of disgusting garbage does that to a small child?? Maybe it has something to do with playing video games with all their inherrent violence. Maybe it has to do with their races?? Maybe drugs?? Single parent?? Lets get all the information on this one before passing judgement. They ought to put this offender in a special cell, one with a 2' wide ledge going around the cell and a 100' drop to the center. It's never the fault of the indivual but guns, knives and now apartment buildings. Quess obama will now pass a law to limit the number of stories in these buildings.
Punishment needs to fit the crime...throw Mr. Aska off a roof!!!

Although I have not seen the other reports of this myself, another poster mentioned that this seventeen-year-old already had a rap sheet for serious crimes before this event. I have two kids of my own, so don't give me the line of "My Johnny would never do such a thing." If you spend any time with your kids, you know who they are and what they are (and are not) capable of. The parents of this kid already knew he had problems, as evidenced by the past crimes he committed. What to do with kids like this who have already committed multiple offenses? Ideally, they should be placed into boarding schools with strict administrators who reward bad behavior with harsh punishment. Remove the violent video games and the detached parents from the picture, place these kids in an environment where they must learn a trade, succeed in their education, not run amok in the streets, and they just may have a better chance of becoming more productive members of society, rather than a menacing nuisance for everyone else.
Can anyone tell me my these high capacity, multi- floor buildings are needed? All we are doing is putting money into the pockets of the multi-national corporate stair manufacturers. This must be stopped before one more child is harmed.
All of these fake christians with their tall buildings trying to get closer to their God. It is sickening.
We need to have everyone that owns a building more then 10 feet high put a fence around the top to keep this from happening. We could just make roof top free zones. That would probably help.

Think it through before you disagree. Liberalism isn't a political party, it's a social philosophy and everyone from the Aurora Theater shooter, all the way down to the Sandy Hook psycho fit the bill to the letter.
Perhaps, in the future, when there's a story on here involving someone who kills the innocent for no apparent reason, you should just keep your mouth shut as not to draw any more negative attention to yourself. I'm just making a recommendation.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the sporting goods store to buy ANOTHER gun to add to the collection of items in my home that I own legally and use responsibly and safely :)

Many of you point fingers at this, others at that, and many of you, sadly, make jokes and use this instance to simply make non-related comments for your own agenda.
Yes, the 17 year old, deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law for such a horrific violent crime.
But since the WHY is something that always seems to allude us, let's leave that for the investigators to determine.
Let's address the HOW:.
A 9 year old is in an apartment with his grandmother, who is baby sitting him.
Another resident, a 17 year old, is with the 9 year old in that apt.
They argue over a video game.
The grandmother says she was not in the room when all this broke out, so can't really say much here.
The 17 year old drags the 9 year old out of the apt with the 9 year old kicking and screaming.
The 17 year old drags the 9 year old down the hall to the stairs, still kicking and screaming.
They 17 year old drags the 9 year old up 3 flights of stairs (from 3rd floor to roof = 3), still kicking and screaming.
The 17 year old drags the 9 year old across the roof to the ledge, still kicking and screaming.
The 17 year old throws the 9 year old off the roof, still kicking and screaming.
NOW. Tell me how it is that this happened? Tell me how, when residents have already spoken out how they "heard the screaming", how they "saw the boy being dragged", at a time when most residents would be home and for the amount of time it would take for this whole scenario of dragging from the apt to the roofs ledge... AND.. no report anywhere of the 17 year old having ANY weapons.... Please someone tell me how this happened?
Tell me how ADULTS can turn a deaf ear, turn a blind eye and not do one DAMN thing to help this 9 year old boy. Tell me how not a single ADULT never once even thought to step up and just say something...anything... like HEY, STOP DRAGGING HIM LIKE THAT... after all, they all knew both the 17 and the 9 year old. Particularly when the 17 year old began dragging the 9 year old UP THE STAIRS. Even if they want to hide behind their excuse they thought they were playing, WHO HERE THINKS BEING DRAGGED UP OR DOWN STAIRS IS FUN?
Violence is our country will always happen, but there are times like this that could have been, should have been prevented. And the only reason it was not prevented is because we have become such a cowardice nation. We want to yell we need more guns, we need less guns, we need more parenting, we need more mental checks... we need, we need, we need.
Well you know what? All that little boy needed was for one grown up ADULT to STEP UP and BE AN ADULT. Just one adult was all. But no, each and every one of the adults in that building that could have stepped up, did not. They simply cowered down and turned their blind eyes and their deaf ears.
It's time for Adults to stop acting line children. It's time for Adults to stop "acting like adults" and start BEING ADULT.
How sad, we are becoming a nation of cowards.

Here's how. Long ago any adult would have stopped this in it's tracks. Our society has become so screwed up that any adult trying to stop it would have been accused of assaulting that poor 17 year old child! If not arrested, at least sued by his mother on behalf of her poor mistreated child. You don't believe that, just look around you. Treyvon Martin was (and still is in some circles) referred to as a child. No matter your opinion on that issue, he was as large and strong as many grown men. That hardly is a child. This 17 year old is also not a child, until you physically try to stop him, then of course he's a defenseless child! You say tell him to stop. I say his answer will be "f*ck you!" now what?
And that is my point... you are AFRAID. And I don't think most are afraid of having a law suite filed against us either. That's just an excuse. And you evidently believe Treyvon Martin was the guilty one, at least it's easy to perceive by your statement... but this isn't about Treyvon.
So based on what you posted, you are afraid, you will remain afraid and will do nothing to assist, no matter what. Hope you don't feel that way when it's your own child and discover someone could have helped yours but didn't out of fear, for whatever reason.
Again, a nation of cowards is what we are becoming... so cowardly we won't even try to save the life of a 9 year old.
Geanie: I agree with Old Dog. If I pulled my gun on this thuglet and shot him while he was dragging the kid up the stairs, I'd be the one in trouble. Jesse and Sharpton would be calling for a lynching. Afraid, of course we're afraid. You never know if they're armed, just like Zimmerman thought the Tryvon guy might be. So if I step in I either get seriously hurt, killed, or jailed.
Never fear he will be released soon, commit another violent crime, be sent back to jail, and still be able to vote the democrat ticket and eligible for welfare. Ain't America a great country?
